Really nice Opera House. The architecture, paintings and decorations are mind-blowing. The food in the atrium is good. The plays are nice. It's a bit sad that many people go there in casual or even tourist clothes. In my opinion Opera House is a place people should be let in only in formal or event clothes like tuxedo, or even a shirt and nice trousers would be enough.

This is a must do when visiting Prague! I love booking the little private balconies for a wonderful view and experience, but honestly, there are no bad views in this beautiful historic building.

Attending the opera at the State Opera (Státní opera) in Prague is a truly captivating experience that blends world class performance with the grandeur of a historic venue. The acoustics are superb, the orchestra and vocalists deliver with remarkable precision and passion, and the staging is both elegant and thoughtfully executed. The venue itself is a masterpiece, lavishly restored with ornate detailing that transports you to another era the moment you step inside. It’s not just a cultural highlight of Prague, but a must for any traveler who appreciates the performing arts. An unforgettable evening in every sense.

Amazing opportunity to visit the beautiful venue and watch a superb ballet. Easy to find, friendly staff, bar and food available. Cloakroom. You are unable to take any food or drink into the theatre seats. Highly recommended if you are visiting this wonderful city.

During our holiday in Czechia, my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the State Opera in Prague — and what a treat it was! From the moment we approached the building, we were completely wowed by its stunning architecture. Truly a sight to behold! Stepping inside, our mouths dropped — the elegance and opulence of the decor took our breath away. The service was impeccable, from the cloakroom to the lovely staff who guided us to our seats. It was all so smooth and welcoming. As for the opera itself, sublime would be an understatement. The performance was captivating, and the historic yet splendid surroundings only made the experience even more magical. The interim sessions were fantastic too, with a delightful selection of refreshments and snacks to keep us fuelled during the breaks. I simply cannot wait to return and enjoy another unforgettable opera evening with my wife. If you’re in Prague, this is an experience you don’t want to miss!

The State Opera in Prague is a true gem of European culture, offering an unforgettable experience for opera lovers and newcomers alike. The beautifully restored neo-Renaissance building exudes grandeur, with its opulent interiors, gilded details, and a breathtaking chandelier that sets the stage for world-class performances. The acoustics are exceptional, ensuring that every note resonates with clarity and emotion. The repertoire is diverse, featuring both classic masterpieces and innovative productions, performed by outstanding soloists and a top-tier orchestra. Whether you’re a seasoned opera enthusiast or a first-time visitor, the State Opera promises a magical evening in the heart of Prague.

Yelp
Beautiful building. Not only outside but inside as well. And with a rich history. It was always kind a counterpart to the National theatre. National theatre was a czech theatre and Státní opera was a german one (it was called New German theatre). After WW2 it was renamed to Smetana theatre. It became Opera house after Velvet revolution and it´s called State Opera since 1992. Perfomancies are almost every day. Mainly classical pieces from the world repertoire. But there are not so known plays sometimes. The quality of performance can be lower, sometimes, not usually. Actually happend to me only once and I go there pretty often. But ok, it´s not La Scala or any other famous Opera house and they can´t afford to pay the best of the best. But I still think that the quality of perfomancies is pretty high. So go and check it. Trust me, a bit of culture is always good.

Yelp
Saw Romeo and Juliette ballet. Bravo! Bravo!!! Excellent sets, dancing, details, orchestra, etc. Lovely building. Bring a fan and wear minimal clothing as you will be dripping sweat. It is extremely warm inside.

Yelp
This was my first time at the opera! We chose to see Elektra at their Saturday evening showing. I was impressed with how stunning the Opera building is outside and inside. Come for both the architecture and the amazing show! This is a great opportunity for people traveling from the United States to enjoy opera for much more affordable prices. Elektra is a sister production currently with the San Francisco Opera, where I am from. Prices for tickets to the Opera in San Francisco tend to be at least 2-3x the amount of what we paid. Take advantage of this value! The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the seats were very uncomfortable. I kept having to adjust my position throughout the show and that was very distracting. Also, my view was a little obstructed in the particular seat we had chosen. Elektra was a great choice for a novice opera watcher, with it being under 2 hours without an intermission. The opera was in German and they provided subtitles on a large screen above the stage in both English and Czech. I only dosed off once, but my friend who has seen several operas assured me that this was normal! This was definitely a great cultural experience and I recommend incorporating a showing of the opera into your next trip to Prague!

Yelp
This is a BEAUTIFUL opera house. Came to see Hansel and Gretel and was really impressed. I have been to the opera at the Metropolitan in NYC many times, and this venue and performance was just as beautiful. I was surprised it was sung in Czech as it was originally a german opera, but none the less enjoyed the show very much and would recommend to everyone of all ages! There was also a large monitor above to project in Czech and english.

Yelp
The state opera house was finished in 1888 and has been called a few different names over the decades when the state was occupied by Germany and Russia. The building has been preserved and restored beautifully. I was lucky enough to see Le Barbier de Seville and was not disappointed. The play was done in French and translated on screens into German and Czech. A few minutes in and you realize you dont need language at all between the great acting and music. This place is worth the visit just to take in the rich history where so many great artists have been and to witness the amazing detail in the paintings and ceilings throughout the building.

Yelp
This opera house is beautiful. As students we were able to afford box tickets for $20. Rusalka was a great show and the english subtitles helped. Unfortunately after the 3rd hour we had to leave because the show was running long but we had an amazing time.
