Google
5 star service from Matt at the Roastoreum! I went in looking for an at-home solution to making my favourite café latte without needing to spend 1000$ on an espresso machine. Matt was able to walk me through many different options - but ultimately we landed on the Aeropress! He then proceeded to experiment on the spot with water to coffee ratios to ensure I could get that perfect “espresso” using the Tsunami blend. Just made my first at home latte and I’m in LOVE with the result! Thank you Matt - above and beyond customer service and coffee expertise.

Google
The coffee is really good! I got an oat latte and my partner ordered a mocha with oat milk, he loves it and mind you he's really picky with his coffee but this place hits the spot! Highly recommended. I've attached their latest menu as of June 2023.

Great drinks and amazing sandwiches! The chipotle BBQ Turkey sandwich is the best. Staff is extremely welcoming, friendly and energetic. Great spot in Sooke for a quick visit or to sit either inside or on the outdoor patio area.

If you’re reading this, you’re likely saddened to learn that The Stick has temporarily closed. 😢 Where else can we go to enjoy such amazing caffeinated beverages and scrumptious baking in the company of incredibly kind and entertaining staff and customers alike? Nothing else comes close to this community-minded institution in Sooke. If you’ve been there, you know what I’m talking about. So here’s the thing… There’s presently a Coop trying to put together finances to buy the Stick. If you adore this place as much as I do, you could be one of them. In the long run, it just might be one of the best investments you ever made. Ps. I attached the Coop info I received while there mid-July in case you may be interested:)

The coffee was delicious. The atmosphere was nice and clean, and the staff were friendly. I think I'm going to love this little café.

Google
Very nice place for good coffee with sweet. They have inside and outside sitting. One toilet inside next to the cashier. The lady who accept orders is very friendly, nice and make you smile with her energy. We love it to spent morning here. Also very dog friendly.

Amazing food and my iced vanilla latte was one of my favorite on Vancouver Island. If you are in town and need a quick bite, stop here. Tons of seating inside and out with a great ambiance. There are places to sit and work too. Loved this place!

Whenever I head to Sooke to hike in the amazing surrounding hills I make a stop here if possible. This cafe screams authentic and local , a real sense of community when you walk through the doors. I love that they promote environmental concerns for the local forests as well. The baking and wraps etc are so good, this stop they had a seasonal gingerbread with frosting that is to die for. I also like the peanut butter wheat free bar they make, perfect for on the trail if you grab one before you go. The coffee is great of course. A real unique charm here and love all the murals inside and out too.

Yelp
Coffee was good and the service courteous Ambiance was eclectic but comfortable and inviting.

Yelp
This coffee shop has set the bar in terms of what a good coffee is. I love the staff, the place, the food is excellent and unique and the coffee is great. Pick up some in house roasted beans! They're awesome. Truly a community place.. slightly hidden, but us regulars will welcome you.

Yelp
Feels like coming home. We moved to the area from Kentucky last year, and have had a hard time connecting with people here during this pandemic. The atmosphere here is that of being welcome- regardless of anything. I experience real, authentic human connection here every time. The staff is of the nicest I've experienced, and every coffee I've had has been carefully made and of utmost quality. My kids absolutely love the trail cookies (which are made from scratch!) and I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to be able to have an array of treat choices made with clean ingredients and minimal processing. I have frequented many a coffee shop all over North America and none hold a "stick" to The Stick!

Yelp
Truly, one of the best lattes I've ever had. Truly. Coffee was a nice blend of strong and smooth. Paired wonderfully with an oat milk. You will not be disappointed. Staff is terrific as well, which is a nice addition to the great coffee.

Yelp
Stopped in at the stick in the mud Cafe on the recommendation of a local that we met at the Sooke Brewing Company. They did not lead us astray. This company it's tucked away in a strip mall connected to several small art galleries and curio shops. Staff were very friendly menu was fairly simple but worth visiting. They offer a breakfast sandwich called an egg a majig that was delicious and hit the spot we also had one of their coconut chocolate cookies equally good. My wife had the Lotte she was happy with it I had a drip coffee called the swallow blend. I assume it is named after the ubiquitous swallows all along the coastline. This coffee was Unreal it is honestly the best cup of coffee I've had in Canada. I drink my coffee black with no sugar so I could taste it unadulterated. You're on vacation in Sooke for 2 weeks I will be going back to this coffee shop frequently and I will be taking some of the swallow blend home with me to Edmonton. The decor what is eclectic Surf Shop and there were plenty of locals having chinwag. Listening to them was highly entertaining there are some characters here. I would recommend this coffee shop to anyone in fact if I lived in Victoria on the weekend I might drive out to Sooke just to have a coffee and enjoy the fresh air.

Yelp
We stopped in for coffee and a French Beach latte. It was honestly the best latte I have ever had and will be back tomorrow for another one. Grabbed a couple cookies for our road trip as well and they were good - my peanut butter one tasted homemade. Hubby liked his oatmeal chocolate chip cookie. Going to try the ginger-molasses tomorrow.

