Excellent service made this stay stress-free! I had an issue with Booking.com and both Heather and Ashley were so accommodating while we worked to resolve the issue. There was no hassle and we were able to enjoy our time with family and friends! The only recommendation I have is to consider less firm mattresses and upgrading the beds to king size. To be fair I am not sure of the size options or mattress firmness in any of the other rooms. Location is perfect for shopping, walking, and local eats. Breakfast and wine reception was a welcome treat and the Beach Club benefit on Nags Head was a welcome bonus. We highly recommend you consider staying at the Tranquil House Inn in Manteo!

My husband and I booked this inn for a little weekend getaway. We had no idea that there was a concert one of the nights, which made parking a little more difficult. However, the staff worked to make it work out and were excellent. Shout out to Mary for being super helpful and also answering all our questions! The rooms were very clean and spacious. (We had a king premium room). Our room was on the second floor and overlooked the bay. Incredible! It was so cozy and serene. Breakfast was simple, but sufficient and the views there are also beautiful. Would absolutely come back when possible. Check out the pictures for more!

Loved this place. We were greeted daily by the staff. They had plenty of suggestions regarding places to visit, and restaurants to eat at. We felt like family. The breakfast provided was simple, but adequate, and an easy way to start each day. The location was an easy walk to shops and Festival Island. Loved looking out the windows at the boats and the island on one side, and the village on the other. It was, for us, a beautiful vacation area.

We enjoyed our stay and the convenience of the location for day trip exploring. The TranquilHouseInn is charming. Daily breakfast was just enough and dinner was delicious. We stayed in room #13 which was convenient for evening walks along the pier. Would suggest adding some hooks in the bathroom as well as consider some kind of small table to hold essentials while showering. As with most hotels, please replace/refresh the pillows and perhaps a note about the process to request daily fresh towels. The parking lot flooded during the heavy rain so we adjusted by parking on the street. We look forward to visiting OBX again.

This was the perfect place for our weekend girls trip! The staff were so warm and welcoming! We enjoyed the waterfront location that is walkable to all of the shops and restaurants in Manteo. We loved the daily breakfast and happy hour! The restaurant, 1587, was excellent and so convenient. We also enjoyed the access to Village Beach Club and riding the bikes along the waterfront in Manteo. We can’t wait to return! This was such a great value and fantastic experience!

Stayed for 1 night in a suite. On arrival complimentary cheese, biscuits and wine was waiting for. We had it outside on the veranda overlooking the marina. Suite was excellent, comfortable bed, tea, coffee and water provided. We had a walk around town, had excellent dinner in the onsite 1587 restaurant, very busy, make sure you book. Continental breakfast was excellent in the morning. Highly recommended

Google
The Tranquil Inn is an adorable place to stay in the heart of Manteo! The customer service from the staff is TOP NOTCH! Communication before, during and after our trip was stellar. The rooms are spacious and clean and we could walk to all of the waterfront shops as well as Roanoke Island. I can't say enough about the staff, very attentive and welcoming. Will definitely be booking more trips to Manteo and the Tranquil House Inn.

Great place to stay in an excellent location. Room interiors have been recently updated and are comfortable and elevated. Mary at the front desk made us all feel so welcome. Lovely continental breakfast, easy to walk to everything downtown. First time visiting and we will certainly be back.

Yelp
Awesome gem of a hotel! Fantastic service, comfortable bed and memorable experience. Right by the boats and docks and cool shops around. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Went on a Mother-Daughter retreat during the off-season in Manteo. Here are the pros/cons... Yes, I would recommend the place for it's architectural charm and location right off the marina. The rooms were pretty comfortable, and the continental breakfast with homemade blueberry muffins were delicious. Downside, there was still renovation activity going on in the rooms nearby. Plus, the mini fridges had not been installed yet so no way to keep our leftovers cool. In the end, the staff was super friendly and ready to assist... and the check in/out was a breeze.

Yelp
I enjoyed my stay here. The rooms were nice and clean. The bed was so comfy. The only negatives were that it was a bit hot in my room and there were a few ants. The location was terrific. I really enjoyed it.

Yelp
I've stayed here a few times and I really enjoyed every visit. Even though the rooms are not brand new, they have a cute and cozy charm. The bed was quite comfortable and the room has cute decorations. I didn't hear any outside noise, which helped with a great night's sleep. I loved the wine, cheese, and crackers happy hour in the evenings. That was a nice little perk. Also, the location is so pretty overlooking the Bay. There are Adirondack chairs available to sit and watch the view. Breakfast is included in the price, which I thought was a great value. There were sausage biscuits that are kept in the oven and you just ask the attendant when you're ready for some. There was also a nice selection of fruit, cereal, oatmeal, pastries, etc. The coffee was not wonderful and we ended up getting coffee right across the street. All the employees were super friendly and happy to answer any of my questions. I would gladly stay here again in the future!

