"The Trappist, Downtown Old Oakland by Pitch Interactive. Snuggled in Oakland’s Old Town district, this classic pub offers a wide selection of beers on tap of the finest grade. Along with beers, they typically have at least one cider option available on tap. Their pub food is not to be taken lightly. You’ll see things like bratwurst or grilled cheese on the menu, but rest assured they are of the highest caliber of pub foods. This gem of a pub is not to be passed up if you visit Oakland."

This is a beautiful "Belgium" bar located in a Victorian. If you like beer you will love this place. I am not a beer lover but last time I had a hard kombucha. I love the antique rich atmosphere.

Google
Great place with two bars, tons of inside places to sit and an outside patio with ferry lights. Good service and great beer with few bites to eat. Would have preferred better options - solid mixed cheese and charcuterie platter seemed the way to go although tad expensive for my taste. We settled on IPA and Russian River Redemption accompanied by hummus plate and the mozzarella cheddar grilled sandwich although what I really wanted was the Ruben sandwich. Have to come back in the fall for that ;). Ah, of course, don't miss their Saturday brunch scene with grilled burgers on the patio. Woohoo!!!

If you are a beer enthusiast or no nothing about beer but need the best place to hangout outdoors, then look no further cause The Trappist is the best. The service has always been on point and friendliest. No snobbery here for the quality they provide. Due to covid they also have food around. Love this spot. Cheers!

Google
First time there and had to come back because it was too crowded to get in. Glad I did. Amazing beer selection. Fast friendly service. Reasonable prices. The food was pretty good as well. I will be back.

Google
(For the front bar) Great beer selection, but mostly domestics. Minus a star because I was expecting more Belgian styles. "The Trappist" seems to be literal - the only Trappist beer on the list was St. Bernardus ABT 12. Friendly staff. Limited seating. Cozy place.

Loved the little bar atmosphere of this place! So many local beers from the Bay Area and beyond. Bartenders and patrons were nice and friendly. If you like stouts, go now, as they stock up in the winter time. Apparently the bar owners bought the shop next door and have/ are incorporating it into their space.

Google
Great bar with a European look and quite a few Belgium beers on tap, along mostly Californian beers and a few interstate. They have a good selection of sour beers, which I liked. The barmaid was super friendly too. I definitely recommend going here.

Google
Amazing little spot if you love your Belgian brews! A good selection of local beers in the same style on draft, and a delightful selection of bottled European delights stashed away in the fridge. Food (on a prior visit a while back) was very comfortable - but ignore those photos that show kitchen open till 11pm, as I've never seen the kitchen open past 9ish - call to confirm if you want more than "crisps".

Yelp
This spot used to be a Belgian style beer bar with an old-timey vibe. Sante Adairius took over the spot within the last couple years and kept the same vibe/ build out for the most part. The space isn't big so it's pretty intimate and the folks here are very friendly. Lots of my beer friends and I have been big fans of this brewery for a very long time. This is my first time visiting either location because Santa Cruz is pretty far for me when I visit the area so I was glad I was able to make a visit to this spot since it's closer to where my family lives in the East Bay. I think they're typically known for their sour beers, but I've noticed more and more hazy IPAs coming from this brewery recently. I'm not sure if that's a new development or I just didn't notice them previously. I ordered a hazy IPA and just hung out at the bar for a while. Just a great place to drink beers. I came during the week, so there was plenty of street parking.

Yelp
We tried a few of their drinks--lots of selection, and each had its own unique flavor. The store interior is really classy, and there's a cozy outdoor patio in the back. Plus, it's dog friendly!

Yelp
Cozy and great ambiance, with old world medieval pub feel. Service was excellent and the food menu was small, but I kind of wanted to try everything because it al looked so good! The beer is world class and there was a variety of beer to please everyone in our group of 8. We also popped a bottle of West Ashley, which all of the beers we had were made locally in northern Cali by the brewery, and was delicious! Just an amazing, cozy, world class, really special experience. But could easily also just be your local pub you go to every day.

Yelp
Really tasty IPA. Chill spot. Bartender Ruben was super knowledgeable and friendly. Nice vibe, cool music.

