Lovely friendly pub. Room was clean and comfortable. Bed linen superb. Views over the London skyline were stunning. Excellent location for going back over the Thames to the heart of Westminster and Southbank. We ate in the restaurant, took advantage of the Saturday night steak deal of 2 sirloins and a bottle of Malbec. With a discount being guests we even had pudding! We will book again next time we go to London for the theatre.

Walking the area and stopped by. Wow! One of the best Sunday Roasts I’ve ever had in London. Very reasonably priced and excellent service. Had the pork belly but the others all looked equally good. Lots of care in the preparation and high quality ingredients. I will certainly be back on another day to try other items on the menu.

Google
Great location and very comfortable room with everything you need. Smooth check in and friendly, welcoming staff. Decent breakfast available at weekends in the pub downstairs. Good value, bit of a hidden gem., would definitely recommend.

Had a lovely meal here last night before seeing the comedy upstairs. Great burgers - really tasty and a good portion. The chips were especially good. Service was spot on. The special offer was a great touch. We will definitely eat here again next time we're up for the comedy. Thank you.

Google
This is a lovely place to stay. Great location really close to Kennington tube station, lovely bar serving really nice food. The room we stayed in was gorgeous - decorated really nicely, spacious bathroom with a double sink, chilled water and milk in the fridge, coffee machine and kettle. And most importantly - glorious air con. Will definitely stay here again.

We both had the steak, benefiting from the half price food offer. Food was good as usual and Christophe was his usual attentive self. Will avoid Tuesdays (quiz night and noisy) in future but may try the comedy club some time.

Google
The two comedy shows were great, we really enjoyed them both. Such a good opportunity to see big names in smaller venues. The pub was lovely and easy to get to from the tube but the service at the bar/restaurant was really slow. It was a busy Sunday but only one bar man was working, we got there well before the first show so had plenty of time but waited over an hour for our food and had to ask the waiter twice for our drinks. The roast dinner was lovely when it arrived but had to rush it and didnt get my dessert as didn’t want to miss the show. Would defo go again as really enjoyed the gigs but would probably eat somewhere else before.

Google
Lovely food. Very good quality with friendly service and the 30% discount with the comedy makes it extremely good value. All in all it was a great night out and will be doing it again very soon.

Yelp
Nice place for a pint and a bite to eat. Located in the Lambeth section of London, The Tommyfield was a solid location to spend our last night in London.

Yelp
Quaint pub with great prices, friendly service and mostly importantly tasty homemade food. The fishcake special was to die for. Crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned inside with a lovely mango salsa accoutrement. For dessert I'd recommend the banoffee pie. Shout out to my lovely servers Maya, Hector and Chapi. Bonus points for the fab music playlist too.

Yelp
To start off service is SLOW. On multiple occasions at took quite some time to get our drinks (and our server even forgot our order completely the first time we ordered). The food was much better than the service. Pies are hot and large enough for two, sides are tasty, and all was prompt coming out of the kitchen. Prices are quite high for a pub, however, too high. We also stayed in the hotel upstairs (which is awesome) but that is for a separate review.

Yelp
Open early with great food (kitchen closed at 10pm FYI) Loui is the Best bartender by far and you'll never leave here without a friend Be sure to snag a table for pub quiz!!

Yelp
We had the roast beef with all the trimmings. It's was yummy and a very large portion. The gravy on it was delicious! One waitress was a bit rude, she was a bit mad at us for seating ourselves, but there was no indication not to and we saw everyone else seat themselves so I kind of feel like we didn't do anything wrong. But the gentleman server was extremely nice and helpful. And we very much enjoyed our meal!

Yelp
Lagunitas tap tasted like rust. Bartender was a cunt about it and made me pay for another beer. Never coming back... horrible service.

Yelp
Having to stay a few nights in the Kennington neighborhood, we were rather disappointed in the lack of restaurant options in our vicinity. We did notice a few pubs, so one dismal rainy day we popped in to The Tommyfield for a dinner and drinks, Straight away we really liked the layout, nice long windows with tables set up along an elevated platform, with more communal tables in the middle. The beers on tap included some local cask ales that the barstaff was more than happy to describe and pour samples, and proved so much more satisfying than your typical tasteless lagers. We both had pie, myself the shepherds pie and my girl the biryani, and each one was rich, tasty, ample in size and stuck to our insides comfortingly as we relaxed with our brews to read a newspaper and take in the patrons. Recommended! Especially for Kennington, where there ought to have tumbleweeds blowing through.

