"Relaunched in a historic building as a new boutique hotel in summer 2017, the Trafalgar St. James is (as the Brits say) bang in the middle of London, perched on Trafalgar Square. The central location overlooking Nelson’s Column and the National Gallery makes it a draw for sightseeing visitors, while the buzzy rooftop bar and underground lounge are popular meeting spots for locals. Sleep with Mick Jagger (in photo form, framed over the bed) in elegant modern guest rooms with buttery leather headboards that echo the swank booths downstairs in the Trafalgar Dining Rooms. The restaurant serves all day, from cold-pressed morning juices to a post-theatre pulled lamb burger. Make reservations for drinks and nibbles on the Rooftop, and enjoy the views of central London even during cooler months with blankets and outdoor heaters. The hotel taps into local tastemakers and influencers to curate tips and itineraries for guests."

My wife and I really enjoyed staying at the Trafalgar St. James. The hotel and rooms are so nicely decorated, nice ambiance. We had drinks more than once at the Rooftop bar and had a great meal at the Rockwell restaurant. The staff was probably the best part of our visit. Everyone we dealt with at the hotel was nice, professional and helpful. We were greeted warmly when we left the hotel and when we returned, no matter the time of day. And of course the location is great. Did not have any noise issues. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Google
Curio Collection hotels are still relatively new products to us. We’re certainly very familiar with Hilton brands, however, and this place did not disappoint. The hotel hit all the major buttons: fine service, a good clean room, and cordial staff — especially the doormen. This property also has something you can’t replicate: location, location, and location. Your steps from Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, the Tube and busses, St. James Park; and whatever isn’t right outside your door is within walking distance, even for people like us who prefer more sights and fewer strides.

I really loved staying here. The staff was very friendly. The hotel was super clean and modern. It has a nice gym to work out in with a few treadmills and weights. My steak came with free breakfast and everything was delicious. The mini bar is included for free. the beds are super comfortable, and the pillows are comfortable as well. Great water pressure in the shower and just overall a really nice room. I will definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for a big anniversary. Lovely touches in the room having advised upfront. Location is amazing, room opposite Nelson’s column 👍🏼 had a king room which was fab, looked pretty new in terms of refresh, size was great for central London, bed was huge. All the staff we met were great and very friendly, the breakfast was great, nice touches getting to choose freshly made options instead of the standard buffet options which were also available. Roof bar on the 8th was also very nice with amazing views and reasonable prices. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Google
Overall it's a very nice and modern looking hotel with a great central location. Very clean and well lit with a passionate team. The room we were given felt very homely and also felt a bit like a bunker it was great. I especially love the lifts as they give a countdown to how many seconds before they reach your floor and then a flashing alert when it's arriving. I really like that. The room service menu is fine but extremely limited and doesn't feel like true 24/7 room service. If it's not at their only restaurant then they don't have it. Their laundry service is good and came back on time if not early. They unfortunately don't have a carpark which is a big negative for us. The shower and bathroom were superb with Japanese toilets which should be a standard in UK hotels now. The staff are great and there's a lot of good amenities but we probably wouldn't stay here again due to lack of parking facilities attached to the hotel and the weird room service.

From the moment we arrived, our experience at this hotel was nothing short of exceptional. The location couldn’t be more perfect—right in the center of London with easy access to major attractions, dining, and shopping. Whether we were exploring nearby landmarks or hopping on public transport, everything was incredibly convenient. ||The service was absolutely impeccable. Every staff member we encountered was warm, professional, and eager to help. We were greeted daily by the friendliest doormen, Khalifa and Tristan. They were always available to help with a suggestion or directions. The housekeeping staff was the most attentive group I have encountered, the level of hospitality was consistent and outstanding. Michael the Concierge helped us plan our trip to the London eye and a river cruise that was a must do. ||Our room was quiet, spotless, and well-appointed with thoughtful amenities that made our stay comfortable and luxurious. Bottles of water and soda were replenished daily which was a very nice bonus. Every meal we had at the hotel restaurant was a treat and the service was top notch. ||A highlight of our stay was definitely the rooftop bar. With stunning views of the London skyline, it was the perfect spot to unwind with a cocktail after a day of sightseeing. The atmosphere was chic and vibrant, and the service was just as impressive upstairs.||As first time visitors, we are thrilled with this hotel choice. This hotel truly offers the full package—location, luxury, and service. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting London.

Went to London to experience the city and Wimbledon again. Great location, and everything else matched in terms of the service, buffet and room. The front desk staff while we were there and those I communicated with before I arrived were very helpful and professional. The breakfast buffet was great, and the rooftop deck/bar was a nice way to end a long day. Highly recommend!

We had an amazing stay at The Trafalgar. The location is unbeatable—right in central London and walking distance to Covent Garden, major attractions, shopping, and great restaurants. It made exploring the city so easy. The hotel has a stylish, upscale feel and the rooms were clean, modern, and very comfortable. Service throughout our stay was excellent—staff were friendly, attentive, and professional. One of the highlights was the breakfast. It was spectacular—plenty of variety, great quality, and beautifully presented. Well worth the price. We’ll definitely be staying here again on our next trip to London.

