The Vagabond Club, Singapore, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Thank you to Aarti for the thoughtful anniversary room upgrade. Shah the bartender, was attentive and effortlessly personable, making every moment at the bar a pleasure. The à la carte breakfasts by talented chefs and afternoon cocktails by Shah were excellent. While accessing the suites require climbing a flight of stairs, the boutique charm and attentive service make Vagabond Club a place we would return to particularly for an evening of jazz and ambience.

Loved my stay at The Vagabond Club in Singapore. It’s got that cool boutique vibe with funky details, great whiskey collection, interesting art everywhere, and a bar that feels like a hidden spot you’d want to keep to yourself. As a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium, I felt looked after from the jump—check-in was smooth, perks sorted, no fuss. Big shout-out to Dharam behind the bar. Super friendly, knew his stuff, and mixed me a custom cocktail that was spot on. He also steered me to a couple of great dishes—simple, tasty, and perfect with drinks. Overall: great drinks, good food, and genuinely warm service without being over the top. If you like small, stylish hotels with personality (and a killer bar), this place is an easy yes. We stayed with couple of friends and their families including couple of small kids. Right from the moment we booked, the team was very responsive to any questions we had. Special mention to Jennifer from the front desk, who was extremely helpful, friendly and understanding of any needs we had. Our stay was enjoyable thanks to the service. Besides that, rooms were a bit small especially if you travel with a lot of luggage but a great whiskey lounge with an extensive collection. Would recommend for the service.

If you want to avoid the huge corporate hotels in tourist zones, this is a great option. It’s clean and well run. Owned by Marriott (and presumably upholds their standards) but definitely has the feel of a small boutique hotel. It’s located very close to Indian and Muslim sectors so you can go out on foot and explore those neighborhoods. Those shops and restaurants mainly cater to locals so it didn’t feel touristy at all. Didn’t see a single shop selling singapore T-shirts. Fabulous Indian and Lebanese food! The surrounding area isn’t upscale but it is authentic, and of course (like everywhere else in Singapore) felt safe even though we were often tourists walking amongst locals. It’s a short ride to most attractions in tourist zone. But honestly looking back we enjoyed local neighborhoods more than tourist stuff. The hotel is small but unique. They specialize in whiskey and live jazz. The decor is very cool, both in lobby and in rooms. It was quiet except Saturday night when bar patrons in street whooped it up until 3 am. Rooms are on 2nd and 3rd floor, so the front rooms like ours are right on the street. Thus earplugs were needed that night if you have a room on the street. No fitness room but Anytime Fitness is right across the street. No pool but that wasn’t important to us. In-house food is Indian. Bed was very comfortable. Room was smallish but very much met our needs. Had a fridge, desk, safe, etc. Now the best part: The staff. Unbelievable customer service! Small in numbers but sky high in quality. They all speak English fluently of course. One of them came out to the sidewalk to greet and help us the minute our cab door opened. Someone came up to our room to check on us after we settled. Always warm and smiling. And unlike American hotels, they aren’t always looking for tips as it isn’t their cultural norm. Shakeela helped us on our last day with many details including free luggage storage after checkout. She went above and beyond and was so nice

Stayed at Vagabond Club and really enjoyed the experience! The interior is super unique — love the bold design choices, it feels like you’re staying somewhere with personality. The staff were amazing and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel is also really close to Mustafa Center, which is super convenient if you want to shop or grab food late at night. The room that I booked was smaller than I expected, but still very cozy and comfortable for one person. Breakfast is à la carte — you pick one option from each box. Taste was good, just keep in mind it’s not a buffet. Overall, a great boutique hotel experience if you like something stylish and different.

Super unique hotel with great details. The vibe is low key and really enjoyed the live jazz while we ate dinner in the restaurant. Although the rooms were nice, they were fairly small. The staff were amazing and very helpful.