Yelp
I haven't been here for many years. It's always been a Belgian beer bar. I'm not sure when Sante Adairius took it over but they've pretty much kept it the same as it was, in a good way. As I tend to drink IPA's, I was happy that they also had some on the menu. I tried the Left and Leaning, a non hazy that I really enjoyed. My friend had a very properly poured St. Bernardus (see photo). The service was great. Also on hand is a lovely, friendly Irish Setter. It was very fun when he visited our table. There's a nice $5 parking lot next door with an attendant. This alone would bring me back :)

Yelp
Came here spontaneously on a Sunday while walking the streets of Oakland. This was such a cute spot. Love the beer selection. I went with the Belgian quad (St Bernadus ABT 12) to start which was tasty, but then switched to the Belgian Tripel (Gouden Carolus) and stuck with that one. At one point I wanted to taste a canned IPA, and since the bartender had never tried it, he opened it up for us to try. Amazing customer service. The spot seems tight at first but there's more seating in the back and outside. We found a table in the back that sits at least 8, and plucked ourselves down and played a board game (Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition, highly recommend). In the end, got a 4 pack of one of the beers to go for my partner. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Sante Adairius is a brewery in Santa Cruz, California. It's known for its old-world-style ales with a twist. We visited the taproom in Oakland which had a Belgian pub vibe with modern music vibing on the speakers. Belgian and Sour beers are my personal homebrew passion so I loved trying them out in person at Sante Adairius. Saison Bernice: A Saison that is absolutely perfect. The beer is made with freshest on hand and locally available ingredients with multiple yeast additions including Brett. The beer is then aged longer in the bottle to give a bright Saison. This was our favorite of the flight. Fading Footprints: A Belgian-style Witbier with body that is both thin, but also a bit chewy due to the heavy Wheat usage. A lovely citrus flavor comes across with just a hint of spice. The OG Hazy. Summer SaplingL A Belgian Style Blonde hopped to give a bit more character. This was brewed in collaboration with Ryan Witter-Merithew of Casita Cerveceria. A nice crusher in my opinion when you want a light bodied ale with enough character to keep you thinking. After the Future: A Hazy IPA featuring Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic. It is the holy gospel of hops right now and honestly you can't lose with the combo. _____

Yelp
Stopped by for a beer after work. There is a dark brown wood aesthetics inside with a list of draft brews, both in-house and other breweries, by ABV. Also available are cans to go or online. The Bartender provides some suggestions based on my palate. Need for a nibble? There is a small menu with happy hour bites and snacks. I ordered their Little Bit Lager, 5% ABV, clean, light and fresh. Just what I needed at the moment. Very refreshing.

Yelp
I want to say I visited this bar when it was under another name/owner, so I came in for a new visit. Immediately I appreciated how clean it was and there was a fair number of patrons sitting around. The server was prompt and very knowledgeable about what was on tap. I have a passion for sours and she walked me through the options. I settled on the Idyllic Contemplations. Light, slightly sour, with a nice mouth feel.

Patrick S.

Yelp
Some of the best beer on the planet, in a great spot, served by real nice people. What else do you need? The outdoor seating is great and the indoors is very comfortable. Special thanks to the bartender who helped me find the T-shirt in the perfect size!

Yelp
I came to check out this place and I was pleasantly surprised by the unique ways waffles are used. I had some really good slightly sour beers and the burrata. The waffle chips were the perfect pair with the burrata. A nice new twist on one of my favorite foods . Also bonus: dog friendly
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Been here a handful of times. While I do miss the Trappist somewhat, I'm happy that Sante Adairius replaced them. I don't know if the staff is the same or not, but they definitely seem more friendly than Trappist's. Mostly saisons/sours/IPAs so don't come expecting to fulfill your winter stout cravings. There's indoor, shaded outdoor, or blazing sun seating. Street parking or shared adjacent paid lot. Don't leave anything visible in your car. Or really, don't leave anything in your car in downtown/Old Town Oakland.

Yelp
Come for the beer, stay for the food! The veggie samosa waffle, caprese burrata with waffle chips, and kimchi deviled eggs were incredible! They paired perfectly with the Spots and Dots IPA and Saison Bernice. Chefs kiss!!

Yelp
Outside of this being a coveted craft brewery on the other side of the Bay in Santa Cruz, Sante stands out on its own as one of the most solid beer options in Oakland. If you're into sour or funky beers then half the tap list will excite you. But if you're like me and mainly into clean IPAs, bodacious stouts and legitimate Belgian style beers, theirs at the gold standard in my book. I like that I can grab a $5 slice at Graffiti and pop in here and almost always find a spot to sit. And the beer rotates in and out so there's always a reason to come often and have something fresh and original.

Yelp
Highly recommended as an IPA drinker. Stop by here weekly to have a pint and pick up cans. Knows a lot about beers and friendly. Must stop by if in Oakland.

Yelp
The cozy brick walls and plants make a comfortable place to enjoy fresh and delicious beer served up by friendly and knowledgeable beertenders. They are now serving food and the bites we have had were tasty! Highly recommend this spot for any beer lover. It's one of the more comfortable breweries I have been too. The patio is lovely as well!

Yelp
I was shocked this location has been open for almost a year and we've never heard of it! Love Sante beers and this location is super fun. The bartender was nice and friendly and the bar has a super cool old fashion feel. Plenty of light beers, saisons and ipas on draft and a great togo selection as well.

Yelp
Great patio! (I still respect Covid and the flu season , so a great option.) Great selection. Helpful guidance. Very small, but quality menu!!

