What a treasure to have locally in the Conejo Valley! Dear Hubby and I have visited many times over the years, slowing down during the COVID pandemic, although with probably 90% of their tables being outside, they probably handled the most restrictive times with relative ease.
Last night the weather was superb long after dark; the kind of early fall coastal-adjacent California evening to enjoy sitting outside with friends. We soaked up the atmosphere, enjoyed our food and beverage choices, and savored the time together.
They are all decked out with all manner of autumn décor; heavy on the pumpkins, of course. They're also prepped for a big Oktoberfest celebration, to be held the second weekend of October. In addition to all the existing outdoor areas, they have also expanded into a large courtyard area between the main Stonehaus building and the spa complex to the north. Picnic tables and cheery banners are setting the scene for an extended spot to enjoy a German harvest / beerfest.
The menu remains varied, with everything from snacks to support beer or wine tasting, to heartier options. Charcuterie boards, wood-fired pizza prepared freshly onsite, salad, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, and many more options can make it hard to decide. Baked goods in the cases near the ordering counter offer sweet temptations, too.
What I also love are the coffee bar options for those that aren't into alcohol. A little something for everyone on the taste front, married with an amazing atmosphere that feels like a free trip to wine country.
This is not full service for the food. We ordered and paid at the cashier counter, then waited for our name to be called for our beverages. For the food, we received a pager, which went off to call us back to the pick-up area. Condiments, napkins, and serving ware are available to make sure you have everything you need. You find your own table, and at 6:00 on a Thursday evening we readily found a free table, though the place was already quite full.
I enjoyed my tri tip sandwich - every bite was flavorful, with tender slices of meat on a substantial bun. One of our friends ordered the same and was hoping for au jus to go with the sandwich. Instead, a light horseradish sauce came as accompaniment. I also like au jus, yet was happy with the horsey sauce.
After we finished eating and visiting, I suggested we stroll over to the large fountain at the corner of the property near the corner of Agoura Road and Lakeview Canyon. Our friends didn't realize that spot existed on the grounds. They were also surprised at how established the grapevines have become. It's a full on vineyard now after many years of growth. It all adds to the gorgeous atmosphere at The Stonehaus.