Yelp
Absolutely loved our stay here. The service was excellent--everyone was super friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, right in the middle of everything. We walked to Covent Garden, all the major sights, shopping, and restaurants without ever needing a cab or the tube. The hotel itself has a really swanky, modern vibe. Super clean and comfortable. But the real standout? The breakfast. Honestly one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had--totally worth it. Definitely worth the money and we'll be staying here again next time we're in London.

Yelp
We decided to stop by and go the Rockwell Bistro & Wine Bar for lunch. It's a beautiful space that gave off a sophisticated feel in the heart of London. I ordered the zucchini fritti and the bavette steak. Both were so delicious and not expensive at all. I would definitely recommend and return myself.

Yelp
We loved this hotel it's in an amazing location. If you want to do the hop on hop off bus the stop for both routes is literally in front of the hotel. The service is definitely 5 stars. Everyone that works there is amazing. The morning brunch buffet is outstanding. There fruits are so fresh they have a great assorment the avacado toast was amazing. I checked out the roof top bar that was very cool with a view of the eye.

Yelp
The service was top notch. Fantastic service from beginning to end from front staff to concierge. Specifically for Adrian, he is a rockstar and knowledgeable. Great service, above and beyond. He gave us great tips, tried to help us with a luggage issue and was always positive. The room was nice just slightly dark. The bathroom sink is flat so water doesn't always move down the drain. The hairdresser cannot be used in the restroom. Bed was super comfortable and the safe box opens like a book. Great location and quiet when we slept. Restaurant is fantastic for dinner, great tapas options and the service is also magnificent.

Yelp
When I retired from Shell and thanks to many business trips, I had over a million points and Diamond Status on Hilton. Thanks to my Hilton Aspire Credit Card, I'm still Diamond and a couple years later, I still have a lot of Hilton points. I was able to use these points to book 5 nights at the Trafalgar St. James in London. It's even a better deal as when you book 4 nights on points, the 5th night is free. Except for an irritating at most out-of-order spare elevator, this Hilton stay was stellar in all aspects: LOCATION - The Hotel is across the street from Trafalgar Square and the Charing Cross Tube and Railway Stations. It's also a short walking distance to anything in Covent Garden (including West End Theaters) and other Central London sights. ROOM - We had a nice and very roomy King Room, that was almost Junior Suite in Feel. We enjoyed spreading out, hanging out, and planning our days activities. Coffee, Cookies, and Soft Drinks were all complimentary. BREAKFAST - At the Rooftop and subject to a separate 5 Star Yelp review. We also came up for Dinner one night and had a fabulous evening out and enjoying the view. SERVICE - We got daily Housekeeping, which is still not a thing in most US Hotels post-COVID. The Front Desk folks were very professional when we asked for directions, recommendations, printing out our Fulham FC tickets, and taking a Royal Mail Delivery. Above and Beyond. If we ever come back to London, you most likely will find us here.

Yelp
We stay here when visiting London. This is located conveniently all main attractions and is walking distance to everything. Service is exceptional, checking in to walking by the front desk, everyone greets you all the time. They offer any assistance or ask if we need anything. The staff here go above and beyond and it not only ends at the front desk but the team at the restaurant and housekeeping were amazing. They are going through some renovations so there is some noise and things have been moved around. The rooftop bar is now where the breakfast area is and trust me, it was perfect! Who would complain about having an amazing view for breakfast. But the staff here, they have my heart. Everyone was so attentive and helpful especially with allergies. The day we were we leaving they offered to pack nut free croissants for my son's plane ride!! Who does that? People who truly care. I was teary eyed and my son enjoyed those on our 10hour plane ride. Breakfast has a great variety of items available. Housekeeping team were awesome. They would check in daily on us to see if we needed anything additional and if our rooms were cleaned well. In the evening we stopped by the rooftop bar for the view and was amazed how gorgeous it was. You can see the London Eye all lit up. If you need a place to stay while in London, this is your spot. Walking distance to everything and the perfect team to make you're your stay comfortable.

Yelp
I'm updating my review from 2012. I stayed here again a few nights while in London and the experience was much better . The front desk staff was very nice and we were able to check in quickly and early. As a Diamond Hilton Honors member they looked for an upgrade for me but didn't have anything but I did get two drink vouchers (although it was just for a basic glass of house wine or a beer or spirit with mixer, no cocktails!). The room was nice and comfortable, although pillows were strangely flat. I loved the shower and bath products. They smelled really good and made my skin feel great. We had an interior room on a low floor that looked onto an alley/courtyard so I was kind of bummed about the lack of a view but I grew to appreciate it because the room was dark and quiet and I slept amazingly well. Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was great. The restaurant (Rockwell) was lovely and the buffet was very nice, although they seemed to be short of scrambled eggs. One final positive note, the location here is great. You're so close to Piccadilly Circus, West End theaters, Leicester Square, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, etc. Transit options nearby are wonderful. We were able to zip everywhere around London on the Tube and it was always easy to spot a bus headed to Trafalgar Square that would take us back to the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I stayed here in November of 2023. What an excellent hotel- I slept so good! The staff was friendly and the location made it even better. Very walking distance to tourist attractions, the tube, coffee shops, etc. I would hands down stay here again, it was a perfect home base during my visit.

