"The Tamarind Tree Hotel Why we love it: A small inn with great value and an eco-friendly attitude Highlights: - Warm, welcoming hosts, one of whom is a certified tour guide - Voluntourism packages to help restore the Waitukubuli Trail - A prime location near two top beaches The Review: The Tamarind Tree Hotel sits atop a 100-foot coastal cliff, surveying the Caribbean Sea, the Bay of Salisbury, and Dominica’s highest peak, Morne Diablotin. A relaxed, intimate hotel, it showcases the Swiss hospitality of owners Annette and Stefan Peyer Loerner, who moved toDominicamore than two decades ago. The affordable rooms are on the simpler side, but the hospitality is exquisite. For more space, reserve a two-story bungalow, which sleeps six people and comes with a kitchen, living room, and deck overlooking the ocean. Bright pops of color enliven the decor, but don’t expect to park the kids in front of the TV. The hotel doesn’t have any, however rooms do come with fans, air conditioning, and a refrigerator. When you’re ready to venture out, the property is just a three-minute stroll from Macoucherie beach and seven minutes from Salisbury beach, home to the popular East Carib Dive. If you’d rather stay closer to home, there’s a swimming pool on-site, though it’s open to non-guests for a small fee. Renowned for its environmentally friendly practices, Tamarind Tree installed solar panels after Hurricane Maria and now runs off renewable energy. The property also offers voluntourism packages to help restore theWaitukubuli Trail, the Caribbean’s first long-distance hiking path. Guests can help remove debris, hack down vines, and trim bushes.Additionally, Tamarind Tree features half-board plans at its restaurant, a pleasant octagonal building with flagstones and Pepto-Bismol pink walls. The menu is an international mosaic, ranging from bruschetta and falafel to German bread, Angus steaks, and banana splits, not to mention local Kubuli beer on draft. Don’t miss the showstopper Creole breakfasts, featuring cocoa tea, fried plantains, sautéed saltfish, and titiwi accra , a spicy fish cake."

We loved our stay at Tamarind, a family establishment overlooking the ocean on this beautiful nature island. We were there the week before Christmas and the decor had a festive feel! The location was great for going north or south on the island and very close to beautiful Mero Beach. The owners are lovely people, the food is yummy and the sunsets spectacular. Our room had everything we needed and the porch was a great place to unwind.

Stefan and Annette are wonderful, friendly hosts with a great sense of humour and care for their guests well-being. They are attentive and ensure all levels of comfort are met, going the extra-mile. Their team are also professional, friendly and organised. The room and hotel were extremely clean! The chef’s food was divine! The views from the balcony spectacular! Highly recommend.

Delicious dinner! Sunny bathroom, big towels, fresh cotton sheets, comfortable beds. Quiet nights. Rainforest jungle & reef life! ||Dinners of Fresh ingredients prepared by knowledgeable French-trained chef. Nightly dining experience: fresh meats, fresh-caught fish, fruits & vegetables - presented as fine dining. Superb! |Cocktails and wine at sunset, far from the grind of cruise ships and crush of tourists.|Fresh-baked bread each morning. |Spectacular ocean sunset visible from rooms. Quiet, night stars, and calm location invited birdsong each morning. ||Host Stefan arranged capable driver (Kenny - WhatsApp +17672764601) who organized a snorkeling on the spectacular reef at Scottshead, endless variety of tropical corals, sea fans, and colorful fish. Swim beyond the obvious to enjoy healthy, diverse marine life. Afternoon: local lunch of satisfying choices, concluded with snorkel swim atop champagne reef, famous for coral fizzed bubbles to emit tiny bubbling micro organisms— even after hundreds of swim/dives a spectacular sight! |Very clean rooms, comfortable mattress, smooth cotton sheets. 100% recommendation for couples, solo, family. Quiet, Safe & secure.

I spent a few nights at Tamarind early this year. ||||Room was acceptable but could perhaps do with some refurbishment. Nice view out through the trees to the sea.||||Grounds and swimming pool area were very relaxing and a pleasure to spend time in.||||Breakfast was decent, as was dinner. On the occasion that no dinner was served we were driven to a close by town to eat there. As for lunch, you must fend for yourself.||||If you do not have your own vehicle then be prepared to do some walking in the hot sun. The nearest settlement is around 25 mins walk away (I walk fast). This is also the nearest decent beach. In fact Dominica's main tourist beach. It's VERY low key. Which was a god send for me having spent time in Barbados and other over developed spots during that trip.||||Not exactly a criticism, but I was the only guest who wasn't German (the owners are German). Everyone was perfectly nice but it was a little too homogeneous for my liking.||||The local lady who ran the place day to day was very friendly and helpful. Kendra was her name if I remember rightly.||||Tamarind Tree is an excellent place at which to unwind. I combined a few days here with a stay at another spot in the 'mountains' inland.

The only complaint that I have was my stay at the Tamrind tree hotel was not long enough!||The hotel is situated in a picturesque part of Dominica, it was a joy waking up to the views. The breakfast was good quality local produce with a variety of options. We had dinner every night at the hotel which which was something we would look forward to, everyday there was something new and tasty to try 😋 ||The grounds and hotel are cleaned and maintained to a high standard. The owners Annette and Stefan were very welcoming they have a gem of a place with an excellent team of staff. I look forward to returning ☺️

I was looking for a true island experience and I found it at the Tamarind Tree Hotel. Despite traveling under the guidelines of Safe Health, my hosts made me feel special and were overly accommodating to insure I had everything I need. That's the nice part of a smaller family hotel, which by the way was pristine and the surroundings lush--tons of flowers and birds, even an iguana. Views were spectacular but I was especially impressed by the food. I felt it was a real bargain compared to so many other places I've traveled. They arranged scuba diving, which were some of the most enjoyable I've made (out of 160+); pristine reefs! Staff maintained property well; always cleaning. I felt very covid-safe & everyone friendly. This is a place to come relax and unwind.

This was the second time we quarantined at Tamarind Tree when we returned home to Dominica. This time we had a hotel room and not a bungalow. The room was spacious and had a beautiful view, which included our house.||Stefan and Annette are wonderful and their extremely friendly staff go above and beyond to help us out. The food is excellent and we regularly go there for dinner, even when we are not under quarantine. The rooms are spacious and decorated tastefully. The swimming pool is so welcoming on a hot day

The rooms have beautiful ocean view, with beach towels included, which I thought was a nice touch, breakfast is modest but good, the bar has a nice quiet vibe. The staff are experienced and very accomodating. Its located a few mins drive from Mero beach and 30mins from Roseau, and the best pizza in Dominica is only a few mins drive away, too.
