Interesting experience at The Trout during lunch today. Gorgeous day out, so it is busy. Picturesque scenery, but can they just rely on that to keep us coming? Maybe.
Food ordered all at once (three courses, sharing a starter and pudding before anyone launches into that). Starter arrived pretty swiftly. Before we'd finished that, a waitress appeared, and said:
"Creme Brulee?"
"erm, yes, we ordered that, but we've not had our mains yet".
"Oh, I'll leave it here - it'll just get lost if it goes back to the kitchen"
"... er, ok"
45 mins later. Creme Brulee still on table. No Mains yet. I enquire with a different waitress if the mains are on the way:
"I'll just go and check- shall I take the Creme Brulee back to the kitchen to keep it cool?"
[Stupidly] "Yes, please". Daggers from Bank. 5 mins later, and a third waitress arrives:
"Creme Brulee?"
"....! Well, we've still not had our mains..."
"Oh, I'll take this back and go and check".
Mains took a further chasing to arrive (over an hour). My Chicken, Avocado, Bacon salad had no avocado on it (plus iceberg lettuce instead of spinach), but didn't want to risk sending it back and having to wait until dinner. Just as we were leaving, I saw another C, A, B salad going out with a huge piece of avocado on it, so they clearly had it in stock...
The Creme Brulee (eventually) was lovely, but we had to chase them for that as well. Potted crab app was good, and YES, OK, the scenery is lovely if you have 2.5 hours to spare.
