9 New, Beautiful Bed and Breakfasts in the U.S. - AFAR

"Housed in a 1916 brick colonial mansion near the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, this gay-owned eight-room inn (with two additional carriage-house rooms) leans into a “fun, curated, and playful” motif—pink neon signage greets you in a plant-filled entryway and suites feature patterned rugs, Matouk linens and gallery-worthy lighting. A library lined with sports memorabilia and leather couches anchors the common space, and instead of a full breakfast guests enjoy complimentary madeleines, locally made chocolates, espresso and fruit, plus wine on the house each evening around 5 p.m." - Matt Kirouac

The Truitt Hotel is a quiet, charming place that feels thoughtfully run without trying too hard. It blends historic character with modern comfort in a way that feels natural—un vrai petit bijou in the city. The room was clean, comfortable, and well cared for, with details that felt intentional rather than staged. The overall atmosphere was calm and welcoming, with a clear sense of savoir-faire. It was easy to relax and feel at home—rahah and sukoon. If you appreciate understated hospitality and places that feel genuine, the Truitt Hotel is a lovely choice. I’d happily stay here again, inch’Allah.

We love finding boutique hotels in the most interesting locations. The Truitt was spectacular. Close to the Plaza. Neighborhood so quiet. Accommodations were 5 star. Beautifully restored historic building with modern yet timeless amenities. From reservations to check in to departure everything was easy and stress free. We will become regulars whenever we come to KC.

The Truitt was truly amazing. My wife and I stayed in the one-bedroom suite and absolutely loved it. From the moment we walked in, we could tell how much care and attention went into every detail. The welcome chocolates on the bed were such a thoughtful touch, the shower was wonderfully refreshing, and the bed was unbelievably comfortable… easily one of the best we’ve slept in while traveling. We also loved the location. Being able to walk to the Plaza and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art made exploring Kansas City incredibly convenient and enjoyable. The neighborhood felt charming and safe, with plenty to see and do just steps away. Overall, our stay far exceeded expectations. The Truitt has definitely become our go-to spot, and we’ll absolutely be staying there again the next time we’re in Kansas City.

Wow! This place IS BEAUTIFUL! The location is PERFECT! You can walk everywhere you want to go and if you don't want to walk it is only a hop, skip and jump to the trolley that takes you up and down the main corridor of fun! Some things that could be better: There is no coffee pot in the rooms so you have to go to the lobby to get tiny cups of coffee. ( We were on the top floor) That being said, because we were on the top floor, our room got very hot, and even though there appears to be a thermostat for each room, they don't really work. We were encouraged to open a window. We did and we were fine. We stayed during cold weather and were kinda disappointed that neither of the two fireplaces were ever going. So although they have two LOVELY rooms for warming your bones after a cold walk (both with big fireplaces) they have decided to keep these non working fireplaces. It's too bad, and maybe they should consider getting them into working order if at all possible, because these rooms are gorgeous, and one just wants to sit and enjoy! Overall, I want to say this place is really really nice and the manager and staff are kind and helpful! We will definitely stay here again, but maybe not when it's cold outside.

We came to KC from Des Moines to see the opera (which was amazing). From the street, the Truitt Hotel is gorgeous, as it’s sits nestled behind a large gate surrounding the property. The beautiful brick driveway and lush garden-like landscape welcome you to a cozy parking area. We had received an email and text with access instructions so entering was not problematic. The main house is lovely and very nicely decorated. We stayed in the carriage house room. It was super clean and very comfortable. The air conditioner and Wi-Fi works great and all the basic amenities are there too. I would definitely recommend and will 100% be staying there again.

This place is a real gem. We were there for a long holiday weekend and it was perfect. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Very nice room amenities. Check in is easy and nice to not have to wait for a front desk clerk - a couple of codes punched into doors and your in your perfect room. Location near the Plaza is awesome and super quiet. Very responsive owners. Can't say enough - a great place to stay!

I can’t say enough great things about The Truitt. The space is stunning, and the innkeepers are truly attentive. My stay was exceptional from start to finish. I was traveling for work and happened to mention it was my birthday...when I returned, there were extra chocolates and a handwritten birthday note waiting for me. It’s those thoughtful touches that make this place stand out and such a refreshing alternative to the big hotels

Our new go to stylish KC spot. Every detail is luxurious, every room has personality. We ended up staying in a suite and a regular room. Both were very well appointed and extremely spacious. Parking was a breeze and the location was quiet and convenient. Ryan and David were very responsive and helpful. Loved the convenience of self check in and out. The only thing we would have loved would have been a mini fridge for leftovers. We will definitely be back and told lots of friends and family. Would love to stay in some of the other related properties.

Yelp
The two owners are currently trying to have my Google review removed, which is funny. TL;DR toilet closet in room with bed, slotted doors used, see image, no staff on sight to help as far as I could tell during my one night stay. After posting this review, as seen in screenshots, they seem eager to get ahold of me 4 calls and 3 texts later. They've been polite, but still, bit creepy, y'all O.o If you book through a third party, don't expect to receive the vital email that tells you a) where parking is, and 2) how to even access the hotel at all. Because as far as I could tell in the one night I was there...there wasn't any staff? You ring the doorbell cam and no one answers, you need to call the number listed on the little plaque hanging above the useless doorbell cam? You get the code, hope the door doesn't argue with you too much and there's a little entry way, a little entry room with coffee and a bathroom, a hallway, and staircase leading to more rooms, and two lounge like rooms...but no people. No staff. No convenient access to help if you need it? Honestly I think I coulda brushed all that nonsense aside until I saw the BATHROOM! In the pictures included, the tiny tiny room with the toilet is in the same room as the bed, and it has SLOTTED DOORS! As in you sit down for privacy? Naw, you can see everything. The people outside can't see everything, but that doesn't help much. The room with the shower and sinks was as big, if not bigger, than the room with the bed and toilet, so i can only imagine why they chose to place the TOILET in the rook with the bed instead of the room where a toilet belongs???? And to use those types of zero privacy doors, no less. The choice of toilet closet is what earned the Truitt my low score. It also doesn't seem ADA accessible at all, but I haven't done any research into that, so I'm hopefully missing something. But there didn't seem to be any way to avoid stairs in the building I was in. there was even a step between the bed room and the shower room. P.S. I posted this once the charges had been fully posted, nothing is pending, as in the room has been cleared by hotel workers and the card was appropriately charged. Any new charges that might appear will be seen as retaliatory. Something that happened to me years ago, now I'm just precautions!

Yelp
The Truitt is such a special place. The decor is spectacular, with every detail carefully thought out. From the minute you walk in the front door, you feel welcomed with soft lighting and the scent of roses. Our room was cozy and just what we needed with a walk-in shower and large covered balcony. The character of the old home is kept in tact with detailed trim and beautiful wood floors. The lighting really makes it with dimmers and art lights in key spots. Ryan was quick to respond to our texts and very helpful. Check in was easy and parking was available. My partner and I want to visit again in the Spring when we can enjoy the outdoor patio and grounds. Staying at the Truitt really made our trip to Kansas City special.

Yelp
This place is top notch! They've thought of everything. They upgraded my room and I'm so glad they did. Fresh, clean with lots of light. Bottled water and local chocolates. Toiletries in beautiful bath. More snakes for purchase if you wish. My door is double locked and I feel safe here.

Yelp
The Truitt is very artfully decorated with tasteful furnishings. Our room was truly a home away from home. The location is ideal. It is close to restaurants and museums. Ryan was very accommodating and a joy to work with. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed staying there.