We chanced upon this hotel and were pleasantly surprised! The interiors were quirky and unique while feeling exclusive and intriguing. Once you enter, you can find yourself in a space quite of its own. Not to mention the staff, special shout out to Shah and Jennifer, who made our visit and stay a very joyous and memorable one. This hotel claims to be a five star. The rooms are very cramped and the bathroom is tiny. Everywhere feels grubby and all lighting levels are very low. |My wife started her period unexpectedly during our last night and we were horrified to see that they have no mattress protectors on the bed . But that did not stop them taking a large amount of money from our account over and above the hotel fee. We did not give them permission to do that and we consider that to be theft. |So avoid this hotel . They do not provide a five star service and they are very aggressive people. I felt threatened and intimidated by them.

This review is for the Whiskey Library, not the hotel. After spending time in Taipei and Kavalan before coming to Singapore, I had to stop here. This Marriott hotel has a very extensive whiskey collection and lounge. Gorgeously decorated in leather, dark woods and red velvet, it states quiet elegance. The seating area is surrounded by three walls of whiskey lockers, displaying spirits I have never heard of and could only dream of. I chose to sit at the small intimate bar so I could talk to the staff. The three gentleman were nice as we discussed various whiskeys and other spirits available in their massive leather bound novel menu. So overwhelmed by the menu, I went with Kavalan Triple Sherry Cask. The lounge does offer more than whiskey. But with a selection like this why would you drink any thing else?

This place was a nice, clean hotel in Singapore in Little India. Check in was nice and easy on Friday evening. I understand the vibe of this hotel is kind of dim, but the rooms were a little dim, even with every single light turned on it was hard to put on my makeup in my room. The bed was comfortable, and had a good amount of hangers in the closet. The room in general was a little small, and there was no shelf in the bathroom to hold your toiletries. Overall nice enough for a short weekend in Singapore.

Clean, neat, nice rooms and awesome staff! We were impressed with their service - front desk, restaurant, housekeeping and maintenance. Luke at the front desk was very attentive and truly did above and beyond!

I am so very glad I stayed here. I love everything about this fabulous property and the staff that makes it run with perfection. The space, both shared and in the rooms, is so interesting and dare I say, bold? I could have spent days studying the incredible photos that adorn the walls. I enjoyed breakfast each morning, choosing the regional selections prepared by Chef and all were excellent. The cocktail program and the bartender rates right up there with places celebrated around the world for quality of ingredients and creativity. The neighborhood is wonderful, offering a great contrast to the massive modern waterfront yet its still very close to everything else. Ask the great staff for recommendations. They have fab tips! If you are looking for a more traditional, big hotel environment, this is not your place. But if you are like me and prefer to experience the road less traveled, this is the spot.

"If you must get into trouble, then do it at the Vagabond". I absolutely loved this hotel. Located in the heart of little India, it was approx 20 mins from Changi and 7-10 mins from your usual attractions. The decor is very eclectic, exotic to say the least. However, that is what truly make the hotel special. It felt so intimate and personal. From the moment we checked in, staff was polite and attentive - making us feel like home. Rooms are smaller than your typical size, though it never felt uncomfortable. Bed was awesome, and so was the bathroom. Etro products made my day! So lush. The elevator music and looping video was awkward and interesting at the same time. Definitely check it out :) When visiting Singapore, the Vagabond is definitely my go to. I cant wait to return.

There was no hot water after 2 minutes in the shower in a $300 hotel. I told them after the first night, a staff came to check and verified to my face that there was indeed an issue, and told me it would be fixed. The next morning, I shower again and once again, there was no hot water. Have a video proof of it as well showing the water turned to the hottest setting with not an ounce of steam coming out of the shower because it was ice cold. Thankfully that was my last day there so during checkout they said the manager would get back to me. I just received an email that basically says "it wasn't broken, sucks to be you, and your loyalty to Marriott." Even with proof and having the issue confirmed in person, they reject the idea probably to avoid having to compensate me. $300 with no hot water, know what you are getting into. Terrible service to by management.