Yelp
We stayed here in 2019. This is a very nice hotel. I subtracted a star because it was under construction when we stayed and I felt the price was too high in consideration of that. The location is in Trafalgar Square, and some rooms have a view of it but ours didn't. The National Gallery is just across the street and there is a tube station very nearby. The service is unmatched, however. I have never stayed in a place where the staff were more accommodating or polite. The first night we were there we enjoyed a drink at the bar and then they began construction on that area literally the next day, which was disappointing. The rooftop restaurant has incredible views. You can see the London eye which was pretty cool. The food was pretty good, not the best but good. I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
LOVED our stay here. The hotel is beautiful, clean, in an excellent location and with outstanding employees. Our room was on the 3rd floor and faced the buildings next door. There was plenty of room and closet space. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and probably one of my favorite parts of the hotel. We had breakfast daily in the restaurant downstairs. There was a huge variety and outstanding service. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and found that the pricing was appropriate and same excellent food and service. The location was a favorite part. We could walk the mall to Buckingham Palace and the gardens. There were so many restaurant options nearby. The Trafalgar Square was literally right outside our door along with a tube station. Around another corner you could see Big Ben and the London Eye. We never made it to the Rooftop Lounge. It was a $50 per person minimum and $200 for our family of 4 to be on the rooftop seemed a bit steep. Can't recommend it enough - loved this place.

Yelp
Excellent service and during our stay we received a half dozen macaroons as a welcome gift! Walk in shower was my fav and "Mick" hovering over my head was cute! Bed was comfortable but pillows were exceedingly soft it did not provide any support to my neck was my only complaint! Rooftop bar has an amazing view of the city although the wines were not that good, probably should have opted for cocktails...

Yelp
So far a fantastic stay here at the St. James at Trafalgar Square. It is so centrally located to everything in London. It is also just a 12 minute walk from Piccadilly Circus. I wanted to say thanks to the staff. They are warm and inviting. Cheers !!

Yelp
Excellent location in the heart of London! The staff was fantastic- helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I reserved with my Amex Platinum and I didn't receive the upgrade amenities I stayed for 3 nights. And I was surprised to receive macaroons on the last night of my stay but the welcome letter was addressed to someone else ( oh well at least they tried!) The rooftop bar was a great place to see London. Highly recommend!

Yelp
DONOT STAY HERE EVEN FOR $10 A NIGHT UNTIL CONSTRUCTION IS 100% COMPLETE . They undermine the work and say it's light construction but there is major demolition and chipping hammers going. You cannot sleep or even be in the hotel from 9am - 4pm. The management was not considerate to the guests discomfort. 1 elevator is broken, long waits for elevator, fans going on in hallways you've been warned , I was there in July 2024 this construction will probably last 1 year

Yelp
Best dirty gin martini I've ever had! You walk in and it oozes opulence. Elegant, modern, vibes with a gorgeous bar. The gin selection is fantastic and I was completely blown away. I started out with a gin and tonic and talked to a very friendly bartender. I told him how much I love dirty gin martinis and he proceeded to make me the best one I've had in my life. He took several olives and muddled them super fine and served it so cold. I just marveled at the very green hued, glacial drink in front of me for a second. It was clean, crisp, briny, and everything you would think a dirty martini should be. Mind blown.

Yelp
This hotel is super nice! Recommend it! Very clean! The employees are very attentive! Housekeeping is awesome! My room was always clean and they always asked if we needed anything. Must go up to the rooftop, beautiful views!

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights last week, and had the most perfect stay! Location: the location was perfect! I could see Trafalgar Square from my window. All of the main tourist attractions were within a walking distance. The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben were a 10 minute walk south of the hotel. Leicester Square and China Town were extremely close, Covent Garden a 10 minute walk, and Oxford Street/Piccadilly Circus a 15 minute walk. I didn't have to take the tube/Uber once during my stay, it was amazing. Staff: the staff were super friendly and accommodating. They were very helpful in answering any questions and made sure we had everything we need. They held our bags for us on our last day so we didn't have to drag them around while we spent the day seeing all the sights. Breakfast: the breakfast was wonderful! They had so many options, and the food was constantly being refilled and replaced with fresh food. One of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had, thoroughly enjoyed it. Room: the room was spacious for a London hotel! And the BED... the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever stayed in! It was a dream, I didn't want to leave it! The bathroom was also lovely, with a huge bathtub and great shower. Hotel bar/restaurant: although I didn't eat any food at the hotel's restaurant, we went up there for drinks on one of the nights. The bar is on the rooftop of the hotel and has amazing views of the city. It's very atmospheric and has a Northern Lights/ski theme which was fun. The drinks were PRICEY but expected of London. I will note that it was possibly the best Mai Tai I've ever had. Overall, I had an extremely enjoyable stay and would definitely come back again!

