The Three Horseshoes, Somerset, UK - Explore & Book

"It’s always a delight to find yet another reason for visiting this coveted corner of North Somerset, which is fast becoming a foodie haven. Top London chef Margot Henderson (owner of Rochelle Canteen) caught wind of the region’s rep, choosing to open up her next establishment in a 17th-century pub in a tiny village near Bruton (of Hauser & Wirth fame). The quaint village of Batcombe has little more than a handful of stone cottages separated by hedgerows, an impressive Norman church sited atop a hill, and now, next door, a destination pub. Inside, it’s all flickering candles, inglenook fireplaces and pared-back simplicity: a romantic nod to the pubs of yore. Inspired by Somerset’s bountiful garden, Margot's dishes draw on produce from the fields and orchards that fan out from the pub, as well as local meat and game. Menus change twice daily so every meal is a surprise, but it’s all traditional, unpretentious and exceedingly good. But that’s not all. Above the pub there are 5 enormous bedrooms that are so sumptuous we found it a struggle to go down for dinner. They are furnished in soothing colours, with pitched ceilings, roll-top baths and huge handmade beds that you could get lost in. Each room is indulgent and luxurious - an entity in its own right. But if you do manage to surface, there are dozens of attractions nearby, like Stourhead, Longleat and Bath, plus plenty of foodie highlights. Loosen those waistbands, you’re in for a treat! Highs This is fast becoming a destination pub for foodies in the know; the menu changes twice daily, and everything we tasted was hearty and scrummy The pub itself is rustic and cosy and perfectly matches the simple style of the food. In summer, it spills out onto a flower-filled garden overlooking the village church The rooms are the best we’ve seen in a pub: enormous and gorgeously furnished in calming tones - plus free snacks! Picturesque countryside walks from the door, and the upmarket towns of Bruton and Frome are close Dog-friendly and kid-friendly - there’s a big playground opposite the pub Lows The menu here is heavy on meat, but there is always at least one vegetarian option for starter and main course The breakfast menu is limited but you can order as much of it as you like (two options when we visited, both divine)" - Lucy Richardson

Office Christmas do. Lovely vibe to this pub. Friendly attentive staff. Wasn’t overly keen on prawn cocktail felt sauce lacked a little flavour? However, the hake with new potatoes and green veg was fantastic and highly recommended. Can’t wait to come in the new year with the family and try more of the menu!!

Fantastic pub. We found it welcoming, especially as we were "Tourists" and the menu had a good choice of food. Loved the homemade pie!

Welcoming pub with a lovely garden. We stopped by with dogs on a walk and had a very pleasant drink in a beautiful garden under a large willow tree. Can't rate the food because we didn't eat but it smelled good.... Next time!

A Lovely Pub With Great Food, But Service Lets It Down We’ve visited this pub a couple of times now for Sunday lunch. The pub itself is beautiful, the atmosphere is lovely, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. The main meals have been consistently delicious — really can’t fault the food. However, on both visits the service has been extremely slow, especially after the main course. Each time, dessert has been completely forgotten about. We’ve had to go up to the bar to ask for a dessert menu, and even after requesting it, we ended up waiting nearly an hour with no dessert arriving on either occasion, we’ve ended up cancelling the order and leaving. It’s a real shame, because this could easily be a five-star experience. The pub is lovely and the food is great, but there’s definitely a lack of attention to customers once the main meal is served. If the service was improved, particularly around desserts and follow-up, it would make a big difference.

Stopped off for lunch on a long journey back and had a genuinely fantastic meal. Lovely service from the guys behind the bar, absolutely great pub food and a warm and cosy atmosphere. Can't recommend enough.

We were a big group so had pre-ordered. The food was a real mixed bag... some (like the burgers) were poor whilst others (like the pork belly) were decent. Service really let it down. We were told to order our drinks at the bar (unideal for a table of 20) and the food was so spread out that some had finished eating before others even had their meal. To top it off, they added £40 to the bill for service.

A beautiful pub with amazing views, delicious food, comfortable seating and travel ambience. I had the lunch special, so worth the money and delicious! The ham was soft, juicy, tasty and plenty of it. The brownie is more like chocolate cake, but tasty none the less. There are so many interesting decorations in the pub. We sat inside, which was very comfortable, but in a good day you can sit outside and watch the amazing view. They even provide water for your pups! ❤️

Nothing to write home about unfortunately, especially given the heavy prices. We each had a roast dinner, 2 beef, 1 chicken, 1 pork. The pork was fantastic and absolutely worth the price. The beef dish was missing a little something but still very good. The chicken was woeful, it's advertised as a chicken breastfeeding but the reality was 4 massively overcooked goujons. It was like trying to cut through a lego brick and sharper to eat. There were also no parsnips in the dosh as advertised, had they told us this, it would be fine, but missing ingredients that you're paying for, with no mention as to why, isn't great. It was the service that shocked us to be fair, youngsters that couldn't have cared less about us being in there. We felt like a hindrance to them and considering the place was close to empty, you'd think they'd be more attentive but nah. Unfortunately, we won't return.
