"Shopping South Africa's Hottest Designers at The Watershed For years, the large warehouse next to the Two Oceans Aquarium was a dimly lit place where local craftsmen hawked traditional African curios. Many of these items were duplicates of items already found in Greenmarket Square, or worse, were made in China. The popularity of local markets and handcrafted goods in South Africa has increased recently, especially after Cape Town was named World Design Capital in 2014. Despite the entrepreneurial outpouring, the opportunities to purchase goods from local makers remained fragmented and spread out across the city's numerous weekly markets. The Watershed, a permanent market at the V&A Waterfront, has created the opportunity for international visitors to shop 150 of South Africa's best makers in one central location. The application process for a booth at The Watershed is strict and ensures a wide variety of high-quality products are displayed. The upstairs of the Watershed is taken up by an open-air floor plan with several wellness vendors, as well as, event space available for rental. From leather bags, to jewelry, clothing, and art, you'll want to save room in your luggage for your time spent here."

14 Best Things to Do in Cape Town

"Where tourists should be spending their time (and money) is at the Watershed, a cavernous design and crafts market that houses dozens of stalls by local South African artisans, from fashion to housewares and beyond. For those in a rush, it's a great place to buy all your souvenirs and gifts for friends and family back home in one stop; for those with more time to spare, take a leisurely stroll through the warren of stalls to discover up-and-coming South African designers you can't leave Cape Town without supporting." - Sarah Khan

Visit: November 2025 Very unique makers market with a ton of stalls, so there's a lot of things to look at and purchase. Two levels with a co-working space on the top floor

This mall is… well, exactly what you’d expect from a shopping mall. You walk in, and everything is there: the clothing stores, the food court, the electronics shops, the obligatory coffee chains. It ticks all the boxes, nothing less, but also nothing more. If you’re hunting for the basics, you’ll be satisfied. If you’re hoping for a grand adventure, you might be disappointed unless your idea of adventure is comparing three nearly identical shoe stores. What saved the experience, at least for me, was the unexpected reggae band performing outside. Nothing like shopping for socks while a bass line makes you feel like you should be sipping a piña colada under a palm tree. That gave the place a certain quirky charm, a vibe upgrade you won’t find in every mall. Apart from that, though, it’s business as usual. No hidden gems, no jaw-dropping architecture, no “wow” moments. Think of it as a dependable friend who always shows up, but never surprises you. Reliable, yes. Memorable? Only if you count the reggae.

Very good family dinner after theater we were lucky to Find the place open. We have been hosted by a Nice Waiter Nathan who was helpful in the choice. The Guy got a good energy and was funny joking with the kids. Just for his mood we can recommand the place.

The Watershed is a spacious and beautiful place, perfect for walking and enjoying a relaxed atmosphere. The walking paths are well-designed, making it a great spot for a peaceful stroll or simply to sit and take in the surroundings. One of the highlights is the Middle Eastern restaurant located there. The food is delicious, with a variety of dishes served at high quality. I definitely recommend trying it if you’re looking for a tasty meal after your walk. Overall, The Watershed is an ideal destination for anyone seeking a pleasant walk and a great place to eat.
