I have long heard great things about The Tomato Place in Vicksburg, so on a 2-night stopover there when returning from North Carolina, I took time to seek it out after visiting Margaret's Grocery. I'm so glad that I did. In fact I liked it so much that I dined there twice! In the early summer there are few, if any, things that taste better than a fresh tomato. From the outside, it looks like a roadside vegetable stand, which it is. However, if you go deeper inside, you will find a little cafe serving up all manner of deliciousness. I ordered a fried green tomato BLT with avocado and an unsweetened tea ( a little heretical in these parts). I got a side of cheese grits which I promptly scarfed down before taking a photo. Everything was delicious!! I regret not having some bread pudding. I dined there again on my way out of town. For nostalgia's sake, I had a tomato sandwich: fresh tomato slices on white bread slathered with mayo. That was truly the taste of summer! There are so many menu items that I have on my "next time" list. I can't wait to go back!

A Fantastic Breakfast Spot with Amazing Food & Southern Charm! We arrived around 10:30 AM and had one of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had! We ordered a BLT with fried green tomato and avocado on rye, a side of fried green tomatoes, and the classic combo of eggs, stone-ground grits, bacon, and a biscuit. Every bite was off-the-wall good—fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The service was just as impressive. The staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and prompt, making us feel right at home. One of the highlights of this place is the vegetable stand with a great selection of fresh, high-quality produce. They also offer some fantastic canned and homemade products that are worth checking out. If you’re looking for a delicious meal with great service and a bit of local charm, this spot is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

Google
This place is 5 + star across the board! My husband and I LOVE this place. The staff is amazing. They are so friendly, and work so hard. We enjoyed every time we stopped by. The place offers a variety of delicious food options, that are made to order, along with fresh smoothies that are amazing, desserts, and drinks (the fresh made lemonade is so good). You will be impressed by all they offer at this small local roadside cafe. I have stomach issues, and the fresh fruit smoothies were a saving grace for me during our time in Vicksburg. We love this place so much, we went daily while in town, and agreed it will be our go to stopping place when traveling through the area. As I said, we had several meals, and nothing was short of excellent. Aside from all that, they sell fresh fruit, veggies, plants, homemade jam, homemade pickles, honey, their own sauce that will go on anything, breads, bread crumbs, coffee by the bag; just all sorts of things. The atmosphere is so relaxed, and welcoming. We honestly love it here. Great for any time of day, and is the PERFECT road side stop while traveling. They have seating in the main area (see pics), as well as outdoor seating scattered around. This wasn't our first time here, and we were so impressed that it is still as wonderful as our first visit. Without hesitation, add this place to your trip if you're ever passing through or visiting Vicksburg. If we lived closer, we'd be there regularly.

Google
My wife found this place online. It looked like a quaint little produce store / hip restaurant. Only about 10 tables, which was fine. Produce selection was ok. Wonderful looking tomatoes! The look and vibe was cool. Huge menu, but the food was a big letdown. Burger was dry, overcooked with no flavor on what seemed to be a toasted, flat 2 day old bun. Located in the side of a highway, literally. Overgrown yard. This place has potential, but needs some tender loving care.

Google
This place has such a relaxing atmosphere. The food is true southern comfort and the freshness cannot be beat. There’s out door seating with flowers all around. If it’s too hot outside then there’s two open room seating areas that have ac. This place is eclectic and fun with food that will make you drive out of your way to get a taste. We ordered the breakfast plate and they did not skimp on any of the meal. Tons of bacon. So much cheese on the grits that you can see the strands stretch as you get a bite. Everything was cooked perfectly as if you were at your Mawmaw’s house. I had to try their biscuits and they were soft and flaky. Partnering this with their honey was the best! Pictures cannot do this place justice. Thank yall so much for the good food and great experience. (We stole a few bites from the plate before the picture)

Google
Amazing! What a cool place to enjoy a meal or snack. Wish I had The Tomato Place in my hometown. The nicest staff and coolest vibe. If I am anywhere near Vicksburg in the future, I will make time for another meal, cool views and southern hospitality.

Google
Loved the Tomato Place, the friendly and helpful individuals that worked there were fantastic. The sandwich and breakfast was excellent. The atmosphere is a little rustic with both inside and outside seating. Don’t be fooled by its appearance, take a chance and you won’t regret it. PS the Mississippi Fever is fantastic, take some home!