Yelp
This is high quality, amazing beer! So glad they opened an Oakland tasting area! The outside area is comfy & clean with space & it brings happiness to me & my pups!

Yelp
Fantastic beer and great ambience! Can't recommend this spot enough! The true definition of the "Third Place"

Yelp
Was in town for a couple nights and found myself here after work. This place is fantastic. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and stayed for hours meeting new people and chatting up with the bartenders. Everyone is so friendly. This place is elegant looking and aesthetic. Patio is great as well. I can't wait to come back next work trip. Highly highly recommend!!

Yelp
I was told a brewery took over the space as a tap room. Wide range on a limited beer selection. Very nice place in a shitty neighborhood. Friendly bar staff, unless you are a hetero male. Unforrunately, I felt unwelcome. Awesome BBQ next door.
google avatar

Yelp
Service was great. Ambiance was old school and rustic. Food was a food truck not their own but i was definitely happy with everything.
google avatar

Kyle T.

Yelp
This business took over the space vacated by Trappiste. They offer a variety of beers and ales, from Belgian to hearty stout, IPAs, and a Barley Wine. Located in Old Oakland, the building is historic and features many period architectural elements. At first sight, it looks rather small, but it meanders from the bar to a seating lounge, then, to an outdoor patio. It's very comfortable and adjacent to several of the new galleries on 9th street. A welcoming and knowledgeable staff contribute to the atmosphere and make this a great place to pass some time.

Yelp
The Trappist is Dead! Long Live the Trappist! You'd be forgiven for thinking this is the same great bar it has been for years because it's basically the same great bar that it's been for years. Which is great. Maybe the only difference is that there's more beers from Sante Adairius than before. But Sante basically doesn't miss so this isn't a bad thing.

Alex T.

Yelp
Great beer and amazing, friendly service! I love the rotating menu of savory waffles and always save room for the ice cream sandwich!

Nicholas S.

Yelp
Was a big fan of the previous bar that here before. I think Sante Adairius is equal to if not better than (trapist). Incredible beer selection, great service, and the samosa waffle I had was AMAZING. Would recommend this place to anyone in the area.

Justin S.

Yelp
Great brewery that took over all the old Trappist spot with nice updates. Really good farmhouse beers and some other options. Nice back patio too.

Alex I.

Yelp
Spent last week in Oakland visiting my in laws and was beyond excited to see SARA has an Oakland location now. The bartender was knowledgeable about everything on draft and the to go selection. All of the saisons are great and the IPAs are good too. They have a quiet outdoor patio area and small food selection

Lucas K.

Yelp
Phenomenal Belgium beer selection and an oaky décor that evokes the best of that European country (without its dreary rain). Especially excellent selection of saisons. Service is unbeatable.

Yelp
Great spot, happy to have them in Oakland. Has a nice patio and two bars with fantastic beer. Dog friendly and you can bring outside food.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Great addition to Oakland. Trappist laid the ground work and this place is now layering in their awesome beer for a really solid combo. Will be here a loottt.
google avatar

Steffan C.

Yelp
I visited here for the first time this past weekend. Although the inside of the venue is a little dark, they have an awesome outdoor patio in the back to enjoy the sun and warmth. The selection here is fun with a lot of Belgian inspired beers.

Bruce T.

Yelp
Sante Adairius in Oakland has finally opened in The Trappist location. Only half of the space that The Trappist was using is currently open, so they have the bar and patio open. Many Belgian influenced brews and some IPA types on tap. A little pricey, they add sales tax, and they don't list how much beer in the pour. They are currently open Tue. thru Thur. 12 - 10pm, Fri. and Sat. 12 - 11pm, according to the bar tender. Worth checking out.
google avatar

H M.

Yelp
Excellent service and a fun beer menu. Knowledgeable staff. The saison and grisette beers made with more than just typical brewers yeast are their specialty but the IPAs are quite good as well. Nice decor they kept most of the old time look of the previous bar that occupied this space. Highly recommended for beer geeks and anyone who is thirsty for a good beer.

Mark M.

Yelp
Great beer! So happy to hear that have branched out from Santa Cruz. Also, there is a Smackburger on the patio. Serving up burgers that make you feel inspired- yes that good. All in all a fantastic please to chill. Highly recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Place was very nice it's what some would call cozy they are small but do have a patio area where they hosted a burger pop called smack burger which was great the burger and fries, anywho the drinks beers are on the high side price wise but overall was a great vibe although parking sucks

Raj D.

Yelp
Carrying on the tradition of The Trappist in style. Very happy this location is in the hands of the masters from Sante. Can not be beat for Saisons and solid IPAs as well. Great vibe and people.

Rico A.

Yelp
Amazing best new location for drinks in east bay! So happy that this location is open