Yelp
The Tommyfield hosted an excellent Qype birthday event for a number of Qypers in their upstairs Master Room last night, which showed what a great venue this space can be. Billed as The Battle of The Sexes, about forty people were comfortably catered for in a somewhat regal setting. There is a small bar with efficient and helpful bar staff. The catering we sampled could be described as bar snacks - it was certainly tasty indicating that the food from the main menu would also be worth a try. As with all venues it is the hosts who actually make for a memorable event. Last night The Tommyfield staff played their part along with Qype to host a great evening - it certainly worth considering as a venue if you want to organise an event for yourself.

Yelp
Went for lunch at the Tommyfield. A nice looking pub with great interiors. I ordered a veggie panini and they mistakenly sent out a fish finger sandwich. No biggie these things happen. However, the panini that came back five minutes later was obviously the fish finger sandwich with the fish taken off and aubergine put on instead - complete with tatare sauce still in place! Ewww!! Would not eat there again.

Yelp
I visited yesterday the Tommyfield to attend the funny Qype Birthday Event: Battle of the Sexes. It was held in the upstairs private room, which has its own bar and lots of space, chairs and some armchairs and couches. The staff was really friendly and patient, given that we were very loud and were doing very strange things (like putting make up on people and make them to do the catwalk, shouting "cat", "cupcake", "police car" or "cup of tea" as part of the memory game or feeding 2 random people with chillies). It's a lovely place to host a private party. We got to try some tasty nibbles along with the drinks at the bar. I really liked the fried Halloumi (which I totally mistook for fish!) and the sausage roll. The mini hamburgers were very nice as well. But since I was the luckiest person that night and I won a 3-course meal for 2 people, I will update my review as soon as I get to enjoy my prize! But it the food in the menu is as good as the nibbles, I think the 5 stars will still be right.

Dominique L.

Yelp
I'm not going to comment on the Battle of the Sexes. I think far too much has been said of that event already. And, besides, this review is meant to focus on the venue, so focus, I will. I've never been to Kennington before this event. I didn't really know what to expect, but walking past the little park where people were chilling out and playing boules was certainly a nice introduction to the area. The Tommyfield itself was really cool. It was certainly far bigger than I expected. I don't really know about the main drinking area, but the upstairs private room was nice, bright and big. There was a nicely-staffed bar with friendly service staff and decently strong drinks. The nibbles provided - mini-burgers, fish & chips, etc. - were really good as well. I'll admit that seeing as it's been a few weeks since I visited the Tommyfield, I can't really remember what else caught my attention, so I'll just end off by noting that the ladies' restrooms were nice and clean. I'm sorry. It's been a while, and I drank quite a few!

Yelp
Not the greatest atmosphere here, although that might have something to do with the fact that I don't think the locals were none too keen when a noisy (but ultimately) harmless group of us turned up. The beer was delicious. A golden beer called Cavelier from Two Cocks Brewery (chuckles). You saw me enjoying two cocks at the weekend? Yes you did, that was me.

Yelp
Sad to say this place has gone downhill. Went previously with team buddies, shared the platters and loved it! Went this time with work mates and was so disappointed. My steak & ale pie was so dry it was hard to swallow. The fact they actually added gravy on the side makes me realise that they KNOW how dry it is. When I complained the waitress even said "yeah that's a really dry one!" It shouldnt be! It's steak and ale!!! Two of my work mates had the salmon ravioli and complained it was cold (which it shouldn't have been considering we were the first customers!!) and gritty. Made me think it was a frozen meal. When I complained I was offered a desert. But really, how would that have turned out??? So sad, because the rest of the place is nice.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to attend the Qype Battle of the Sexes event here and was really pleased with everything (besides the corruption of the male judge... cough, cough). The Tommyfield fits the comfortable and nice standards of all the other Renaissance Pubs in decor and food, with better service than I've received at others. Fried Halloumi and chips was greasy cheesy heaven and better than the fish n chips. Enormous sausage roll adaptation was quite tasty and fun, and the mini-burgers were pretty good, too. I regrettable skipped out on the cheese on toast, which everyone else seems to rave about (shucks)! The private room was really lovely and great for big groups with its own little bar, but unforts no balcony access. Am definitely keen to go back and check out the restaurant in full.

