The advisory services are awful, the student body is not an inclusive group, there’s no school spirit or camaraderie, no sports, not enough on-campus housing, and apathetic professors disinterested in leading with purpose or making meaningful student connections. Our son has had a terrible time getting through this University as a transfer student, I recommend you send your son or daughter anywhere else in Texas, there are simply too many good schools to choose from in TX to put up with the regular annoyances of being a student at this school. This is not a welcoming or accommodating school for native Texans, which is really disappointing. Their sole focus is on the international student body. The campus is nice, the people who run it are awful.

Google
The worst university in Texas EVER!!! Bad advisors, bad faculty!! The tuition is so high but you receive no service for it!!! Don't ruin your children's life with enrolling in this aweful school!! Especially if you are international be aware that all the faculties and advisors in their departments received zero training about how to handle international students related rules and they give people wrong information that can endanger your immigration status!!! Trust me this school is not good for anyone and it does not worth your time and money!! Go to SMU instead!!!

An higher education on the move to be a top tier learning and research institutions in the world. Practical campus, modern student housing and very functional school grounds. Very caring staff assisting enthusiastic and ambitious faculty and research members. Students from all over the world comes here to equip themselves to be future leaders of the world.

There's a beautiful basketball court that I checked out here.Really peaceful park and a lot of amenities like a bathroom will in the soccer field and also a gym.

Google
Lack of university feeling. Most are only here due to the low cost due to commuting and scholarships. However, they charge a higher tuition than UT Austin, which should not be the case.

Today, I attended an event, and parking was quite a challenge. I ended up parking across from the alumni center, but it was difficult to see because it was very dark. Suddenly, a South Asian man approached me with an aggressive demeanor, yelling, "Do you understand English? Can you read English? This is my parking spot! Get out!" I politely told him to calm down and I will get out then, I got out and I noticed that it was a professor since he was holding a rolling backpack and dressed on professional attire It sure was my mistake parking in the wrong place, however I find it unnapropiate that a faculty member has such an inappropriate behavior in campus. UTD fix yoour parking problem.

Google
Absolutely parasitic Uni that I wouldn't recommend to anyone financially struggling. If you even try to go back to school, they refuse to release any transcripts until total balance is paid. This further prevents those that are impoverished to be able to champion their own ability to continue school. I am thankful I never have to deal with this school. But please... Treat this elementary school as a last resort option because they will essentially gouge you. I'm sure the board will love to hear this.

As a 27-year-old graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas, I can confidently say that my time there was both enriching and enjoyable. The curriculum is well-structured and offers a calm learning environment, making it easy to stay focused and engaged with the material. I appreciated the variety of courses available, allowing students to tailor their education to their interests and career goals. The campus has a fantastic array of organizations and extracurricular activities. Whether you’re interested in academic clubs, cultural groups, or professional development, there’s something for everyone. This fostered a sense of community and connectedness among students that I truly valued. One major plus was the flexible class schedule. This allowed me to balance my studies with work and personal commitments, which is essential for non-traditional students like myself. However, the parking situation on campus is quite challenging. Finding a parking spot can often be a frustrating experience, especially during peak hours. I hope the university addresses this issue in the future, as it detracts from an otherwise great experience. Charging fees on closer parking spaces was also something I personally don't agree with, given the limited spaces to begin with. Overall, I highly recommend UT Dallas for anyone looking for a balanced and supportive academic environment!

Yelp
This is a test of how Yelp uses AI to assist reviewers write. From what I can tell, this technology is not activated for this business, for reasons unknown.

Yelp
Canceling track programs 3 wks prior to move in. Budget constraints is not a viable excuse.

Yelp
I can't wait to go there again . It was so nice being able to learn in a world class environment like UTD. Go comets .....love the truck I saw in that picture... nice license plate . I took a picture. GO COMETS

Yelp
Pros: Great first year experience Calm environment Decent education Can focus on transferring to flagship Quiet People are nice for the most part Scholarship can help with tuition Learned a lot in classes Professors will help when you reach out Cons: Sports is lacking Living in UT Austin's shadow Greek Life lacking Chavilah Witt made my life miserable and she was in charge of dorms

Yelp
My daughter went here. It's a very pretty campus filled with nerds! They are a research University and are very selective on the students that they accept. This is NOT a party school. They are often in the national news for their research findings. Topics range from medical innovations to robotics. Not Ivy League, but one step below. No students who go here are of normal intelligence, they are all above (based on SAT scores combined with High School class ranking). This is the 'nerdy' University of Texas campus.

