The Staveley Store

If you are a traveler on the Inland Scenic Route (72) in the NZ South Island the Staveley Store @ Stavely is a must stop. We were greeted by staff and made to feel most welcome. The range of Cafe food and drinks is excellent but the Beef Brisket & Mushroom Pie in a delicious golden crusty case with a side of home made relish was WOW! Amazing. Without doubt the best pie I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I will be dreaming about this pie in my sleep! We asked the staff and they said the Pie was locally made. The ambience of the store has a rural / country feel to it. A big wide veranda and plenty of outside tables and chairs for a sunny day. Inside dining is also an interesting experience with many photos on the wall of locals entertaining themselves with a variety of activities - not the least of which is a game of ice hockey on a rink just outside town. Well done everyone. Keep it up. 👍👏🏻

What a group of ladies that were working to serve the most amazing food and drinks (Hot and Cold) we also purchase some NZ honey and wow wow wow what beautiful honey it is, they also have some hand knitted products. We stopped as we were heading to a beautiful nature walk called Sharplin Falls do your self a favor and drive on out and check them out so worth the walk a little hooray times but nothing to strenuous.

The Store became our morning ritual whilst staying in The Canterbury District. Couldn’t have done the hikes with out the best coffee and treats priority to the walks. And some occasions we made it back in time for afternoon tea. Staff always friendly chatty and classic kiwi banter. The setting is as rural as you can get. Views of the plains,mout somers and some lovey poddy calves in the paddock across the road. Thanks again ladies for the chats food and friendly atmosphere❤️

Stopped for buying some snack before heading to Mt Alford track and I’m so regret why I didn’t made any stop before! The option of food was so special combination and is really yummy ! Hvnt try the coffee yet (cause I got one in my car ) but definitely will back next time to enjoy the meal and drink in the store 🫶🏻 I just plan to get one savoury but end up add on another sweet 😙

Stopped here on the way to Sharplin Falls, and it was a really cozy, vintage, "homey vibe" place for a coffee. Staff were really friendly, explained the menu well, and they had a really nice range of signature coffee drinks too thought were a nice touch. I tried a cola with espresso, liked it more than I thought I would. Will definately stop by again next time we are in the area.

Stopped here just because we were hungry and we were so happy we did!! So beautiful designed inside, really cute. Really friendly lady served us! The thick shake was so nice and so was my partners iced coffee- they both came in the cutest glasses. Nice mushroom toastie too. They had so many nice options, all looked healthy too. They had a store in there as well with locally made products Really glad we stopped and I would certainly stop again if I came this way.

What an absolute gem of a country store at the bottom of the foothills. They went above and beyond to create a truly memorable high tea for us. The food was perfection — fresh sandwiches just like Grandma used to make, beautiful home baking that tasted like it came straight from Aunty Nessie’s farm kitchen, and a gorgeous modern twist with fresh salmon blinis and delicious chicken sliders. Even though the café was busy, the attention to detail never slipped. The personal care and kindness shown to my elderly aunt was genuinely beautiful and meant so much to our family. Warm, thoughtful service paired with outstanding food — you don’t find that combination often. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We’ll absolutely be back.

Cute cafe, but Einspanner matcha did not taste good even after adding a vanilla syrup -had to extra sugar to make it taste better. Doesn’t taste like matcha, would suggest making it stronger, and making the cold foam of the einspanner sweeter. Also the size is really small :( Loved the atmosphere in and outside the cafe though :)

Very friendly and pleasant place for breakfast. I had the lemon muffin and the mocha, both of which were lovely. My friend said the latte and the bacon and egg buttie were also good. Highly recommended if you are looking for a nice place to stop, have a cup, and plan for the day ahead. (The restroom is also spotless -- bonus points!)
