I was literally a kid in a candy store. From Jersey, the weekday drive was worth the trip. Snow covered mountains, rushing, cascading water. Old Vermont towns and picturesque farm country of the Green Mountains. We needed a reason to go the Vermont Country Store in Weston, something we saw in the catalog. A straight shot to Albany and across the Hudson into the mountains with a little help from Maps. Back and forth was a little over 400 miles. The store is in an old cow barn. People were friendly and personable, but like all stores these days there's more in the catalog than there is in the store. Stores are now showcases. Things we saw were pricey, but of good quality like clothing, kitchenware, decorations, toys and candy. There's lots to see as there are displays of vintage house wares, such as a glass case filled with quirky old toasters. Local towns have nice local eateries with great atmosphere and are mostly affordable. Go!

This was on my bucket list to visit and it was so worth it! I've ordered from the catalog for years and always love the selection. Today I drove 4 hours to visit and it was so much fun! I was greeted the second I came through the door. The greeter gave me a rundown of where everything was in the store and showed me this cool antique music player by the door. I had a great time shopping and found so many great things! Of course I picked up some maple candy. I was pleasantly surprised that they had a local beer selection too. You really have to see this place for yourself.

We love the Vermont Country Store and especially the Weston location. So much to see & browse, cut town

Google
This place is a must stop on route 100. So many unique items for sale and definitely the best selection we saw in Vermont. Historic with lots of character preserved. Much bigger than it looks on the outside.

A pretty descent rustic style store which has a pretty interesting history as well. Their bathroom was so clean and amazing! Good souvenir buys here. Parking is too ample to fill the store. Accepts credit. See images and videos for further information

Walking through the store is extremely nostalgic. Seeing candy, skin care, fragances, etc from my youth was neat. The prices are a bit high but I'm a sucker for nostalgia and that's probably what they are hoping for.

Google
There is a wide variety of old-fashioned and classic goodies in this store. There are a lot of quality, durable clothes, including sweaters, socks, pajamas, hats, and more. There is also a large selection of natural soaps, lotions, creams, tonics, and other remedies. A variety of candies, baked goods, soup mixes, breads, and other holiday items are available. There was a good selection of Halloween and Christmas decorations available.

Yelp
The Vermont Country Store has a great restaurant-Mildred's Table. Previously the site of The Bryant House for many years, the space has been renovated and is even more inviting than before. The menu does not overwhelm with choices and there is something for everyone. Had a fabulous black bean burgers and THE PERFECT grilled cheese. Our server, Lyra, added to the overall experience. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Ordered a dress and it was about five sizes too big, though the tag said 'small'; the material was rough and scratchy too. I called right away; a woman at the company said she'd put a note in saying she'd waive the return fee, since the item was defective. Well... Their 'financial department' charged me the fee anyway. Not fun dealing with this. Would not recommend.

Yelp
I'm in love with this little store. Brings back memories of things you had when you were little. Cashier was rude young man next time we will go to someone else and cash out. Great selection of things. A little pouch on prices.

Yelp
Do you like to get oversized merchandise? Do you like to receive items in a different color than the one in which you ordered? Do you like to call "Customer Service," and listen to the owner come back every two minutes asking you to be patient that someone will be taking your call shortly? (Read ten to 15 minutes of waiting). If you answer is yes to each of the above questions, Vermont Country Store is for you. Dealing with these people is a horror. I was finally able to get a hold of a lady called Haley, who was helpful. She told me that, unfortunately, complaints are ongoing. She said she would comp me on the return shipping because of all I had experienced. She emailed me a FedEx return label, and I dropped off the package containing the two nightshirts at FedEx this afternoon. I do not intend to ever again put myself through a Vermont Country Store experience.
google avatar

Sharlene L.

Yelp
Tried ordering night shirt on line and it wasn't easy! Called and customer service oh my was even worse!! Shook it off and ordered 2 night shirts and of course they priced them so I have to pay for shipping. 1 was xtra small. I weigh 75 pounds 5ft. Received and pockets not deep enough and material ok. May be better after wash I will never know as it was to tight and tried to exchange. So aggravated by customer service I have to pay again for exchange I changed it to return as I won't wear it without remembering the awful customer service. Small town Geeze all shucks service keep it. Amazon calling me back!!

