Hamptons Openings for Summer 2022? The Restaurants, Hotels, and Stores to Know | Vogue

"Best known for sunset concerts yet long an East End art hub, the venue’s “Summer of Love” series spotlights Heart Evangelista, Tarsila Schubert, and Danielle Orchard across June, July, and August, with Brooke Wise curating a buzzy Labor Day show; for the concerts, expect headliners like Bob Moses, Macy Gray, and Suki Waterhouse." - Elise Taylor

Yelp
I know everyone says to go to The Surf Lodge if you are in the Hamptons and honestly I get it. Beautiful view, great spot to see the sunset, and great food and music. I would say the portions are smaller and since they are business, food and drinks may take a while. But cute spot with friends or on a date, and totally a staple place to go to in the Hamptons!

Yelp
I didn't expect too much when I booked a dinner reservation here based on the other reviews I've read but I didn't expect to be treated poorly. Liam was very rude and pushed me when I was trying to reenter after stepping out. We made reservations and I asked the hostess for a table inside because it was a bit chilly outside and it had been raining. She told us to head inside to the bar and she would get us seated. We waited for about 10-15 minutes and when we received our text that the table was ready she led us to a table outside. When I asked about why we didn't have an inside table like we requested she said that someone started ordering bottle service so basically we got booted outside. It was misting outside and cold and there were quite a bit of bugs outside. A bug landed in my friends drink and the waiter gave her a hard time about replacing it. The lobster pasta was light and actually pretty good. The spicy margarita was good but I'm not 100% sure there was actually alcohol in it lol. We went inside to the party afterwards and that was a pretty fun time

Yelp
Super on the fence about this place. When we first arrived they wanted us to wait over an hout because they claimed it was open at 4, but someone eventually just let us in earlier and there were so many people inside lounging drinking and having a good time so I honestly dont know what that was about However The place os super cute and vibey and only got better the later it got. Definitely somewhere you can chill out with drinks and music while enjoying the great water views. The drinks were also 5/5 our bartender def knew what he was doing and the servers were nice too. Other than that the security team/host needs a talking to.

Yelp
Honestly a bit surprised how bad the reviews are. Even though the food is definitely a bit overpriced and the cocktails are subpar (and also overpriced), I was pretty impressed by the food. I came in with low expectations though, so I was definitely surprised. Service was also very fast and efficient, making the dining experience very smooth. For apps - Zucchini fritters (2.5/5): these are a pass honestly. They were definitely not too deeply fried but no extreme wow factor, could have had more flavor -Baby gem salad (5/5): this salad was so good!! The ranch sauce was lighter and made the salad more refreshing -Yellowfin tuna (3/5): OK. Can't go wrong with tuna, but not the best quality tuna I have had -Montauk fluke (2/5): least favorite app, not impressive really and a bit more firm in texture For mains: -Sea bass (4/5): this was really good. The fish was fried making the skin extra crispy, and came with refreshing sides to complement the fried fish... can also make lettuce wraps -Lobster cascatelli (4.5/5): this was pretty solid. The lobster was fresh (there could have been a bit more though), the cherry tomatoes were delicious, and the pasta was cooked well and coated in a not too heavy sauce, which made it really delicious and lighter than other pasta -Striped bass (3.5/5): not my favorite fish, but just personal preference Overall, pretty solid food

Yelp
I don't normally write reviews, but the steak frites here was the worst steak I've ever had in my life. It was $60, and the meat was so awful I couldn't finish it. Absurd entitled place. Maybe fun if you're in the party section and wanna burn some cash and party, but dining was among the worst food I've ever had.

Yelp
My girls made reservations for my bachelorette weekend for dinner a while ago. Confirmed the reservation and everything. We get there to find out that they only had outside seating because they have a large party of 50 that is for inside. We asked if they have outside warmers and they offered blankets. We were willing to see how it goes because it was extremely windy and cold out. Then to find out they only had two blankets which were then anyways. We left and took our business elsewhere , which was better. I only gave two stars because the girl who was helping us was very sweet and she was trying her best to remedy the situation. Because she knew that when the reservation was confirmed multiple times, they shouldve mentioned the change in outdoor seating, especially when the weather wasn't great.