Yelp
This is a great place to spend $ 250.00, no one in site in a 3 story building and not have a thing to drink out of. The Tranquil House is right out of a horror movie, I thought it was joke when the manger said I would be the only one.. I mean the Mgr would be there?? NOPE !! As a single female traveling for business and my key was left under the front door mat because they couldn't wait around until 8:30 PM, not a glass or coffee was In the room to allow me a drink of water. I pushed the desk in front of the door, turned off all lights and waited for the maintenance man to kill me, at least the white sheets would show the blood, but my smelly pillows had scents of others. DNA test will suffice! I dropped pins to family members in case I didn't make it. I did !!! YEAH and I asked for a discount the next morning when they arrived at 0900 and they said NO!!! DONT stay here!! Unless you feel like throwing money away and the Shining is your favorite movie

Yelp
Boy, it was difficult trying to find a hotel in this area. Reviews are none to very limited on Yelp as well as Trip Advisor. We ended up here on recommendation by extended family, whose family is local. ATMOSPHERE: It definitely fits the name, with its wood floors throughout, non-sound-deadening construction, quaintness, charm, and views. This 25-unit inn is tucked behind a quiet residential street and also borders some local restaurants & shops and is right on the water. A boardwalk connects the pier as well as neighboring inns and businesses. ARRIVAL: We drove from Philly and arrived at 3:00am. We pre-arranged a rate for the partial night's stay. A simple call to the person-on-duty brought her out of bed to check us in. ROOMS: Because of our schedule and I guess the hotel's, we were in 3 different rooms each night. All of the rooms were clean. Yes they're older looking, but clean & up-kept is what matters to us. It's not a dive by any means. The TV's are old meaning not flat paneled. The air conditioning units are strong & cool. The windows are covered with vinyl shutters which are great for blocking out the early morning sun, and to me are cleaner than drapery. As far as the bed quality, all 3 rooms differed, from sagging and springy on our first 2 nights, to newer & more firm on our 3rd. Nothing far from uncomfortable though. The bed was actually more comfortable than some of the major hotel brands we stayed at during our 26 day vacation! And the pillows were great, meaning firm. I loathe those soft worthless ones. There's free Wi-Fi, but a bit spotty. No biggie as AT&T has great reception. BATHROOMS: All 3 were the same, 1 sink and shower/tub, and hair dryer. But the tub filler doesn't come on, and there's no drain stopper. Possibly to discourage baths? Water pressure was good and drainage was quick. FRONT DESK: All the ladies who we interacted with were very friendly. PARKING: It's free! Where are you going to get that perk nowadays?! HOUSEKEEPING: On the day we had to relocate to the room next door, the housekeeper knocks on the door regardless of the DND sign. Not a big deal as we were up already. CHECK OUT: Stopped at the front desk to return the keys and for a receipt. All's well that ends well! OVERALL: We'd stay here again. The rate was reasonable for the room quality. But I doubt we'll be in this neck of the woods again.

Yelp
This was the third time we have stayed here and the last. The first time we stayed was 1993. It looks the same. Needs more renovation and for the price should offer a hot breakfast. Beds are Iike rocks and rugs are torn. I hope they can renovate more for their own sake.

Yelp
I have been coming to the Tranquil House Inn for twenty years with my family and friends. We don't always stay in Manteo, but when we do we stay here! The view of the sound is incomparable! There's a small marina right on their front deck which houses the Down East Rover in the summertime- a very inexpensive touring sailboat that will take you midday or on a sunset cruise. The 1587 restaurant downstairs is wonderful and always has been! Don't forget the creme brûlée! Each room is different and has it's own personality, most having a beachy-type feel. The televisions are older, yes, but why would you be in your room the whole day?! In the early evening there's wine and cheese on the second balcony and a continental breakfast every day. I'm not much for the coffee so I go to the shop around the corner on my bike. Love this town, love this Inn!

Yelp
This was our first visit to this lovely bed and breakfast Nice people and charming room on the 3rd floor Checking in took a while, since the woman at the desk was booking a room over the phone, and I guess that comes first They made sure to tell us about the managers wine and cheese in the evening We went there 2 nights and there we two decanters if wine, some cheese and crackers The lights were shut off and it appeared to be very dingy Certainly nothing special. Good be improved upon We might come back next year The continental breakfast was ok

Yelp
First time to the Outerbanks in NC. I went in January (offseason). The price per day was half because of the time of the year and got a little discount with AAA. I still found it overpriced. The premium room was OK but the carpet was worn out. No coffee maker nor little fridge in the room. After 9 am there is no coffee in the entire place nor any business near by (offseason). This was supposed to be an upscale bed & breakfast but fell way short of my expectations (and I am not a very demanding person). It seems that they finally replaced the TVs with 24 to 27" flat screens. There was not room service in the three days we stayed. Maybe because of how late we left the room each day. I would not recommend this area for a get away weekend during this time of the year. The area is a cemetery. And I am referring to normal daytime activities. You can tell by the amount of empty beach homes and apartments. I would guess 95% of them were empty. Almost every local business closes during the offseason. If I ever come back to the area I would not stay here. I would rather stay in a regular hotel.

