The Ultimate List of Wonderfully Specific Museums

"Located in the quiet town of Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma, The Toy and Action Figure Museum celebrates the bright, wild world of action figures with a cacophonous collection of plastic characters. The museum is partitioned into different sections, including a collection of cartoon artwork from famous Oklahoma illustrators, and a room known as the “Batcave” that features nothing but Batman-related figures and collectables. The museum holds over 13,000 distinct action figures, many of which have never been taken out of their packages. The main attraction of the museum is the sprawling central diorama, which features thousands of figures from every imaginable franchise. Spider-Man swings past a hanging X-Wing fighter while Psycho Man makes an entrance onto a Peewee’s Playhouse playset. The effect is one of childish joy. Nearly five years before the museum’s 2005 opening, Paul’s Valley started an initiative called Vision 2010, the goal of which was to create attractions that would drive local tourism. To this end, local toy designer Kevin Stark began working on The Toy and Action Figure Museum that stands today. Stark was able to open the museum as a fully accredited nonprofit, the only official museum of its kind in the world. In addition to all of the toys on permanent display at the museum, visitors can pick up some action figures of their own at the site’s gift shop, or should we say, toy store." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

I've been to some nice toy collections, but this gem is a must. The crew are very nice, and if you're lucky, you can catch the owner. He knows everything about his inventory, and can take you right to an item anywhere in this museum. I spent 3 hours and made 3 trips around the museum, each time finding things I had missed before. Also, they rotate displays with back room stock to keep everything fresh. I found the museum on a long trek, making a 1 week arc from the South. It's a bit of a drive from my home town, but I will be going back. Don't miss it. Even if you have to go a little out of your way, just go ahead and stop by. You won't be disappointed if you have any interest in toys of all kinds, from all generations.

Google
This place was really neat. I am definitely glad I stopped. It's always fun to find different kinds of things to check out. It will definitely be a plastic from the past with toys. There is something for everyone to check out. The more you look the more you see.

Google
This collection is a must see! My family (including my notably nostalgic husband) were all completely blown away, not only by the sheer number of toys but how creatively they were displayed in scenes. This museum was wonderful fun, with scavenger hunts and about every interesting thing you could possibly wish to see. Bravo!

Gabrielle Garrett

Google
Great stop for a fun time for almost all ages. If you like collections, comics, movies, action series, action figures you can spend a LOT of time here. It has more to it every time I have visited. Highly recommend!

Johnny

Google
I have always wanted to stop by this place on my travels but never had time. I took my family there on. Sunday, and we had an absolute blast! The owners were so nice and welcoming, and there’s even a scavenger hunt with a prize for little ones. My 3 year old loved every moment of it!

Kate Kerly

Google
Lots to see here if you love any sort of toy or action hero. Brings back many memories! Lots of photo opportunities too. It was bigger than I expected. Not too many people around when we went, so we could spend time looking at what we wanted. If you're there near lunch time I recommend the diner next door. We ate there first and the portions were massive!

Google
I’ve been to this establishment 3 times now and I never get tired of it! This was the first time our youngest was able to visit and he was very impressed - mostly with the ride on cars! :) The vast array of memorabilia and nostalgia just brings such joy to my 80s kid heart. The displays are fabulous and you can spend hours just looking at them all. The last time we were there several years ago the big “room” was Batman themed but I was pleasantly surprised to find it filled with Star Wars this go round! I recommend this establishment to anyone who is a movie fan, tv fan, pop culture fan, 80s nerd, collector, a breathing person. It’s just great and really makes your inner child giddy. Bring quarters for the ride on machines if you have little ones in tow. The front includes a shop with reasonably priced toys to take home!

Google
I could have stayed there for days and not seen everything! One cool place to visit!

Yelp
A timeless and unique museum between OKC and Dallas. I enjoyed every exhibit. The attention to detail was remarkable. Worth the drive.

Yelp
Very friendly owner, I like this museum so much. Perfect for kids and adults. You definitely has to come here.

Yelp
Great place to visit if you have an hour or two to burn. The toys are set up in really fun and cool displays, and still pretty informative! We definitely had a great time here and the tickets were reasonably priced.