Yelp
I took a campus tour here with just my brother (self guided tour) just because they've been sending information about their college. Now, I do appreciate the fact that they care about the scenery of this campus. When you drive up they have a native plant area (which does look out of control), but its native and natural. It's in their natural state. The buildings seem very new and modern too. The library on the other hand, has an older look to it, but its filled with books and computers. They also have a geology gallery which I thought was pretty cool. The campus is nice.

Yelp
So I'm actually reviewing Temoc instead of the school. Temoc (comet spelled backwards) is one of the all-time greats of the mascot sphere. He is literally cool enough to make you want to go this college. Side note: The students here rave about the on-campus IHOP.

Yelp
I've just completed my Master's degree from UTD and don't feel like leaving this place. I've spent two years here and loved every bit of it. It's a medium sized university, which obviously has its plus points. Class strength is small and you get a lot more opportunities to interact with the professors. The faculty is very helpful. Graduate school is competitive, especially Engineering & Computer Science School. You might get lucky and get university funding though there's a lot of competition for it. The fees have gone up a bit since I joined but it's still lower compared to other schools. The campus is lively and you have events every now and then. The student union is the place to hang out if classes take their toll on you. The PUB is a great place to relax and eat. Comet Cafe is okay. There is scope of improvement. Library is pretty well stocked but it isn't open 24 hours which is a downside if you are one of the nocturnal kind. Off late you might get a bit overwhelmed by the number of international students that have enrolled in UTD (though it makes me feel right at home :D ) UTD has been a great experience for me and I'm gonna miss the place. Go Comets!!!

Yelp
Best value hands down for public universities in Texas. Parking: people complain about it. That said, it's better than almost any other school I've seen. The "remote" parking, which is something like $60/semester, is a maximum of 10-15 minutes away from your classes. Some people don't like the walk, but it's way better than you'll get at places like UT Austin, especially for the price. Student Life: For such a new school, the fact that there are a dozen social fraternities and sororities, plus all the academic or multicultural ones, is amazing. Very strong Student Government, etc. ALCOHOL SERVICE ON CAMPUS, YEAH. Athletics: No football team, but great facilities, and an indoor rock wall. Faculty: Great. Graduate level better than undergraduate, but still, very good. The biggest thing I liked about it is the responsiveness of staff. When students have an issue, it gets handled, period. Whether it's parking, lighting on campus, textbook prices ,problems with certain departments, food selection, wanting to be able to buy alcohol in the Student Union... students bring these issues forward, and the University accommodates. Highly recommended.

Yelp
Gorgeous campus but the parking sucks! I'm a city girl and love the fact the Dart is easily accessible and FREE for UTD students. I also enjoy the diversity on campus and look forward to starting in the Fall.

Yelp
I like the very nice fountain area near the Student Union. I like that my car was 100% not broken into after I paid $5 to deposit it at the parking structure 1, unlike some American colleges and also in Tikrit where I need to post an armed guard around The Dragon. The parking/transportation boy driving the tram around campus was very polite to me and my guest returning us to our cars at the end of the day. Y'all need a lot better signs, signage, and directions posted around campus. WE DON'T ALL IMPLICITLY KNOW WHERE THE STUDENT UNION IS, SUSAN. It was 101 degrees and I had to find my way not only around all the construction on campus to find the parking structure 1 (which isn't even labeled as such and there are no signs telling you where it is) but then once I found that there were no signs indicating in which way I was supposed to go to find the student union. It's not always summer, but it conveniently is right now. 15 minutes later of wandering around to buildings that were clearly not the union, I finally found it. All in all I wasted a lot of time navigating around campus streets to dead-ends and blocked off streets due to all of the construction. Not a single sign anywhere indicating where to go. This was madness. And it was the wrong day to wear a black suit walking around campus just past noon with no shade to be found. So, plant some more trees too as you deal with the sign and directions issues.