Yelp
Security made my friend cry!!! Hate them forever, extremely rude and unhelpful and we won't be back

Yelp
I came here for dinner. Got here a little early. I waited online to get into the bar in the meantime. Guy with a cross tattoo behind is ear immediately cut me off .. I couldn't ask a question and then he said "it's not my job to be nice , I'm not in the hospitality business. This is a hotel". He was NASTY. Not just to us but to anyone that dared speak to him. He should not work here. Then 10 mins later after ubering here we get a text that our reservation was cancelled bc of rain which we get. But they didn't offer to accommodate us indoors. This place is a joke .

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday for brunch with 3 of my girlfriends. The food was mediocre and what you'd expect from a "party venue". The banana bread was the best part of the meal. We had reservations for brunch and assumed we could hang around the bar until the DJ started playing. Unfortunately, they cleared the premises around 4pm to prepare for the party and we were told we could only stay if we paid a $324 cover charge (per person) for GA. I wish we'd known that we would have to end our brunch early and had to pay to stay so that we could've planned our Saturday a little better. I get why people come here to party but I think there are better places to spend your $$$.

Yelp
I used to adore this place. I'm not sure where things got off track but what was once a great dive has turned into a Jersey Shore club.

Yelp
Food was spectacular, but the service was terrible. The staff at every turn was so nasty. I walked up for my dinner reservation and was met with an attitude by the hostess. Then, our waiter (also with an attitude) put in the wrong food/drink THREE times and it was brought out. Instead of making up for his mistake he tells us that the items would be put on our tab. Things we didn't order?! We sent them back. Never in my life have i been met with such terrible service. Awful dining experience.

Yelp
Ohh the legendary Surf Lodge. I just hopped off a plane and made it to Montauk when my friends took me to dinner here with zero warning of what I was getting into. Here's what you should know: 1. Make a reservation if you can. Otherwise, it can be harder to get a table. 2. Crispy tuna rice is delicious. The rest of the food is okay... typical things you would find over the summer in the Hamptons and at that higher price point. 3. Be prepared to pay up... you're paying for the vibes 4. Music and party game can be wild... but the crowd can be younger depending on the day so check the set list before you head over. 5. Staff is nice overall.

Yelp
This place can rot in hell. Tried to go with my girlfriend for one of their performers. Arrived promptly at the time they posted on their Instagram and the bouncer basically told us to come back when it's busier. We asked what time and he loudly said "NOT NOW!". Entitled staff and virtually impossible to get in unless you're an "influencer". I suppose you could drop 6K for a table with 3 of your friends, but I don't really care to do this just to post an Instagram to try and brag to random people. For the rich and famous or those who want to show off how "cool" they are on social media. Screw this place
google avatar

Jack N.

Yelp
This is not the place for an intimate dinner. It has a bar/party atmosphere you would find in Fort Lauderdale, don't expect to hear anyone talk unless you're screaming across the table. It was just all-around an interesting experience. Also, imagine paying a premium price to be seated at a picnic table and share it with another party--just nuts. The atmosphere: was a party. You can't hear yourself think. The staff: was relatively friendly and tried to be helpful, but they couldn't hear anything. The food: average at a high mark up. Cleanliness: the table was fine; I don't know about the deck bar, though.

Sofia P.

Yelp
Extremely overhyped, bad service and honestly cheugy. Also... it is on a mini swamp and nowhere near the ocean
google avatar

Darian B.

Yelp
It's a decent place to go out with a group of friends, but I don't really get the hype - definitely better places to go. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and every time I went to use the bathroom there was a new person throwing up....they are not cleaned throughout the night and are really nasty. On a side note, I would not recommend eating here - they took a 9:30pm reservation and then messed up the food order and instead of fixing the issue, they just said the kitchen was closed and some people didn't get food at all.

Caroline S.

Yelp
The man with long curly hair sucks!! No humor, bad vibes. We tried to be nice but he was really awful, wish I could have left a better review.

Ana M.

