We enjoyed our 4 nights' stay at The Thousand, the hotel is very well located just across the road from Kyoto Station (exit 5). It has a very nice atmosphere with its minimalist and modern design. The staff were very attentive, friendly and helpful. They can arrange for your luggage to be transferred via Yamato Transport to your next hotel or airport, we found this facility reasonably priced and convenient instead of having to carry your luggage through train stations.|The superior room was of a good size, with good air-conditioning and a powerful rain shower, however the storage space for your clothes was quite limited, we would have preferred some shelves and more drawers. Basic toiletries were supplied and if you required something extra such as a shaving kit, once ordered via tablet it was delivered via robot to your room, which we found quite cool. All controls in your room were operated via a tablet and the room was very clean and quiet with a confortable bed. |The breakfast was very good, with a wide variety catering for Western and Asian tastes, the freshly squeezed orange juice was amazing.

A fantastic 3 night stay in Kyoto for our honeymoon.||As soon as you walk in, it smells like a spa and you instantly feel relaxed. It's literally 1 minute away from the station (if you find the right exit - IYKYK). As soon as you walk out of the main entrance of Kyoto station you will see the tower straight ahead and you can see the hotel immediately to your right. ||Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough. We asked for restaurant recommendations and where to go to eat and were never disappointed. One lady also really helped us with an internal flight check in. ||Rooms are spacious, and extremely comfortable. There are basic amenities as they aim to be plastic free.||Breakfast was great with both a good selection of Japanese and Western options. You can also choose a hot course made to order.

The level of service at the hotel was amazing during our 3 night stay. Each staff member was attentive and helpful. A special call out to Komicho (I’m sorry if I didn’t get his name correct but he was a tall Japanese man at the front desk who helped us both at check/in and with a room service request. He even brought up the request (for cutlery) immediately to the room.) We also ordered ice that was delivered by a robot! The hotel itself is so serene and is conveniently located next to the station. The beds are extremely comfortable in spacious rooms and we had a beautiful view of the skyline. Everything in the room is controlled via IPad, and they offer lovely amenities. My only 1 small complaint is that while the lobby had a lovely spa like scent- there smell in the hallway wasn’t as pleasant.

Absolutely stunning hotel with fantastic staff and beautiful spacious rooms. We stayed in a double deluxe. It’s a two minute walk from the station so in a great location. The restaurant was high end so a bit expensive, but my family ate there and said it was outstanding. The tea and coffee lounge was amazing, the cakes and afternoon tea looked so good. The lobby has a huge staircase that has interactive light shows every night, it was beautiful. |Thank you for such a wonderful stay. We can’t wait to visit again.

I stayed at The Thousand Kyoto for four nights. It turned out to be one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. Not just in Japan, but anywhere in the world. From the moment I arrived, it was clear this hotel had been designed with intention and elegance. A minimal garden and covered arched wooden walkway greet you at the entrance, framing a kinetic art installation that gently breathes. It sounds dramatic, but the design sparks something emotional, especially if you’re someone who appreciates thoughtful aesthetics. Though it’s located directly across from Kyoto Station (a massive transit hub...super convenient!) you’d never know it once you’re inside. The lobby itself is stunning. A grand staircase leading to the second floor provides a dramatic focal point, and the stonework behind the front desk, with its subtle texture details highlight the craftsmanship that define the hotel’s ethos. While I could go on about the architecture and design, there are ample photos online for that. The service at The Thousand was polished, intuitive, and refreshingly unpretentious. The staff were always available but never overbearing. The team’s warmth felt sincere, not rehearsed, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. One standout service experience came from the Tea & Bar, the hotel’s more casual F&B outlet. We walked in multiple times without a reservation and were always seated comfortably. The staff knelt to serve at the low tables, adding a graceful human element to the space. My partner had the best cocktail of our two-week trip here. It was their seasonal gin-based Autumn drink that was crafted and plated with care. Our room felt like a home away from home. The minimalist yet luxurious design included a lounger perfectly placed before a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking Kyoto’s surrounding hills. The bathroom was impressively spacious, with a large vanity, a soaking tub, and a rainfall shower stocked with full-sized, plant-based products from Nemohamo. They even included a full skincare set, slippers, and pajamas, which I actually used (and I typically never use those). In-room dining was also seamless. The gym exceeded expectations. As someone who works out while traveling, I was impressed by the large space and well-maintained cardio and weight equipment. The bath area was a serene and beautifully designed space. It was nearly always empty, making it feel like a private spa. We didn’t get the chance to explore the full spa or other F&B options beyond the Tea & Bar, but those we did experience left a strong impression. The concierge was superb. They helped us book a traditional teppanyaki steak dinner that became the best meal of our trip. It was a restaurant I never would have discovered as a foreigner, and we were the only non-local diners there. The concierge mentioned she celebrated her own anniversary there, which made it feel like a genuine recommendation, not just one of the usual tourist suggestions. They also arranged seamless luggage forwarding to our Tokyo hotel (where we’d stay after a four-day excursion). Not only did they handle the process internally (no third-party coordination needed), they ensured the bags were waiting for us when we arrived in Tokyo. This small gesture made our travel so much easier! This is a premium hotel, and yet at no point did I feel nickel-and-dimed. The pricing felt appropriate for the level of service, design, and comfort. Every detail was thought through, from the lighting and bath products to the layout and flow of common spaces. That said, this hotel isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for just a functional place to sleep, you may miss what makes The Thousand special. But for those who appreciate design, wellness, and hospitality, this is an ideal property and I can't recommend it highly enough. I can’t wait to return to Kyoto, and when I do, I’ll definitely stay here again!