Yelp
UTD has come a long way since I started there 5 years ago. When I started in 2013, it was a very quiet, nerdy school. It didn't help I was an engineering major where there were very few girls/people to talk to. Fast forward to spring 2017, and it started to feel more like a college campus. Nothing like your UT or A&M, but making its way there. There are a lot of traditions that make this school special - love jack, whoosh, legacy lane, etc. & there is never a dull moment on campus (except finals week). Usually a club is doing some event every single night, whether it be a mud volleyball or a multi-cultural dance. Negatives: As with any campus, your grades will depend on what professor you take. I've had my fair share of classes that were nearly impossible no matter how hard or long I studied. If you want any chance at getting a good parking spot, you need to take 8am or nothing later than 10am. Around 1pm is so hectic, I was scared I would either run into a car or someone running to class and would spend 30 min trying to park. All in all, it was a great experience for a full scholarship! There are so many ways to be involved on campus even though it is still predominately a commuter school. Probably in 10 years, it will be even bigger and more like the typical college experience. PS: they just opened the first bar across the street from campus! still haven't been but I've been wanting to go!

Yelp
I'm into my third year here and I love it. I wish I had time to take more classes, but I enjoy going to school. The campus has really been given a face lift in the last few years and they are constantly improving the facilities(especially parking..just opened a new parking garage!!). I can't speak to the instructors, because they are people after all...but most are very good at what they do....while others lack the proper people skills to even be teaching....I'm talking to you in the Math department!! I'm so glad that I chose to come here, because the environment is a really great place to learn. There's so much diversity and the cultural aspects of the school really are refreshing...as it helps me in my dealings with my fellow human beings... I'm excited, as always about continuing my relationship with UTD!!

Yelp
UTD was ranked No. 1 for public schools founded within the last 50 years nationally! In those 50 years we have climbed rankings among different programs and continue to grow and expand our university! I am reaching the close of my first year here- so far I have had 9 professors- 4 of which came from Ivy League schools and 1 from Stanford. All of my professors have been extremely helpful and genuinely interested in my academic success. There are many resources for gaining hands on experience- I know many undergraduates as young as freshman who have been able to participate in some of the many research opportunities on campus, and there are always new postings about internships. This school is diverse in students from ethnic background to interests. Anyone can find a niche at this school if you look, but I never feel cliques when I am on campus. The classes are difficult- speaking to transfer students from other colleges (in state and out of)- I've learned that we do hold students to a higher standard here. In the words of my differential calculus professor- "Here at UTD, you don't pay for a degree, you earn it". The education you receive here will prepare you beyond sufficiently for masters and doctoral programs as well as medical and law school. I got into 11 different schools my senior year of high school and I am so glad I chose UTD! Each passing day my heart swells with pride that I attend such an academic and diverse school. Can't wait to see where we are in 50 more years! Woosh!

Yelp
Very poor education. Many of the classes are ok with the class average being a C-. Additionally, there is a heavy emphasis on online homework in nearly all courses; these result in busy work and merely steal from time that could be spent being productive on actual course content. Hard to find a good teacher, and would not recommend this school. Severely disappointed. Go elsewhere!

Yelp
This is true for any university, but whether it be social, educational, or career-related opportunities, your experience at a university is what you make out of it. So the question is, does the University of Texas at Dallas have the right source if you are looking to build a solid foundation for your intellectual development, your career-related qualifications, and the right peers to influence you regrading your social life? Absolutely. So if you are looking to go to a school in Dallas area, give UT Dallas a try.