Google
The Tomato Place is a true hole-in-the-wall gem! Packed with authentic, delicious Southern flavor in every bite. The BLT and cracklings are the favorites for sure—simple, fresh, and absolutely mouthwatering. If you’re in Vicksburg, this place is a must. Full of charm, flavor, and local character!

Yelp
For a place that looks like a shack on the side of the road, it's everything you'd hope from Southern cooking. You might walk through the front door and raise an eyebrow thinking you're walking into a roadside farmer's market with all the fruit lying around and the collection of frozen coffees and smoothies, but don't be fooled, this place has some of the best food you'll find in Vicksburg. I ordered with my team (shoutout Americorps!) and we all got a little something different but everyone LOVED what they got. I ordered a plain catfish po'boy and if that wasn't one of the best po'boys I'd ever had I'd be going to the doctor to double check if my tastebuds were working. The catfish was perfectly crunchy with a really nice seasoning- not too overpowering but enough to add a little extra oomf to every bite. The home fries were really good, it was like they pulled the potatoes straight out of the ground and put them in the frier, well portioned and delicious. I also loved the lemonade, it tasted like the kind of fresh squeezed lemonade you'd make in the backyard. Just perfect. I got a coffee for the next day, the white mocha java which was kind of just alright. It had a very muted flavor with an unpleasantly bitter undertone. I don't think I'd order the coffee again but some of the other people I came with enjoyed theirs so it may have just been that specific batch. Other than that, I really don't love tomatoes, but I LOVE the tomato place, and will be coming back here next time I'm in Vicksburg.

Yelp
Well, I could NOT be happier with this hidden find! Do not wait to take the exit off I20 to Hwy 61 to The Tomato Place. Y'all!!! The BEST tomatoes, friendly service, and those Fried Green Tomato BLTsGETCHA ONE!! My husband had the cheeseburger and also said it was the BEST.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Felt like I was in Jamaica! Open and quirky. Food was great. Smothered greens were just home goodness. The burger bbq was delicious and juicy. The marinated salad also great. They skin their tomato's which makes it that much better.

Yelp
Kitschy in the most inviting and endearing way! We arrived at 6:45 PM and ordered- the kitchen closes an hour before the store closes because they have to clean up etc. The BLT with fried green tomatoes and avocados on toasted wheat bread was fresh and well seasoned. Our side was fried yams which were thick round disks served with their homemade Mississippi Fever sauce. (We bought a big bottle after that - perfect combination of sweet and heat!). We topped off the meal with warm bread pudding. We shopped and looked at the produce - there is nothing fast food about the experience but it IS an unforgettable one! Personable staff and owner. A true small town vegetable stand that serves great food!

Yelp
This is a ramshackle and colorful produce stand that serves food, focusing on their delicious tomatoes. The service is scattered, the line is disorganized, the seating is limited and the place is hot as hell (in June anyway),but it is still totally worth a visit. Never saw anything like it. The parking is a mess--it was absolutely packed on a weekday. This place seems to be known far and wide. I would give a 5 star for the food (and there will be a wait), it is not 5 stars because of the disorganization. But don't miss it! You will see what a real tomato tastes like, not the colored rocks sold as tomatoes at your supermarket. If you've never had fried green tomatoes, this is the place to try them.

Yelp
Lunch stop with the kids and dogs. Traveling through from LA to AR. The food was amazing! And the feel of the place was country homey. Everyone was so nice. It was a fun stop.

Yelp
I had not stopped here in a while but I am glad i did for lunch today. The staff are very friendly and the food is very good. I went with the BLT on wheat with avocado and a side of cheese grits. Outstanding sandwich and the grits were delicious. Good sweet tea. Got a piece of pound cake for the road. Great local place with lots of options. Highly recommend

Yelp
Super little joint on the side of the road. The owners are super friendly and super great cooks. The food is way above the bar. Had a burger that seemed like half a cow, salad was tasty and fresh. The smoothies were tasty and fresh. Boiled peanuts were awesome. We really enjoyed our brief stop.

