Yelp
I just got home from spending 5 days at The Hotel of South Beach, and it was bomb. I'm in my late 20s and my husband is early 30s, I'd highly recommend it to couples and other people within our age demographic or older (not for kids).
Here are some major positives about staying at The Hotel:
-Fabulous location. We didn't even bother renting a car, it was super easy to walk everywhere (this is HUGE coming from an LA native since driving is my life). Uber picked us up at the airport and dropped us off no problem (cheaper and better service than a taxi both ways). The Hotel is in the heart of South Beach, on Collins St. which has lots of other Art Deco hotels and cute shops. The beach is a 3 minute walk across the street and Ocean Ave (aka party central) is one street over but just far enough away so you aren't annoyed by the idiots acting like peacocks.
-You get 2 complimentary lounge chairs, an umbrella, and towels right on the beach just for being a guest!!! Holy shit, this was the biggest surprise and the best part of my vacation. I don't know why they don't advertise it everywhere, but it's marvelous.
-The staff are super outgoing, hospitable, and nice. Major props to John and David, both of them have great attitudes and personalities in addition to going above and beyond to help guests.
-I came to The Hotel with my husband to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary, and John arranged for us to have a bottle of wine and chocolates upon arrival. Super classy and very thoughtful. If you're staying for a special occasion, take a minute to call them and let them know before you arrive.
-The workout room is open until 11pm, and has a treadmill, elliptical, recumbent bike, weights, body ball, and water station. I refilled my bottle throughout the trip there. The workout room also overlooks the rooftop pool. The pool is heated, open until 8pm, and it was open the entire time I stayed there. There is a bar at the pool with multiple servers, and they play chill music.
-Wifi is included with your room and is easily accessible throughout the hotel.
-We had a really cool view of Collins St. from our room, which potentially could have been annoying but wasn't. It was charming looking at other Art Deco hotels and fun watching the characters below.
-Ladies, the bathrooms are equipped with nice blow dryers so you don't need to lug one over in your suitcase (pro-tip: your hair is gonna end up looking like shit anyway with the humidity so don't even bother bringing a straightener).
The only negatives:
-breakfast is not included with your room. This is usually something I go out of my way to find, and I was bummed that it wasn't included. No worries, Pinocchio Cafe is right across the street and serves great coffee and food for prices similar to Starbucks (but waaaay better coffee and food, and run by adorable Italians).
- As others have stated, the walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbors. Luckily we had rad neighbors next door who we chatted with whenever we saw them, but I could see where this could get super awkward or downright annoying if you have shitty neighbors or you yourself are the shitty neighbor.
- The minibar in your room is not really a fridge. It just keeps everything room temperature. This is inconvenient if you have medication that needs to be chilled (or just alcohol, I mean really).
Overall, the negatives are easily overlooked and did not retract from our trip (they're pretty vanilla). I will most definitely be back in the future, and I'm planning on bringing more people with me. Truly an excellent experience! Final words of advice: don't rent a car, uber to/from the airport, and call ahead to let them know if you're spending a special occasion there so they can set you up with some wine and chocolates.
