I’m still dreaming of the long weekend I spent at The Summer House last July.
If you’re like me and had only experienced Nantucket through Elin Hilderbrand books, your expectations will absolutely be both met and exceeded. From the moment you arrive, the property is incredibly charming with a green lawn, purple hydrangeas, and cottages tucked beneath mature trees. And our cottage (we stayed in Sloop), was even better than I had imagined. It felt authentically New England with a white pitched ceiling and antique art, but it also felt comfortable and well-maintained, like it’s been updated in all the right ways.
One of the most special aspects of this property, though, has to be The Summer House Restaurant. On any given evening, you’ll find a small crowd singing around the piano late into the night. It has a sense of rare, local charm—like, if you know you know. We also loved Sunday brunch (get the lobster benedict). Everything is high quality and thoughtfully prepared.
Nantucket has become one of my very favorite travel destinations because of The Summer House. I’m already counting down the days till I can return. If you’re on the fence, don’t be—this place is the one!