Yelp
Off the highway is this little shack cafe. The Fried Green Tomato BLT was recommended by staff. It was good, but nothing special from other BLT's I have had. Try the homemade bread pudding, but ask them to warm it up for you. My son had the bacon double cheese burger. It was massive! He loved it and somehow managed to eat the whole thing. I noticed the cheese was not melted on it. It didn't bother him, but would have me if I was eating it.

Darlene H.

Yelp
Got a hamburger and fries, it was wonderful! Cooked perfect! Great price! The atmosphere takes you back in time! Just be careful, it's on the side of the highway, people go fast!

Erin E.

Yelp
The friendly vibe and service hits you as soon as you walk in the door. Cute set up with lots of history and things to look at. We had a fried tomato BLT and a Catfish Po Boy and they were both out of this world!! They have homemade hot sauces made in repurposed beer and liquor bottles that are delicious and make for a cute presentation. Definitely recommend and will return!

Yelp
Worth the hype! This place exceeded our expectations, everything was amazing. Even the condiments (jam, hot sauce, dressings) were house made and INCREDIBLE. I loved how the ingredients went straight from the farmers market area to the kitchen. Farm eggs, toast, fries, tomato sandwich, salad, po boy, fruit cup, all were among the best I've had. The fruit cup was generous bursting with fresh seasonal fruits, the classic tomato sandwich was THE best tomato sandwich I've ever eaten (and I eat them often), the salad tasted fresh from the garden and was a great compliment to the meal. Even the scrambled eggs tasted special but I couldn't put my finger on why. And the hot sauce was so so good - unfortunately they were out of bottles to sell because I am going to be dreaming about it for months. My entire road-weary (cranky) family left the tomato place happy and satisfied. I wish we had more time in Vicksburg just to eat at the tomato place a second time.

Yelp
Had the Luke's Blend this morning on our biscuits and had to let you know that it was the best. Again so happy to have stopped and met you. Hopefully again someday !!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
Loved this place! Best bacon cheeseburger I've ever had and I've had my share. As most folks say it looks like a roadside stand from the outside. I sat inside and everyone was super friendly. I loved the unique decorations. Super great experience.

Yelp
I couldn't find a place to safely park. It's on a highway, looks like a fruit stand and place is always packed. Sadly I'll never risk it till I find it on a slow day. Take it for what it's worth. Supposed to be good food, but it appears treacherous.

Robert M.

Yelp
The food is fantastic!!! I was very impressed with the catfish poboy. The fries were ok....the problem is the 1.5hr wait to get my food. It's a small dirty little place, but I might try it again.

Jerry B.

Yelp
Love the fried green tomato BLT with avocado. I've eaten here many times, and the BLT is excellent. Really worth the trip. Funky atmosphere and pleasant service.

Archer W.

Yelp
Holy crap ther BLTs were amazing, but don't get me started on there smoothies. Me an my son have gone a few times before on work trips and there amazing, the staff is very nice and you just can't beat there meals. There meals reminds me of being in my childhood home and getting a home cooked meal. P.S if your Going to get a smoothie get the banana and peach one
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
A very eclectic restaurant - still looks mostly like the fruit stand it once was. I'd never stop here if it wasn't for the high Yelp ratings. I had the Shrimp PoBoy ($15) and a large smoothie (6), while my wife had a grilled chicken sandwich (10) and fried green tomatoes (6). The tomatoes were rated great, the sandwiches good and the smoothie, just OK (should have been strawberry, but the bananas were overpowering). They have quite a varied menu and probably 20 other smoothies so it might be worth a revisit.

Maxim D.

Yelp
Food was outstanding! Staff was warm and friendly. Ambiance was good with the feel of an old southern rustic dining room. KLove on the radio was a bonus.

Jen W.

Yelp
Always delicious and friendly service! Loved sitting in a farm stand and spending money on all the yummy produce and house made goods!

Yelp
Cheese Grits. Let's talk about that. Grits May be a controversial subject, but we are safe here, so let's dive in. Speaking of diving in, if you already love grits, then prepare to BE SEEN! If you are grits-ambivalent, then prepare to start loving grits like those above. If you (think) you don't like grits, well, then you have never tried THESE. So, pull over and give yourself a moment to dive in everybody. Bring a Kleenex to wipe the tears of joy that slip down your cheeks.
google avatar

Teri W.

