The Treehouse Restaurant at Alnwick Gardens – Alnwick, England - Gastro Obscura

"The wondrous garden anchored by the Treehouse Restaurant was once part of the official residence of the Duke of Northumberland in the 11th century. Today, the land is known as the Alnwick Gardens, a bucolic setting featured in the early Harry Potter films. For the dendrophiles among us, the arborous building at the heart of these gardens is more likely something featured in your wildest dreams. The 6,000-square-foot complex is a celebration of wood: pine, cedar, and redwood, all carefully intertwined to make a theater of natural elements suspended in the tree-line of the ancient forest. Growing trees literally spew forth from the floors while in the wintertime, a cozy fireplace lazily crackles. Need you guess what the tables and chairs are made from? The menu boasts Northern English fare with an emphasis on seasonality and locality. While the menu reads beautifully, some diners note that execution can be spotty. Perhaps a warm drink by the fire would do a winter soul enough good. For its design alone, the restaurant is well worth a trip from nearby Newcastle. You’ll surely work up an appetite gushing over all the wood. None" - rbenn250, Jaszmina Szendrey, JoshVdP, lukefater

Lovely little restaurant right next to the Alnwick gardens. We had a small side of fries which was lovely and mainly just drinks to break up our day. Staff were very attentive and lovely to speak with. Would give more stars if I could, 100% worth the visit Reasonably priced food too if you are looking for a bigger meal, parking on site is also plentiful

The food was alright but personally I didn't like the sauce that came with the venison, however my partner steak was cooked perfectly although it was rather fatty. The service was brilliant can't fault it at all. If I could give more stars for the atmosphere I would it was lovely.

Maybe I'm asking or expecting too much these days dining out as in general I'm always left disappointed and expecting more, if I'm paying £18 for a chicken dinner I expect more then 1 roast potato, 1 carrot, 1 parsnip?? I shouldn't have to pay £3 if I want more then one roast potato 😳 The turnip was lumpy and didn't have any flavor, the chicken/mash however was lovely. Nice setting and friendly staff and we were sat next to the fire which was lovely. Maybe I need to try the normal menu if I return... unlikely.

Went here for my birthday a few Saturdays ago. The staff were so polite, helpful and friendly. Wish I’d have gotten their names. There was a delay with food but we were early and the staff were upfront about this so no surprises. We only had a main meal but for 3 alcoholic drinks, 1 soft drink and two main meals it came to £65. Overall a really lovely experience and I hope to return. P.s. the stair case to the loos aren’t for the faint hearted 😂

My partner took me here for my 50th birthday surprise. Staff were so attentive and friendly. Food was amazing, great quality and choice at a reasonable price. Had the 3 course festive menu and we loved it. Lovely atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon.

The quirky decor makes the place look like it comes out from a children's storybook. Interesting decor aside, the food was tasty and the service friendly. It made for a very pleasant and unforgettable dining experience.

This is a must visit for a special meal in a special venue if you are in northumberland, i would recommend visiting at night to take in the atmosphere of the whole place being lit up !!. The food is amazing with something for even a fussy eater which i am and the staff are amazing too. With the restaurant decked out with natural wood tables and chairs with a log burner to provide a nice warm place to eat. The potting shed bar is also a nice exterior area to drink in the warmer weather too if your in the summer months.

Firstly, a massive thank you to all of the staff. Before we even arrived, they made accommodations to host us which was greatly appreciated, so thank you, it made for a wonderful surprise for my partner. Upon arrival, what a stunning concept for a restaurant this is! The settings, views and restaurant itself were wonderful and had a lot of charm about the place. The staff were also a delight; very accommodating and friendly, engaging in pleasant conversation and turning service into an experience. The food was quite nice. I had the Treehouse Burger which was with a wonderful tomato chutney, fresh coleslaw and thick cut chips, all of which tasted nicely. My partner had the Haddock and Chips which I wish I went for myself, as the haddock was extremely light, fresh, well battered and just sublime overall. A very nice setting, good food and excellent service. Ideal for couples of families, a place anyone ought to visit if they're going to the Alnwick Gardens also.
