The Best Places to Eat Key Lime Pie in the Florida Keys - AFAR

"A traditional-maker approach yields a velvety, decidedly tart filling where the lime flavor really punches through, nestled in a thick, buttery graham cracker crust and finished with decadent whipped cream. The creator sticks to a hands-on mantra—"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"—and once made a single pie large enough to serve 75 guests. These slices are sold at Marlin Food Stores in Tavernier and at the Trading Post in Islamorada." - Charlene Fang

Google
Medium sized, older, but nice corner store selling various foods and drinks. The employee working was very nice and helpful with my questions. We tried the Key Lime pie which was very good, refreshing and very sour, tart and nicely sweetened. I don't have much experience with Key Lime pie, but theirs was very good. I highly recommend buying some to take home. They have a full sized pies, smaller pies and individual slices. They also have Key Lime from the Key Lime Lady. Be aware this is a store not a restaurant, but take your pie to go!

Google
Stopped by for the chocolate dipped key lime pie slices and ended up meeting a local conch who shared some family stories from the 1935 hurricane. Their Key lime pies are delicious and happy to support a local grocery store too!

Google
A little shop selling groceries and the key lime pie, which is one of the best tasting pies I've so far tried! Not overly sweet, tangy and limey. Delicious.

Google
Yummy Key Lime pie! It’s frozen, so it’s perfect to grab on your way out of The Keys.

Google
*photos submitted and experience are from December of 2020* When I visited the keys around a year ago, I tried every key lime pie and this was the only one I enjoyed. The crust was perfectly crisp, and the filling was flavorful and smooth. It felt like the only key lime pie in the keys that didn’t cut corners. If I could ship one of these pies to NYC without it costing like $100 then I definitely would. 10/10, would definitely recommend.

Google
Always thought Kermit’s had the best key lime pie, this blows it out the water. Not too sweet and not too “limey”. The perfect key lime pie, 10/10.

First caught sight of this on Google Maps as 'Key Lime Pie Lady,' but it's actually a product that is sold at this trading post. There is also a coffee shop, burrito shop, boutiques in the same lot. They looked really good too, but I was too stuffed to get anything else. I just had some beers and tacos at Jaliscos Tacos 2 at the Florida Keys Brewing Company about a 10 minute walk across the street. Super worth it by the way! Great brewery and food truck!! So, I needed something sweet and saw this on the Googs. I really wanted a Chocolate Key Lime Pie Slice, but they were unfortunately out! So, I got the Chocolate Key Lime Bar instead. Still refreshing and had the crust mixed in so I was happy with that. Aside from my sweet tooth, this is a pretty well stocked post with ready-to-eat meals and necisities as well.

Google
This key lime pie is unbelievable!!! I can’t even put words together to describe it. I’m not exaggerating. You need to try this!!! (We bought it from the trading post and ate it in the car) We called her, and she happily told us her story. She makes the pies from scratch and it shows.

Yelp
They have the best key lime ice cream! If you like key lime pie, you will love this. Nice staff.

Yelp
They have THE BEST key lime pie. We were referred by our hosts here & must pass on this insider info! The store brand is the one to buy!! Also note but they have some fantastic art supplies and other products! Definitely worth stopping by.

MJ M.

Yelp
24 hour market with sandwiches, fried chicken, and desserts to go as well souvenirs and a good inventory of what you need for groceries.

Yelp
Patronize your local stores that survive modernization!Love all the little salads and deviled eggs you can grab and go, love the old grocery store vibe! They have everything! Their key lime pie was great. They were out of pepperoni so had to go to Publix. Bummer! The ladies at the registers were awesome! Best clean store around! Found lots of goodies inside!

Yelp
I was told this was the secret location for one of the best key lime pie around. So I am here trying it. The pie was good. I liked it. I must say that is one good pie. I like my pie on the sweet side more then tart. I liked it. The price was good too. The market is really neat and very clean. It has a little bit of everything, I noticed. I only came for one thing so I didn't check on prices. I was impressed how uniform everything was. I did notice fresh vegetables. The market had sandwiches an wraps. They looked good. I didn't see many sweet things. I did see a chocolate cake, carrot cake that looked really good and the key lime pie. If I lived near. This would be the market I would come.

Yelp
Love this little keys gem. The mini carts are my fav. Since I was a little girl it was always a fond memory. Also great way to support local businesses! Stop in, take your kids you wont regret it.