Yelp
Stopped here for a coffee and treat after a hike. The staff were very friendly and really enjoyed what we ordered. I had a London dog with a peanut butter oat bar ( very delicious and filling - what you want after a hike) . I had a bite of my dads carrot cake and it was delicious. Cozy on the inside with nice music playing. Would come back here again.

Yelp
A funky island-esque coffee house in Sooke. A hidden oasis off Otter Point Road. They roast their own small batch coffee. Bit pricey - a cold brew was $5 but the dark blend was very good. I like that they use paper straws. Busy with both locals and visitors. A popular hang-out and pitstop with cyclists and those heading out to the coast. My new fav destination for good local coffee. Worth a visit - a great destination for the Galloping Goose trailgoers.

Yelp
Favourite coffee place in Sooke. Amazing espresso, always made perfect. Have tried a few of the baked goods and they have been good. Great little patio for Saturday morning paper and coffee.

Yelp
I was in Sooke for 2 days for work and I came here both days for a little breakfast and coffee. I'm just a black drip coffee kinda gal and it was a perfect brew. I had the eggamajig the first visit. It was quite flavourful and I liked the crunch of the pressed focaccia. I had the breakfast burrito the next morning and it was also delicious. The service was upbeat and friendly. The atmosphere definitely nailed hipster Van island cafe. They had shelves of VW bus replicas, which I love. Who doesn't daydream of traveling BC in a VW bus! I did some work since I was there alone in the early AM. The wifi was speedy with no glitches. It was raining so I sat inside, but they did have a nice courtyard with a cool mural for sunnier days. Overall I would definitely make a point of returning here. I always choose a cafe like this over a Tims as you know you're ultimately supporting a local venture.

Yelp
Amazing to find a quality coffee shop out here! REAL macchiatos, not that sweet Starbuck-style macchiato (perfectly fine if that's for you). Great quality food and drinks. Wife got a solid mocha, very tasty, not too sweet. Macchiato was amazing, not overly bitter and allowed coffee bean notes to come through. Also got a Cranberry walnut and brie pizza, super good. And they are VERY attentive to allergies as my wife has a serious peanut allergy. There's a smaller quick, grab/go coffee shop (Speed Stick coffee) of theirs which you'll come across if you're walking from Otter Point rd, but go a little further and turn left to get to the main shop. Friendly staff, and great coffee.

Charlotte K.

Yelp
GREAT local business. The staff are friendly and they prepare fantastic coffees. The beans are roasted on site! The food is great... and the menu is always changing. Dog friendly patio... covid protocols in place... BEST cafe on the island.

Lorraine L.

Yelp
Amazing place and great coffee as well as other beverages including some funny egg sandwich thing that you better have your hungry in because it's great! Also the owner? Super sweetie!! Has staff that work hard and care about your order and getting it right!

Amanda D.

Yelp
This place is about as great of a coffee shop as one can imagine. They are tucked away on the back side of a small strip mall, and hidden between two small buildings. The shop has a big patio with nice seating leading up to the front. Service is chill, they're roasting their own beans and serving up some killer espresso and drip coffee. The boyfriend and I stopped in on our way out of Sooke and ended up being blown away by how spot on their coffee is. BF got a capp and after drinking it all, decided to go buy a pound of beans. I did a normal drip coffee and it was perfect for me. Everyone inside was really friendly and welcoming. If you're in Sooke and you need a pick me up, stop in here!

Steve V.

Yelp
Kooky fun staff, great space, superior Panini. I don't think that they called it that though). Great space to lounge in with the Sooke locals, but maybe hard to find off the alley. I loved the mural of the place itself on the wall including all the staff members. Many things to look at inside, I imagine kids would be easily entertained (Bobby Sherman lunch kit, cool art, Volkswagon van toy collection and more). When we asked where we could buy a lemon for our hike trip, they ran and grabbed one and gave it to us. We thought of this place as we bbq'ed fresh mussels on the Juan de Fuca trail. Homey feel for sure! I get the feeling that the thing here is the coffee,..people love it, they roast on premises.

Yelp
Cozy nice environment and friendly staff. Their bakery selection is nice. Heard their coffee is amazing but I haven't tried that yet.

Glenn R.

Yelp
Went for a small iced mocha. The smallest they had was 16 oz. They had almond milk, but no coconut milk nor soymilk. Friendly service. Decent selection of pastries.

Prista C.

Yelp
A little hard to find in the back of a small strip mall along the main drag in Sooke. But if you find it, this is really a nice local place with a hippie vibe. We enjoyed their mochas and homemade pecan bars as well as their egg breakfast sandwich, which had a delicious relish and a little hot sauce, making it particularly unique. If you like coffee, local vibes, hole in the wall, and/or quality, come here.

Kyyorn L.

Yelp
Fantastic ambiance and friendly staff. I would most definitely go again. Their licorice tea is fabulous!

Tisha R.

Yelp
They have almond milk, coffee is delicious, staff Is super friendly. We always make sure to stop by when we're driving through Sooke.