Richelle L.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. So much to see and bring out those memories of childhood. Toys are well displayed with just enough info to learn without distracting from just enjoying. Make sure you look everywhere as toys are displayed on walls, on shelves, hanging from the ceiling. We plan on watching for when the display changes out as there are more toys than displayed in storage. The staff and owner are very welcoming and informative.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place randomly on a road trip to Oklahoma City. We saw the signs on the drive and simply could not pass this place up. We love museums! It is located in a small little town not too far from the highway. Parking was easy. Admission was cheap as can be. The name says it all. This neat little museum of full of toys and action figures. I grew up in a house with two brothers so we went through our fair share of toys and action figures. It brought back so many memories from our childhood and was very nostalgic. The amount of toys and organization very impressive as well. It's probably not one of those places you would plan a whole trip around, but if you are in the area or driving through, you should definitely give this place a try!

Yelp
What a fun place! I've been here before, but it's fun to come back. It hasn't changed much since I was here a few years ago, but it's still fun to come here. The biggest display is the Batman display in the back and it is impressive! They have some Star Wars displayed on the back right and some Marvel displays on the left. The biggest thing that you notice at first is the massive bedroom setting on the left with what seems like a million figures on the "bedroom wall". It's a fun place to spend some time in and look around. The people at the front are friendly and they have some souvenirs and shirts at the front. Parking is a breeze, even though it's in down town.

Danelle R.

Yelp
Was on a roadtrip and happened to see a sign on the main road about an action figure museum. 10/10 experience. It was so awesome to search through the big display and look at all the little details. 100% recommend.

Yelp
A fun and informative stop in Pauls Valley. The Batman display is particularly full and especially entertaining. Reasonable admission and easy to find venue.
google avatar

Yelp
It is neat the first time for sure, but, very pricey imo. I would not go over and over again. One time was enough.
google avatar

Brandy W.

Yelp
This spot was one of the highlights of our staycation! We went down on a hot Friday and was so relieved to walk into a nice air conditioned venue! The toys were laid out in a way you could walk through and reminisce without being crowded or feeling like you were in peoples way. The Batman room, of course, is the absolute best! No matter what toys you loved, I bet you will see it here! They also have a fun shop out front with a few toys, t-shirts, and memorabilia. Just go already! They also have military discount!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I had so much fun this place was cool and I can't think of one person that doesn't like to look at toys.

Doubleace2423 ..

Yelp
Love this place so much. The kids always have a blast seeing all the new arrangements. Definitely makes me nostalgic.

Yelp
This is a one amazing, unbelievable, awesome place to visit. Young or old, you will find something that you have had or cared for as a child or a young person or old person. Unbelievable collection of toys. We were passing through from Arkansas going towards Texas, and stopped to see this place as it was recommended on our Roadside Americas website. It is a must visit. If you get a chance to meet the owner, the person responsible for this goodness, the great artist, Kevin Stark, whole visit will be extra special. On a sidenote, Mr. Kevin Stark, a great person, a wonderful and knowledgeable artist willing to share his ideas, his knowledge, his experience in a world of toys and other forms of art. While you there, take a stroll down the main street and visit Mr. Kevin Stark art studio. That is even more impressive if that's possible.

Yelp
This museum is pretty small, but jam-packed with toys and figures! So many superheroes and toys, past and present. You'll definitely find some nostalgia here. There's also a children's area with toys they can touch and play with, and a bunch of dress up clothes. Pop off the highway, stretch your legs, and check out this cool museum.

Yelp
this place rocks like it's shreddin and buzzin out da wazoo, i got a lion pez dispenser and the candy wasn't hard i also got donut car 10/10 would recommend, the donut car perfect condition, also they got action figures there too, and i got to meet my idol dwayne the rock johnson, but he was a lot smaller than i expected :(

Yelp
Love visiting unique places like this! $7 to enter, $5 if you're a college student (other discounts are available)! Awesome antiques throughout the store. Our favorite part was trying to find the Waldo in the diorama bedroom set! We eventually found him after 15 minutes of looking!! Definitely recommend stopping by here!
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
Well worth the diversion from the interstate, this is the biggest collection of action figures you'll see anywhere and it's entertaining even if you're not that into toys. It costs $7 to go in, but it's clean, well organized, and there are more things to look at than you can count. It's a vast and obviously extremely expensive collection.

