The Swan Wedmore, Wedmore, Somerset, UK - Explore & Book

"When owner Rob Greacen spotted The Swan in the heart of pretty Wedmore, its historic grandeur was sadly faded. Harnessing the talents of a local interior designer and a first-rate architect, he spent a year remoulding and furnishing the imposing white Georgian building to perfection, and it finally opened its doors to drinkers, eaters and sleepers. For those who want a relaxed rural break in the Somerset Levels, it’s a perfect base. Downstairs it's an easygoing haven of wood floors, leather chairs, local ales and an open fire. Upstairs, the quirky rooms are exactly what you'd want: stylish and calming yet unfussy and practical. Walls are painted in soft neutrals or stony grey, and natural fabrics are offset with splashes of colour from cushions or pictures, and intriguing pieces of furniture skilfully foraged from eBay and auction rooms. But the heart of this place is the kitchen, led by Tom Blake from River Cottage. His gutsy country cooking, with its scrupulously sourced ingredients, has really put The Swan on the map. The result is a genuine community hub with a loyal local clientele and lashings of atmosphere - a rare thing indeed. Highs Great West Country food: Tom cures his own hams and bacon, fresh fish is delivered daily from Brixham, ciders and ales are locally produced The gorgeous rooms are more hotel than pub: claw-foot bathtubs, Bramley toiletries and each uniquely decorated Cycling through the flat Somerset Levels, hiking in the Mendip Hills and watching incredible murmurations of starlings: this is a beautifully peaceful part of England Fantastic value. All booked up? Try their nearby sister properties The White Hart Somerton and Timbrells Yard Lows When we last visited we thought some of the rooms were looking a little tired The Medium and Small Rooms have bathtubs only (rather than showers) This is a busy and popular pub, so don’t expect total silence in the rooms; Large and Loft Rooms are the quietest The food is a little pricey, but it's delicious and you're paying for the expertise of a former River Cottage chef On subsequent visits, we have found service to be patchy at times" - Clare Hargreaves

What a shame that something that is easy to rectify let this place down. Nice rooms, great pizza, good location. The rooms are hot and the fans need upgrading to a better product as we struggled to sleep and so did everyone else we spoke to. ||This place really needs to sort its customer service out. We ate twice. Both time had to ask for service, gave up on waiting to be asked for dessert. Breakfast was shockingly bad considering there were only 3 table that all arrived at different times. 2 out of the 6 breakfasts arrived significantly earlier than the others, a wrong order was taken. No actual accountability or apology. No one at either meal attended the table and asked if everything was ok or we needed anything else. ||Staff training is an easy fix

Lovely pub (just went for Sunday lunch, didn't stay). It's got a good vegetarian selection for pub lunches on Sunday, and vegan options too, always a bonus! A bit pricey but that reflects the area 😉 My dining companions all mentioned that there wasn't much veg with the roast but good otherwise! Beautiful sunny day, so we got to sit in the garden - really lovely. Pretty fast service; downside of sitting outside meant we couldn't set up a tab but not a big problem! A nice place to visit for a treat

This is an old pub/coach house so the rooms obviously were quirky and fit in with the vibe of the pub. The staff were exceptional. We were made to feel very welcome by everyone and very much enjoyed our 3 night stay.

Brilliant evening at the swan. Really welcoming to a spontaneous larger group (night before a wedding) drinking and having pizzas in the bar area. Always really friendly and ready to help with any questions about their large range of beers and ales. Food was great and quick from ordering, child friendly too. The car park can be a little busy but there’s a medium sized free car park in the village about a 5 min walk away which is brilliant.

We had room No 1 which was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Everything feels quietly luxurious from the toiletries to the bath towels. The staff are friendly and professional, the breakfast is superb. Homemade muesli and a huge cooked English which filled us up ‘till dinner! A relaxing stay in a lovely place.

I cannot speak about the rooms here but if they’re anything like the food they’ll be 5 stars as well! We sat with the dog in garden, I cannot call it a beer garden as it was far to nice and well kept for such a title! The staff are very polite and friendly and the food, my goodness the food. My partner had the chicken salad and I must say it was the best chicken I’d ever had. Thinking things could get better I bit into my burger and it was, frankly, amazing. I cannot think of a single fault to my dinning experience here and I would recommend The Swan, to anyone.

I found this pub online. It was truly dog friendly, in a lovely village location. The bedroom (which were upgraded to) was beautifully appointed. Radio in the room was a nice touch. We ate dinner and breakfast at the pub, both of which were largely good. Nice staff.

What a completely lovely hotel, welcoming, relaxing and comfortable. The room was so thoughtfully put together, amazingly comfortable bed, bath in the bedroom, such a treat! And gorgeous loo and shower room under the eaves. We woke up to birdsong and a view of the sky (once we'd opened the black out blinds). Delicious food. In particular breakfast was amazing, seeded homemade granola bars, unbelievably good, fruit and yoghurt and smashed avo with pea shoots, all my favourites. Lovely staff. Can't fault any of it.

Yelp
Unfortunately, a very average meal at the hotel-based restaurant. We started our meal with a shared sampler platter, and then I choice the flat-iron chicken for my dinner. The sampler platter appetizer was confusing and missed the mark on all fronts. There was no "theme" to it, and each dish was off in some way like the garlic spread on toast (almost too spicy due to pure garlic). I had the flat-iron chicken as my main and it was okay, but the chicken could have been cooked a little longer (not a big fan of improperly cooked meats) and the presentation left a bit to be desired. Was hoping for a better experience than this, and the others at my table were a bit disappointed as well.

Yelp
Spent two weeks at the Swan. The manager was awesome. Food was decent and the breakfast was really good. I come from steak territory and I was pleasantly surprised with how good their steak was. The rooms were older but very comfortable. I would wholeheartedly recommend The Swan.

Yelp
Been to The Swan a couple of times now, usually impressed but tonight was a bit, off par. The food they serve ranges from the imaginative to the great british classics. Tonight I had a smoked ham & black pudding hash to start, a nice idea, slightly overcooked hash and some bone in one of them - not a great start. Waitress didn't really show much attention to the table and when presenting the wine-list it was just thrown down on the table (not great.) Main course was a beautifully cooked shin of beef with a saffron risstoo - great combo, slightly bland. Lovely bottle of Malbec and a fantastic setting, interior design. I would recommended, just had a bit of bad luck tonight.

Yelp
We were staying at a Cottage near The Swan, so went there on our last evening. Food was delicious (Steaks) and an extra Thanks to the Chef for creating a battered chicken breast for out child who won't eat chicken without breading or similar. He loved it. Wine, coffee and deserts were ver good as well.