Yelp
This is a conveniently located grocery store in Islamorada that is open 24 hours a day! I didn't realize we'd reserved a hotel that had a fridge in the room, so I was excited to stash a few goodies in there since most nearby businesses seem to shut down around 9PM. This is a nice shop that reminds me of a family owned grocery store in the small town I grew up in. Everything you need to survive is there. If you need 10 different options this probably isn't the place, but if you need bagels or a sandwich this is the spot. I also DID get one of the full size key lime pies, and let me tell you at 10PM it hit the spot.

Yelp
So happy we found this little place! The grumpy/friendly guy in the back made my day. He made us some awesome sandwiches and even made me a shrimp salad sub. He makes delicious shrimp salad, by the way. He gave my dog that he named "Fido" some roast beef and made my son a yummy sub. This little store has everything you need for an awesome lunch for a day of beaching or charter fishing in the Keys. Really good, fresh food and nice people who pretend they are curmudgeons.

Yelp
We've been going to the trading post for years. Always clean and friendly and the prepared foods are outstanding. Hard to beat if you are hungry late at night or need to pick something up for the road. A great selection of sandwiches, salads, and even things like peel and eat shrimp. I bought about a half a pound of delicious shrimp salad for 6.99 and they had some very fresh looking fried chicken, four pieces, for 4.99. You'll pay more than that for four pieces of chicken at KFC. it's open 24 hours because it's right across the street from Cheeca Lodge. I'm sure they are making a killing and more power to them. I will continue to shop here for all of my incidentals after hours and great prepared foods.

Yelp
Great store for all kinds of food but I went here specifically to get a Key Lime Pie. The reviews were great and I agree completely! Great place to stop on the drive out to bring one home for friends.
google avatar

Yelp
Review only for the key lime pie: Key Lime Density 7/10 (Less dense pie) Tartness 3/10 (Less tart than average) Crust 9/10 (Nice crumbles all around the side of the pie) Extras 1/10 (No whipped cream on top) Sweetness 6/10 (Average sweetness) Overall nice with the best crumbly crust of all the pies I've sampled, very nice pie, just not as tart as some might prefer.

Yelp
24/7! need I say more. Great selections clean store. Perfectly located. And take a trip out back and check out the cool shops.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Yes! We bookmarked this as an option during our trip. The night before our charter, the boat Captain recommended we stop here to pick up sandwiches and provisions. Deli case items made fresh and they are slicing meat behind the counter in n the morning prepping sandwiches as you order. Someone in the store recommended the tuna salad and chicken salad. We tried each, I was very pleased with the chicken salad. Another person on our boat had the tuna sandwich and was very happy. The salads were a hit as well. Very convenient, fresh food and nice people.

Yelp
Hands down best secret location for key lime pie. Discovered this spot in 2009 while headed to a wedding. Really couldn't believe how amazing this spot was for the key lime pie. Don't be fooled by the exterior. If you're a key lime pie fan this place is the spot!
google avatar

Tedd S.

Yelp
When they say 24/7...they mean it! We were vacationing in Marathon over Xmas holiday, only to find ourselves stranded. Nothing was open, except Walgreens. TP has the goods! Fresh baked pastry, deserts and cookies. An awesome meat/deli counter where we got a FULL turkey dinner to go that could've fed 4 people! $11.99!! TP has everything you need, often organic or made in-house, at prices that won't kill you. LISTENING? This is my go-to grocer anytime I'm in the Keys!

Mark G.

Yelp
Second best key lime pie in the keys! Get a pie lady made fresh in islamorada from the freezer. The only better in the keys is the old town bakery in key west. Very nice little grocery store here with a great selection!
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
The Trading Post does a great job they have everything a fisherman could need or a local Shopper could need. We get our sandwiches there for our fishing trips. We order 16 sandwiches in the evening and pick them up at 6 in the morning all bags ready to go labeled they do a great job the variety Subs is almost endless they will customize them when asked for we will be back every time