Yelp
My husband and I make our annual pilgrimage to The Vermont Country Store every year with our dog. Being able to take her inside with us to shop is a great experience and people love to pet her! We always get our favorite cookies and cheeses and this year we were able to find quite a few gluten free options! They have so many different things to see here. There are toys, housewares, foods, pet items, laundry items, health and beauty items and of course, dozens of kinds of maple syrup and maple flavored candies and more! Sometimes it can be a bit expensive, $14 for a little tub of popcorn is a bit much, but if you look around, there really is something for every price point! Everyone who works there is as sweet as the maple syrup! They are kind, friendly and love to come out and talk to the patrons! We absolutely look forward to coming back next year!!

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by my hotel as I was looking for a place to buy Vermont souvenirs. It did not disappoint! It was large, clean, rustic, ample parking and beautiful drive to get there. We got multiple kinds of cheese, raisin bread, a locally made bath bomb, maple candy and more. Go here!

Yelp
What doesn't this store have. You can literally find everything you need or never thought you needed in here. The store sells all kinds of Vermont themed things. In addition they have a section for men's and woman's clothing, children clothing, toys, kitchenware, candy, jewelry and much more. The store is huge so you can just shop and shop. The outside area has several seating areas, I enjoyed sitting on the rocking chairs which truth be told, I think I caught a nap as my girlfriend was shopping. All in all in was a very cool store with plenty of things you never really thought you needed but could use.

Yelp
This is a store that both men and women will enjoy. It is actually multiple buildings enclosing the entire store where you can wander from one end to the other completely inside. It has nearly everything you can imagine from old time candy and gadgets to upscale clothing items. It's location can seem like it is in the middle of nowhere, and although it is somewhat remote, you can reach it in about 90 minutes or so from the Massachusetts boarder. Their prices are high, no question, but there is so much of it that would be hard to find these days. That said, there is a lot on the shelves which make me wonder why not increase sales substantially by lowering the prices by 25%? Making a bit less on larger sales volume is better that holding your price on a $19.95 item that has been on the shelf month to month, when lowering it to $15 will move the merchandise. Anyway, it is a nice store and worth the drive to please your significant other. There is plenty of parking and it's handicapped accessible. If you found this review helpful, please tap the thumbs up to let me know. Thanks!

Yelp
Hubby and I stopped by one morning while staying in Vermont. What a cool country store! I could have spent 4 hours in here browsing. We purchased a few snacks including a bag of Vermont white cheddar. Normally, I'm not too crazy about cheddar but this white cheddar was very, very good! Already cut into little cubes, it was the perfect snack to take to the river. They sell ice packs at the checkout counter which was super convenient since it was a warm day. They had a lot of items to purchase as souvenirs including maple syrup, candies, t-shirts, magnets and tons of knickknacks. The prices were on the high side but some things were reasonable. Totally worth a visit while in the area. Don't forget to check out the cheese room and clearance selection!

Yelp
This review is for the Vermont Country Store catalog only. Ten stars!!! I have been ordering through the catalog FOR YEARS. Excellent customer service and merchandise. I still receive a paper catalog and it's really a treat to sit and pour over the pages of new items and lots of old-fashioned items too. Anyone remember "Lemon Up" shampoo? I used it when I was in high school and VCS still carries it, the conditioner too. They have a "Peanuts Gang" section (as in Charlie Brown) with bedding, towels, rugs, clothing, and even books like "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown (which I just recently ordered). VCS carries lots of personal care remedies like horehound candy to relieve sore throats, cough syrups from ages ago, medicinal tonics, and rubs & ointments I remember from childhood. And tell me where you can still find fragrances like "Evening in Paris," "L'Air Du Temps,"Tigress," or "Tabu?" What a hoot!!! The food and candy sections are AWESOME! When was the last time you had pecan divinity and "Necco" wafers? Or "Chuckles" or "Dad's Root Beer Barrels" or the really old-fashioned hard Christmas candies & ribbons your Grandma probably had in her candy dish? Try the Sicilian olive salad at your next picnic. It's similar to a Giardiniera and you'll find it all in the catalog and online. Of course, being located in Vermont, they carry many maple sugar products like sugar maples leaves, hard & soft candies, syrups, maple sriracha hot sauce, etc. The women's and men's clothing sections are amazing with quality brands from the past like Lanz and M Mac. Check out the Home and Kitchen sections too, lots of stuff Mom and Grandma used to use and some I still use today. I have ordered many times from the catalog and my orders have been delivered when they say and packaging is in perfect condition. And while I haven't had to return anything yet, the returns/exchange policy is a snap to use. I just wish we had an actual store closer than in Burlington, VT, I'd be a regular customer for sure.