Yelp
Location- perfect for walking to most major tourist, shopping, sightseeing areas. Close to food and supplies. Close to transportation options. Sometimes in the evenings there are drunks across the street in the square but fewer than most of the areas we walked through. Comfort- beds and pillows were comfortable. AC and heater were questionable but the weather was perfect so didn't need to rely on that. Staff- all very super friendly and available. Any time we called for anything to the room, it came within minutes. One minor snafu was scheduling a shuttle to the airport and the guy wrote down the wrong time and then said he didn't, but it worked out just fine anyway so aside from that one little thing I think the staff was excellent. Food- we had breakfast every morning at the restaurant and the options were good and tasty and fresh. Overall- we love this place and would stay there again if we went to London

Yelp
The biggest reason not to say here is -- despite some major renovation a few years back -- they somehow do not have functional air conditioning. I "got" to stay here on the hottest day of the year when the lobby and the main restaurant and lobby bar all had no air conditioning -- and not just for that one day but for the 5 days of my trip. If you read TripAdvisor you'll see that the air conditioning here is a constant problem and when it doesn't work on the main floor you basically lose: a functional restaurant, a functional bar, and a functional lobby (where you might have wanted to meet colleagues). Poof. All gone. You may as well be at a bed & breakfast and not at a major hotel. Other reasons not to say here: (1) the lobby is now a tiny, crowded joke, (2) the front desk is incompetent, (3) the hallways are dark, (4) the rooms are dark and small (the Tralfagar King was at least), (5) they don't seem to care one iota if you're a Hilton Diamond member (e.g., never offered even a modest 25 square foot upgrade despite certain availability), (6) that great rooftop bar periodically gets rented out to private parties so you may not get to use it when you're here. This place was far better when it was the good old Trafalgar Hotel by Hilton. Tarting it up to be the Curio Something, Trafalgar Saint James simply resulted in destroying what once was a great lobby and lobby bar, darkening the place in general, putting pictures of Mick Jagger everywhere, and replacing what was once a great staff with incompetents -- all without fixing the air conditioning.

Yelp
On September 6th, after a long and tiring flight from Denver, CO to London, my husband and I finally arrived at the St. James Trafalgar hotel only to discover an issue with our reservation. As frustrating as this was, we couldn't be more pleased with how the friendly, courteous and helpful staff worked to help us resolve the situation. That alone set the tone for an amazing stay for our first time visiting London, which is why we are going to be booking another stay at this hotel in 2024. For anyone visiting London for the first time, I strongly suggest staying at this hotel. The rooms are clean and have everything you need to be comfortable. I will say that the only little issue we had was that our room faced the construction of another building, so having the curtains opened was not ideal; however, in the grand scheme of things you're really not in your room that much for it to be an issue. I'm sure if we had asked, we could've been moved to another room but we decided it was not important enough to go through having to pack and move. The biggest positive for us is, besides being across from the famous Trafalgar Square, we were within walking distance to many places of interest as well as restaurants and the theater if you'd like to take in a show, which we did. If you need to know which direction to go, or have suggestions given as to the best places to go, the staff of this hotel is very helpful. They will even arrange for a cab if need be. Thank you to the staff of the St James Trafalgar, especially for the doorman whose name we forgot to get, for making our first time visit to London one that we will always treasure and we cannot wait to see you all again in 2024. Best regards. Elizabeth and Stephen Kligge

Yelp
By far the best hotel we have stayed at in quite a while. We were traveling with our two young kids (9yo and 4yo) and the staff could not have been more accommodating. From the moment we walked in until the moment we checked out the experience was consistently 5 stars. The room is spacious, the bathroom is elegant and perfect, and the breakfast is delicious. The location is perfect for those doing a lot of sightseeing or who enjoy leisurely walks on the mall to Buckingham Palace. However, it was the staff's hospitality that really put the experience over the top. We stayed in many different hotels during our trip and our stay the St. James stood out to all of us as by the far the best.

Sopla R.

Yelp
Great location and nicer hotel. Comfy bed and plenty of space in the room for sitting which was a plus! Staff was pleasant and zero complaints!

Korrine C.

Yelp
This hotel is in a great location on Trafalgar Square, although it is in somewhat of a busy area, the rooms were very quiet and peaceful. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to a lot of main attractions such as big ben, Buckingham palace, Picadilly square etc. Upon entering the lobby you immediately know it is going to be a great stay, it smells so good! The staff are all friendly and accommodating. They will help you with plans, recommendations, booking taxis/transportation and even making reservations for you. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious as well. Everything was very clean. They provide slippers and robes in the room. We really enjoyed the coffee and tea in the room and used it daily. They have a full restaurant and bar on the ground level as well as a rooftop bar which serves small plates. The views were stunning on the rooftop and definitely recommend going up there. It is somewhat small, we were able to get a seat for drinks but I would recommend making a reservation ahead of time if possible. We had the sangria which was delicious. I would stay here again.

Yelp
We were walking around the area and looked for somewhere to eat that wasn't another pub. This looked like a classy establishment. It was mid-afternoon, so it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away, but service was slow. We shared a few dishes: Spiced Nuts, Hummus, Tuna Tartare and a Chopped Chicken Salad. The nuts were good, the other dishes were unimpressive.