Yelp
Cool little road side stop. Love the variety of frozen drinks. Food was nothing special.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Roadside shop with everything and I do mean everything that you could possibly need. Had a delicious BLT and took home some treats. Fast, friendly and efficient service and a delightful place to peruse while waiting for your order.

Melissa T.

Yelp
Amazing food!! Catfish Po Boy and bacon Cheeseburger were delicious! Very friendly staff. And while you're there you have to get some Mississippi Jerk sauce! Perfection!!

Yelp
Be sure to stop at this hidden gem in Vicksburg. Was working in the area and my wife recommended it, you will not be disappointed. From the fantastic bread/tomatoes to the made to order foods and drinks. I cannot say enough good things about the place. Service was outstanding and very kind. I will certainly be back next work trip to the area.

Yelp
For starters, the atmosphere is charming eclectic, hole in the wall greenhouse/road side stand/shack. So don't let it throw you off before you give the food a chance. Thank goodness the food came quick. Mom was starting to get antsy, especially after we had to listen to a guy use the restroom. Side note from that experience, eat outside. Mom got a burger, cheese grits, and fried green tomatoes. The burger was a tad dry, but it was hand patted. You can't beat a hand patted burger. The cheese grits were creamy and fluffy like golden orange clouds. I noted at least cheddar and goat cheese in the grits. The fried green tomatoes were battered in corn meal and came with some sort of come back sauce. I had the fried green tomato BLT with avocado. It all tasted so fresh. Crispy lettuce, big fresh tomatoes. They also do to-go orders if you just can't sit a spell and enjoy the atmosphere. If you're passing through town and have never seen the Mississippi River, make sure you head back north to 20 and go west to stop at the welcome center before the bridge to take a gander. A memory I'll never forget- eating fried green tomatoes and watching my mom see the mighty Mississippi for the first time.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday around noon to eat with some friends. It was fairly busy with limited seating inside. It was pretty hot inside and it is very run down inside. I ordered a blt with fried green tomatoes. I ate it and it tasted okay, but not great. I did not know it at the time of eating it, but they had forgotten to put tomatoes in my blt. Looking back at photos and discussing with friends, I realized they had forgotten the tomatoes and that was why it did not taste great. Overall, it was not a great experience and I would not come back again.
google avatar

E S.

Yelp
Best BLT I've ever had! Come get yourself one, you won't be disappointed. I paired mine with a fresh squeezed limeade and I left with a smile. The lady who helped us was warm and friendly. My hubby and I sat inside in their fresh air dinning area. We enjoyed a BLT with avocado and a fried green tomato BLT while listening to the birds singing their morning songs. Both our meals were excellent.
google avatar

Isaac H.

Yelp
This place was great. It's comfy, cosy, and comfortable. There is a wide variety of food. I had the Anna Melt and it was great. The sauce was reminiscent of a sweet and sour. Make sure you're not in a rush though because they have limited workers and space so service is quite slow.

Wayne D.

Yelp
First off. I wasn't a BLT fan. Not until I went here. So amazing! Have to get the fried green tomato BLT. The dressing they put on it is great. You may have to wait for food but it's worth it. The atmosphere is definitely unique. Think of an old blues dive turned into vegetable stand. The people are so friendly. Stop and give it a try!

Amy C.

Yelp
What a great, fun, quirky place! Stopped here while passing through town. Friendly staff and amazing food. We especially loved the classic tomato sandwich, the fried green tomatoes, the fried okra, and the fried green tomato BLT. Will definitely make this a regular stop anytime we are going through Vicksburg!
google avatar

Nikki T.

Yelp
Loved this delicious little spot. Was working in town and stopped by for a fried green tomato sandwich. It was delicious! The staff is super friendly. And they had so many delicious fruits, breads, and sauces you could buy. Highly recommend!!

Rachael F.

Yelp
We went for breakfast and it was fabulous! My son had a fruit cup and it was fresh and delicious. I had a breakfast sandwich and my husband had the eggs and grits. I'm not from the south and I had never had grits like that. Now I understand why people love grits!! They were amazing!! So cheesy and rich. I basically stole them from my husband. So yummy!!

Ronnelle B.

