10 Best Museums in Bangkok

"Suan Pakkad Palace is a group of eight small, traditional teak Thai houses built centuries ago in Chiang Mai and transported to a lush tropical garden in Bangkok. The palace is the former private residence of a royal family who converted the buildings and their vast treasures into a museum in the early 1950s. Today, they house antiquities from different centuries, including ancient artifacts from all over Asia, instruments, furniture, everyday household items, paintings, and an ornate throne." - Katie Lockhart

Amazing place to learn about archaeological finds in Thailand and their epics. You can easily spend 1 to 2 hours here. Lots of scenic views. Place is kind of hot, there are some air-conditioned exhibitions but it is mostly open air. It's a good thing that they provide you with a hand fan. Not many people visit here so you will have the whole area to yourself. I spotted less than 20 visitors overall.

I got there on weekdays in the morning. No other tourist than us both. It was a guided tour. My tour guide was like my elementary teacher 😄. After this place we went to jim thompson house. Its quite near. Its worth our time. But once is enough. The garden was beautiful. The houses also interesting. Some of them were very ancient. Architectural attraction for me. But nothing else. There were some antique collection also in there.

A Prince and his consort's residence: in case you are looking for some quiet moments in this hectic part of town, this is the place. The buildings house a museum with many valuable artefacts of ancient Siam, a number of rooms showing the presents made to them personally, their living-room, bedroom etc. Today a lady will show you this place and tell you in English about its inhabitants and its history. Before you were allowed to discover it on your own. Enjoy its quietness and atmosphere. You cannot take any photos inside. Before you could. Outside your selfies will reflect the mystical atmosphere of the Cabbage Museum - built in a former cabbage field. The entrance fee is 100 Baht. You need not book your visit. We went there on a weekday and we were the only visitors.

Off the beaten tourist path but very nice. A collection of 8 vintage Thai houses now turned into a quaint museum. Gives you a real feel for architecture. Not crowded which is part of the charm.

Was a cool experience spending time on this wonderful museum. We went as a group and we all had a great time walking around the grounds of this palace. The teak houses are GORGEOUS .. this is so peaceful and takes you back in time! Highly recommended to go here and spend a nice quiet time. You only need an hour to look around the houses and the garden. You could maybe stretch this to two hours if you stopped to read all the exhibit notes. Unfortunately photos are not allowed inside the buildings. You have to take your shoes off every time you go inside, so wear something easy to slip-off and on. Nowhere to buy food on-site, but there was a conveniance store a few minutes away.

🍯 If you have been to the Bangkok National Museum, visiting this museum may be a bit disappointing. In the first hall of the museum, there are very valuable clay jars and pots that were unearthed during archaeological excavations in Ban Chiang, which is located in northeastern Thailand. There are beautiful patterns on these pots. This hall, which contains many antique historical artifacts, is very interesting, but you are not allowed to take photos inside. 🏠 Afterwards, you can visit the two-storey wooden houses built in accordance with traditional Thai architecture in the garden. Various items are exhibited on both floors of these houses. It is very good that some of the houses have air conditioning on the ground floor. 🥁 I really liked the house where musical instruments are exhibited on the ground floor. In another house, information is given about the Ramakien, the Thai version of the Ramayana, but unfortunately the device that animates a war here does not work. I think that the museum needs a general renovation. The museum can be made more interesting with some simple changes. For example, some of the writings under the exhibited items are very difficult to read. Despite some of its shortcomings, I like the museum in general.

My wife calls me a Thai history nerd and it’s a title I wear with pride. I have visited many temples and museums over the last couple of decades however, somehow, this one has never popped up on my Rattanakosin-centric focus. For me the centerpiece of the exhibit was the Lacquer Pavilion that is a fine example of art and architecture from an earlier age. That said, I was unprepared for the sheer volume and quality of works of art contained in the various traditional Thai houses surrounding the garden. My 4 and 8 year old kids were enthralled by the musical instrument exhibit, as well as, the small but comprehensive selection of historical weapons. For the 2 hours we were visiting, I don’t think we saw any other patrons and I gather we were lucky enough to visit on an off-peak day. This place is an absolute must see for anyone visiting Bangkok who has even a passing interest in the art, culture, history, or society of Thailand.