Yelp
Day seven of our road trip to San Diego, stop 3. Sarah and I are total suckers for the odd. It doesn't take much for us to be convinced that this or that attraction is worth adding another hour to our drive. But hell, in the nine days it's taking us to drive to California, what's another hour? Sarah was reading, but when I passed the billboard telling me that an Action Figure Museum was coming up in a few miles, all I could think of was the first time I Facebook stalked Sarah and saw pictures of her posing at some festival with some dudes wearing Transformer masks. I knew this detour would please. The small town of Pauls Valley is pretty cute. You've got the bank on the corner, the insurance office next to it, a diner across the street, and the packed full antique shop right there in the mix too. Within minutes we found the museum, its storefront filled with figures all facing the sidewalk provoking passersby. Now, since it was President's Day, downtown was shut up tight, as tight as the Incredible's tights. The museum was closed. We looked inside through the windows for a few minutes, and marveled at the large collection, noticed the arrangement, and really wished we had caught it on a different day. It might be a year before we're making the trek from Oklahoma City to San Antonio, but when we do... we're stopping here. Tip: explore the rest of downtown, the people are nice and the shops are worth the time.

Yelp
For Father's Day we took my husband to the Toy and Action Figure Museum. We were not sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The amount of toys and action figures is hard to explain. Everywhere you look is more to see. When I say they have a little of everything I am not exaggerating. They have an action figure of the meat that Rocky Balboa punched in the Rocky movies, action figures, disney movie figures, and even My Little Pony figures. I would recommend taking the time to stop and look. With a 4 year ol we were concerned, but they have an area with action figure clothing, toys, and areas for kids to play. This was a great stop! Make the time to visit while you are here. We had the added joy of getting to meet Kevin Stark. Most of the collection is from his personal collection. He also designed his own comic named Geezer, and designed many toys for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There is a whole display of toys he has designed. Very nice man! As a side note: Cameras are welcomed and encouraged!

Yelp
Today was my fourth time I have visited here while on business in Oklahoma. One of the coolest things about the museum is it's diversity. They have collections of toys from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 2000's, which appeals to the young and young at heart. Today I met Kevin Stark, the owner. I mentioned to Kevin that my 5 and 2 year old love the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012-2013), and he said he designed the original TMNT toys from the early 90's. Kevin asked if my kids had favorite turtles, and since they are Leonardo and Donatello, he drew photos of each for them! This will make an EPIC Christmas present. Kevin also said he has such a large collection they need to move to a 5x larger facility. My only knock on this place is it's difficult location, but they are looking to move closer to the highway. This place is a gem, and I wish it more success in the future!

Chris K.

Yelp
Way more fun than I expected. I would actually recommend bringing some binoculars or opera glasses! There is so much to see and some of the figures are kind of far away, I had trouble seeing them all.

Yelp
So much to see! Got a groupon rate, just over 8 bucks for two people, totally worth it!

Yelp
Travelled up from Lake Murray on a cold winters afternoon to check out the museum. Had heard about it for years from friends and family. Our boys, 9 and 4 had a great time looking at all the toys and action figures, and our youngest really loved getting to play with some toys, too! Husband and I smiled and really enjoyed taking it all in and remembering being kids and having some of these things ourselves. We spent around an hour and would recommend it as a fun, family-friendly place to visit. Had a chance to visit with the owner, who, in addition to being a creative master collector, is extremely kind and friendly.

Jameson T.

Yelp
Loved this place and there's so much to look at. Easily get lost with all the amazing sites

Yelp
This was a brief stop on a road trip on I-35. Had a 3 and a 6 year old. They asked to go back. There are more toys than one could imagine for an extensive toy collection. There is also a small area to play dress up and play with some toys. This area may need some new costumes, but the kids had fun. There is a small gift shop and friendly attendant.

Yelp
Recently the perfect storm of events enabled me to stop by this small museum in a small town in Oklahoma. We were on our way to the Internet Cat Film Festival in OKC from Dallas, there was a groupon, and it was Batman's 75th Birthday. These events coupled with my love for toys and super heroes drove us to stop by. It's a small museum but there is so much packed inside. There are easily thousands of toys in display cases, mounted on walls or hanging from the ceiling. There is a whole room dedicated to Batman filled with toys, memorabilia, even Batman themed food that was on sale years ago. There is a funny diorama of an adult collectors bedroom. Of course this bedroom is still at his parents house. There are great little gems or easter eggs in this bedroom such as an elvis concert with GI joes and transformers rocking out. There is even a great dress up room and toy room for people to play in. I believe this is intended for little kids however I am not ashamed to admit that I put on a costume or two or played a little war with the tanks. When we went as I mentioned above they were having a Batman event with free cupcakes, cookies and a prize basket that all you had to do to enter was pay admission. It was a great weekend that started off right as this was our first stop. Not only was the museum a great inexpensive way to spend a few hours, but we also won the gift basket full of Batman items! It's a great attraction, in a great little town and very easy to get to from 35.