Yelp
This place..... I was here for a bachelorette and the owner runs around cursing people out and shoving them! We spent $3000 at our table and were told to "pay and get the fuck out." They are majorly violating fire code and it is unsafe in there. Our waitress was a sweetie but besides her everyone who worked there was AWFUL. I actually think the owner was psychologically abusing our waitress. There were literally 3 toilets and a 45 minute wait to use the bathroom. Loud music with shitty DJs and Manhattan Chads and Brads. This place is fun if you're 20 and on bath salts. Otherwise it is brutal. Such a joke of a place to spend your money on. The food was below average and the service was abysmal.

Olivia F.

Yelp
I fear this was the worst meal I've had in montauk - got the chicken skewers and for $40, I think we could afford a dash of salt and some seasoning. The hostess was rude and not accommodating, but our waitress was nice. Would potentially come back for a drink and sunset but would never eat here again
google avatar

Yelp
This is a pretty good bar and a pretty bad restaurant. It's incredible how every item isn't good. How do you mess up a lobster roll? You do it with soggy bread, random pieces of let us and what tastes like old lobster. The halibut seemed to be the best item of the 6 or so entres our table got. Getting in is a disaster too. The bar / club scene is fun once you move past eating and into drinking.

Yelp
TLDR: we were ignored several times despite waving and making eye contact; food is expensive and we left partially hungry. We only came here because the first four restaurants we called were full to capacity for the night. When we arrived around 8:55 PM or so for the 9 PM reservation. We were told the host will be with us shortly. One member of my party attempted to get a host's attention after waiting for a bit- he was ignored. Five minutes later, another host told us that they'll be with us. We overheard a host telling a table that the kitchen will be closing at 10. So we expressed our worry of the kitchen closing and was told, "if I said I'll be with you then I'll be with you"- addressing nothing about the kitchen closing. We got seated another five to eight minutes later. After our drinks we tried ordering food but was ignored despite making eye contact and they even walked past our table. Finally ordered food at 9:35 with the hostess who took our drinks order. Food ($38 halibut) was barely filling the plate and drinks ($17) same thing. In my pic, several sips were taken before I took the picture. The water smells like it has a bit too much like chlorine- not sure if we're just used to Nyc water. The lady who helped us with our drinks and took our order was nice and professional. Experience was ruined at the front. The prices are nearly twice as much as Manhattan but service definitely has room for improvement- as much room as the fish that I ordered had on the plate. On hindsight we definitely had an ok night compared to the other reviews that we should've read before making a reservation. Problem with Montauk is that if you don't rsvp ahead of time- you miss out on the decent restaurants. This place wasn't even anywhere near full to capacity. Not sure why we weren't seated at any of the empty tables. We thought it was due to covid concerns but saw that they seated a couple that were after us at the same table as another couple. ‍

Yelp
This place really sucked. Definitely don't recommend the staff is rude and there are much better places to go in Montauk

Yelp
This place is an absolute joke. It used to be such a good vibe. The food is not good. The service is horrendous. Nobody seems to know what they are doing in every way possible. The night life is something I can go on and on about. If you're trying to just go for a drink and good vibes, don't bother. It's $1500 for a beach table (that doesn't even give you access to the deck "party"). The deck is $3k for a table. The bouncers and the lady at the front when you arrive are the most horrible, rude, entitled people I have ever come across. The owner is a sick joke. Rude, nasty lady. The people there are just as entitled. Classic "daddy's money". I can't believe the staff is getting away with having this attitude. The service. How is this place real. You're running a business. Be nice to every single patron ... simple as that.

Yelp
Okay this place is absolutely INCREDIBLE. I would say there is a reason why it is legendary. I came to the Hamptons for one of my best friends bachelorette party and this was the location of our last hoorah. It could not have been anymore perfect. When we got there we were really surprised because you cannot actually part at the surf lodge and there is no valet. You have to part at the train station that is right down the street and walk over. We didn't have a problem doing that but we definitely wondered if it was safe. Once we made it there we walked up to the ropes and got our ID checked we had already reserved a table. When we got there it was around 5:30 and it was the perfect time to arrive. The place was not too crowded and we got to our table right away. The waitress mentioned that we had the best seat in the house. We were seated to the right of the stage if you are looking at it. We didn't know what to expect so we ordered a 6L bottle of Rose and go the party started. Before we knew it, there were security guards by the stage and Wyclef got on stage. Let me tell you, what a party. There was something magical about being tipsy watching the sun go down with your best friends listening to live music. If you are in the Hamptons don't miss out and experience for yourself.
google avatar

Sydney B.