Yelp
Really great venue this is... Attended the Qype Battle of the Sexes and had a great time. I must say that it really wasn't so much of a battle, and the judges kept helping the girls team, but hey it was all fun n games. Blokes still won! TBH that was a lie, the judges were FAIR.... The bar itself is definately worth a visit, the food that was served was delic'.. Mini burgers n mini fish n chips and they were very tasty indeed, but even the the fine foods and great drinks that were on offer weren't enough to take the bitterness from the losing side! Boys 1 - Girls 0

Yelp
Great building and the room was really nicely fitted out. All Completely spoilt by the manager of the bar closing 1/2 an hour early and refusing to let us put some drinks and a bottle of water on our room, I wouldn't mind but the guy stood at the bar with a full pint had clearly just been served before we arrived and there were other customers still about. Pretty much made us feel unwanted and a nuisance for asking what in any other hotel is a simple and very common request. Why publicise hours of trade and then ignore them? In short this is not a hotel, it's a pub/restaurant with a few quirky rooms over it that doesn't seem to care about customer service.

Yelp
On a rainy Sunday, we happened to find ourselves in Kennington looking for a pie. We found two and a nice pub with great atmosphere, good beer, and delicious food. Tables weren't available right away, but a very short wait at the bar got a couple samples of the pulled (house-crafted?) beers. We went for the darker, bitter, which is some of the best beer I've had here in London. Gosh, I wish I remembered the name of it! The pub has lots of neat levels and different options for seating, and we lucked out with a spot where we could see everything. We snuggled in with our beers and some newspapers, watching the rain out the window and taking in all the people around us - young, old, a birthday party, a girly afternoon get together. Really nice, mixed crowd. The food cured my pie craving - at least for awhile. I had the biryani pie which I thought might be dry, but wasn't, and my dining partner had the shepard's pie. His was incredibly meaty and juicy. They use local, sustainable meats, and judging from the taste, they're quality. Portions were huge, by the way, and I don't think we'll eat anything else for the rest of the day. We decided we wanted to stay awhile and ordered a dessert to share. With our teeth still aching from our last bout with sticky toffee pudding, we opted for the apple and berry crumble on recommendation from the server, and it was terrific. The perfect little portion with a side of ice cream. The dessert was more tart than sweet, which was exactly what we wanted. All in all, a great place. It's a little pricey, but if you linger long enough and take it all in, it's well worth it.

Yelp
Last night I headed on down to the Qype boys vs girls quiz at The Tommyfield. I was expecting a traditional pub quiz (How many strings on a Oud, 1974 FA cup winners etc.) however it seemed a lot more like the last day of term in a failing, boozy school. Which was much better. Quite how the staff managed to remain professional as the upstairs Master Room played host to insult hurling, pint downing, chilli eating make up applying challenges was a mystery, but they did - serving up drinks fast and friedly as could be. Drinks on offer were the usual suspects for a better than average pub-with-food - but they do have a special treat behind the bar - Sipsmith Vodka - amazing stuff - any pub that stocks anything made by Sipsmith gets a big copper- stilled thumbs up from me. We were treated to some ace, and very British mini canapés (fish and chips, sausage roll slices, cheese on toast etc.) that I wolfed down at a frantic pace - lovely to have some 'proper food' canapés rather than salmon puffs that are made from air and fish odour and nothing more, that you usually get. So I'd imagine the food here would be served in slabs, designed to punch you with flavour and leave you feeling full. Perfect for pub. So, a great big spacious pub with big food and great drinks, staffed by people who don't mind you shouting about celebrities having their way with family members and downing pints.

Yelp
I visited The Tommyfield last night for the #Qypebattle of the sexes. The girls might have lost (just!) but the pub itself was full of win. The battle took place upstairs in the master room, an intimate, contemporary room with a rustic charm. The bar staff were friendly and served us quickly - always a good thing. The food later in the night was adorable, with mini pizzas, cones of fish and chips (really yummy fish actually) and mini burgers on the menu. Mini food always wins points (you can eat twice as much as it's bitesize, right?). Overall, I'd definitely consider going to The Tommyfield again, particularly as I'm a Tastecard holder so it's 50% off.