Yelp
----CLOSED MONDAYS----CAMERAS ENCOURAGED/SOLD in Gift Shop This collection is MOSTLY the toys of an eccentric, local Toy Designer. [HIS fame includes designing the ITCHY & SCRATCHY, among many other PLAYMATES TOYS' Simpsons figures. The TECHNODROME and several other Original Line TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES toys. Sections of the museum are semi-permanent...like the KYLE WYNDRIX collection [sculptor of Robocop, John Lennon, The BALROG from Lord of the Rings, Conan, The Crow, and numerous other figures...some original sculpts are on display, some are finished toys in the package.. The "bedroom diorama" ...also the WWII diorama of 12" War figures never fails to impress... The Batman franchise collection in a cave setting is the highlight of the stop. The museum staff ranges from comic guru's, to housewives, so be sure to ask if you want a tour, or in depth info.. Not that you have expectations...but, if you did, this place would blow you away! Check their calendar, you don't want to miss the annual DOUBLE DOG DARE DERBY. An open HOT WHEELS only event! [g'head...bring your 'ringer' IF YOU DARE.]

Yelp
This place is really fantastic! Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. We loved it!

Yelp
Very cool museum! Brought back plenty of fun childhood memories. I wanted to jump into the display cases to play with all the cool toys!

Yelp
This was the best place for some quality family time. no stress

Yelp
Holy Crap BATMAN--it's action figure overload! There's some great photo opportunities here. And there's a lot of action figures. And yes, they sell action figures in the gift shop. There's a Batman section, a Star Wars section, a cowboy section and army man section and the rest is sort of haphazardly thrown together. And call me picky, but it seems like they go, "Uh, what do I do with this Speed Racer car?" "Go put it next to the giant bird in the Star Wars room." And then I'm confused. Is it worth the money to see? Maybe once, and you won't really spend more than 45 minutes here, and that's if you drag your feet, take a restroom break and shop. Still, it's nice, clean and family friendly. Good stop on the way to OKC.

Ryan S.

Yelp
This place is quite a trip down memory lane. I'm amazed to see so many toys I forgot about years ago. It's fun to see a different layout each time I visit.

Amanda F.

Yelp
This place is amazing. They have anything you can think of and then more. A must see. They have coin operated rides and a dress up area for the kids. I could spend hours here.
google avatar

Richelle L.

Yelp
Great time exploring with my kids and grandson. Many things which thrilled each of us to see. Stimulated many stories of each of our childhoods. A definite place for everyone. Plan to return with others who would love love love this museum. Also understand that the collection changes throughout the year for there is more to display than room to display it.
google avatar

Elle L.

Yelp
So much fun! Definitely a must! Nostalgia runs rampant especially if you're a fan of comic books, super heroes, Star Wars, Star Trek, alien movies, cardboard cut-outs, playing dress-up, cartoons... I digress! We drove up from Ardmore at the end of a trip to turner falls and lake Murray. Definitely worth the drive!
google avatar

Rebekah G.

Yelp
We absolutely loved this place! My husband and I saw the billboard and decided to stop in. It's a huge collection & there's something for everyone. Even though I wasn't a big action figure fan, I still really enjoyed myself. They also have a cool place for the kids to play dress-up in a fake control room. We highly recommend it & will be taking our nephews & nieces the next time they are in town!

Rachel G.

Yelp
Wonderful pit stop on the way to OKC. Fascinating! We had a lot of fun playing 'eye spy' in the museum.
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
This is by far the coolest in geek that you can get. I just wanted to jump the barracade and play for days but alas, I am old and want to come back. Evil doers beware there are Batmen everywhere!
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
This place was awesome! If you have a love for Action Figures or collectibles in general stop by here. I think its totally worth the cheap admission.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Excellent museum! This is one of the best put together pop culture museum I've visited. The exhibits were well organized and full of memories. The children's play area was amazing and made me wish I was 10 years old again. Loved the store up front; really reasonable prices. Will definitely come back when in the area.
google avatar

Amy B.