Yelp
Very nice and central hotel in London close to everything. Marketed as 5-star, I think 4 would be more appropriate. The overall appearance is beautiful, the rooms are clean and modern, but the hallway could be more refreshed, the room service more prompt. And while the equipment in the gym is modern, it is quite limited. There is a nice entry level restaurant (which offers a wonderful breakfast buffet) as well as the roof top bar with gorgeous view of the city. Best unquestionably is the location right at Trafalgar square, easily reachable with Heathrow Express to Paddington and the Bakerloo line to Charring Cross.

Yelp
I'm so glad that I decided to pay more for a hotel and chose the Trafalgar St. James. The room was clean and very modern. The walk in shower was push to start! I've never seen that before lol. Complimentary drinks/snacks are provided in the refrigerator. You can drink/eat them all each day and they'll be restocked the next. I chose a room/breakfast package that was a great value! It was a full English breakfast buffet with a variety of pastries, charcuterie and the best plain yogurt ever. The rooftop is the cutest and has the most amazing view of the city. I ordered room service one night and must say I had the best fish and chips ever! The streets were blocked off due to a race on the day we were scheduled to leave. The concierge arranged for us a limo and walked us/pulled our luggage to our pickup point. We walked several blocks, so were most appreciative of him handling our bags. I wish I could say I didn't have a single complaint, but there were a couple gnats in our room. Thankfully we didn't see them until the last day, but that's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
google avatar

Sean G.

Yelp
Almost a 5. The only issue is the diffuser in the room which we moved, not a fan of artificial scent in a bedroom. Checkin and out painless and the staff were friendly. The room was spacious and spotless. The room rate we paid was expensive over 230 per night but the location is perfect with easy access of bus and tube plus walking distance to many sights

Yelp
Lovely historic property that's kept its roots but added the Hilton standards and service quality. This was our second time here and continued to enjoy our stay. Service is consistently great and love the mini fridge amenities refreshed daily, what a great addition! Only caveat would be the pull from Concierge. Understandably this is not a 5-star luxury property, but it would be helpful to have concierge with more pull with restaurants and exclusive entries. When we stayed at the Intercon Park Lane, Concierge made magic happen. Also, our Housekeeper kept refilling/adding more bottles of toiletries, even though we didn't use them. By the end of a 3 night stay we had 11 bottles sitting on our bathroom counter - wasteful!

Yelp
Very torn between a 3 and a 4 star on this one. The hotel is beautiful and has some great highlights, but for the money it's far from a prime choice in the city. The breakfast (and food and drink overall) is quite poor and more on par with a 3 star hotel, yet the cost for such things is along that if a 5-star (note this is a 5-star hotel). Quality and selection is quite bad (consistently so), yet the ambiance and decor is simply amazing. Feels weird eating cold processed scrambled egg and stale cheese in such a setting. The rooms are a highlight, however, as they are nicely soundproofed and polished. Not much storage, or room, but alas this IS London. The vibe is odd... not unfriendly but more 'fake polished' - think nice to you but not really happy. Quite stingy as well (room upgrades for diamond are quite rare as an example) Location is great though, just don't come with high tastes for treatment and quality of product.

Yelp
This is one of worst/smallest hilton hotels I've stayed at. I usually stay at Hilton hotels when I travel and am very disappointed in this one. It was my first time in London, the hotel was hard to find because there was no sign outside. I had to ask the staff, and they carried my suitcase. The reception was very small, and overall the hotel was so tiny. I arrived here a little before 3pm, and they told me that the system crushed, so they couldn't check me in. I had to walk around the city for at least half an hour before I was able to get a room. I asked for a map, and concierge gave it to me, but he didn't tell me any tourist spots. He wasn't nice either. No smile. I came came an hour later, and they were able to check me in. The check in process was slow and inefficient. My room was on the fourth floor and facing the other building. It was small that the tv wasn't facing the bed. Breakfast was okay. The selections were limited, but they had basic breakfast options as well as English breakfast. The service wasn't great, and the price wasn't cheap. It wasn't definitely worth the price. I stayed in London for two nights and was so glad I decided to get different hotel the next night. I won't come back here.

Yelp
Great location for sightseeing. Rooftop is pretty cool. Pricey. Service was apathetic and as a lifetime diamond member of the hhonors program I was given a tiny room and no offer of upgrade.... So, meh.

Yelp
We went to the roof top and Ashely the manager was so nice and made sure we enjoyed our stay. Such an awesome experience.

