I've been craving In-N-Out ever since I arrive in Europe, but haven't brought myself to try any burgers here because I didn't want to believe they could live up (and really wanted to try the cuisine of each country I was in). However, a friend of my brothers who lives in Prague told us that The Tavern had some of the best burgers in the world. Naturally, we made the trek out to find it!
It's about a ten minute walk from the metro stop. We got there at about 8 p.m. and it was packed, as it's a pretty small place. Maybe around 20 small tables total, inside and on the patio. We were lucky though because a couple left about 5 minutes after we got there.
The menu is half in Czech and half in English so there's really no confusion at all. I got the classic bacon burger, with a side of their "tav" sauce. I had no idea what the sauce was but felt I might as well try it!
My burger came about ten minutes after ordering. It was a pretty large burger, with the insides falling out everywhere. The bun surprisingly didn't fall apart too badly though which was great, considering so many places in America have buns that crumble up or get soggy nearly immediately. The burger itself was definitely not the best in the world, but it hit the spot and was for sure a good classic bacon burger. The sauce was simply ketchup and mustard, but it was a little overpowering on the mustard side.
I ordered a side of fries as well and dipped those into the Tav sauce. I wasn't a fan of the sauce, tasted like mayo and BBQ sauce (a bit too sweet) but my brother seemed content with it. The fries themselves were classic skinny fries, with a few random cross cuts thrown in there. Accident? Who knows! All I can say is they were a bit disappointing, a little too hard for our taste. We ended up not being able to finish both the burgers and fries, it was definitely a filling burger!!
Overall, if you're craving a burger, hit up this joint and see for yourself what it has to offer. I can assure you it will satisfy your burger cravings! :)