Yelp
Named after the Oldham market where the first chip shop opened 150 years ago, The Tommyfield's focus is fantastic produce. Inspired by Victorian chop houses and food markets, the menu features sustainable fish sourced from our beautiful coast, the finest cuts of British beef as well as traditional pie and mash. As a proper pub it's not just about the food, they have an excellent selection of cask ales and award-winning wines, with over 20 available by the glass. The staff are among some of the friendliest I've met which makes it even easier to keep on coming back.

Yelp
Drinks were fine. Food was terrible. The service was appalling. When asked if we could have our burgers rare we were told by the waitress they didn't do rare, minimum medium. They could do a steak rare, but not the burger (!) - normally a sign of either pre-bought beef mince or mince of questionable quality. I said fine I'll have it medium. 3 minutes later the arrogant so-called manager comes over and said he would like to explain the way the kitchen works. I said no fine, I'll just have my burger. But he insisted on educating me on why burgers could never ever be served rare. Anywhere. "Enlighten me". "Because burgers are always pre-cooked". I said I never heard that before (because it's bollocks) and he said that that was obvious "because I've been in this business longer than you have". Cue anger. I said to just give me the burger and leave me alone. He insisted on educating me more. "It's unhealthy to have anything rare and proper restaurants don't serve anything rare because it's unhealthy". Right (that's why we could have a steak rare - they're not a proper restaurant?!!?). We should have left at this point but decided to stay. Starters came and they were bland. Burger arrived served with "tomato salsa" which was obviously from a jar, probably Dorito's. The burger was average and the bun was shop bought. Dessert were very mediocre - the caramel sauce with the sticky toffee pudding was either burnt or shop bought and overly sweet, the vanilla ice cream was definitely shop bought. Also, I didn't see anyone else in the place finish their food. I know it's a pub and it's pub food but I can at least name 20 other pubs where I can have a very good meal and friendly service. This place is a waste of space and the so-called manager should not be allowed to work in the hospitality industry. At least work at a couple of decent places before you start educating your paying customers about stuff you don't know anything about. Avoid like the plague.
google avatar

Yelp
really liked this place. i consumed an 'omg this is awesome' burger while i was there and was so sad when i filled up and couldn't finish. my dining partner had the roast turkey dinner they were doing on special for the holidays. he really liked it but thought the turkey to stuffing ratio was lacking. but if it's good, it's good you know. anyway, we've been back since - sadly to our horror we found out they don't serve food between 4:00pm and 6:00pm so that's a good tip. but i would definitely eat hear again. they also had a couple of big groups in for christmas dinners when i was there and it would be a great space for a group gathering/birthday dinner sort of thing as well.

Roly W.

Yelp
Come here if you want to stand at an almost empty bar for 20 minutes being ignored by bar staff with faces like slapped cats. The beer is suspiciously tasteless, the food is shit but the service is even shitter. Got the distinct impression that the staff here wanted all their (quiet, well-behaved Sunday afternoon) customers to fuck off and die. 'Tis a shame because the bar is spacious and well-designed with a big projector for sports.
google avatar

Yelp
Decent place with a nice friendly vibe. I went there for dinner last night, and the service was prompt and friendly. I has the pumpkin dish and the red ale. Both were delicious. Was delighted to find a vegetarian healthy dish in a British pub.

Yelp
Nice place indeed. Friendly service, good menu options. I had the pork croquettes with piccalilli (pulled pork in breading basically), and the rabbit and leak pie. Nice food, great fries... very important. When you arrive at your table, they get you a bottle of water and glasses without asking, which I love.

Yelp
We went there when it first opened several week ago. The place was very busy and we waited 40min before we could get a seat. Despite the chaos there was and the slow service, the food that we ordered was good. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming. We'd go back again.

Yelp
Stayed nearby in Kennington while in London for a few days. Our innkeeper recommended the Tommyfield to us as a place for good fish and chips. We weren't disappointed. A nice gastro-pub layout, fairly child-friendly (we had DD in tow). Had the fish and chips and the boar burger--all very tasty. Good cask-conditioned ales as well.

