I got the Pot Roast, my husband got their Chicken Livers, both were served with mashed potatoes and green beans. Simply delicious. Chocolate Burbon Pecan pie topped my meal off and my husband ordered Fresh Apple cake both were amazing. The service was excellent. They also brought a basket of muffins. So take a afternoon walk around Old Salem then eat at the Tavern you will not be disappointed!

Accommodating and conversational staff. We arrived 45 minutes before lunch ended without a reservation, but they seated us immediately. It was the second day they reopened after the holidays (they close for about a month) and were very busy; however, there wasn't a long wait for our food. The waitress shared about the history of the area and recommended things to do in both Old Salem and downtown. We followed her recommendations and had a great time! They recommend reservations for all meals. I tried calling during lunch and no one picked up the phone, so I would say to call beforehand. Again, just stopping in worked for us. We will probably return to try more food! What we had was delicious and decently priced for lunch. I would like to try the quality of the more-expensive dinner plates.

A meal at The Tavern is an experience. Since it’s located in Old Salem, it’s like stepping back into the past. The waitstaff are dressed in period costumes. The decor is simple and rustic. The food is delicious. Be sure to make a reservation since it gets busy.

Good menu-I wish we could have tried more. The desserts looked and sounded amazing. The fried okra was very good and the pretzel was tasty (watch out for the horseradish in the mustard sauce!) Decor and wait staff are according to the old time period (early 1900s?). Reasonable pricing and convenient when seeing Old Salem. Parking available on the street or visitor center.

Wonderful/wunderbar pot roast with mashed potatoes and green beans. Just baked love rolls and pumpkin muffins. And finish with the gingerbread desert is our favourite. The service in the bar room was terrific at 11 am this morning. Perfect luncheon.

The food was amazing! Service? Not so much. Our apps came with the meal. Then we were brought the wrong dessert. The server kept blaming the kitchen printer. But she is the one who brought the wrong order, and didn't bother checking on the apps when an inappropriate amount of time had passed.

The Tavern was a really neat experience. The wait was a little long, but the food was absolutely well worth it. To start, the atmosphere of the restaurant was very authentic and fun. It was lit with candlelight, there were fiddlers moving about the different dining rooms, and the tables and dining settings appear as if to be from that era. When the food arrived, I was very impressed. The rolls and pumpkin bread on hand was moist and warm, just as you would want bread to be. My soup, the cheddar and bratwurst, was nicely done. The main course, wild boar, was excellent. I can’t say enough good things about it. The red wine reduction was phenomenal, and the boar was tender. I hardly needed my knife. I highly recommend getting the wild boar if you can! The waitress was extremely fun and kind the whole time too. While the food is on the pricier side, it’s a worthwhile treat. You must stop by this place sometime!

A must-visit for a meal whenever you visit Old Salem this establishment does pretty much everything well from having a great historical atmosphere, to having a good selection of drinks and a cool bar, and the food’s great too. I found the chicken to be of lower quality, but everything else is excellent.