Yelp
Best BLT ever, especially the one with the fried green tomato!! Such a fun and quirky place. We even brought home tomatoes, onions, jerk sauce and seasoned bread crumbs.

Jonathan K.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch and we were slightly unsure of how to approach. After a journey through racks of bagged fruits and fresh breads for sale, one finds themselves transported to a snapshot of the past with an eclectic elegance sure to charm. Food was so good.

Tiffany S.

Yelp
The fried green tomato BLT with avocados and smoothies were delicious! The service was friendly but slow. We were there for 1.5 hours for a party of 9. It's difficult to get around in the small shack especially with a handicapped person. I do not recommend this place for larger parties.
google avatar

Cord C.

Yelp
This place is great. We make a point to stop here whenever we're driving through. Definitely try a smoothie and sandwich. I really like the cantaloupe and cream smoothie and the fried green tomato blt. We also bought some fig jam to try and home and it was delicious.
google avatar

Seth S.

Yelp
Such a fun place with great smoothies, great food, and a dog-friendly patio. Definitely, check this place out if you're ever in Vicksburg on a beautiful day.
google avatar

Angel W.

Yelp
Best in town! So fresh! Everyone is polite and respectful. Foods amazing. Seating is great! Love the decor
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
A must see while in Vicksburg! When you approach it, it looks like a nursery. Park your car and walk right in. Everyone is very friendly and accommodating. The sandwiches and poboys are great! Especially the bacon avocado BLT which is my fave! You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Tamara S.

Yelp
What a quaint and eclectic place. When you drive pass, you would think that it was just a farmer's stand. Nope, it's a small restaurant behind the Come In painted on the door. There's a variety of smoothies for purchase in the cooler, along with fresh tomatoes, nuts, and breads. The staff is VERY friendly and greet you as you come in. I ordered the Fried green tomato BLT and it was delicious. I think this is how I will eat my sandwiches this summer when I grow my own. What a great combo together! Next time I will tell them to hold or go easy on the Mayo, but besides that, absolutely no complaints. My dad had the turkey club and he really enjoyed it. If you're looking for somewhere different to eat check this place out.
google avatar

Luke J.

Yelp
Very good BLT club. Very good shrimp po-boy. Very good breakfast (can't find what is was called) . The service was kind. Very interesting environment; it was like an old store that sold homemade grocery product and ceramic and glass like items. Excellent Keylime Orange Crush smoothie.
google avatar

Amanda M.

Yelp
What a wonderful find! I can guarantee we would not have come here if it weren't for Yelp. We were passing through Vicksburg, and I checked Yelp for a lunch spot. This place caught my eye, and it wasn't too far out of our way. Don't let the outer appearance scare you away. The people are friendly, and the food is delicious. We drank some of their sweet tea and fresh squeezed lemonade. Both very good! We also tried their marinated salad (YUMM), which had a ton of dressing on it...but not in an overpowering way. It was filled with so many fresh veggies! We also tried their fried green tomato BLT on wheat. I believe their bread is homemade. All around, a good option! We also tried their home style fries and their mac & cheese. They have a ton of other appealing side items as well! Make sure you read the vegetable list by the cash register.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
This place is a fun and funky detour for a quick stop 'n shop, or a meal. We had the flagship offering of fried green tomato BLT, with avocado. Don't even think about getting it without avocado-incredible. It is eclectic and wonderful, a true gem. Do yourself a favor and get fried okra also. 13/10 would eat again.
google avatar

Buddy B.

Yelp
Wonderful food and great produce. I had a fried green tomato BLT with avocado slices on it. Large and filling. The bacon was thick and plentiful. We also bought tomato's and peaches. Both fruit were super tasty.
google avatar

Lolli K.

Yelp
Popped in for lunch since we were traveling, such a cool spot! They have assorted sandwiches that are tasty. They have a wild variety of fresh produce also. Employees were kind and helpful :)
google avatar

Jimmy W.

Yelp
A unique and eclectic treasure on your next road trip. An assortment of sandwiches and food items along with a shop with fresh produce and jams jellies and many other treasures. We had a BLT with fried green tomatoes and very happy with everything!
google avatar

Todd E.

Yelp
Food was excellent and atmosphere is quaint, but come prepared to wait a few minutes as this is home cooked food made with love!