Yelp
I am a graduate of UTD and am fairly proud of it. Sure, it's not as prestigious as other Texas schools or even as well known, but it's a good school. I'll say that my high school experience did not prepare me for college and I came into UTD thinking I'd smoke all my classes. I was wrong. My college professors challenged me and I did okay, but not until I involved myself in campus activities did I really start cooking with gas. This is where it happens. It's not going to class and studying. It's getting involved so you have a sense of pride in your school and what you're doing to contribute to it and then you go to class and you study because it matters to you, not just for the grade, not just to make your parents proud, but to do something for yourself and for your future. I graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree. Some professors are better than others so check with your orientation leaders to find out who you should choose when you register. The EE degree, at least back in '95, only had 6 hours of free electives, so choose wisely! The school has gotten a new building every couple years and seems to have lots of money to spend to improve the school. We just took a walk around campus for some fresh air and exercise and I gave my wife a tour. So much has changed and so much is still the same. Make sure you take advantage of the sky walks in the summer. Student services are there to serve you! Don't put soap in the fountains. Buy software while you're a student. Once you graduate, the cost of software goes up 10x. Good luck.

Yelp
I received my undergraduate degree from UTD and there were a lot of things about the university that appealed to me. The only reason I chose to go elsewhere for my masters was because of the lack of applicable graduate degrees. UTD began as graduate research facility, only expanding into undergraduate studies in the mid-1970s, and is still primarily research-based. It's academically-focused MUCH more than socially-focused. I loved that I could park (semi-close with my gold parking pass) by my building, walk in to class and walk out again to go home. Suffice it to say, people don't attend UTD to have the "college experience." In recent years. I have noticed school spirit rising though, which is good for the university, in terms of enrollment and whatnot. From what I have heard, sorority pledging has increased by around 200% this fall and last year's homecoming had more than twice the student participation than in previous years. The professors are easily accessible. One thing that is important for students to know is a BIG part of college is networking!! Talk to your professors, ask for clarification on anything you are unclear on and ask for more information on things you are interested in! Professors at UTD are very good about accommodating their students on both of these points. Overall, if you are looking for a good university, live in the Dallas area and don't want to move, UT Dallas is a great option.

Yelp
I transferred from SMU to UTD in 2001, and attended UTD until 2004. The academics on the whole are good but when I was there some teachers were primarily researchers "forced" to teach lower level courses and made them difficult. The CS program at the time was better than SMU which is why I transferred. However, UTD was picky about what credits they would accept from SMU. They also counted math courses from other colleges are "inferior". By that I mean Calculus I from SMU counted as Pre-Calc at UTD. My Calculus 2 and 3 credits from Richland counted as Calculus 1 and 2. In terms of athletics and "college life" UTD is very tame. There are frats and sororities but they don't have houses for them like other colleges do. As far as living arrangements there are no dorms but there are apartments ranging from 1 - 4 bedrooms. When I was there freshman were being put into 4 bedrooms to give more of a college feel. In my 1 bedroom most of my neighbors were master students many of whom had children and other family members living with them.

Yelp
One of the up and coming universities not only in Texas, but in the nation. World renowned for its Business MBA program, it also has the 5th best Criminology Department in the world...yeah, let that sink in. Will be attending UT-Dallas pursuing a Master's starting in the fall of 2014 and I can't wait. There is new construction everywhere, and the campus truly looks like a 21st century college. UT-Dallas will not remain a hidden gem for long.

Yelp
Yeah... so I've been going here for the better half of the decade. I spent too much of my time here figuring out what I DON'T want to do later in life. So now I'm finally an Interdisciplinary Studies major, yay! For being here for most of this decade, I've seen a lot of change and it gets better every year... except for the tuition and parking. I remember back when 15 hours cost less than $2,500! Damn those regents! I remember when there actually used to be a cafeteria in the Founder's North building; they had an actual Subway kiosk! I remember when the School of Management, Engineering and Computer Sciences South, and the Portable Buildings(CB) just used to be big empty fields. Oh like Camille says, lots of diversity. If you're White and you're taking Math and Science classes, know that you will be in the minority. Four stars for getting new furniture in the Student Union YEARS after the furniture started smelling like really bad B.O..

Yelp
I'm a transfer student from Richland College. This is my first semester at UTD. I love the working environment here. They gave me the chance to enhance my skills. They have great study programs and organizations that you can join and get involved. Finally, UTD is a great school. I feel so lucky to be a student here. I have learned a lot from them.