Google
Beautiful hotel, very helpful reception and concierge, excellent location. The room and bathroom was large and spacious, lighting and curtains etc. are controlled via iPad. You can also order amenities and a little robot delivers it to your door. Very cool. Highly recommend.

We are family of four visiting Kyoto. Modern and stylish. Location very good, just next to the station. Staff very helpful. Highly recommended. The only negative is that there is no view.

I appreciate the concierge who helped us with our luggage delivery questions - she was great! I do wish they prepared a little something for the milestones we celebrated. The room was very spacious, modern and clean although our room was facing the cemetery and you can hear the train tracks at night. There’s nothing much around the area unfortunately. This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at and just expected more in terms of amenities and making our stay more welcoming and memorable.

Yelp
The Thousand Kyoto is a hotel I will recommend in a heart beat. Location wise, it's a walking distance to JR station, Kyoto tower and Isetan mall. All within 2 minutes away. Our room was enormous. It has a sophisticated minimalist design which was so relaxing and comforting. The bed was California king and the pillows were the biggest ones I've seen so far in a hotel. What about the high tech toilet which automatically opens when you go near and the toilet bowl itself lights up which was very helpful at night. The bathroom has Rain shower and the regular shower head. The modern design let's you want to shower all day and was so refreshing. The mini bar had a tea set too with free green tea bags. The free amenities looked so elegant too. I will stay again and again in this hotel. Oh let me not forget about the friendliest staff too.

Yelp
New hotel with excellent location across from JR Station and Subways. Very modern with cool art in common areas. The rooms are super modern, with electronic everything including the standard Toto Star Trek toilets - buttons in English so you don't have to worry about accidental "launch". Bed was large and comfortable. My room had a deck and plants surrounding it on the 5th floor. I-pad controls all room functions except TV. Limited English channels - mostly news. The staff is nice and helpful. The only downside is the restaurants - they are very modern and stark and of course overpriced. The main bar could not serve martinis - so we were walked over to the attached next door hotel which had a normal bar. I found a superb deal on Expedia - $250 per night for a room that the hotel and my travel agent were asking $660...

Yelp
This hotel was amazing!! Recently opened so everything is brand new and high tech. Good location near the train station. There is an alley way you can use to it through and it is about one block away. Staff was extremely friendly. Room was large and beautiful. Loved the bathroom. Def worth the price. We didn't eat in any of the restaurants so we are unable to speak to that. I would def stay here again.

Yelp
This is a new hotel and you can tell by how pristine the hotel looks. The staff is helpful and attentive and it's in a great location in relation to Kyoto station. The size of the room was generous by Japan's standards.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel next to main train station of Kyoto (it's a city down below with wonderful shops and restaurants) gorgeous entry but no doorman to assist with baggage when I arrived late evening. Check in was very friendly and despite asking for a quiet room, I was taken to a room right near the elevator. The entire room is controlled by an electronic tablet next to the bed. Amenities were lovely and pajamas were of gorgeous quality. Surprisingly, I found our room a bit dusty on the glass shelves. There is no view as this hotel faces a side street on one side of the side of the station. Breakfast was on 2nd floor and you have a choice of American or Japanese style in 2 restaurants. We chose the American Buffet and includes an order of one selection of the a la carte menu. I chose pancake one morning(a bit dry) and egg avocado Benedict another morning but truly the buffet has many choices that it isn't even necessary to order anything additional. We were very surprised to see a varied selection of exotic fruit(they will cut it for you and serve at your table). So here is the biggest disappointment to beware of ... I had booked this hotel one week prior since my favorite hotel in Gion was unable to add another night to my stay. The 1000 asked me to pay in full upon check in(first time I've done that in all my visits to Japan). When I was showing their website to friends who live in Kyoto(and they are in the hotel industry too) we noted that the room rate offered was half price from what I paid when I booked directly one week prior! I immediately brought this to the attention of the front desk and requested the hotel manager and they would not budge to reduce my rate. Thatis awful customer service for a new hotel trying to attract tourists. They did offer me 2 additional breakfasts for my friends to join me but they were not unable to do so during my stay. My suggestion would be to wait one week prior to get the best rate at this hotel

Yelp
A hidden gem but probably not for long! Hotel just opened in January (2019). Beautiful zen-like hotel. ALL of the staff were so nice and helpful. Breakfast buffet was amazing with a variety of foods. Rooms are high tech (controls for AC, lights, etc). Spacious room and shower with large tub. If we ever return to Kyoto we will definitely stay here again. Every time you walk into the lobby the aromatherapy running is soothing. As you can tell, their attention to detail is impeccable.