Yelp
this is the most disgusting and poorly managed establishment in the world. I absolutely love going out in the Hamptons, but whenever I go here, I have a terrible time the owner is literally the worst person I have ever met girl girl she shoved me and pushed me and took me away from my table when I had a reservation and was a paying customer. This has to be the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I would recommend no one come here. The waiter. Ryan was amazing, and was the only light of my entire night.
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
Great drink spot but not good for your stomach. The service and management is an A+. The kitchen is an F. The management and waitresses are fantastic. The only reason to come to this spot is for the drinks and sunset. A+ for sunsets and drinks on the beach
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
food was so overpriced, the crowd is just what you would expect.. a mix of younger 20-30s and then older adults partying like they're in college still. restaurant waitstaff was nice, security was friendly. bartender in the inside bar was definitely rude. absolutely make a reservation in advance or you are not getting in and they will make you look and feel stupid. crowd things out after 9 on sunday. i would never stay at this hotel for the price id you're looking for anything relaxing. good sunsets from the deck though.
google avatar

Jeremy W.

Yelp
Not bad but not great. Nice ambiance and at night I'm sure it's kicking but for lunch it's a yawn. The service was slow, and it took 10 minutes to get 2 canned beers to the table. No prompt water refills and some gnarly inedible fries didn't help. I am sure that in Montauk there are other options to better maximize your clams.

Yelp
Suck it Surf Lodge...this was said in many online reviews and seemed to be a theme and very appropriate here too. We arrived at the Surf Lodge for cocktails and a early dinner and were told to park 1/4 of mile down the road at the train station and walk along the highway back to the property. Since this place was recommend by several travel blogs, we thought it would be worth the trouble. WERE WE WRONG!!! We should have taken it as a sign of how our experience was going to be when upon entering the lobby we encountered a dark haired woman walking by saying in a frustrated tone "this F*#@ing place is so unorganized!" Checking in with the hostess we were told "you can sit anywhere on the patio that does not have a reserved sign". So we stopped by the bar ordered drinks, opened a tab and made our way to a table without a wooden "reserved" sign on it. While sitting there for almost 2 hours, not one wait staff checked on us to offer food or drinks. We had to go to the bar ourselves to order any drinks. Eventually we were approached by the dark haired woman who informed us she was taking our table because she had someone there that needed it. When we questioned why we had to give our table up since it was not reserved she told us and I quote "this is my place, if you are unhappy about it you can leave". The group sitting next to us heard her and offered for us to slide over and sit with them. The women then leaned into my friend and said "I won't have security escort you out, but you are leaving". What?! Why?! This seemed very aggressive considering the "we" I refer to is my friend and I who are two females, between the ages of 40-50, business owners ourselves and deal with the public and customer service daily. We were not acting like pretentious, unreasonable or over served rude patrons they may deal with from time to time. Of course we left quietly because we are not the type of people who deserve the treatment we received. Ironically, while walking back to our car we were questioned by several ppl who were annoyed by the parking situation. Asking if the 1/4 mile walk along the highway was worth it. Ha! The sad part is the place is cute, good people watching and great music however, the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant. For a business owner to think it is acceptable to speak to a patron in the manner as she did is a disgrace. Once we got settled for dinner somewhere else we started to read reviews for the Surf Lodge and realized so many others have been treated poorly. My advice, spare yourself the grief and go somewhere like Navy Beach where they provide actual service, valet and appreciate your business. This place is no asset to the community of Montauk and not a good representation of the experiences we have had throughout the week while visiting.
google avatar

Greg A.

