The Spyglass Inn

Called in for lunch yesterday, amazing food crab salad lovely, huge portions. Excellent service and food arrived quick and freshly prepared. Cannot fault it, will definitely be going again this week. Excellent choices of food and beer. Staff extremely friendly and helpful even though they were busy they had time for you which is very rare these days.

Busy restaurant in a lovely seaside location. My table sat overlooking the sea. I had a refreshing apple cider to drink and the tuna steak with garlic butter to eat, which was delicious! The coleslaw was also tasty and crunchy.

Came here for dinner and it did not disappoint. Great selection on the menu, something for everyone. Friendly staff, quick service. It was busy when we were there and we literally had our food in around 20 minutes. Lots of freshly caught seafood options on the menu, calamari was lovely. Can't comment on rooms as didn't stay in the hotel section.

Amazing sea views! Food was excellent, fresh, well cooked and good portion size too! The service was great so friendly we loved it so much so, on our recent holiday we went twice!

Really nice pub and staff. Great choice of beer and loads on the menu. We had jacket potato with coronation chicken, ploughmans and a bowl of cheesy chips. Generous portion size and the food being served on other tables looked impressive. Sat out on the veranda overlooking the sea.

The Spyglass Inn is unique.. It is totally amazing, it like all pubs should be.. Great location, overlooking the English Channel and amazing staff. We were late arriving, and only had 10 minutes to get our food order in.. But the meals arrived within 10 minutes, piping hot and MASSIVE!! Total value for money. There is a huge selection, including good options for vegetarians. Highly recommended.. Will be visiting again this week, at least for a pint or two

Rambling old pub with huge outside seating area. Called in for early evening meal. One of the specials was a Madras. Don't be fooled, this is no ordinary pub madras, it has fire. A good selection of real and craft ales, I recommend the White Squirrel, a dark bitter with a good nutty flavour.

Good pub food, seafood sourced locally. Overlooking the beach. Live music on the odd night. Plenty of beers to choose from. Ate there 3 occasions as quality and portions sizes is very good.

Visiting the Spyglass Inn on a quiet Monday night in September I was able to appreciate its brilliant nautical-themed interior that somehow manages to be not entirely kitsch. They don't have the greatest range of ales and wines are inelegantly served in glasses where the 175/250 ml mark is right up by the rim, but it's all pretty decent and we stayed on two extra rounds to enjoy the live music which astonishingly showed up even on an off-season weekday. If you are there in the day/good weather there is a very substantial outdoor area with great sea views. I did not try the food and based on other reviews I would suggest you avoid it if you want anything more than very standard pub grub - there is a fancy restaurant right across the road and renowned fish and chips at the other end of the seafront, plus lots of other options.

A themed pub with a difference. Everywhere you look there are nautical artifacts to peruse, an eclectic collection of items purchased over decades like an overgrown hobby. The beer is lovely but they also sell hot drinks. On a warm day theres lots of outdoor seating but quite simply the best thing about the Spyglass is its views in stormy weather. Ringside seats to the best mother nature has to offer from the enclosed porch which gives you a fabulous and uninterupted view of the ocean. The chips are great and the portions huge. If its cold wet and blustery then the Spyglass is the place to warm your cockles.

The food is very popular especially at weekends. I've not tried it myself but the pub is in a perfect location with outside sea views right next to the beach. It's a great stop off on the island's Costal Path.

Very busy. Great for lambretta spotting. Queue for food was 20 minutes. Menu and food decidedly average. I assume the reputation for this place is more based in its location than it's food.

Some of the most vile food I have ever eaten. Or not eaten, in this case. The breaded scampi was an unidentifiable foamy mass inside breading. The onion rings contained no onion rings, it was just batter with a few hard to find onion flakes (probably from dried onion bits). I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Great location at the end of the esplanade. Lovely views. Always busy particularly on sunny days. Goodish pub grub but not inexpensive. Decor has a strong maritime theme.

This is a busy and popular pub at the far end of Ventnor Esplanade. It was recommended to us by a local resident and seems to have a good local reputation. There is plenty of outside seating and, on a warm, sunny day, it is doubtless a perfect spot for lunch or dinner. Inside, it is dark and quaint, the food is OK and the portions generous - however, it's nothing special and I've definitely had better food elsewhere. The Spyglass isn't somewhere that I would rush to return to.

Nice pub on sea front with nice outlook on to Ventnor Bay. Pub is cluttered and can get a bit cramped in the evening.

My Wife and her family go to the Isle of Wight regularly and have been visitors for years, they recommended the Spy Glass at Ventnor, so I tried it with them, The Venue is very nautical, with a sort of pirate cum merchant and royal navy of old feel. It's a very nice pub with lots of nooks and crannies, set right on the shore overlooking the English Channel. The decked area outside I imagine could be quite pleasant when the weather is nice, it's on different levels and provided the smokers don't monopolise it, it looks excellent. The Pub itself is clean, staff really friendly, plenty of choices on the menu. The food is bar food, not quite restaurant quality but above average for a pub, and the portions were excellent. There is no rush or hassle from the staff, and even with our odd demands for none of this and extra that etc.. they were willing to help. It's a shame we went in a howling gale, because other than that it was very enjoyable.

Whilst staying in Ventnor, we popped in here for a drink and a bite to eat. We sat outside looking out over the sea and listening to it washing over the rocks below - wonderful. Reasonably good food with ample portions. Recommend.
