Firstly, yes, I was a BIG fan of the original menu before the change in ownership. I will miss my favorites, but things change and so I visited this "new" Teahouse with an open mind.
I decided to try a few different menu items since there aren't too many similarities between the new and older menu... with exception of the Tea or drink offerings.
We had the Ube waffles, Eggs Benedict, quiche, and gluten free scone (that was all that was offered, baked-goods-wise), a London fog and lavender latte.
The good; purple waffles!! Besides being pretty, they were soft and delicious (the mashed Ube "jam" wasn't that appetizing, but I get the concept); the drinks were perfect, frothy, and severed in those lovely big mugs I'm glad the owners decided to keep.
The not so great; the quiche served with potatoes , while tasty for the first bites was overly salted and on the thin side, and the potatoes were average (salad would have been a better pairing), the eggs Benedict was the most surprising in quality... which was sadly bad in that the eggs were overcooked, the muffins were either stale or just burned, and the hollandaise sauce was more like paste that left a coating in the mouth; finally the scone - I don't recall the flavor but the sand-like texture made it unappetizing so it was left after the first bite.
The new menu looks very inspired by California eateries (see avocado toast and tofu scramble), so I think a tourist clientele may be happier here than the locals.
