"Dublin is unsurprisingly awash with watering holes where you can nurse a pint or two. Many of the city's landmark pubs are highly decorative Victorian affairs with acres of brass, etched glass, wood paneling and cozy snugs, or private nooks. Tucked down a small alleyway, this is one such impressive example, with a high quotient of locals and an all-day buzz."

Google
Stopped in during our trip to Dublin for a pint of Guinness and loved the classic pub atmosphere — rich wood interiors, great service, and one of the best-poured pints we had in the city. We ended up returning later that night for their comedy show upstairs, and it was a brilliant decision. The lineup was hilarious, the room had a cozy, intimate feel, and the vibe was spot-on. A perfect blend of old-school charm and lively entertainment. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a proper Dublin pub experience with a little something extra!

Google
Had the best Guinness here! Relaxed and cosy atmosphere, don’t miss out and visit here on your next trip to Dublin!

Google
Must go irish pub. Excellent atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. Yes the stags head is really! And behind the bar there is also a dik-dik! Google it! Ask them to ring the bell too

Google
Stopped in here for breakfast. Got the big Irish breakfast and it was a plateful of goodness. Worth the money and guaranteed to fill you up. Great service and atmosphere too.

The best spicy burger I ever ate! Although I don't like bacon it really had a taste. I also recommend Rockshore iris lager. Very polite stuff. You can sit wherever you want. You are very welcome to do so.

The food was great, the service was really friendly and the place is authentic and comforting. Would recommend to anyone visiting Dublin

Google
Absolutely beautiful pub!! We loved everything about our visit to The Stags Head. The service, the food, the Guinness, the atmosphere - everything was amazing!

Google
Great pub, usually busy. I wouldn't go with a large group. But well worth a visit, original old Dublin pub with great pints

Yelp
First time we swung by the kitchen was closed so we had just a couple drinks. We came back the next day and ordered food. They have live music plan most nights and the ambience is traditional Irish just one block off the main strip and definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Fun Irish pub atmosphere. They were a tad busy when we first arrived but they still took our order quickly. Hubby ordered the Irish stew which was rich and flavorful. It was paired with mashed potatoes which were quite dry, but the stew did help balance that. I had the fish n chips. The fish was amazing. Very light and airy batter and it was cooked perfectly. Served on a bed of mushy peas which were the perfect balance of peas and mint. Paired with a little mixed salad. Everything was lovely. We'll return on next years visit.

Yelp
Typical Irish pub with history, can imagine its golden days when you walk in. Great atmosphere, with a few screens for games.

Yelp
Iconic place, good drinks, crazy busy when we were there but overall good fun. The floors are mad sticky and something or someone bit my ankle lol. It was definitely something. Extremely loud here so you have to yell to have a conversation but that was all part of the experience I suppose.

Yelp
Stopped in for a few pints. Great time and great pints. The bartender was very friendly and atmosphere was nice.

Yelp
Came here for a story-telling event. Food and drink was not included, so we got there early because to see if we could order some from the pub to have during the show. The employee I spoke to seemed a bit confused by what I meant and we ended up sitting down in the pub and eating beforehand. The food was pretty good. Very solid. Amazing? Not quite. I added salt to my chowder, and my father said the patty of his burger could've used more salt/seasoning. I know salt level is personal preference though, and as an American maybe I'm used to saltier food. Still, this was my first time in an Irish pub and it seems like a fun place.

Yelp
Cottage Pie & Guinness Stew in the Snug, Thank You Dylan for taking care of us while we tried to avoid the tourist traps!! 100% authentic environment and food was amazing, perfectly poured Guinness!!

Yelp
Came for lunch on the weekend and it was very very easy to find a seat. Irish coffee was really bomb. Great service although I did sit at the counter. The seafood chowder was okay, I'm glad I tried it but I don't necessarily recommend it. It was good but it wasn't anything special. I am in love with the beef and guinness stew. So full of flavor and the potatoes were a perfect consistency. I think the food hours on the website are wrong, I think it's just 12-6pm for food. I tried to come on Friday night at 6:30pm since the website said it was until 7pm and they were no longer serving food and it was a packed house inside on all floors. I'd come back for the food. It's a very loud pub/ drinking situation at night if that's your vibe.

Yelp
Great pint in a traditional atmosphere. Friendly staff. Very authentic atmosphere. We we in for the after work crowd and the staff handled the crown magnificently.

Yelp
I went here for drinks with a friend and though the vibe was fun and drink's refreshing, our waiter was quite rude which soured the moment. We both got non-sweet ciders and thoroughly enjoyed them. Locals recommend going here for good prices as most bars in the area are overpriced.