Yelp
This schools student services is absolutely terrible. There is so no way that this could be a university, it's like a DMV. I've submitted the same paperwork 3 times and they have managed to not scan it in to the registrars office. They asked me to get a TB test done. I called 4 times and talked to 4 different people until the last educated lady told me I don't need that down since I've been a permanent resident, and going to become a citizen. The staff is misinformed and uneducated for the most part. They're book smart and not practical about the world outside. They live in a education shell of this University. Collin County Community College was a better place than this. Took me two days to submit my paper and sign up. This is my 8th visit just to get things sorted. I have to be back here again to finally get my class registered for, if there is any left.

Yelp
I came here to give a presentation and it was my first visit here. Very beautiful campus with open common areas, lots of parking and a great dining hall. The school is undergoing a lot of construction right now, especially on the north entrance, so finding your way around might be full of detours. Campus seems to have a diverse student body (ethnically). Very close to City of Dallas proper.

Yelp
I truly enjoy going to school. I got my BA here and I'm currently working on my MA. Could UTD make improvements? Sure. But so could every school, and in the last 10 years or so I've really seen this place flourish. I'm glad I attend this school and would recommend it to anyone. Great, small atmosphere, plenty to do on campus, and one of the best educational values you can get!
google avatar

Carissa F.

Yelp
Parking has GREATLY improved over the last 2+ years, there is now a large parking garage near the new ATC building, and I believe 1-2 more parking garages in the works elsewhere on campus. If you are planning to attend uni here, get a Gold parking pass, not because it will get you a closer spot, but because the sheer number of parking spots you can find will increase. Always arrive 15 minutes early, as it can take some time to find a spot if not parking in the ATC parking garage, and it also takes a little while to walk to class as parking is on the outside of the campus basically. I can only speak for the quality of the ATC department (EMAC in general) as I have not taken classes elsewhere at UTD. Each professor has brought something unique and challenging to the course, not a single class I have taken was worthless or did I ever question "why are we learning this??"... to me that speaks volumes for the professors to be able to relate the course material and assignments back to real life scenarios and situations.

Yelp
My son, my money, and some of the government's money goes to UTDallas. So far, so good. the campus seems new and inviting. I have met nothing but helpful, pleasant staff. Calculus is giving him a hard time. I like that. This means that I sent him to a school that is challenging. Orientation was informative and thorough. Family day was a blast. So, for now, I am extremely proud to call my son a Comet. Go Comets!!!!
google avatar

Camille P.

Yelp
UTD is a great university. It's in the mid-range price wise and the classes are medium to small size so you really get the attention that you can't get at larger universities. No offense, Frank, but it's a STATE university, so of course they accept federal aid, which makes it even better because it provides high quality education to people that would otherwise never get the chance. There is a lot of diversity on campus and many different undergraduate and graduate programs to choose from. Very helpful advisors and professors, tons of night classes for people like me, who have to work. Then there is the 'Comet Cruiser' which is a free DART shuttle that runs from nearby neighborhoods to UTD every 30 minutes so you can avoid paying for a parking pass and trying to find somewhere to park.

Yelp
Amazing university and amazing career services office. I come here to recruit and am always blown away at the ALL of the folks here, whether they be faculty, administration or students.

Yelp
Beautiful campus and wonderful staff with mature student. Coming from UNT, I highly recommend this school to anyone who is very serious about their studies and has a more technical degree. I am in Arts and Technology and the newer building is wonderful! The program is fun and still artsy and technical. I love that everyone is focused! A great place for an excellent education!
google avatar

Yelp
Avoid the EMBA program. Good profs for the most part, but the EMBA program is overrun with lazy administrators trying to peddle self help books under the guise of career development. No true international component, either. You'd be better off going to a foreign university than letting their administrators pass on a debt burden to pay their salaries. The Executive Education programs have yet to be profitable at UTD. There are a suspiciously high number of administrative professionals who are part of MBA programs that neither teach nor research. They make a small announcement in class, free load your international trip but you'll rarely see them. It's my understanding the EMBA class size has dropped dramatically. The program director for my program was terminated two months into a 21 month program. Replaced by someone that commuted in and simply ignored emails or contact requests. The profs don't want to run a business, they want to research and freelance teach. That doesn't fly in corporate america where they have to deliver results. UTD as a whole is probably fine, but I would avoid the EMBA program.

