The Townsend just happens to be the venue for this Annual Benefit Breakfast for Oakland Family Services, a non-profit organization that helps women in children in need. With many different programs to assist an array of situations in addition to treatments, education, and preventative services, Oakland Family Services dedicates themselves to strengthening families in SE MI. They have four locations offering assistance with Early Childhood Education (Free preschool and Children's learning center), Family preservation via Foster Care and Foster Home Licensing, and Behavioral Health Services (including specialized services for youths) from counseling and psychiatric services, to assistance with substance abuse, to peer support and parent empowerment.
Each year they help over 400,000 people cope with very real situations. They're a private non-profit, and they rely heavily on sponsorship and donations. To find out more, check out their website.
Located in the posh area of Birmingham, the Townsend looked to be well maintained. It's decor is a reflection of new and old world charms. The common areas give off an Old English feel with marble fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, and fresh floral arrangements throughout.
Breakfast consisted of a set plate, scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and farmer sausage, garnished with a fresh roasted tomato. It was served with coffee, orange juice, and a variety of pastries (danishes, croissants, and artisan baked goods).
The croissant was not as crispy as it should have been and the buttery taste was prominent, clearly playing towards the crowd. The inside was light and airy as a good croissant should be, and the taste was also on par. 3 stars.
The scrambled eggs were light and fluffy. The bacon was thick cut and maple smoked, blending sweet with salty, not a one overpowering the other. The hash was a little more wet than I prefer, but what stole the show was the garnish! That tiny little piece of roasted tomato was well seasoned and super flavorful. Overall 3 stars.
This is somewhat a strange review, it's a review against the hotel, but I didn't really stay there, I only tasted their food. But then again, even the food was a set course, and I'm not sure if i's something on their regular breakfast menu. Bottom line, you may need to take this one with a grain of salt.
FYI: Parking is not included with any stay, but they do provide valet services. Rooms average $300/night. There is a gym, but no pool, and room service is offered 24/7. Guest wifi does require a password.