Yelp
I was waiting in line with a few friends and the security gentleman said we could not get in without getting a table. Again letting in 50 people ahead of my group to the bar area, again the gentleman refused to let me or my friends in without paying thousands of dollars for a table. There were plenty of people in the bar area getting drinks. He was judging me and my group, and let other people in, without letting my group in. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. The gentleman was short and covered with tattoos. I would think being in customer service he would have learned how to interact appropriately with customers. This establishment really needs help with their cultural competencies.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
I don't recommendation The Surf Lodge for the following reasons: Very expensive for a "motel-style" accommodations - they charged $1000/night! It's not on the ocean but on Montauk Lake. They did not provide ample towels, no wash cloths. Lights were out in the bathroom. They did provide beach towels however no beach chairs or umbrellas which we ended up purchasing. The TV was Roku - you couldn't get regular channels. There were no plastic cups in the bathroom to use. They did provide a simple continental breakfast, but it was the same everyday. The place is a hot scene on the weekends for a young crowd, so parking was limited - we had to remind staff to save us a parking spot. When we called to inform them on all these things, they didn't offer a partial refund or a "free night". We won't be back to the Surf Lodge.
google avatar

Anoush Y.

Yelp
No one informed us what time the kitchen closes, our order was taken down wrong (food and drinks), we were very rushed, I asked the hostess for a candle as we were celebrating our friends birthday and she rudely answered they don't have candles and"you can try the market in town". We were then kicked out by security so they could set up for the concert. We waited on line for 2 hours only to be told at that point they will not let in patrons for GA. Really disappointed about this experience. We have been supporting Surf Lodge/Snow Lodge for years now but this left a terrible taste in our mouth and we will certainly reconsider going back.

Kendall W.

Yelp
Don't go here. They'll let you buy drinks and as soon as you swipe your card they kick you out onto the street with no warning. Worst experience I've ever had in Montauk and I've lived here since I was 3.
google avatar

Sidney H.

Yelp
I feel like you have to know what you're getting yourself into when you come here. The vibe also drastically differs between day and night and Fridays/Saturdays and Sundays. The atmosphere is very boujie beach club. I came for brunch with a huge group for a birthday, i'm talking like 18 people and was worried about being treated horrible since I'm an avid Yelp review reader. We luckily had two reservations and the host was nice enough to seat us at two tables next to each other. Our waitress was THE SHIT. She was very attentive, very cool and very nice. The drinks were expensive but not HORRIBLE. We split a bunch of the swan drinks, we especially liked the casa verde one and then got a ton of food. I got the lobster roll which was very aesthetically pleasing, not the best lobster roll i've ever had but definitely a good one (prob not worth $32) and the ricotta toast which I actually didn't love. I think the flavors were just too much of a mix of cheesy, fruity and fresh (ricotta + black berries + fresh mint leaves), but my friend really liked it so if you're cool with that combo it's still a great choice. We sat at our tables for like 2+ hours and no one ever rushed us to leave which I commend them for, even though more and more people started to show up. After brunch, we moved over to the beach area where we snagged two couch things and just continued to order drinks and chill which was A++++ and a live band started to play as well. All around an amazing day. I think if you're looking to not spend a lot of money, to be low-key, to avoid crowds or to eat 5 star food, don't come here but if you want to day-drink, possibly see a celeb or two and listen to live music, this is your spot! I'm honestly surprised all the reviews are SO SO terrible, I feel like they must have revamped or something

Yelp
It was my first time visiting Montauk and I had a great time here. I walked in here without a reservation and they were very accommodating in seating us on a Wednesday evening. The Octopus appetizer was disappointing. The truffle mac and cheese was very flavorful, absolutely recommend getting this. The linguine pasta was worth ordering as well. The Seaside High cocktail was very well balanced and refreshing. My friends and I had a great time but was surprised that the server did not course out our meal.

Beri M.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service. They sat us for brunch, gave us menus, took 20 mins to come back, and then told us the kitchen was closed. Avoid at all costs.

Jess G.

Yelp
Do NOT go to this rip off of a place. We had a group of 14 people so we had a 2 course price fixe menu served "family" style that we paid $150 each for. They barely gave us enough food for half the people at the table. Appetizer was 12 pieces of bread with butter and 3 pieces of burrata to split between 14. Main course was 3 small plates of pasta and a few steaks (the steak was probably the only thing they gave us enough of). We asked for another dish of pasta since each of us got only about 7 noodles and we were charged for the extra plate. Additionally, we stayed in the hamptons so we had about a 30 min ride out to montauk and my 32 year old husband asked to use the bathroom while we waited for our reservation. The response from the asshole in the front was "didn't your mother teach you to use the bathroom before you leave the house?"