Yelp
I stopped at Stick in the Mud on the recommendation of a friend of mine who lives just north of Sooke. It was Sunday morning at 9am and I was prepared to find them closed (running on island time) but not only were they open but they had plenty of fresh baked on the premises cookies and muffins! I had a small double latte. As I frequently find, their default small latte is 10-12 ounces, almost twice as much milk as I feel a double latte can have and still let one taste the espresso. My latte was 8 ounces and was great, the barista was cheerful, and the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie was perfect. Stick In The Mud is a little hard to find, turn north off of Sooke Road onto Otter Point Road, then almost immediately left on Eustace, it's around the back side of the building. It is wonderful how the network of quality coffee is spreading throughout Vancouver Island! read the CoffeeCrew Review of Stick in the Mud here: http://coffee.bc.ca/cafeculture/219/cafe-review-stick-in-the-mud

Yelp
Amazing place - great people that love coffee and a nice space, and by far the best coffee I've had on Vancouver Island so far! Had a lot of fun talking with the staff / owner - awesome to see a local (for me) Verve mug dangling from the ceiling. :) One of those shops you feel confident ordering a cappuccino from - no asking what size or wet/dry, just a good proper capp with microfoam expertly pulled.

Shaun W.

Yelp
A family atmosphere, home roasted beans, and coffee served in a mug. Needless to say, I felt at home, and comfortable among other friendly people of Sooke enjoying wonderful caffeine beverages. My latte was delicious, an artful design in my foamy top was a delightful touch. The friendly staff and equally accepting patrons made this experience a memorable one. Great area for children to occupy themselves while the adults are quite able to sit relaxed and enjoy a coffee the way it should be enjoyed...slowly, and savored. I look forward to my next visit.

Yelp
There is Nothing better than finding someone who knows about coffee, and opens up a shop in a small town to serve the needs of people who care. Owner David Evans has a gem of a place in Sooke, It is a must if you find yourself here. This is a cozy place tucked away around a mini mall, which has been in Sooke for more than 30 years. As I made my way to the store I was greeted by the smell of freshly roasted beans, That's right David roasts right here in the back of the shop. It's a warm and inviting place with lots of great things to eat or indulge. I know a thing or two about coffee, and so does David. So let me just say you will not be disappointed ! This is a place where you can sip an Espresso, enjoy the rich Crema, and know that it's fresh, perfectly roasted, and extracted with precision. The staff are friendly and know there stuff, this is a 5 star, it does not get any better than this. You have a smart phone using GPS and Yelp should make this easy to find, if not just ask anyone on the street..or if your lucky, follow your nose ! Just go..you will not regret it !

Yelp
After hearing such great things from a resident of the area, I just had to stop by the coffee shop on my way out of Sooke after spending the long weekend and Im glad I did. It certainly made my drive to Chemainus alot more enjoyable. We got a regular mocha with extra whip, two apple cheddar muffins and a slice of Chocolate Zuchini loaf. Everything was amazing. The mocha was definitely one of the best if not the best that I've had. The cashier was extremely pleasant and we enjoyed a fun chat with another customer while waiting in line to collect our goodies, definitely wish there was one of these in Vancouver.

Jacinthe G.

Yelp
Great place for coffee but I think they are trying to cut corners with their drip coffee! My coffee this morning was watery and when I approached the counter to let them know they were quite defensive about how they always make the coffee the same way. She never checked my coffee or the pot that still had coffee in it. Mistakes do happen but I left with my weak coffee. Off to Shirley Delicious for a real cup of coffee! :-). Hoping that they realize their mistake and that I can again return to the Stick for the great coffee I always had in the past.

Jen P.

Yelp
The best place to grab a coffee in Sooke! Great atmosphere, amazing staff, and great coffee! (Not to mention, some vegan friendly treats!)

Jon S.

Yelp
Above of all, the quality of coffee is the most important and The Stick roasts its own beans and they do it well. The Vosino--An americano by another name is a clever take on the postal code, V0S 1N0--was enjoyed many times, as well as lattés that were tasty. The eclectic staff were all genuinely friendly which made the experience that much better. Be sure to stop here when you visit Sooke.

Kathie H.

Yelp
Having read the wonderful reviews of this place during a short stay in Sooke I had to try it. I agree with every compliment that every writer has paid. This is a sweet little hidden gem run by knowledgeable and passionate young people with a love of coffee who roast their own beans "almost every day." The wonderful barista made me a perfect cappuccino with a lovely heart design in the foam. I loved sitting to drink it in the small cafe area looking at all the funny details on the indoor mural depicting their cafe, staff, and assorted pets and babies. Sooke is a very special place where the people exude a spirit that arises from the beauty of the nature surrounding them and this little coffee shop is very much of that spirit. Don't miss it if you go to Sooke!

Ken S.

Yelp
Some of the best coffee in the Victoria area, by far the best in Sooke.

Branden H.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Amazing coffee and I mean that amazing, best I have ever had. Perfect pick me up on our drive to port Renfrew and an even better pick me up on the way home. If only I could pick this place up and move it to the mainland.

Aand A.

Yelp
great coffee. extremely friendly and knowledgable staff/owner. love how they are doing direct fair trade for beans. a must in sooke.
