"The blue-roofed contemporary-Victorian hotel opened by Nelson Mandela is in "a great location," connected to the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre. Guest rooms offer water or mountain views, and all have maritime decor. The informal Conservatory serves tapas and has a 6,000-bottle wine cellar. Views of Table Mountain from the lobby come courtesy of high arched windows. Two fireplaces and afternoon tea with music by a harpist or pianist are draws at The Lounge. "Don't miss the best breakfast buffet ever" at the Atlantic Grill. Phytotherapy, thalassotherapy, and hydrotherapy are available at Camelot Spa."

Our flight arrived in the morning and although check-in was not until 3pm our luggage was securely stored, we were made very welcome at the spa and poolside while we waited. We were offered shower facilities to freshen up following our flight. Our room was expedited and made available to us shortly after 1pm.||Our room had a great view. Although there was some building work going on it did not intrude on our stay.||Breakfast in the hotel was very good. While we didn’t dine in the hotel we did make use of the bar where the staff was exceptional in their professionalism and we felt very welcomed.||Would stay here again.

This could be a really good hotel once more, but there are some fundamental flaws that need to be addressed.||Starting with the negatives. We arrived when reception was not busy. We checked in but were given no information on the hotel itself, nothing on where the pool or spa were (no upselling) nothing on food options didn’t even spot the bar till day 2. It is very much here’s your room key, get on with it though they do bring your luggage to the room. Needless to say no welcome drink, no fruit or even a chocolate to greet you in the room - though you do get one at turn-down. The rooms are very tired, paint & tiles ageing and furniture is chipped. We queued every day for breakfast (despite varying our arrival time). This is meant to be a 5* star hotel! ||However there some very strong positives. The location is brilliant with fantastic views of both Table Mountain and the sea; just being able to walk onto the harbour and having everything on your doorstep is a real bonus. Staff are extremely friendly, helpful and the self-serve buffet breakfast is actually very good, once you are in. Parking is also plentiful and easy.||The Table Bay hotel is not cheap and I would expect more from a 5* hotel. I accept that you are paying a premium for the location, but there are probably better options in the harbour area. However, spruce up the rooms, improve the arrival information (encouraging more spending within the hotel) and it could be stunning!

The Table Bay Hotel, located at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, offers an ideal location that provides seamless access to the waterfront's extensive offerings. Despite its age, the building retains a certain charm, though it is evident that parts of the hotel could benefit from maintenance to elevate its overall appeal. Upon arrival, guests are greeted with warmth and efficiency by the hotel's porters and front reception staff, setting a positive tone for the stay. However, this initial positive impression does not extend to all areas of the hotel, particularly the breakfast service, which falls disappointingly short of expectations. During my stay, I encountered a noticeable lack of engagement from the breakfast area staff, with an absence of basic courtesies such as acknowledgment or offers of assistance. On the first day, after a 45-minute wait without any interaction, I found myself compelled to seek assistance from the front desk for something as simple as a cup of coffee. The following day saw a marginal improvement in wait time, but the service attitude remained notably indifferent, to the point where the quality of the coffee became a concern due to the staff's demeanor. Such experiences starkly contrast with the hospitality one anticipates from a five-star establishment and significantly impact the overall perception of the hotel. The inconsistency in service quality, particularly when compared to the warm reception at the front desk, underscores a significant area for improvement within the Table Bay Hotel's operations. Given the importance of customer service in the hospitality industry, it is crucial for the management of the Table Bay Hotel to consider investing in comprehensive staff training. Ensuring that all team members, regardless of their role, embody the principles of exceptional hospitality could dramatically enhance guest experiences. In conclusion, while the Table Bay Hotel boasts an excellent location and a certain old-world charm, the lack of consistent, high-quality service, especially in the breakfast area, detracts from its potential to deliver a truly five-star experience. As someone who travels extensively and values custopmer service, I find it difficult to recommend the Table Bay Hotel in its current state. For my next visit to Cape Town from the USA in four weeks, I plan to stay at the One and Only, where I anticipate the level of service will meet my expectations for excellence in hospitality.