Yelp
Ma & Pa type grocery store... offering most of those necessities and then some, but be forewarned, they are not known for cheap prices. Thinking of the prices makes me reminisce of back when I used to stop here quit often on my travels between Key West and the main land. You see, the prices were not much of a concern to me back in the day, not because I was bathing in cash but because their prices were fair and competitive to other stores (maybe a little costlier but not excessively so). I used to grab their prepared wraps, which were average size but then over time the prices creeped up to $6.99 but managed to get unimpressively smaller. Recently I was excited when I jumped in and was happy to see the cost came back to earth at $4.59... but then I gasped because I realized it's now *half* of a small wrap. I'm no mathematician but pretty sure that's more than $9 for a teeny tiny wrap. On my last visit, I was kinda grossed out... cashier was picking and nibbling her nails. Look, I know lot's of people do it (I used to do it) but not in front of customers. After all, you're touching everyone's groceries. On a positive side, they do have a great meat counter (butcher), fresh fruits/veggies and plenty of gourmet specialty items. Nowadays, I only stop in to grab a drink and a banana or apple; Although I'll reconsider the apple to avoid nail particles and saliva contamination.
google avatar

Donna C.

Yelp
Super friendly and nice. I just wished a menu for the sandwiches was easier. I definitely enjoyed the trip though. We love supporting local!
google avatar

Gary S.

Yelp
This is the best market in the Keys! Great butcher and you will not believe the treats that you will find in this small but plentiful market. They do not have any seafood so you can go to the Islamorada fish company for that. Plenty of fresh produce and to give you an answer of the selection. They probably have 15 - 20 different mustard's. Fresh Pies are tasty and go fast. A must for people who do not want to just eat. If you have a kitchen and taste buds go to this place.
google avatar

Luke S.

Yelp
This a cute little local market that offers a lot of your favorites plus some very unique items. I stopped here on my way out of the keys for the weekend and picked up some great products. Stop in and check it out. Perfect for things you need and didn't know you needed.
google avatar

Meredith C.

Yelp
After a disappointing experience a few doors down Route 1 left us without entrees, my husband and I stopped by this local 24-hour grocery store for whatever we could find and they delivered with a smile. We purchased 1 slice of local key lime pie, 1 frozen chocolate dipped key lime pie on a stick, and 3/4 lb of cold fried chicken for under $10! The cashier was incredibly kind and gave us plasticware and napkins. Highly recommend stocking up here for any vacation necessities. They also have a deli and some small souvenirs. Not crazy resort prices!
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
Great little grocery store on the middle of the island. They're open 24/7 with pretty much anything you'll need for a week in Islamorada. Phone in your sandwich orders for a day of fishing the night before and they'll be ready for you at 6am to take out on the boat.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Love this place. Reliable. A little over priced on fresh food but what can you expect in the keys. Absolutely awesome customer service. Go to the trading post anytime I'm in the area :)
google avatar

Heather W.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches. Chartering a boat and need to bring along a lunch? This is the perfect spot. We ordered ours the night before and they had everything prepared and wrapped up for us to pick up at 6:00 am. And the sandwiches we got were so huge that we ended up sharing them with the mate. We stayed at Cheeca Lodge and this is conveniently located across from the entrance. We stopped in a couple of times for other basic groceries, snacks, and wine/beer.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
It really is a wonderful gourmet market. You come here for the meat counter. The butcher is great, as is his selection of premium meat for you; and I mean right down to the hot dogs. It is worth the drive even if you live several islands away.
google avatar

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Great little shop to buy groceries, drinks and easy meals for vacation. We love this spot - a little more expensive than the Publix but super cute and worth it to shop locally and keep the local economy going strong. Good assortment of groceries and baked goods.
google avatar

Rick H.

Yelp
What a great hidden gem! You must try some of their fresh salads, sandwiches, and meats. But, they have everything you need, are open 24 hours and have very friendly service. Heck with the chain stores, Trading Post is a Go To Place!!!
google avatar

Sparky P.

Yelp
What they said. Also (as Ms Palin might say) they are open all the time. I mean always. Can't do better for an all-night grocery, as they carry all the basics plus some fancy stuff for the models at the Moorings. But be prepared to fork over all your $; it ain't cheap being easy.
google avatar

Zane C.

Yelp
This is a gem in the Upper Keys! Fantastic steaks and other meats, cut for real grilling instead of the wafer thin stuff you see in most markets. Plenty of sauces, dairy, fresh vegetables, enough to make gourmet meals if you're staying in a place with a kitchen. Expect to pay double on most high ticket items but the quality and convenience are worth the price. Photos of some steaks we bought included.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Late one night on the ride home my BF decided he wanted key lime pie ... so we asked Ralph, our awesome taxi diver, where we could find some. Quick U-turn and here we were! Little store with gourmet type foods. In the back there were homemade key lime pies (without meringue, a necessity). Absolutely delish! Worth the stop.
google avatar

Mzz. Julia X.

