I ordered the lunch/early evening menu, that you can get until 7pm. I tried the steak, and didn't regret it. Steak was soft and perfectly cooked, spotted on! Great chips with roast tomatoes. And sauce was a very nice touch on the steak. It is not cheap, but not too pricey either if you choose this menu, as for that price we also had dessert. I cannot stress more to try the Cambridge burnt cream, please. Total of the bill for 4 courses and 2 drinks, £42

The 14oz Butler is the best steak I think I've ever had. Medium rare is still pretty rare so maybe go medium. Overall the food is brilliant and the service is awesome too 🙏🏻

Wondered around Cambridge looking for something to eat and stopped to look at the menu, a lady outside said if you like meat stop looking at the menu and go inside, it's the best. Took her word and went inside and my girlfriend and I ordered a Sunday roast. AMAZING! The pork which I ordered simply melted when I cut it, that's the first time I've ever had pork that tender and moist, my girlfriend got the lamb which was incredible as well. Only negative I have is the size of the potatoes, fairly large and would personally have preferred them smaller. Will definitely come back when I visit Cambridge again!

Nice and great quality food. There were 9 of us, and the service was fast.

Came here for Sunday roast on a rainy Cambridge day. The food and the wine were amazing! Staff is very friendly. Great place to enjoy a Sunday afternoon.

The pork must be older than the one I tried in Cambridge Chophouse. The portion is bigger though. The beef is compared with the pork belly.

Lovely place (the entrance is on the left of this picture) and a bit small with a lots of steps and "mind your head" that will give you this little cosy feeling. The meat literally mealt in your mouth 👍

Best Sunday roast I've ever had. Just wow. The beef melts in your mouth. If only this place was in Bristol.

Yelp
Meaty yums. This place was recommended by a friend and I turned up with 12 other girls to feast on a huge amount of meat. I'm sooo glad we came here! I tried: Seared Scallops - they came perched on top of black pudding, and the flavours went together perfectly! These are soooo good. Suffolk Lamb Barnsley Chop - This chop was looovely too. The accompanying veggies weren't completely amazing (which surprised me as the potatoes were cooked in goose fat...which I normally love)but this chop made up for it. I had food envy in all directions as between us we ordered the whole menu, and everything looked delicious! Two of the ladies with our group are vegetarian...and there wasn't much on the menu for them to choose from (that's fair enough! It is a chop house after all!!) BUT the veggy hotpot was apparently really nice so meat lovers can even bring their veggy friends here without feeling TOO guilty.

Yelp
We went for dinner on a Wednesday night as a group and we're pretty underwhelmed. I've been here on numerous occasions over the last decade and seen the chain it belongs to (Cambscuisine) grow from a couple of places to 7 or more now. The quality of the experience and food at the two original Chop house restaurants used to be really great. This is not the case for the John's outlet at least. Because : - the food was relatively expensive (£18 typically) - but weren't that good. Swordfish was overcooked and the beef ribs were pretty fatty. - the service was a bit sporadic and considering it wasn't that busy, not that good. I got a sense the staff were out at the bar chatting a bit too much. - there were spelling mistakes all over the specials board (minor but suggests a lack of care) - the portion size of the beef was just too big. It's nice when somewhere doesn't scrimp, but it just got embarrassing to leave. I think next time I'll stick to the staples (sausage and mash etc) which they're less likely to get wrong. As an aside, it bugs me that they've kept the same menu arrangement (I.e. Stick it on a disposable placemat) at many of their restaurants and it devalues the individuality of them. Cambridge is FULL of chains so we go to the Cambscuisine places to avoid that.

Yelp
Excellent food, plentiful and cooked well, plus friendly service. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. The menu is very similar to The Cambridge Chophouse on King's Parade; I believe they're owned by the same people. Either is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
A very good modern take on traditional English food. Unashamedly traditional and gamey food is on offer with a few more standard offerings for the less adventurous. They seem to take their food quite seriously and the service is attentive but unobtrusive. The only things that were really wrong were that the complimentary bread was rubbish - basically just large chunks of a sandwich loaf (they'd really have been better not bothering) - and the music selection was incongruous and awful but was thankfully on very quietly. Be sure to ask to be seated upstairs, it's much nicer up there.

Yelp
We worked with the staff to arrange for a 3 course meal for 30+ persons plus 3 kids meals. We made all the arrangements by email and by phone as we were coming from outside of the UK. Food was delicious and was served hot all at the same time. The service was flawless. Staff was very helpful and professional. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Needed a coffee a this pub was the nearest. Nice ambiance inside and surprisingly busy. Menu looked really good.

Yelp
St Johns chop house is always a very special meal. Again, part of Cambs Cuisine so you know the quality will be top notch. The steaks are always well cooked and succulent. Delicious.

Yelp
My expectations were high, but alas, I had an underwhelming experience here. I got sausages and mash, and the choice in sausage was exciting. They had several options, and I got pork, cheddar, and leek. But it was completely unspectacular sausage. Oh well. I'd certainly give this place another chance if I'm ever in Cambridge again. I'd get something gamey and more special than sausages and mash.

Yelp
I award this joint 4 stars with the caveat that this rating applies heavily upon the particular dish ordered. In short---skip the starters (Rating= "blah") and desserts (Rating = "meh"), and save that belly room for the mains. And when I say "mains" I mean the MEAT...this is a chop house after all. The pork chop was juicy and flavorful, and my friend's lamb chop looked enviously tasty. Tom B. is probably right concerning their medieval-looking bread provided, and Jason G. why did you order sausage & mash at a chop house? It's like going to a diner and ordering a hot dog. All in all, St. John's Chop House is great for meat eaters looking for that scrumptious slab of meat and little else. Rawr.

Yelp
Went because this made top ten list of independent budget eateries in Cambridge [http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2012/dec/05/cambridge-top-10-budget-restaurants]. Very friendly service, excellent ale, nice ambiance. Food, meh. Ordered the lamb chop, nicely crisped at the fatty edge and tasty, but in the end, the dish was merely serviceable--nothing special. And, definitely not very budget-y.