This is a very nice hotel that is clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet has an astounding array of choices, including oysters on the half shell! The location, on the waterfront, is excellent for walking and visiting many shops and restaurants. There is an indoor entrance (hotel to mall) to the main shopping mall area. Lovely places! There did seem to be a level of disgruntlement with most of the food/beverage team members. They all seemed as though they'd been reprimanded (that whole "team meeting that didn't go well" vibe). Other team members (front desk, concierge) were pleasant and helpful. We did have dinner the first night, but wouldn't recommend the menu selections there. We had our meals (other than breakfast) at restaurants in the area. We'd stay here again, but hopefully if we did, the food service team would collectively, be in a better mood!

I booked 'The Table Bay' for two nights following a cruise that terminated in Cape Town. The hotel was a good decision as its location can't be bettered. It opens into a classy shopping mall and is right in the heart of things on the Waterfront. We enjoyed the restaurants nearby and the entertainment and bars in the immediate vicinity. The hotel is large and quite luxurious in the public areas. Unlike other reviewers, we didn't have to wait to be seated for breakfast and we ate inside one morning and on their terrace the other. There's a wide variety of breakfast food available but the variety is better than the quality, although it is adequate. They had sparkling wine available on the Saturday and Sunday mornings but I don't know if this is the case on other days. The room we were allocated had nice sea views but there is building work taking place. The room was very spacious with a comfortable bed, fridge, safe etc and it was a comfortable stay. The bathroom was large with a walk in shower but the water temperature proved to be temperamental, however, it wasn't a deal breaker. We didn't really use any of the facilities at the hotel but it suited our needs. What was strange was that we were allocated a room which, throughout our stay, had dehumidifiers working away outside the room, white powder sprinkled all over the hall carpet, smelly diffusers to mask odours and all in all , this was off putting and not something I would expect at a quality hotel, particularly at over £300 for the room per night. They should have taken the room and those in the vicinity out of action and used rooms that weren't impacted by whatever had happened. We didn't make a fuss but it was noted! All in all, we enjoyed our stay at The Table Bay mainly for its location and accessibility to everything the Waterfront has to offer and if visiting Cape Town again, this would probably be our go to hotel.

An amazing hotel. Staff were lovely. Room ready early with a lovely bottle of wine and some snacks in the room waiting for us. |A smashing plate of canapies was delivered every evening and the turn down service was a really nice touch. Housekeeping was great. Siba restaurant with the 8 course tasting was a really fabulous way to end our stay. |Moved onto The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay but wish we had stayed here for the remainder of our holiday.

The furniture in the room (especially the couch) looked worn and old. The rooms could do with some updating. Make sure you request a room on at least floor 3 or above, in order to get a good view. The hotel itself was good though and the location is unbeatable. However, the staff are not friendly nor efficient at all. Our waitress for our dinner in the lounge was incredibly slow, forgot some of our order (and that food only came later when we were almost done). She also never checked up on us. I had to get up and get myself a dessert menu because she was no where to be seen for extended periods of time. Just not the service that you expect from a 5 star hotel. The reception staff were also just mediocre. For the same price I'd rather stay at the 12 Apostles where the service is exceptional!

6 of us booked for high tea in February. The table was laid beautifully for us, so we expected great things. After 30 mins nobody had offered us a menu so we managed to get someone's attention. We then 20 mins later, had to get them to take our tea order. It arrived about 15 minutes later along with the 3 tier cake plates which were not that exciting. 3 times we had to ask for milk for our tea. It all took so long and was NOT worth the wait. We all felt that the staff were totally disinterested in the guests. To be fair, they were quite busy with the guests sitting outside but still, it was not worthy of a 5 star hotel . I would not recommend to anyone.