Yelp
What a neat place! Be prepared for Superhero overload...one display has over 4,000 action figures in it! My son (10) noticed the signs off of I35. So on our way back from Dallas to OKC, we made a tiny detour to Pauls Valley. It's really not far off of the highway and is easy to find. The admission is only $6/pp and seemed appropriate. They have a little gift shop at the front of the store with shirts, hats, etc. They gave the kids Scavenger Hunt sheet and that was extra fun for them. At the end they had a little prize for them at the end. It's truly unbelievable the amount of stuff in this place! I can't imagine how long it took to accumulate it. Every inch of the space is covered, and they have tvs set up with shows to match the theme of the space (Wonder Woman display has Wonder Woman episodes playing, etc). And it's not just action figures~cereal boxes, underwear, anything with a superhero on it, it's there! Definitely worth the stop.
google avatar

Jana H.

Yelp
We took a quick stop in Paul's valley for lunch and decided to check out the toy museum. So glad we did definitely worth the stop! Museum was visually appealing and the collections were fun to look at for my husband and I (mid 30's) and our two boys 5 and 7. The boys enjoyed the interactive play area. We stayed for about an hour and enjoyed our time! The boys left with a souvenir comic book ($1.00) and a big smile on their face. A fun family memory!
google avatar

Sooner T.

Yelp
What a fun place! There is not a single inch of this place that was not filled with pop culture history. I spent two hours going through nearly forty years of Americana. The love of the subject is obvious and infectious. I can't recommend it highly enough.
google avatar

Alicia B.

Yelp
It was a cool place to visit. Not far off of 35. My boyfriend and I are a bit of geeks so I thought it might be cool to see some action figures. Place was definitely overflowing with every imaginable action figure =)
google avatar

Brandon R.

Yelp
This museum needs a new curator. It is a roadside attraction. I made it a few minutes ahead of closing and instead of letting me go through to at least see what they had to offer I got a rude "I have to go."
google avatar

Mary G.

Yelp
I came here to review this and am even more incensed when I read the admission prices. We were here on July 12 2016 and paid $31.02 for two seniors, two adults and one 13 year old ( adult admission I assume) and the two children were free (one infant one toddler) Does NOT add up from other's admission price in May of $4 per senior and $6 per adult. Perhaps the prices went up since then? hmm Anyhow, when we entered the museum, the person "in charge" quoted the admission fee after we asked only. It was myself and my husband (seniors) our adult daughter, her 18 year old daughter, her 13 yr old son and a toddler and an infant. And she said children under 12 were $5. As we were confirming how many adults, children etc ( going by her price quote and assuming the toddler and infant were $5 each because of what she told us) I said ok. so two seniors, 3 adults , 2 children. She accusingly reacted and said are YOU trying to tell me that the girl in the purple hair ( this was my 18 yr old granddaughter with a little light purple in her hair) is UNDER TWELVE! My husband said no.... and re-iterated how many of each.. she said OH the little ones are free.. which is not what she had previously said. I felt very insulted. My daughter picked out a couple of matchbox cars to purchase for her toddler and opened them so he could play. The lady then went through great lengths to let us know that we could not take them into the museum ... saying they might get "mixed up" with the other toys..essentially she was saying we might steal something. We co-operated and went into enjoy the museum.. the museum itself was pretty cool. That lady .. not so much. She followed us everywhere as if we were not to be trusted. We stayed awhile, enjoying the displays, my toddler grandson playing with the toys and older kids trying on costumes which were provided for just that purpose Every time we turned around the lady was standing watching us. We were not doing anything but enjoying ourselves and getting enjoyment out of what we as PAYING CUSTOMERS were entitled to.. Towards the end my daughter gave the toddler a small water cooler cone 1/2 full of water. Being two and a KID he accidentally spilled some on the floor. How did I know this? I was a couple of display over and heard HE SPILLED WATER ALLLLL OVER THE PLACE. Whereupon apparently she chastised my daughter for not WATCHING her child ( my daughter was getting a paper towel to clean up at this point Apparently she also told her to leave that room.I was on way there to do a video of the Batman display for another grandchild of mine when I heard all of this going on. I entered the Batman display area where the water was spilled.. very small amount but this lady was going through motions of clean up as if she were cleaning up after a flood. I started to do a small video and was told I needed to leave as SOMEONE spilled water and if someone fell they could get sued. Again a half a water cooler cone of water, and this was JUST A LITTLE KID. Horrible horrible treatment, and we rushed out of there NOT SPENDING anymore. We were going to drop at least another $100 in the gift shop... Very insulted