Yelp
I've read a number of the reviews and disagree with the majority of negative reviews. We are seasoned travelers around the world and the Trafalgar St James lives up to Hilton Curio status. While we didn't dine or drink at Rockwell's, we did enjoy the rooftop as well as 8 nights at the hotel. Pros: Location - in a convenient location close to everything. For being across from Trafalgar Square, we didn't hear a single peep and our room faced the square! We dropped into the Admiralty Pub next door almost daily, great food and drink selection. Facilities - well decorated, mix of modern with traditional. Some say it's "dark". Well that is likely by design! Lobby is smaller but I frankly don't ever hang out in hotel lobbies. Go into Rockwell's, plenty of room! Room - well appointed, usb chargers, plenty of room for a central London hotel, bed was comfortable and linens top quality. The bathroom was equally as nice with high quality towels and Molton Brown products. Also had a Nespresso in the room! Staff - incredibly attentive and professional. Concierge took care of a few minor requests that made us feel like VIPs. Received personal letters ensuring our needs were met. Nice touch. While our room wasn't immediately available they looked after our luggage which was in our room once we were able to get in. Cons: None, more "caution:" - Rooftop is crowded and hard to get into, make reservations and request the side facing the eye, better view. - You are in central London across from Trafalgar Square, it's going to be crowded, there are going to be tourists, you may see people protesting, you will see homeless and pan handlers, the hotel doesn't allow nonsense so you won't have it at the hotel. Overall very high marks and recommended. We will seek to stay here in future, the staff made our stay.

Yelp
Great hotel, everyone was nice and friendly. The rooftop is closed on Mondays and Tuesday in the winter because it's slow, such a shame I couldn't go. Went to the lobby bar and it took them awhile to fix me a bourbon sour, but when it came it was delicious and looked beautiful. Extremely pricey though, gratuity is included and it was £15.75.

Yelp
I decided to stay at Trafalgar St. James during my first ever visit to London. We were kindly greeted after entering the lobby. Our room was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated. We had a nice view of Trafalgar Square from our window. The rooftop has amazing views of the area (restaurant on top floor as well). I loved the location of this hotel. There are a lot of restaurants, shops, and attractions within walking distance. The customer service was excellent (all levels of staff). I didnt know what to expect choosing to stay at Trafalgar St. James but I was very happy with my choice. If you're looking to stay near Trafalgar Square, Trafalgar St James is an excellent choice IMO.

Yelp
I must give this hotel full score. It is beautifully decorated. Check in was smooth and superfast. Staff at frontdesk and "bellboys" is superfriendly all the time. Being HH Gold we got upgraded per request and it was a beautiful and classy room, I especially appreciated the few steps that gave the room an extra touch. Breakfast was nice.

Yelp
My wife and I absolutely loved this hotel! We're big fans of Curio properties and this one really hits the mark. The Trafalgar St. James blends luxury with down-to-earth attitude and presentation. Rooms are nicely appointed with a reasonable size - a little bigger than you might expect for London - and luxurious bathrooms. The staff was very friendly and outgoing. This is a great place to stay if you're looking for luxury surroundings without a stuffy attitude. The concierge team was as you'd expect: helpful and informative. They answered a bunch of questions for us and handled a few bookings for dinners and got us excellent seats for a show. Easy stuff but harder for us since we're international and were trying to go easy to data and phone usage. Breakfast was excellent - a very good value, especially if you get it included with your rate/status benefits; a nice, varied spread of meats, cheeses, pastries, yogurts and cereals. The rooftop bar and restaurant was also enjoyable; good views of the London skyline, inventive cocktails and a good prix fixe menu. The location is terrific - right across from Trafalgar Square but not too loud inside. Easy access to Charing Cross station, and not too bad a walk to Piccadilly Circus for other Tube options. It's also a very easy walk to Buckingham Palace and St. James park. All in all, we could not have asked for a better experience. It's fun, it's quirky, it's luxurious, it's friendly. We were very happy and would absolutely stay there again. We didn't bring the kids this time but I would be OK doing that as well.

Yelp
Disappointing hotel, but it's in a convenient location. Before booking, I emailed the concierge twice to ask about in-room coffee and tea and distance to the nearby gym--the website was vague about both, and they're a big part of my feeling at home when I travel for work. (Turns out coffee and tea were included in my room, but I never learned about the gym.) Never got a reply. Ironically, after I made a reservation, I received a form email encouraging me to contact the concierge (at the same address I had written) if I had any questions. The irony. The hotel room was dirty and dingy. The furniture was distressed, there was makeup on my shower curtain and mold on the bathroom ceiling, the tub wouldn't drain without the fixture completely removed, and the room was stuffy with tomblike windows. There were loud noises from renovations between approximately 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The wifi was incredibly slow and unsuitable for Skype or real work. Beyond failing to respond to emails, the service disappointed in other respects. Housekeeping came by after my redeye flight--I was about to nap--so they could restock the contents of my minibar, which had been depleted by the previous guest. The porter insisted on carrying my rollaway... I had deliberately chosen not to stay at the In & Out Club so I wouldn't feel harassed by unnecessary service. The concierge/floor staff, however, strangely didn't know general directions to nearby landmarks (e.g., Royal Society, Chatham House), and one was checking people in with a florid respiratory infection. I would not stay here again.

Yelp
Last night, I went to this really fabulous party at The Trafalgar Hotel for World of Wonder Productions. I tapped myself into my dress and dolled myself up! "The Beautiful People" is right. I rubbed elbows on the roof-top terrace on the 6Th Floor of the Trafalgar. I don't smoke, only in a "fake" way, but I stood outside in the open air bit for a while and looked down at Trafalgar square and all the bright lights. It was a great view from the 6th floor. The inside patio was warm and well lit with comfortable couches and The World of Wonder Ice Sculpture poured vodka. There was an open bar with all sorts of drinks and nibbles served by waiters in suit jackets It was an amazing party put on by amazing friends. You'll love to host your event at the Trafalgar. It is decedent.