Yelp
Horrible offensive bartender behavior. This is what I wrote to the company contact email regarding my service today: Hello, Today around 2:00, my mother and I were stopping in for a pint and a photo of the stag on the wall for posterity sake, when an irate pony-tailed bar tender shouted at me saying, "DON'T TAKE MY PICTURE!" It stunned me so much, I thought he was joking, so I laughed but when I saw his red face and his finger pointing at my face, I realized he was very mad! My 81 yr old mother who was standing next to me said "She's not taking your picture she's taking the picture of the stag!" So this red faced bar tender shouted and continued pointing at my face, yelled "Well take a picture of the stag, not Me!!!!" Please find attached photo of the stag which you will see an absence of the pony-tailed red faced bar tender and please convey my apology for accidentally flattering this man into thinking I'd ever want a photo of him! If I wanted a picture of a horse's ass I'd have gone to the horse's ass pub! You might also explain to your employee that we had walked for 2 miles to enjoy your place but after that experience, we left! Dublin has a lot of jewels, unfortunately, I no longer your consider your establishment to be one of them. Sincerely, Kim D'Allen

An authentic, proper Dublin pup. Lively crowd great trad musicians. Get there early and stay late if you can.

Yelp
Me and three girls went to meet my friend in this bar on St Patrick's day. We walked up to the door and before we could say anything the bouncer looked at us and said "no" saying that we were too young. Despite us asking him to check our IDs (we were all 20 and 21) he shooed us off not even looking at our identification. He gave us no other reason for not letting us in. My friend who I was meeting was allowed into the bar, and she is younger than I am. It was the rudest treatment I've ever experienced. My friend (who I hadn't seen in months) had to come outside to bar to talk to us. And when she went to walk back into the bar (where the rest of her friends were) this man denied her entry even though he had previously let her in and she'd been in there for an hour. She tried explaining this too him and asked why he wasn't letting her back in. His response was that "he didn't need a reason." It was obvious that he didn't let her in because he had seen her with us. We were not rude to this man and literally hadn't said a word when we originally walked up and he shooed us away. My friend who was trying to get back in had her friend who was still in the Stag's Head to come down, but this guy was not budging and refused to let her back in. This kind of behavior was clearly to feed his ego because he was denying other girls our age (who are of the legal drinking age). He also eventually told us that the reason he wasn't letting us in is because we are American. Again, he was treating us horribly before we had said a word. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a bouncer for literally no reason at all. It is disgusting how a person can act when they have just a little bit of power.

Yelp
Delicious Pub fare. I had the fish & chips and the burger was solid. The environment was festive in the very best way a pub can be. Service was fine and friendly, too. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Busy spot, but a good spot, despite its touristy reputation. Stopped in for a quick bite after my walking tour. Despite having bookmarked this place ahead of time, the tour guide also made a point in mentioning it, so the decision was easy. I wasn't going to drink, but one of the other guys on the tour ended up stopping in right after I sat down so I had a Guinness with him. The Guinness stew was plentiful and filling, a bigger lunch than maybe I would have liked, but my gluttonous self finished it up anyway. There's a taxidermized fox in the back room. See if the staff knows the story about it.

Gaby Z.

Yelp
We stopped for the food and loved the service and ambiance. The food was absolutely amazing, but come early, kitchen closes at 6:00. We got some great recommendations on whiskey for the rookie. We order burger, cottage pie and the Irish stew. The stew was absolutely amazing, the beef was very tender.

Evieta S.

Yelp
Nice place, less touristy. Friendly hostess. Their haddock fish n chip is delicious. Good Irish coffee too.

Yelp
A lovely pub tucked away on a cozy street. Phoebe was was so sweet and helpful. Stop in for a Guinness.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and was impressed. I LOVED the vibe of the place and the wait staff was very friendly and attentive. I got the fish pie and it was good, I wasnt blown away by it but it was solid. There is lots of seating and multiple different areas you can go to. Would recommend coming here for a meal or a pint

Yelp
Good Irish Pub with even better food. Walking in, It's not as big as I expected.. only about 15 barstools with a bar room and some beautiful stained glass & The Stags Head! Obv they pour a great pint of Guinness & some folks next to me said the Irish Coffee was outstanding. The food was really good here.. try the Ham & Cheese Toastie/ Ham hock, Dubliner Irish Cheddar with a homemade bechamel sauce on sourdough!! The Beef & Guinness stew is also outstanding. Good stop for a pint they said.

Yelp
Great ambience! It's a must-see in Dublin. Great antlers over the bar. Obscure location. This is Dublin. Do it!

