A Horror Buff's Great American Roadtrip

"Horror author Stephen King was born in Maine and has used the state as the setting for many of his stories. Despite his fame and wealth, he still lives in his home state, in a rather distinctive mansion just outside of downtown Bangor. The houses in his neighborhood are all large and expensive-looking, but they’re close to the street, which is wide and easily accessible, with a public sidewalk winding throughout. King’s house is red with white trim, towering, and old enough to look historic. It’s also in full view of the street, not hidden behind the small wrought-iron fence that surrounds the property. The fence itself is most of what gives the house its Stephen King-esque flair. Spiders, bat-winged creatures, and a three-headed reptile all decorate the black wrought-iron. Adapted with Permission from: The New England Grimpendium by J.W. Ocker Update as of February 2021: King left this house around a year ago as he now resides in Florida" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Well it really seems like this is a super cool nice house with a cool creepy statue and things on their fence. I would love to see this dude and talk to him in the future because I would love to talk to someone with such an unlimited mind set. Bangor is a cool place. Apparently they are turning this house into a museum and writers retreat. Would love to see inside.

I'm a huge Stephen King fan, so being able to see his home and the place where so much of his writing took place was beyond cool. It's a quiet neighborhood, and not many people stopped to visit, so taking photos was relaxing. I'm camping right now in Bangor, and my neighbor grew up in that neighborhood. He talked about remembering Halloween as a kid, going to Kings house because it was THE place to go. He also said that the white house to the right also belongs to Stephen King, as well as the sports park behind it that has since been donated to the city.

It was so cool to stop by and see the house Stephen King use to live in. I'm a huge fan. I had to drive around Bangor to get the feel of the Darry Maine I have read so much about.

So freaking cool. An absolute must see for a Stephen king fan. Very very cool, and we were fortunate enough to have a local showing some of his friends while we were there and he told us all the little cool facts we didn’t know and gave us some photo op ideas that other people had done, and let us know other places we should check out nearby too. Stephen kings house has very cool gates and some statues on them, and a big wooden statue he added too in his lawn. Honestly was a little bit weird taking pictures in front of someone’s house (even though I know that’s what lots of people do) but I could’ve spent all day just gawking at it. It was so incredibly cool. I feel both jealous and sorry for all the neighbours having to deal with the tourists but also living next to this house would be so awesome.

I hope one day we are able to go inside and tour this magnificent home, but for now, standing outside was incredible. You can feel a different vibe for sure

A must see for any King fan. I was fortunate to be able to stop by during free time on a work trip. Although it is not open to the public, it is such a treat to see the iconic former home of the King's. I saw it on an overcast weekday, when crows were ever present and cawing, and few people were around, which seemed fitting (the right spooky mood). I went back on Saturday when it was sunny, and ran into a handful of groups also around to take photos. Both views were great, and it was fun to connect briefly with others making the same pilgrimage.

Although it is posted not to enter so many ignore it and walk the grounds. Don't be that person. Enjoy the walk outside and stay for the neighborhood. I did check the storm drain... no red balloons.
