The Trooper

We went here for Sunday lunch. We had been before but it has been a few years. It’s a nice place, staff are great here. We had Sunday lunch and both had beef. The food does taste amazing. The Sunday lunch used to be different, you used to get extra potatoes and green if you wanted it, but you don’t now. The roasts start at £18 but you don’t seem to get that much anymore. 2 roasters, some mash, maybe 3 slices of beef, some veg and a Yorkshire. I just wished there had been more. But again it did taste great. The menu does look good so we may revisit to try more stuff. A decent selection of drinks at the bar, but I always go with cider. It can get busy so I’d definitely book.

Enjoying a really good romantic lunch. French onion soup and a tasty lamb hotpot. The service has been excellent and the warming hearth an added bonus will defo visit again.

Had a meal and drinks on Saturday afternoon/evening as a group of 4. Everything was so good. Staff are so warm and friendly. Couldn’t do enough for us. Food was excellent (pork chops/sea-bass) and we were able to keep out table longer than expected to accommodate us. Special thanks to Sarah and all her staff. Great experience. Thanks very much guys. Will be back soon.

Very much open, every day Good range of real ales well kept, decent prices and well served. Useful range of food available at sensible prices. Pleased with staff. Access: less than £6 by Uber from train at Lichfield City.

Not a good meal at all really. Ate today and waited an age for anyone to come for drinks so ended up going to the bar to order which was a lot faster. Food took ages to come out and wasn’t the warmest. Had to wait a while for other peoples plates and they don’t come at the same time. They totally messed up deserts with 50% brought out then the rest just never turned up. Had to chase and waited around 30 mins for the others to come out. Ordered a coffee. Never came but was charged for it. Overall not the best and much better pubs out there to spend your money in. Last member of staff that served us had an attitude too. Then had the audacity to ask for the table back. The whole service took around 4 hours.

Loved the venue loved the food service was appropriate. Only one thing I didn't like was the music was very loud and made it hard to talk

We’ve been for a meal twice now at The Trooper and both times we had a fabulous experience. Good service and friendly staff, reasonable prices with great lunch time deals and delicious food every time. I’d highly recommend.

Tuesday 23 December 2025 lunch The establishment was 70% full at most on arrival. We had previously reserved a table for 7 and were shown to a table accommodating 6 at best and offered an additional chair so had to be relocated after protesting. After arriving at 2pm we were eventually offered drinks at 2.45 We only ordered mains and waited until 3.20 to receive these. We requested condiments and were provided 2 small ramakins of sauce for 7 diners! As the youngest member of our party finished first we requested two scoops of Ice cream, which took a further 15 mins to appear only after having been chased. At this point the whole place was probably less than 20% occupancy. Having requested the bill and waited 10 minutes for it to appear and finally had to approach the till staff to settle the bill and leave. The quality of the food and portion size was good. The service level was beyond appalling, particularly considering it was far from busy. At no stage did anyone apologise for the obvious delays.

Went for a Birthday party with a crowd of us. Our table was booked for 8.30 although didn't sit down to closer to 9.oclock. Food was great and I thought the cost of the wine was ok. Service was good and not rushed. Would return

We are pleased it's reopened and the new look is splendid. Our Sunday lunch was generally good but the discoloured new potatoes should never have been sent out. Who thought up Broccoli and Spinach soup? Extra gravy was a nice touch but there were no serving spoons for veg. Although busy the service was attentive and the atmosphere good. Mints should have been provided to sweeten the rather large bill. Manoeuvring in the small car park is difficult. There were plenty of expensive cars outside so I doubt others thought it overpriced.