Yelp
A hotel review is really a hybrid of the essentials of your stay (location, room, staff, common areas), but often it can be colored by one thing that interrupts the ease of your stay. I stayed at The Trafalgar Hotel for a week while in London for work and found the most important hotel traits to be excellent. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful, from the doormen to the concierge to the front desk staff, everyone was willing to help. I thought the rooms were beautiful. I like minimalism and if you don't, you may not be as taken with the rooms as I was, but they were large and well laid out. The bed was extremely comfortable and there was a full desk and small table as well. The view from my room was great, out into the city and although I am no expert on this area, the location seemed perfectly suited for walking everywhere and being able to easily get to a wide variety of amenities in a short time. Although this is a Hilton property, it does not have that feel. It feels more like a boutique hotel and if you can get a good deal here, your stay will certainly be worth it. The downside for me was the bar area and the downstairs cafe. I found them both lacking in true function and felt like the bar was too present upon entry, but in the end for me, my stay revolves around the location of the hotel, the comfort of the room and the helpfulness of the staff and in those categories, this hotel was great.

Yelp
You can't really beat the location of this hotel. Right in Trafalgar Sq. with easy access to underground, theatre district, and loads of attractions. Front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, in particular Polly who checked us in. We arrived early around noon and she was able to get into one room right away so we could deposit bags and wash-up. We had three rooms, two were ok and in need of some updating as other have mentioned. Carpeting a bit dirty and fraying, etc.. As a Hilton Honor Gold you get free breakfast which is a really nice spread. The morning breakfast staff is super helpful, especially Huma & Hristina (sp.?). The hotel loses a star because the internet is awful. I mean really terrible, trying to check-in for a flight took over 40 minutes. Felt like i was trying to use dial-in. Forget about Netflix or anything that would require high speed.

Yelp
We were taking a Baltic Cruise with the grandkids and decided a few days in London was the perfect way to start this trip. After some searching (you wold be amazed how you CANNOT get rooms for 4 people in London...3 people fine, but not 4), we found The Trafalgar Hotel. Bonus that is was a Hilton property (we're HH members). We caught a taxi from Heathrow and got there rather quickly. Check-in was a breeze and the staff are super friendly. We got there a tick early, but our room was ready and we were able to drop our things off freshen up and head out for some adventure. The odd thing we noticed was the lighting in the elevator and hallways. We are all for mood lighting, but the dome light in our car is brighter than these were. It was actually difficult to see some things (of course you can see the doorways and such, but if you were trying to get your key out and figure out which way it slides in - it could be a challenge). We found it best to be prepared for this by having our keys in hand before getting on the elevator. The rooms themsleves were clean, albeit a bit worn. The beds were firm and clean, although I think they were using queen sheets on twin beds - I had to pull out feet of material from under the mattress to be able to get into bed. The rooms are kept a tad warm until you set them to your preference and it takes a while for the room to cool off (if that is your selection), but once set, they hold like no one's business. The breakfast is certainly a keeper. You have hot and cold buffet selections as well as a menu option. The food and selection are great, but the service staff is clueless. They will help seat you, but that is about it. One fellow came by to ask if we wanted coffee, then disappeared for about 10 minutes, only to reappear and start busing other tables. I had to ask 2 more people for the same coffee he had asked me about earlier. We actually almost finished our meal before we got coffee. While this was morning one, morning two didn't fare any better. Again, the food was outstanding, but we were sort of left on our own as far as service. But with a price of "included", I tend to overlook lousey service as long as the food is good and I can get my own. Since dining options do not seem to be part of the standard booking, it isn't fair to be included in the rating, but I wanted to list some issues here to be fair. The location is superb. Within walking distance to Charing Cross, Embankment and Picadilly Circus, you can't go wrong! Or just wander around a bit, like we did. All in all, a fantastic hotel with a great location. Their foodservice needs some work, but not enough of an issue to not stay again. When we are back in London, we will certainly look to book the Trafalgar again.