Yelp
Surf Lodge... Vibe 10/10 Location 10/10 Food 7/10 (fried artichoke tuna poke and grilled sea bass is the best) Service 2/10 . . Most important thing to note was the heinous service at this restaurant. We were waiting for our reservation outside at the awesome outdoor couch spot and it started to rain. Tried to come inside 15 min before reservation, but all doors were immediately locked and all doormen did not let us in. When we checked back in with the blonde at the outside front desk, she was extremely unprofessional and honestly a b-i-t-c-h; telling us we needed to wait outside (in the rain) for the 15 minutes until our reservation. Told us it was a capacity issue but then saw her let in a group with a $5K bar tab in immediately after us. Food was fine, but the employees were so entitled, it ruins the whole vibe. Super strange to have employees be assholes, but because of that, overall 5/10. Suck it surf lodge ! Ps your vegan pad Thai tastes like shit and isn't actually paid thai. You should change the name to cold peanut noodles/take it off your menu

MJ S.

Yelp
Great ambiance but it stops there. The food is subpar more like diner food and a high price. Drinks are definitely watered down and the staff omg all of them have attitude problems and If you complain or ask too many questions, forget it about, the nastyness comes out . So entitled from the owner to the staff !!! Terrible !!
google avatar

Catherine F.

Yelp
Amazing ambience but food is so over priced. very average menu. chef does a great job but nothing to ride home about.

Maddy R.

Yelp
Charged me $300 for missing a reservation the night after we ate there and got food poisoning ( most likely from there)! Not willing to talk on the phone/ cannot talk to a human. Food was mediocre and ambiance/ service was fine. For spending $600 on dinner and drinks for 4 and then the slap in the face of no understanding I will not recommend or ever go again! Head to si si in east Hampton instead of this place full of jerks!

Erica P.

Yelp
I got food poisoning after eating the $34 fish they served me. There food has went downhill to the point it physically made me sick.

Angela C.

Yelp
Group of 3: We arrive, get out of the Uber, told to stand to the side so we do as we're told, (sober mind you for all of this), there for 2 mins and the lovely GM, Jayma, comes out screaming, calling us a**holes because she got a ticket. I respond we just got here and were told to stand here, she goes again "you a**holes just got me a ticket A**hole's like you, go home" ....literally dumbfounded as we just arrived. Paying customers who are there to put money in YOUR pocket are assholes? Listen I get the frustration for ticket, but this woman needs therapy. If she said it to wrong person she most certainly would've gotten whacked..rightfully so. Walking out I wished the employees good luck with her as a coworker and they literally called her a monster. Anywho...great views!

Yelp
Beautiful retro venue with very good music programming. Perfect for a summer afternoon party

Yelp
This reservation is for the restaurant and the restaurant only. The food here is incredible. I started by taking pictures and then got so consumed with how great the food and vibes were and forgot to take additional ones. We had the watermelon salad, tuna crudo, steak, and the broccolini. The staff are incredible inattentive, but what else would you expect from a "trendy" spot in Montauk. They messed up our drinks multiple times (we ordered casa migos on the rocks), which resulted in them just giving us multiple replacements. Come for the views and the food, but keep in mind that this is mainly a spot to see and be seen.

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere very fast service for the amount of people they gotten on a Saturday.. a little unorganized outside....but it's all worth it. Highly recommend

Yelp
My MOH got a table for all 11 girls on my bachelorette weekend. We didn't have to wait long to be seated at all! Marc Jacobs had his pop up so we looked around until they walked us to our table. They did make me take off my sash but I didn't care/ wasn't surprised. We got the last dinner reservation possible so we could hang out for a bit after eating the DJ was great. Such good vibes! Food was BOMB. 10/10

Melissa H.

Yelp
Surf lodge has upped their food game! The chicken schnitzel is amongst the best I've ever had. The stuffed squid is also super special. Service was meh, but it makes up for it with ambience and food. Overall, for montauk this place is a gem!

Aristides S.

Yelp
Laura is amazing. Best of all time. She made our experience extra special. 10/10. We love her
