Bought my wife here for her 40th birthday, the service, food and drinks are second to none. We had a fish platter that was exceptional in all aspects. We stayed in one of the lovely rooms with a view out to the harbour. Absolutely perfection. Thank you so much.

Lovely food and great real ales. I had my first Cullen Skink which was one of the best things I've ever shoved in my face. The location of the pub/restaurant is on a very beautiful harbour in a little village. Food was a little expensive but was good quality. I'd still recommend this place though.

Had the most amazing meal here - traditional dishes with a modern twist and just so tasty. The Inn overlooks the Harbour area - coastal rowers to be seen out on their Skiffs. We also stayed the night in a beautiful room with thoughtful touches. To top it all, they are pet friendly. Amazing food and a beautiful room. Will definitely be returning here!

Delicious food and excellent real ales! I tried Cullen Skink for the first time, and it was absolutely incredible. The pub sits by a charming harbour in a picturesque village, adding to the experience. Prices are a bit on the higher side, but the quality makes it worth it — definitely recommend!

The location of this hotel is brilliant. Rooms on the front overlook the harbour which is delightful. Sitting there watching the wildlife and the humans is fascinating. The drawback is perhaps late at night when the humans insist on loud lubricated conversation after 23.30. The room was spacious and comfortable. The bed though was a small double and might not suit some people. The bathroom was adequate but really needed an upgrade . The hotel seems to be definitely on the up so maybe these things will come. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the whole place very relaxed. The star in our view is the restaurant and the specials menu. The cooking is quite superb with local fresh ingredients and a wine list that is excellent and not extortionate for the quality on offer. It is definitely quite a cut above the ordinary pub menu. It's really the only choice in the area south of Newton Stewart but thats no hardship.

We ate here recently. We had Hoggett Wellington. The meat was superb, the veg just right and an interesting selection, roast potatoes very good. The only thumbs down was for the pastry which was soggy, undercooked I'd say - not at all the deliciously flaky puff pastry we'd hoped for. Excellent beer and very friendly and efficient staff. Would definitely come here again.

Great pub. Lovely home cooked food. Not a massive menu but seems better for it. Lots of fish dishes , lobster sandwich , fish and chips , pie of the day , soup of the day etc. Well worth a visit . You can stay here but we didn't. We just visited for the day. Glad we popped in for lunch. Note the opening times for the restaurant it's not open all day. Definitely recommended 👍

Yelp
The Steam Packet Hotel is a great place to eat out. We are local so havent stayed in the hotel side of it, but the resturant is lovely. We came for a meal for my mums Birthday back in June. (Me, my husband, my two toddlers & baby, and my mum) The resturant is nicely laid out, smart and welcoming but not too posh. Alastair the owner? manager? was brilliant. He Waited on us perfectly, had a laugh with my 1.5 year old who kept wanting to offer Alastair food as he went past. Not even a hint of disapproving of us turning up with 3 wee children in tow! They gave us a wonderful big jug of iced water, and a selection of nibbles, rolls and dip to be getting on with while we waited for our meal. The bread rolls were scrumptious! I bet they were homebaked, certainly not like something out of a supermarket packet. My mum had the steak and it was absolutely gorgeous so she tells me. It was a decent portion size, and was cooked to perfection just like she asked. My husband had a curry and again a decent portion for the money, he loved his meal too. Kids loved their sausage meal, proper sausages too not cheapy rubbish. Now im the fussy one and there wasnt anything on the menu to my taste, as im not a big meat or fish person. There was nothing like a baked potato on the menu(yes ok so you cant take me anywhere, all the posh nosh and i wanted a spud and cheese lol). However Alastair was most acoomodating and managed to get the kitchen people to rustle me up one, if only 'Jim'll fix it' listened to my wishes as well as the Steam Packet staff did lol! The potato didnt disappoint, it was yummy. We enjoyed our meal and left happy and with full tummies. We will definately be back (though perhaps hubby should leave me at home with a spud in the microwave next time for embarrasing them heehee!)

Yelp
We live locally so never stayed in the hotel but have visited the pub and restaurant many times. Its a very relaxed and friendly place to dine and extremely child friendly, great when you have 5 children! And you can't beat having a drink on the harbour on a nice sunny afternoon (scotland DOES have sunny days occasionally!). I have had a variety of the foods off the menu and not one complaint to be had. Highly recommended.