Yelp
Wanted to check out this pub based on Yelp's recommendations, but left disappointed. The decor looked awesome and seemed like a cozy place for a drink. I got in and sat at the bar. It wasn't too busy given that it was still in the afternoon. A couple bartenders passed me by and didn't even acknowledge or say hi. On particular, a girl bartender was filling ice right in front of me and didn't even look up to say hi. Then, I finally asked for the menu, to which a male bartender said which one? I answered and said drinks menu. He said he doesn't have drinks menu and it's just whatever you see at the bar, he said in a dull, unfriendly manner. Pretty much at this time, I was turned off and didn't want to order anything. The poor service and snooty vibes had me turning for the doors.

Yelp
One of our highlights on our trip to Ireland. Great atmosphere and people. Would definitely recommend to anyone traveling into the city center
google avatar

Yelp
We went to so many pubs in Ireland, but this one really left its mark. I believe it's the oldest in Dublin, so it's a bit of a tourist site. However there were lots of locals as well and staff was super friendly to everyone. There's so many different seating areas, inside and out, and the food looked amazing (however we didn't eat). Definitely recommend if in Dublin!
google avatar

Kelsi T.

Yelp
Amazing Guinness stew. Service is fast and welcoming. The pub is cozy. Two seating areas, larger pub and small seating area for smaller parties. We will absolutely be back.

Kyle L.

Yelp
This is an amazing place. Must go anytime we're in Dublin. Do yourself a favor and get the toastie with a Guinness.

Lynn K.

Yelp
My husband and I had drinks and dinner at the Stagshead. We each received a medium-sized piece of tasty battered cod. I would have liked twice that amount of fish for dinner. The Hollandaise sauce was good. Our meals came with lots of chips (fried potatoes). I liked the small side salad with an oil and vinegar dressing that was light on the vinegar. I enjoyed a small bottle of Schweppes tonic water mixed with a small bottle of cranberry juice. My husband had a beer. When we visited around 5:00 pm, everyone else was drinking beer but not having food. This may be more of a drinking establishment than a restaurant. The menu was not huge. The interior is pretty with lots of stained glass windows and pretty wood carving. The service was great. When you are walking down Dame St, you come to a mosaic in the sidewalk advertising the Stagshead. You need to turn into the passageway and walk 75 yards. When you emerge from the passageway, you will be at the front door of the pub. There is seating both inside and outside.

Yelp
I had a seat at the bar, the bar tenders were pretty friendly, I ordered some oysters as an appetizer, they were incredible large and fresh. I also had the claim chowder soup, it was delicious and it came with two slices of delicious sour bread. Overall I really enjoy this places, good service and good food, I didn't give it a five starts because the food menu is very limited.

Yelp
Fantastic Dublin pub ambience. Service was quick and engaged. Patrons friendly, a fun place to have a pint.

Yelp
If you want a quintessential pub experience in Dublin, this is the place you want to be! The warm wood panelling and stained glass windows create a welcoming ambience, as do the kind and attentive staff. My daughter and I came here on my last evening in Dublin. She is a student at Trinity College Dublin but hadn't yet experienced The Stag's Head! We both ordered a pint of Guinness as we waited for our food. While I had traditional fish and chips, she decided to go with something lighter and had their Roast Vegetarian sandwich (sundried tomatoes, roasted red peppers, goat's cheese, basil and arugula pesto), surprisingly fresh and delicious! The Stag's Head was a perfect choice to cap off a wonderful holiday in gorgeous Ireland!

Mary C.

Yelp
This man was the rudest person I have ever met in my life. We came to Stag's Head to meet up with our friends on St. Patrick's Day. As we walked up, he immediately denied us saying that we looked too young without checking our I.D.s even though we offered several times to show him (we were all 20 and 21). We were trying to be nice and ask for a reason why he wouldn't let us in to meet our friends who were inside, but he kept flicking us away saying he wouldn't talk to us. After we moved to the side, several other young women came up to us with the same problem. What I don't understand is that our friends who are younger than us were let in not even an hour before. This behavior is ridiculous, especially for a major holiday in London. This was an ego trip for this man, and it is disgusting that he acted like this on a major holiday in Dublin. I hope he sees this review and realizes that his behavior was abominable.

Yelp
Upon landing in Dublin after 11 hours on a plane we needed food and beer. Happened upon Stag's Head. Looked like I had pictured an Irish pub in my head so we gave it a chance. All in our group of four were super happy with the food. Our first Guinness in Ireland and boy, we were not disappointed! Friendly staff and great atmosphere.

Yelp
Stopped by on long layover. Great ambiance and food. Service was outstanding. Good spot with some history behind it.

Yelp
Best seafood chowder in the history of the world. No exaggeration. Guinness and Bulmers are delish too!
google avatar

Tiffany D.

Yelp
Guinness time! It's simply wonderful and very touristy to have one here in the heart of pub crawl and life! Admirable stag's head. Comedy they have downstairs during certain evenings! Grab a beer, enjoy and hope over to the next bar - pubs hopping!
google avatar

Adam F.