Yelp
I was at the Tommyfield last week to attend the Qype birthday event Battle of the Sexes quiz! The Tommyfield is based in Newington, is a great Pub let's say, with a ground floor where they serve drinks and diner and a private room upstairs where the quiz was held. It's a great place to hold a private party & they have a terrace but you can't access it (I've been kicked out of there but by a very kind waiter) but it still make the room look nicer! This event was absolutely wonderful thanks to our brilliant speakers Jane & Eamon who have driven with lots of fun this 50 people 'battle'!!!! We've done weird stuff, laugh a lot and the 'palm d'or' is going to Rachelle who had to eat a whole spoon of Marmite & other horrible food or perhaps to the lady that down a pint of beer in something like 5-second lol! The Tommyfield staff also deserves a big thanks for their warm welcome & also for offering us their best nibbles, some mini British food that was looking so nice, mini burgers, mini fish & chips and halloumi & chips & everything was really good and tasty!

Yelp
A generally nice pub. We came here in a big group on Thursday and got pretty drunk so I didn't get an odinary punters point of view (our group pretty much dominated for the period we were there) but it was spacious and had comfy seats and tables. Food menu looked interesting - just written on a blackboard on the wall under generic headings ("Pies", "Grills", etc) but we didn't try any

Yelp
This place is just opened and has seriously good food but unfortunately when it's buisy the NOISE level is excrutiating. Have been here in previous incarnations and it has always been thus. So the obvious solution is to go for a week day lunch when the crowd should be small and the food, classy brit food, good steak, lovely scallops, fabulous greens, will be a total treat.

Yelp
Tommyfield is one of a chain of pubs run by Three Cheers (previously the Renaissance pubs) Went for a team lunch in a group of 10. Service was nice and swift, one item was incorrect but was quickly replaced with the correct dish. My pulled pork sandwich was fab, with the pulled pork beautifully moist, and some crisp hand cut chips alongside. A good venue for a nice lunch

Yelp
Only one reason to go: if you have the 50% off coupon from Beefeater tour. ALSO, if you have plenty of time to wait for your food (it took us more than an hour). Otherwise, avoid. Service poor, from inexperienced waiter who was sweet and well-meaning but pressed into service without proper training (no fault of his). Food was fine (fish&chips and burger especially), but they forgot our appetizer. Inexcusable: one of us ordered a beer that was unappealing, and the Tommyfield refused to substitute another! Really?!? Bad customer service, that. If the service were up to snuff, I'd give 4 stars. Diners at the next table were regulars who told us Tommyfield had become VERY inconsistant lately. As it is, there are too many other really excellent places in London to tolerate these oversights.

Yelp
I was lucky enough to go to Qypes Battle of the sexes event to celebrate their 5th birthday which they held in the master room upstairs. This place is a little gem in kennington, it certainly doesnt look like your run of the mill pub from the outside or inside. If you have seen my review on The Avalon in Clapham you will know i was really impressed, well this bar belongs to the same family. They served up some very tasty nibbles, a cone filled with deep fried Halloumi and chips (had a me a little confused as i thougt it was fish and chips lol), after there were these cute little burgers which were excellent quality real gourmet patties. There were some platters of cheese on toast and cones of fish and chips and finally slices of sausage roll (which were more sausage plait size). The staff were friendly and very quick. I looked at some of the meals on the way out that others were eating and they looked lovely and smelt great. I think this is a definete must if you happen to be in the area to stop in for good food and a drink. A true gourmets delight

Yelp
we called ahead to find out if they were still serving, and they said for another 15 minutes. we paid for a cab and showed up 10 minutes later to find out they would not serve us dinner. had dinner just down the street at an italian place that did keep its kitchen open a couple of minutes later for us.

Yelp
For me Sunday lunch conjures up images of crispy roast potatoes with a hint of rosemary and garlic, rich hot gravy, freshly risen Yorkshire puds and a nice warm and cozy atmosphere. If it's the same for you AVOID the Tommyfield. We had to send the first plates back as all aspects of the food were stone cold. What we had instead was no better, it seemed the meat had been taken off the plate and the rest put in the microwave. Cooks (Trades Description Act prevents me from calling them chefs) from catering college these days seem to attend the 'How to Overprice Food' class and the 'Stack the Food like a tower for presentation' lecture but must still be in the Sunday all-nighter for the 9am Monday morning lecture on basic cooking skills. They did take 25% off the final bill but so thankful that I didn't take my mother there, god forbid, she'd think all London eateries were like this.. Surprising really that the place was busy with the yummy mummy brigade but I suppose with the hectic lives they lead having anything cooked for them, no matter how badly, is a godsend..