Yelp
I'D GIVE IT 20 STARS IF I COULD!! We're vegetarian and this is one of the best upscale vegetarian menus anywhere. The Sesame Seared Tofu appetizer was absolutely to die for - amazing texture and flavors. My husband picked this restaraunt after reading the menu in the OBX app for Android for our anniversary and while we were on our last night of vacation. I am so glad he did! It was all excellent: the ambiance, the service, the view, the food and the wine. We had a very delicious desert there and then took a walk over the bridge. It was a wonderful, romantic evening.

Yelp
I have stayed at Bed and Breakfast Inns before and my experience at the Tranquil House Inn was just ok. The rooms were clean but needed a few upgrades. The bed was sunken in and needed replacement and the TVs are dated. Usually when staying at Bed and Breakfast Inn's I have experienced coffee and water and drinks and snacks in the lobby or general area at all times during the day. At the tranquil house, there is nothing out during the day except a plate of cookies in the afternoon followed by a wine and cheese hour. The wine I passed on at the recommendation of some other folks which had tried it. The breakfast was pretty good however there was no water to be found. The best thing going for this place is its location to the Old Town of Manteo. For the price I paid I would have expected a bit more. The feel was that because the location is ideal we can cut some corners here and there and still sell rooms. When I come back to Manteo I will stay somewhere else.

Yelp
Beautiful views of the marina. An upscale restaurant which is also a vegetarian's delight, thanks to a completely separate, extensive vegetarian menu. It is situated in the back of Tranquil House Inn - which is so pretty, I think I'd like to stay there sometime. My dh and I got a table by the window - perhaps b/c we made reservations? - and watched the boats/yachts pull up. Some of the folks came right in to eat. We started with the featured red by the glass, William Hill Central Coast Cabernet Sauvignon...it was surprisingly smooth and we ordered another! My parmesan risotto was one of the best dishes I've ever had. My dh was pleased with his perfectly cooked filet mignon, resting on yummy garlic mashed potatoes. I was in heaven when we had dessert (verbal menu) which was pots de chocolat. Pretty amazing.

Yelp
Great location and gorgeous views. We all enjoyed our meals, gazpacho, salads, the entree's, everything was satisfying. We were the last ones to leave, which was well past closing but no rush to push us out. Great area to walk around afterwards.

Judirh R.

Yelp
This was not my favorite hotel by far. I thought I was going to get a quaint hotel with a fine restaurant but instead the restaurant was closed and it was not very clean. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment for my husbands birthday surprise.

Yelp
I have not been in many restaurants in the outer banks I consider an establishment to take visiting guests but this was such the feeling I had after a wonderful meal at 1587. The Manteo waterfront offers many locations to eat and shop but if your looking for that one place that you will remember please take a trip to Roanoke Island and visit this eatery. The dinner entree cost per plate will run you around 22 for a chicken dish to 36 for the Tenderloin but for the atmosphere and the location on water, this was a justified cost for my dinning experience. I gave 1587 5 stars for what it does, and what is does, it does very well. I have not yet visited the Inn but if I were to have guest request a place of logging, I just might steer them toward Tranquil House.

Yelp
This was our first visit to the Outer Banks and we were looking for an experience that we would never forget! 1587 was such an event. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and each person that works here smiled and made us feel welcomed and appreciated. The view directly outside the window was amazing and only added to the sheer perfection of our dinner. Our waiter, Brandon, was very accommodating and helped us in pairing a wine that went with both entrees. And speaking of food - from beginning to end AMAZING! Scallops. Beef. Lamb. Chocolate dessert. We left feeling very full and very satisfied. We also stayed at the Inn for the weekend and were celebrating a low-key Birthday dinner. I would recommend 1587 in a heartbeat and we will return to this eatery on our next visit!

Yelp
Lovely restaurant in the Tranquil hotel. This was our anniversary and the staff made an extra effort to welcome us. We ordered the crabcakes which were the best we have tasted anywhere! I had the braised chicken on a bed of rice with a curry sauce. Beautiful view of the wharf in Manteo. Don't miss this one. Wine selection excellent and resonalble. Nick Brown

Yelp
We booked a block of rooms here for wedding guests and are so glad we did. Jackie was great with communication and I know our guests enjoyed their stay there. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Have stayed at the Tranquil House on four occasions. Every time our experience has been wonderful. As the name implies, tranquil is the word of choice. Our stays have been peaceful and relaxing. The is never a lot of noise often found in the big box hotels. The accommodations too are not your commonplace "one room looks like the other"...each room is different. Am not on the OBX to watch TV so the older models were not a distraction. The breakfast offerings are much better then any other continental offerings. Whether after a day at the beach or just out and about the wine and cheese provided in the afternoon is spectacular. Just gets you ready for a nice dinner..possibly downstairs at the elegant 1587. Having traveled in business for years, the Tranquil House Inn get high marks from me. Peaceful and quiet.

Yelp
Been on the Outer Banks for 6 days and this was by far the best dinner we've had. Shrimp that tasted like shrimp and scallops to die for. Service excellent.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite annual stops for dinner. The food is always outstanding and the service is not only great, but very personable. We truly enjoy the Tranquil House. It's always a highlight of our summer trip.