This boutique hotel is sexy, romantic, & quiet. With only 31 rooms you feel like you own the place. Celebrating our 25th anniversary and in absolute bliss. Let's start with breakfast. Exotic and delicious. Everyday classics like Benedict's & pancakes. I went for adventure and ate Indian dishes with Curry's, coconut rice, & prata. Afternoons filled with love & gratitude. 4:30 to 6:30 are appetizers and open bar. Evenings spent walking down streets filled with people and eating local fare. Folks enjoying the night until the sun comes up. I love it here. The staff are so kind and friendly. We were brought a decadent chocolate cake and hand written card signed by the crew working. So sweet. I am in love with Vagabond Club. Don't you dare let the name fool you... Vagabond is luxurious and wonderful. I can't wait until we come back.

This is one of those reviews you just wish you didn't have to write because the overall experience was exceptional but because of one staff member, it will be remembered as less than we had hoped. First the good: this is a wonderful boutique property that is fun. From the rooms decorated with eclectic art to the beautiful lobby, it was a special place we truly enjoyed calling our home away from home. The staff was lovely (albeit one member that I'll share more about later). In particular, Chester was one of the most delightful waiters we've had. Such a good spirit and always positive. Aldora and Abigail we're always so helpful along with a wonderful experience with Daniel and Shahrul. These folks made our stay delightful and we couldn't have asked for anything more. The breakfast each morning was delicious and every time we called downstairs for something, it was promptly delivered with a smile. The rooms, although small, are very comfortable with roomy showers and beds that are extremely comfortable. While our particular view wasn't good, it was a very comfortable room. Unfortunately, the reason I'm unable to give it a higher rating comes down to one specific instance that is very disturbing because of the ethical and financial implications. When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by a man named Alex. Before he said "hello" or "welcome", he immediately said, "where were you? We arranged for a car to pick you up and you have to pay for it." Yes, it is true that I called the hotel to get information via email about how much a transfer would be (which I never was told or ever received). The email never came. My wife then emailed the hotel and once again, she did not receive a reply. After doing some research we found that a taxi would be easy so we didn't pursue the transfer details with the hotel since we never received any information from them. Well, that has turned out to be a nearly $100 issue on our hotel room bill that they are unwilling to reverse. They claim they called us (we never received a message on our home phone or cell phone, both of which are in our SPG profile). They also claimed to email us and admitted their emails bounced back each time (our email address and phone numbers have not changed). Yet they went ahead and charged us for something we never confirmed via email or via phone. This is so sad because I travel well over 100,000 miles a year around the world and have been to countries throughout Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. I am a Marriott/SPG Gold Member and in all my time I have never had a situation like this where the hotel insists on keeping a charge that was never confirmed or used. I asked to speak with a manager and one never contacted us while we were there although Alex said he was the manager at that time. Overall, this is so disappointing because I'm unclear if this is a racketeering effort to get more money from customers or if it is the shear lack of business acumen. Either way, it really started our first visit to Singapore off on the wrong foot with a confrontation that should never have happened if the hotel manager, Alex, would have simply said something like, "we are so sorry for the confusion and would be happy to provide you a hotel credit for that same amount, etc..." Hopefully my next step efforts with Marriott/SPG Global will be more helpful...

This is such a special place! I travel the world for my job and never have I been made feel more at home on my first visit than here back in Oct 2018. The vibe is so stylish and warm at the same time. It is really an inspirational place to stay. It gives you creative energy if you are here on business but would be enjoyed by those on holiday for sure as well! The entire team is so welcoming and Harpreet aka Lady Boss is one of a kind! She is the spirit behind this place and if you get the chance, say hello to her! Hope to come back there this year!

Great charming hotel. Super friendly staff and great recognition of SPG elite status. Rooms are nice and interesting decorated. Food is fresh and good quality. Location wose is maybe not the best but with good proximity to shops and restaurants
