The Surf House Byron Bay

The surf house is easily the best hostel I’ve stayed at ever! The reception staff are extremely friendly and helpful, it is very well managed and the vibe is elite!! Whether you’re there for chilling out or meeting new people over drinks, you will definitely have a great time.. the bar staff are so good at creating an enjoyable atmosphere! Big Shout outs to bar staff Alex, Chris, Chantal and Jess for being awesome! Will definitely come back again 🤙

I absolutely loved my stay here and if you're coming to Byron I would highly recommend booking a space at The Surf House! The location is perfect (a short walk from the bus station and down the road from the beach!). The ladies on the front desk were lovely and so helpful with any query/request I had. The hostel itself is bright, clean, inviting, relaxing, spacious and has all the amenities you need. I especially loved the indoor and outdoor bar area which allowed for some enjoyable, social times. Made for the best stay in Byron!

We stayed in a private double room with an en-suite bathroom for two nights. Honestly, we didn’t have high expectations since it was a hostel, but it turned out to be amazing! The room had a huge balcony, a comfortable bed, and a decent shower. There was also a small wardrobe for clothes and a TV. The kitchen is massive—not the cleanest, but considering there’s always someone cooking or doing something, it’s understandable. We only used the hot water dispenser, so cleanliness didn’t bother us much. The activities they offer are fantastic! There’s a rooftop bar where you can grab a drink and even enjoy pizza for just $12. Upon check-in, they give you a free drink voucher, which was a nice touch. They also lend out surfboards and beach towels, which was super handy. There’s a luggage storage area for those who don’t have a room but need a place to keep their belongings for the day. Even after checking out, you can still use the amenities like showers, surfboards, towels, and the rooftop. In our case, we checked out at 10 AM, spent the day at the beach, and came back to use the shared showers before leaving. The bathrooms were very clean and well-maintained. Location: Just one block from Main Beach and the town center—perfect!

The Surf House has offered me a home away from my own in this gorgeous little coastal town. Surf House is definitely more on the luxurious side of hosteling without the hefty prices! I would highly recommend staying at this little gem if you’re considering coming to Byron as a solo female traveller like myself - or as any traveller in general. I can’t wait to come back home to you Surf House - so much love!

So it is clean and you wont hate your stay at all. BUT, i paid 77$ and no towel no soap in showers. Yha byron have a pool and they give you a towel plus soap in showers. Similar atmosphere and cleanliness. Location is very very good tho.

The location and service is good (except for not being able to even make tea or get filtered water after 10 pm), but cleanliness is a problem here. From the moment I entered the room had a weird AC smell and I wanted to open the window, which has a mosquito net. However the window was so dusty that it would mean letting all the dust in. The same thing for the corners, the sheets, the clogged bathroom sink - anywhere that you do not immediately see was left dirty. I stayed in a small single room facing the town and it was noisy at night. I am assuming the positive reviews are due to the usually low expectations from a hostel. Go elsewhere especially if you are looking for a single room stay.

Location is fantastic. Free surfboard. The whole hostel is not really clean. Be aware to stay with bunch teenagers. Female staffs were friendly and professional. Except a long hair male staff busy talk with 15-16 British girls and keep other customers waiting.

The best hostel I’ve ever stayed at!!! Staff were super friendly and went above and beyond. Check in is at 2pm but they managed to check us in early after getting off an overnight bus which was super appreciated. Lots of outdoor terraces throughout the building. They provided clean towels everyday, mini toiletries, loads of sun cream available at reception and beach towels are available to use from reception. Perfectly located in the heart of Byron Bay and only 5 mins from the beach. Lots of great food sports near. I recommend the $12 hostel pizza it’s fantastic but the kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need. Walkable from the Greyhound bus stop about 10mins, great food stops everywhere no transport was needed at anytime during our stay. Definitely check out the history of the building, at one point was the only building on the street!! The free surf board rental is amazing definitely give it a go. The yoga was very enjoyable and different things on every morning and evening. Would 100% stay here again.
