The Tug Restaurant

​A unique dining experience! Built around a tugboat, the restaurant has a fantastic nautical vibe. ​I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something local, so I ordered the John Dory. The fish was fresh and tasty, and paired nicely with the sweet potato wedges. ​My companion, who is a vegetarian, had the Spanakopita, which unfortunately was a bit dry. ​We finished off with the chocolate fondant and vanilla ice cream, which it was absolutely amazing and the highlight of the meal! ​The staff were attentive throughout the evening, ensuring we were well taken care of despite the restaurant being busy. The restaurant is lively and has an elevated-rustic (if that makes sense :P) atmosphere.

We loved this restaurant! We had booked quite a few weeks in advance to ensure we could eat here. The table we were seated at was superb. It was indoors, a glass alcove that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and pier. It was our first meal in Swakopmund and Romeo our server gave us great recommendations and excellent service that contributed to the success of the meal. We tried both local and South African wines and the seafood was stunning and fresh. Highly recommend the shuttle service to and from the restaurant. We hope to make it back there - definitely a must do!

Awesome boat-themed restaurant with original boat centre and excellent seafood! The sunset views both from inside and outside are spectacular. The staff was really friendly and attentive, even while the restaurant was super busy, and food came within a good time. Great wine by glass also! Had a lovely and relaxed dinner here.

I loved and enjoyed my time! Everything was perfect and made my trip to Namibia spectacular. Casandra reserved the best table with an amazing view; Hunter & Prince provided me with world class service and the food was truly divine - everything was perfect! Feels like you are on an old sailboat! The pepper gelato was out of this world. 10/10 recommend. However, the sweet potatoes came out cold, but the waiter offered to heat them up. The margarita could have had a bit less ice. The cheesy prawns with garlic bread were good. They offer a shuttle ride home for a small fee… Gary was very friendly and that was a nice touch at the end of the evening.

A few days ago we had a great meal at THE TUG. Food was great and wonderful ambience. What was truly phenomenal was the service. Stanley was absolutely great! Best service I have had in Namibia.

The best meal we had in Namibia! We ordered the monkfish and the kabeljou — both were absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. The portions are quite generous, so keep that in mind — we wanted to try dessert but were just too full! On top of that, our waiter was very friendly and gave us great recommendations. Highly recommended!

We found The Tug Restaurant through our travel agency and the great reviews on Google, so we were really looking forward to it. The only reservations available were at 5 pm and 9 pm, so we booked 5 pm to enjoy the sunset view. When we arrived, we noticed several tables by the window overlooking the ocean and asked if we could be seated at one of them. We were told those tables were reserved, even though we had also booked in advance. Another staff member came over with a confrontational attitude and explained those tables are booked a month ahead. We accepted that and sat at our assigned table for four. However, during our entire meal (about an hour and a half), none of those “reserved” window tables were ever occupied — even when we left and walked by again almost 40 minutes later, they were still empty. It felt disappointing and, honestly, a bit discriminatory. On the positive side, our waitress was kind and attentive, and we tipped properly. The food was just okay — we expected more given the reputation. The view is beautiful, but overall the experience didn’t match the hype.