Yelp
I must have spent two weeks trying figure out how to celebrate New Year's in style and make the evening fun for two adults, a fourteen year old and a twenty year old. For the parents, no really issue, but how to make New Year's fun for a twenty year old when you can't get into any 18+ parties. I finally stumbled upon The Trafalgar Hotel's Rockwell Pop Party. It was the ONLY party that would allow anyone under the age of 18. BIG BONUS that it sits right on Trafalgar Square. This is one of the big gathering areas on New Year's Eve. In the old days, the last time I was in London on New Year's Eve, it was THE place to be. Now that the fireworks are centered around The London Eye, most people crowd the area round Westminster. Still Trafalgar has views of The Clock Tower and therefore the fireworks. They also have large jumbotrons that afford the thousands and thousands of people to see the show. One option is to steal yourself and stand with 250,000 other people for nearly ten hours holding a spot in one of the viewing areas or you can open your wallet and attend one of the many parties that has an unfettered view of the show. The Trafalgar has a rooftop bar called the Vista which looks right down on Trafalgar and has a perfect view of The Eye. It wasn't cheap, but for the price of the party, we had a bottle of champagne, dessert, access to the Vista for the fireworks and a really fun party and dancing until 3AM. What really made the evening even more pleasant was they didn't oversell the event. There was plenty of room on the roof for everyone to comfortably move around and see the fireworks. After having watched the show posted by the BBC on YouTube, I'm only disappointed we couldn't hear the music they played to sync up with the over eleven minute show which even included Pink Floyd's "Breathe". Well organized event, lovely modern decor, friendly service and we had the ability to go in and out of the party so we could walk around Trafalgar Square and celebrate with the rest of London before going back inside to watch the show. We didn't stay there, but as it is a boutique property of the Hilton, I would imagine from the service we experienced, it's a similarly lovely place to stay.

Yelp
I wish I could give this hotel more than 5 stars!!! The Trafalgar Hilton is, hands down, one of the best hotels that I've ever stayed at. I travel quite frequently for business and pleasure, and I can assure you that the Trafalgar is definitely top notch. Everything about my stay was perfect. From the minute I walked into the hotel I was impressed. This is not your typical Hilton - it's more of a boutique hotel with a chic/cosmopolitan feel. All of the décor is super cosmopolitan and the mood lights in the elevators even change colors. Front Desk/Hotel Reception: The receptionists are extremely professional, friendly, and accommodating. The receptionist that assisted me with checking in informed me of all the amenities of the hotel as well as the location of the restaurant, bar, gym, etc. She did an extremely thorough job of letting me know the "ins and outs" of the hotel, and she did so with a genuine, friendly demeanor and smile. Guestrooms: The guestroom that I stayed in was absolutely wonderful. It was extremely spacious, modern, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom was huge and stocked with a variety of spa toiletries. The room had a sitting area, flat screen TV, and other necessities such as a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, fridge, minibar, safe, and robe/slippers. Bar: The hotel rooftop bar, Vista, was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Vista has the best views of London! The whole rooftop area is open/exposed, so when there's bad weather the area temporarily closes. Unfortunately, I only stayed at the hotel one night, and the evening I arrived it was raining. The staff at Vista, however, allowed me to enter the bar and take pictures even though the actual bar was closed. Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel was very good. They offer continental breakfast items, hot breakfast items, cooked-to-order items, and even have a juice bar! Other: The hotel is within walking distance to Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, the London Eye, Soho, and much, much more! Charing Cross station as well as a couple of other tube stations are within walking distance. Hilton HHonors: I try to stay at Hilton properties quite often, and because of that I'm a Gold HHonors Member. Because of my HHonors status I was brought a VIP gift of fruit, wine, and two bottles of water in addition to receiving my standard Gold HHonors benefits. The Trafalgar really knows how to treat its customers, and when I return to London I will definitely stay here again!

Yelp
There are neon lights strobing in the elevators. I stayed at the Trafalgar over the summer while in London to attend a movie premiere. I appreciated its unassuming exterior, polite and efficient staff, and minimalist room design. But, I think the overly trendy Swedish minimalist lobby bar will fade in a couple of years. And, be prepared for your room to be unavailable when you arrive, and once you have secured it, expect it to be very warm. The beds were both firm and plush, with crisp white linen sheets and light down comforters. Though our room only afforded a view of the impeccably clean alley, some have Trafalgar Square as part of their vista. And, I loved the tall European tub, celadon tiles, and myriad looking glasses that rendered my bathroom a luxurious spa. Delicious Indian hors d'oeuvres are available at the rooftop terrace bar, which keeps somewhat erratic hours, and we enjoyed ordering decent room service at all hours. The breakfast bar contains a great variety of foods, including cured meats, cheeses, cereals, and pastries, but is not remarkable for its freshness or keen flavors. Recommended, but not as an outstanding luxury hotel.

Yelp
Great location, great hotel. Definitely one of the better Hilton hotels. The staff is super friendly. The rooftop bar is great for a long day of sightseeing.

Yelp
Customer service terrible. Concierge not helpful - does not respond in a timely manner. Or rather, at all. The hotel staff didn't seem as if they were eager to help with any sort of day planning trips. Not a good experience.

Yelp
A great boutique hotel located in the center of it all. It's literally across the street from Trafalgar Square and within walking distance to the National Portrait Gallery, St. Martin in the Fields, Piccadilly Circus, the theatre district, tube stations, and yummy restaurants. The rooms are your typical minimalist European hotel rooms, but you're in London. How much time are you going to waste in your hotel room? The staff is always friendly and helpful. However, the concierge Sam (not sure if he's still there) is AMAZING! Just went out of his way to be of service, really had great tips on eats and things to do, and was super. If you're Hilton Honors member, you get complimentary breakfast (which helps out our wimpy dollar) when you're travelling with kids. Also, they have connecting rooms just in case you decide you need some time away from the kiddies. We've stayed here several times and is our go-to whenever we are fortunate enough to be in London.