Yelp
Lived here for 3.5 years and graduating this next semester! UTD is known for never ending construction and horrible parking but it's just a developing university which is getting more crowded every year. The ATEC and JSOM buildings are more aesthetically appealing compared to the rest of UTD. JSOM study rooms on second floor are always taken. I also like studying at some of the study spots in the ATEC building. SSB also has some study spots near the Multicultural Center as well as inside the Center. SSB also has the health center and the women's center as well as psychiatrist/counseling resources. The activity center gym is also pretty packed except for early morning. I love playing racquetball there. The rock climbing is fun to do once. The SU has panda express, Moes, Tomato (old pizza place), Ben and Jerry's, and Chicken Express.

Yelp
#UTDWHOOSH I agree to like UTD. Great education at a great price. And they offer so many resources for their students, like tutoring, counseling, health clinics, flu shots, resume workshops, etc. Finding parking spaces isn't fun, but everything else is good.
google avatar

Cecelia M.

Yelp
The staff is great with the exception of the doctors office. You waste your money for legitimately no help. The police are always super helpful and care for the students. They are truly there for you and I have never heard the phrases "boys will be boys" or "that doesn't happen to guys." OSA and Student Counseling are AMAZING. They are some of the most hardworking and kindest people ever. The really bad: I was once followed through the parking lot at night on my way back to my dorm due to the fact that the parking lot was repainted for commuters. I get needing parking--I used to have to commute. However, using Lot T which is primary parking for North and South was a bad idea. I'm a Rape survivor and I don't want it to happen again for the convenience of commuters.

Kareem A.

Yelp
Yeah, I'm a student. I guess that's why I'm a fan. Parking is a b**ch though. I don't know what all the recent changes encompass since I only go to one building once a week, but the scenery is delightful.

Yelp
Couldn't give this place a worst review. This school is making money off of these students and their visitors. Giving away citations like it's free candy. I am SHOCKED. APPALLED. ATTACKED. I am triggered by the way UTD is making these students and their visitors spend a fortune for a microscopic parking permit. It is absolutely disgusting how this university tries to figure out ways to get people to pay for this school and its upkeep. Don't go to this university if you think that it's the cheaper school tuition rather than the other universities. YOU THOUGHT WRONG. They make you think that you have to only pay a small tuition then BAM! A big F*** YOU in the face cause of your car being parked in a parking spot for "too long". The damn people who check on those parking permits/passes will certainly not give you one citation within that day but a good handful! If I could give them negative stars, this place would definitely be one of the few that I'd give them to. You should steer clear from this university if you plan on saving money rather than going to this s*** hole. Absolutely disgusting.

Yelp
Admin of any sort but specifically parking and transportation is a mess. They take forever to reach back to you on purpose so you get late fees attached to your citation. Parking citations are inevitable because the parking situation was not well thought out. UTD website is cluttered. Classroom sizes are large. Ranging in the 200s for a chemistry class. In Chem 1 & 2, they care more about how fast you are at solving a problem than if you know how to solve the problem. Way overpriced! I've paid the UTD staff thousands of dollars every semester to get BS service and to be forgotten in a sea of students. With the same amount of money I could get private tutors/mentors year round. What a scam.

Yelp
Really boring and dry university. The only University of Texas school that is good is the Austin. All others, including Arlington, are pretty lame

Yelp
My alma mater, so what can I say other than send your kids here... if you still think college is good for them. If you do, this is the place to shape their minds. Just make sure the education is shaping them and not the politics.

Yelp
I was attempting to get my transcripts sent over and called multiple times trying to get the issue resolved. They have been having orion and galaxy issues. Austin I believe whose full time faculty helped push an issue to higher up. That helps with others who would be having the same issue as me. Got transferred to someone at the Student Help Center. She was polite and did her best to help me. Even though she was not able to help, at least pointed me in the direction. Today (12/21/2021) called again and had to adamantly state I don't need verification to get my outlook/account activated. That is an issue you need to fix internally. Spending almost 2 hours trying to get this issue resolved yesterday and called again getting the transcripts finally. I am being polite with the 5 star rating. This is because of those who helped me. This was the biggest pain in the ASS to get done. I blame the university. They're not providing the proper help for the students or training. I have patience, but this was testing it. I can see why I am glad I graduated and left. The only sane place left is the JSOM and that is still slowly becoming worse.

