For Americans visiting Copenhagen, this hotel was very adequate. The main draw is it's close proximity to Tivoli. Knowing we were going to have dinner, and visit Tivoli our first and second days was the primary reason why I chose The Square.
However, we were also in Europe during the worst heatwave Northern Europe has ever seen (July 2018) Being from Texas we love our air conditioning, but The Square has NONE. The lobby was hot, our rooms were hot. Pretty typical for most older accommodations in Northern Europe. The whole continent was hot! We spent a good portion of the first day searching for a fan, which after two hours of searching, yielded nothing. Finding a fan seemed to be the side mission for most of our European tour, but as far as Copenhagen, they were always sold out. The silver lining is the hotel had purchased multiple small fans, so we requested one. That evening our room had a fan set up inside, and the night was manageable, so props to the staff for doing something about that!
As I said, the main draw is the location. The same block has many pubs (Irish, Scottish and English, yes all three on the same block!) as well as an Espresso House (which are as frequent as Starbucks is in the USA). There were also a handful of restaurant options, and the area was very walkable. City Hall across the street is also worth checking out. Having buses and a metro station (Vesterport) nearby makes getting around easy to other attractions like the Danish Harbor, Little Mermaid, etc.
Probably would not stay here again, just because there are many other hotels nearby to check out. It was also very tricky to unload our luggage from the car (family picked us up from the airport and dropped us off). There was nowhere to park, even temporarily. We had to go around back to a side street to unload and walk a block and a half. Despite that, I have no regrets staying here. The staff providing a fan was greatly appreciated, the room was clean, beds comfortable. Really can't ask for much more (except maybe adding A/C for future exceptionally hot summers that are, sadly, likely to come).
