When you book a room at The Strand, you're not just getting a room; you're immersing yourself in its long and fascinating history. Since my first visit to Myanmar in 2003, I have dreamed of staying at The Strand. After the hotel underwent extensive renovations in 2016, I wanted to stay there more than ever. This year, my wife and I finally had the opportunity to stay here, especially since there were some affordable offers. The hotel is pure luxury. It exudes the history of Aviet and Tigran Sarkies, the Armenian brothers who built it at the beginning of the 20th century (the Armenians' contributions to many cultures worldwiede is a story in itself) as well as the history of George Orwell, who once stayed here, and the many leading Burmese minds who came and went. |Each room is a suite with an upholstered sitting area and comes with a huge bathroom with historic tiles and fixtures. Delicious, freshly baked sweets were brought to our room every day free of charge. The heated pool, which is open also during the rainy season, offers pure relaxation. The architecture and historic furnishings are stunning. |But the best thing is the hotel staff. You can tell that none of them view their work as just a "job," but rather a calling. They are friendly, discreetly helpful, and professional, and they always smile. I could mention many of them, but I would like to name just two who helped us tremendously: the receptionist Ms. Thae Thae Khoon and the butler Mr. Hnin Ye' Hla. Thank you for making our stay unforgettable!