Yelp
The admin is absolutely horrendous in handling issues which come up between students, professors and in general interpersonal issues of which they come in the know of. I had multiple students harassing me, and when I went into speak to the professor about it, he tells me that he doesn't want to hear about it. I report a title IX investigation the final time a much worse situation occurs, and the administrator tells me to come back to study at the university once the defendant has graduated from the university. Since when has the world ever worked like that? The university clearly takes no such issues seriously enough nor has any true concern for the well-being of its students who they've promised to nurture. It's emotionally scarring to deal with such a university, and I hate to even call it that. They do not know how to work with people on a real, and solutions-oriented level as they're too busy making it all about academics and focusing solely on that. I regret ever having attended this university. Nice knowing you, UTD..but I never wish to ever again into the future. And just to clear up this whole notion of there existing such a thing as a "party school"....there is not nor has ever been such a thing. UTD just lacks social sense, nor does it encourage that nor sees it as an integral part of students' college experience. It's not worth it! I wouldn't even call it a university, it's truly something out of this world(not in a good way) and does not belong on planet Earth.

Yelp
I just finished my undergrad at UTD and I was pleasantly surprised. I moved to North Texas from South Texas solely to come to UTD and at first, I hated it. But then - I really liked it. I made friends, went to parties, and did't have to join a fraternity or sorority. The best part of UTD is that if you're social, you will meet eveybody. UTD reminded me of a private school but way cheaper. Everyone knows everyone...and it's so easy to be involved. It's not your typical college experience but I know I had a hell of time having parties in the freshman apartments, running around in the dead of night playing pranks on campus, chilling on the top of Founder's North, crawling in the tunnels, etc. etc. The cops really suck but they're going to get theirs someday. UTD is so diverse, I got to do things I would never had done otherwise in South Texas. I've explored different religions and cultures. Tried some crazy food. Taken weird dance classes I would never ever have tried before. My department was awesome and I just graduated three weeks ago and already I have a job. Why? Because my employer is UTD alumni and she prefers UTD graduates because she knows that they're prepared for the workforce and for grad school. The campus is on its way to great things. Major campus renovations, new cafeteria, new dorms. With all the land UTD has, the campus will be bigger than UT Austin by 2027. And as an alum, I plan to come back and help to improve the school's student life and appearance. It's given me so much. It's a bit dorky but if you go to UTD, you probably are too. Embrace the geek, get out of your apartment, get involved, eat at the PUB, and ENJOY UTD. It's expensive but your degree is pretty valuable. The advising is lame...everywhere. But my classes and professors were fantastic. If you're going to college, isn't that what matters the most? UTD Whoosh! I am very proud to be a Comet...and if anyone says otherwise, I'll smack with you with my degree in its frame.

Yelp
A good no-frills university. Your bill is on the house if you're one of the lucky ones, but it kinda reeks of desperation for a good clientele. To use an analogy, good parties tend to have long lines to get in. So what do you think about a place that pays for the hotties to come in? Oh, by the way, the most of the staff here is a waste of your tuition money or taxpayer dollars.

Yelp
Both the registrar's office and admissions department are filled with incredibly incompetent staff who seem to be dutifully fulfilling UTD's undeclared mission to make registering for class a herculean task. I'm not sure why their customer service policy is 'the student is always wrong' but it sort of seems like the staff's just been given a tiny bit of power and it's all gone to their heads. If you email them they claim to take 3-4 business days to respond, but half the time they just somehow never receive it. If I phone they just tell me to email them, and if I go in person I have to pay $10 in parking before being told I need to send an email.