Yelp
Lovely pub with an excellent fish pie. It's tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the street and is just big enough to accommodate a small party. Would highly recommend is you're looking for authentic Irish food.
google avatar

Yelp
Classic Irish pub in a very touristy part of town. The food was actually quite tasty. Wonderful seafood chowder and they pour a fine Guinness. Beautiful ambiance altogether and definitely would return. Great staff like most pubs in Ireland.

Yelp
Our favorite pub in Dublin! Literally the best stew I've had in my life! Went in here with our kids twice during our four days in Dublin and it was consistently the best meal we had in Dublin! The service was amazing and Paul, the bar tender was the sweetest

Yelp
Best bar in Dublin PERIOD (at least in my opinion). The best part about this place, the bartenders. Hands down, they were amazing. They knew their stuff and they talked with me and my fellow Americans for hours. We ended up having about 5-7 drinks here, ridiculous I know. But the vibe was right and we just rolled with it. I truly enjoyed my cocktail which I believe was a Black Russian, with a twist (a Guinness head). I think it's called an Irish Black Russian. One of the bartenders told us he knew I was American because of that drink and low and behold, everyone in the place was drinking some type of beer or Guinness LOLOL. I didn't mind, we had a fabulous time. The decor is very old world and vintage, authentic wood paneling/fixtures. Would come here again in a heartbeat!!

Yelp
Down an alley, but not more than a stone's throw away from the Temple Bar area of Dublin, is Stag's Head. I prefer the smaller crowd of Stag's Head to the hustle and bustle of Temple Bar (unless the mood for some good craic strikes). The old feel of the booths and woodwork, with stained glass windows takes you back in time. Prices are cheaper than Temple Bar area and the bartenders are informative and friendly. I had my first Irish coffee here years ago and it's still one of the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
Great pub in Temple Bar that came highly recommended by both Yelp/Tripadvisor and my friend who used to live in Dublin. The menu was pretty limited (I'm guessing because of covid) so we just popped in really quickly for some oysters and a few pints of Guinness. The oysters were huge, fresh and delicious. Hopefully they are able to re-expand their menu soon!

Leni N.

Yelp
Authentic , great service! Dublin ambiance is welcoming. the food and beer , excellent! Lots of cute Irish guys , friendly! I will come back again whenever I am Ireland.

Karen K.

Yelp
What a great pub! Best fish and chips and seafood stew! Great atmosphere. Such a beautiful spot!

Yelp
Wandered in here for a quick beer. Went up to the second floor for the "beer parlor" which I think may have been a mistake. The area was luxurious and ringed by soft couches and a nicely dressed bartender/mixologist. After we had a seat, I went over to the bar to ask for a pint. Since there were Rockshore coasters littered all over every table in the parlor, I asked for that. Bartender said, "if you want that you'll have to get it down stairs". My pretension sense began to tingle. To his credit, the mixologist offered an alternative crisp beer. It cost around 6 euro. I finished it and left. While the view was nice, the beer was over priced and apparently served differently at different levels of the building. Go here for the view and service. Expect to pay for it though.

Yelp
Awesome authentic local Dublin Irish pub... Be sure to go in and check it all out grab a drink or two and get cozy. Amazing ambience inside. Not to be missed in the Temple bar area

Yelp
Had so much fun. Went to visit for a BDay celebration. Great place. Great atmosphere. Awesome staff. Would definitely go back.

Yelp
We had the Toastie sandwich. Delicious and the service was great. An example of a genuine Irish pub. The young woman who served us was delightful. Can't go wrong with this choice.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
What a great place to have a cold drink, eat some traditional Irish food and talk to some wonderful local people. With so many great reviews I had to come check this place out. Great location in Dublin, down this small alley close to Grafton St. Walking in you just get this feel of a traditional older pub with a Victorian decor. Lot's of tables close to each other... love the friendly setting. I sat up at the bar, looking up at the large Stag mounted head. I started with a delicious Irish coffee made to perfection! Had some brown bread.. so good. The pub offers a lot of whiskeys, the bartender recommend we try a few... no complaints. Sitting at the bar was great, talking so many locals was a blast. I really enjoyed this pub and the atmosphere.

Yelp
This place is truly the perfect Irish pub. Jovial but not obnoxiously rowdy, friendly folks behind the bar, and a beautifully poured pint of Guinness. It's only a tad off the beaten path, but you'll feel worlds away from the fray of Temple Bar once you've arrived. Beautiful trappings and cozy wood paneling will surround you, and each time we came we ended up striking up great chats (erm, craic) with those around us - locals and visitors alike. This will be the first place I head whenever I'm lucky enough to find myself back in Dublin.
