The Best Affordable Hotels in Rome

"This relatively new arrival from Hyatt is shaking up the city’s straight-laced Villa Borghese with a destination rooftop bar and eye-catching contemporary design. In opening near Via Veneto, they’ve taken inspiration from Rome’s original coffee houses where Rome’s artists, intellectuals, and writers gathered to attend literary salons and exchange ideas. From the outside, there’s nothing too exciting about the building, but inside is bursting with energy: bright walls and conversation starters like big, blow-up prints of Fellini’s Rome are everywhere you look." - Maresa Manara

The Tribune Hotel, a JdV by Hyatt Hotel

"Why book? JdV by Hyatt’s first Italian foray is shaking up the Rome’s straightlaced Villa Borghese, with a destination rooftop bar and eye-catching contemporary design. Set the scene The Tribune may be in one of Rome’s more traditional neighborhoods, but its design reflects where the hotel brand wants to go. In fact, The Tribune is more than just a new hotel in Rome – it’s become a smart meeting point for a local, cool crowd who are drawn to its spacious interior, art deco design, velvet couches and rooftop bar. The backstory JdV by Hyatt is a collection of independent hotels inspired by their local neighborhood. In opening near Via Veneto, they’ve taken inspiration from Rome’s original coffee houses where Rome’s artists, intellectuals and writers gathered to attend literary salons and exchange ideas. From the outside, there’s nothing too exciting about its building. But inside is bursting with energy, bright walls and conversation starters like big, blow up prints of Fellini’s Rome everywhere you look. The rooms Rooms are spacious, with bright lights, big mirrors and sweeping views over Rome. The décor is contemporary, with plenty of geometric edges and dark furnishings. There are black and white photos and sculptures that double as book ends, and a kettle with a selection of teas (a rarity in Italian hotels). Food and drink The Terrazza Borghese draws a local crowd for its well-priced lunches (pizzas, pastas, and a good kids menu) and green views over Villa Borghese. Kick back and debrief the day at Bubbles, the cocktail bar where the wine list is well-curated, and the in-house cocktails are surprisingly strong. The neighborhood/area The hotel’s street is quiet, but the rest of the neighborhood is lively, with a clutch of independent boutiques, cafes and delis–the perfect place to see Romans going about their daily lives. Stroll for 5 minutes and you’re at Villa Borghese, or head east towards the Tiber and Castel Sant Angelo. The upscale hipster neighborhood of Salario is just 10 minutes walk east, as is MACRO, Rome’s modern art museum. The service Staff are helpful but unobtrusive. They’ll call you a cab if you need one but won’t come to help if you don’t go ask. Anything left to mention? Rates are a bargain by Rome standards, so you’re on your third or fourth trip to Rome and looking to stay outside the main tourist areas, this is your place." - Maresa Manara

The Tribune Hotel Rome (Rome, Lazio) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Within sight of the Villa Borghese gardens and the Porta Pinciana gate, the Tribune Hotel stands just two streets away from the American embassy, in the Ludovisi district of north-central Rome. Inside, it’s a throwback to the days of Fellini, whose La Dolce Vita took place here — the interiors are equal parts glamorous and whimsical, and remarkably colorful as well. Stylistically, it’s well ahead of the luxury hotels with which it shares its neighborhood, and with its rooftop-terrace restaurant and cocktail bar and its vibrantly colorful lounge, it’s a remarkably complete hospitality experience." - Tablet Hotels

We had a great one night stay here, I wish we could have stayed longer! The staff were all very friendly and helpful.|We are a family of three and the room we had was big enough and very comfortable. I have read some of the reviews that stated there was no bathroom privacy but that was not the case for us. Yes, the bathroom door is glass but is frosted enough that you cannot see in at all. The room was very nice and clean. There was a small terrace to walk out on and enjoy the view. There was a coffee/tea maker in the room that I was very appreciative of. |The location was great. Close enough to the attractions but far enough away that you are not in the middle of all the busyness of Rome. |The rooftop bar was very nice to sit and enjoy a drink. It was not busy when we were there so we did not need a reservation but from I understand it can get busy. Don't skip the breakfast at this hotel. It may seem a little pricey but it is worth it. The food was great and there was a very large selection of hot and cold foods.|I would highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again when I go back to Rome. Thank you to all the staff for a great stay!

Google
Likely the best hotel in Rome. Super affordable, clean, great location especially for those who don’t mind long walks (15 min from Treve, shops, Spanish steps etc, 40 min to Vatican and coliseum). Staff were kind and super helpful. It is also super quiet at night there because the old Roman walls are between the hotel and the main roads. Loved it. Jeffer was super helpful and professional. Because of him I’ll now only stay at the tribune any time I visit Rome.

From start to finish, we had a terrific one night stay at The Tribune before embarking on a cruise. Elenora checked us in and was so kind, helpful, welcoming and professional throughout…..even had our luggage delivered to our room once it was ready and before our return. The room was comfortable and beautiful, and the breakfast buffet was good with friendly staff. Excellent location (first time staying in this area of central Rome) - quick walk to Borghese Gardens and nice restaurants and shopping. Definitely recommend The Tribune in Rome!

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at The Tribune. Located near Borghese Gardens, we found it a very easy 10 minute walk to the nearest metro. From the hotel it is about an hour walk to the Vatican and about a half hour walk to the Colosseum. We appreciated that it is a little quieter neighborhood. We felt safe and comfortable. The staff was wonderful. Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and the staff attentive. We ate at the restaurant our first night, and like breakfast, the wait staff was great and the food was delicious. I would definitely stay here again.

2day, 1 night stay here and I loved every minute. The room is beautiful and spacious, mini fridge, robes, and slippers provides as well. Great hotel toiletries too! There is no complimentary breakfast which I would say is the only bummer. However, my 2yr old ate free and it was only €20 per adult for full american/italian buffet. Great breakfast options too! There are stairs leading into the lobby, but the bell boys were there to help with bags and stroller. Our room wasnt ready but our luggage was delivered once it became available! All staff is great, big kiddos to Myro!!

Best Hyatt stay in a while. Room wasn't ready as we got there off the ship by 11. They gave us coupons for prosecco on the rooftop restaurant. Every taxi call was accompanied by a ticket giving the taxi number, company and how long it would be. Great location and walked to the Spanish steps. Water every day and asked for extra coffee with no issues. Reception was especially friendly and helpful. Only downside was the small elevator, but typical for hotels in the middle of the city in Europe.

Absolutely wonderful hotel and a wonderful location. The front desk staff were very helpful and friendly. We love staying at Hyatt hotels in general and this one is no exception to their track record of excellent service. The restaurant on the top is wonderful, it’s a great place to have an afternoon drink and enjoy the views of the city, and their pasta at night is amazing. I can recommend the pasta carbonara in particular. Thanks to Mylo at the front desk for making us feel so welcome and doing an excellent job as a representative of the hotel. The rooms were clean, the bed comfortable, and the decor was well chosen. We would absolutely stay here again.

We stayed 3 days and had a wonderful stay. Clean, new rooms. The roof to restaurant is great for lunch, and though we didn't eat there for dinner I think it would be great. Breakfast is great, delicious food, good coffee, great service. Thank you Roberta and Emilio for taking such great care of us!