Yelp
First, this is a commuter school. No football games on Saturday afternoon. No roaming groups of drunken freshmen. On-campus housing exists, as do fraternities and sororities. (And this might be the sort of school where joining one is a good and positive thing and not obnoxious.) More traditional freshman dorm housing with a dining hall is on the way. The majority of students seem to be DFW kids who did a year or two at community college or other universities. People do come here as freshmen, many for the strong engineering and computer science programs. There's a small cluster of food options in a food court in the student union along with a separate restaurant that has Starbucks coffee and a food menu. There's a decent gym that hasn't been crowded in the off-peak times that I've visited. There are tons of dining/shopping/grocery options on Campbell @ Coit and @ 75 but not a lot of nightlife for college students. It's my understanding that UTD started as a grad school mainly for nearby tech employees. The university has since established and grown an undergraduate program. Realistically, it's trying to become the first "tier-one research university" of DFW, though its stated goal is to become the MIT of the South or Southwest. Prospective undergrads should note that becoming a good research university sometimes means neglecting your student population. It might mean that you get some profs and/or teaching assistants of strong research pedigrees who shouldn't be (and may have no interest in being) within 50 miles of a teaching classroom. Should you become a student here? (I'm a business grad student here who went to undergrad elsewhere.) Let's go through a number of scenarios. 1) As a freshman straight out of high school looking for a public university? A: Try to get into UT-Austin. Better town, better programs. A&M? Conservative place that some people find boring, but good pedigree, strong alumni network, more traditional campus experience, etc. Tech? More traditional campus experience, and that's about it. A very surprising number of my friends who went to Tech ended up in some sort of rehab and/or took six or more years to finish undergrad there... 2) As a freshman w/ parents w/ money or scholarship options? A: Go to UT-Austin or a liberal arts school. Students love and prosper at small liberal arts schools like Southwestern University in Georgetown and Austin College in Sherman. Or broaden horizons and get the hell out of state, though I think being an out-of-state student at a public university is a waste of $, years, and potential experience. Shake things up. If you plan on returning to small-town Texas, go to NYU. If you're from frenetic Houston, go to small liberal arts school in Iowa. 3) Someone stuck in Dallas? A: SMU vs. UTD. I went to SMU for undergrad. Better profs in smaller classes at SMU. SMU offers more traditional college experience. Many rich kids, though not all of it is and many of the rich kids aren't nearly as stereotypical as people say. UTD is more diverse. I don't think SMU is worth the approx. $15-20k difference in annual tuition. 4) Potential MBA student: UTD vs. SMU. You're going to spend a lot more money getting an SMU MBA. But the fickleness with which MBA program rankings affect hiring may make it worth it. Then again, UTD is climbing in the rankings. I have no expertise on this issue. (MBA coursework seems like 75% bullshit to me, with the whole thing a networking circle jerk.) If you're going full-time MBA and seeking a job where many companies base their recruitment numbers of rankings, the SMU premium may be worth it. 5. Coming to your end of DFW community college tour You're looking at UTD vs. UTA vs. UNT. Forget Dallas Baptist and - please - forget the for-profit schools. I'd choose among the three based on: 1) Strength of major - alumni network, profs connections, etc. 2) Convenience of location 3) Cost

Yelp
The best public university you could attend in the Dallas area. It's relatively cheap for what you get. The student body is extremely diverse from all backgrounds. This is definitely a nerd-friendly campus, thus very liberal. PROS: - All buildings are basically brand new - Most professors have PhD's, Masters, Doctorates, etc. They definitely know their stuff - Endless resources at students' will - Very well maintained. CONS: - Parking. They'll make you pay hundreds for a parking pass when they don't have sufficient parking spaces available on any day after 10am. - Construction. New buildings still going up, so there is usually blocked off areas. - Very large campus (could be considered a plus), but can be a hassle when it takes 15+ minutes to walk to your class.

Yelp
This is a great school to go to compared to UTA because 1) more parking 2) cleaner facilities and 3) closer to my home.... duhhness

Yelp
Parking here sucks and the UTD staff (I'm talking about the head honcho's and not the cashiers and stuff) won't do a single thing to fix issues students are having. The campus as a whole has been complaining about parking for years but they haven't done a single thing about it.