Yelp
Open 24 hours, friendly older guy at the checkout, and they had mint Milano cookies for me. :) I was offered napkins and plasticware before leaving, which was very nice.
google avatar

Marcos N.

Yelp
This place is great. Small grocery but jam packed with alot. I come to the keys sometimes. And when i do come and it's early in the morning i come in for breakfast. The reason, homemade bacon egg and cheese biscuits from this place!! Gotta try it. They have alot of other stuff too.
google avatar

Todd W.

Yelp
I had two days of guided fishing out on the flats and you can call in your deli lunch order the day before and they'll have it ready for you the next day no matter how early (i picked mine up at 6:00 am). They have the typical staples you'd need for bring food out on the boat, or cooking at your rental. The only reason it didn't get the five stars was that the prices are wicked ridiculous for much of what they have. But all-in-all, it's a great place to hit up.
google avatar

Rob W.

Yelp
This store is convenient, but very overpriced. Everything is marked up beyond normal Keys high prices.
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
Nice market with all the provisions needed when on vacation. It was across the street from our expensive hotel so it was nice to save a buck within walking distance. The butcher guy was friendly and helpful. Pre-made sandwiches or made to order. Beer and wine, too. Fried chicken, mac and cheese. It was clean and reasonable priced for the keys.
google avatar

Loi M.

Yelp
It's not amazing but has staples. Unless your vegan, then not many options besides water and veggies. But in a pinch it works.
google avatar

Allison A.

Yelp
A good place to stop when you are driving through the Keys - We love to pick up the Frozen Key Lime pie dipped in chocolate on a popsicle stick - Definitely hits the spot every time!
google avatar

Alicia W.

Yelp
This is a really nice little store. They have a larger variety of things than you would think. Lots to choose from and the best part is that they are open 24 hours. They have a lot of specialty items. It is a little bit on the pricier side so if you are just going for some essentials, I would suggest going up to Key Largo to the Winn Dixie or Publix if those are open.
google avatar

Barbara R.

Yelp
In Islamorada even CVS closes at 10:00PM so we were really happy to find out that the Trading Post is open 24 hours a day. The prices are very high for certain items, so you're better off buying them at Winn Dixie, but the prepared food are reasonable and very good. We had potato salad, pasta salad and grape leaves and everything tasted home made. Nice selection of cheese and mustards and crackers, friendly employees. It's nice to shop in a family run store, every now and then.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
Stopped in to get some meat, cheese, & crackers for our fishing trip the next day. All the staff was very friendly. It's not as cheap as your Publix store but it's not meant to be, it's a specialty store with higher quality items. Also snagged a cheapie ice chest for a few bucks.
google avatar

Chris H.

Yelp
This deli is in a great location. Try the Italian sub, or order what you want to take with you out fishing the next morning and your sandwich will be ready. Tell them you want it at 6AM and it will be there- as specified! Not cheap, but nothing is in the Keys, so enjoy. Pretty decent beer selection, too.
google avatar

Jerry S.

Yelp
Stopped here to get some sandwiches for fishing trip. My buddy asked about double meat and the sandwich maker laughed and said this isn't Subway, you don't need double meat. He was not kidding! The meat was more than double Subway meat and tasted 10 times better. Great Italian!
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
This is a great grocery store. You can't find 24 hour grocery stores in Miami let alone the keys. Good section and quality produce. People are complaining about prices but its a matter of supply and demand. If you want to drive 20 miles to Publix to save money you will spend it in gas. Sometimes you have to pay more for convenience.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
Great location - open for great sandwiches you can order and then pick early for the boat. Fried chicken! Good selection of everything. Only place in islamorada for groceries.. Always kills me what you pay for beers but it's the keys!
google avatar

Jack M.

Yelp
can you say, tourist trap rip off? prices are a joke, they are open 24 hours, i guess the drunks come in there and buy stuff. i would have to be piss drunk to pay their prices. example, sliver of cake, 5 bucks. and i mean sliver. you know the slice of cake you buy at publix for 2.39? same thing only half the size and twice the price. RIP OFF!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Very good selection of what you need when you are on vacation, even if you have your own kitchen. Lots of good fresh food. but watch out, the prices are stratospheric. 1/8 of the parsley you get at Publix for $.99 is $2.59 here and the rest of the prices are proportional. If you really need it they probably have it but you are going to pay for it.