Yelp
In January, 2022 I ordered TWO 100% cotton burgundy crewneck sleep shirts. I was billed for them but I never received them. I followed up and was told that there was a problem and I could either cancel my order or they would ultimately ship it to me. Because I wanted the sleep shirts, I said send them to me when you can. A year later I received one sleep shirt NOT two. In addition the cotton was so extremely rough that I don't see how anyone could sleep in it. I washed it several times but it never softened up. I don't recommend this company.

A P.

Yelp
I like them but their shipping is awful. I pay I for priority but it always takes forever...
google avatar

J G.

Yelp
Once again, Vermont County Store Online messes up an order. A week after I ordered (numerous items that were labeled 'in stock)', I receive an email telling me to call them, they haven't been able to process my order because they got the credit card information wrong. After they then took the information again, I received an email stating 'once the order ships, you'll receive a tracking number'. BUT no date letting me know when the items will ship! Really, could this company be less organized? I doubt it. Lesson learned. I gave them a second chance and that was a mistake on my part, as the same ineptitude continues. I would avoid online purchasing from them.

Yelp
What a great experience! So many things to see and buy!! Staff was helpful and friendly

Stephen C.

Yelp
Amazing store! This place may have more items than any other store I have been in. For many years I thought the mail-order catalog was packed, but believe me when I say that the store has even more. There is also a clearance section that is loaded with merchandise. Also be sure to check out Mildred's next door for the maple-vanilla twist ice cream.

Barbra H.

Yelp
Have used Vermont Country Store in the past with success, but will not use again. The people taking the orders are nice enough, but this experience has soured me permanently. I ordered in March, 2nightgowns a swimsuit and hat. Very clear on the address, yet they never arrived. The person assisting me found them at the UPS Store several miles from my address. The UPS Store couldn't find them and Vermont reordered. It is now May 1st and I find that they have shipped them to the UPS Store again. I need them for a trip tomorrow. UPS is charging me $8.50 per box to pick up. Vermont's answer is to return the packages and they will resend. The 3rd order will arrive after I have left. Vermont will not pay this, but offers me a credt for $25. How is this customer service. I have to pay the additional and get UPS to return the packages. Needless to say, I will not be using Vermont Country Store again, and I caution those who do.

Sarah Z.

Yelp
This store is my happy place. The soaps, makeup, lotions, decor, and clothes are so unique. I wish I could decorate my whole house with their merchandise. The ambience is so lovely. Stepping into the store makes me so happy. The cheese and fudge is awesome!

Yelp
I purchased a tan merino wool blanket from their website. I received a cream colored wool blanket. It's Australian wool - ok, but it comes from recycled wool !! And it's made in CHINA . Is the United States unable to make wool blankets? Never again from that store.

Michael A.

Yelp
Great selection of classic quality products from clothes to health wellness. I bought my best friend a flannel Lanz nightgown and nostalgic jack in the box for my nephew. The store is beautiful and big! I think it's a destination stop if in Vermont.

Pia M.

Yelp
Bought a plisse spread, similar to seersucker. It is a bit expensive, but couldn't find it anywhere cheaper. I originally bought a blue one, which was a great color. Then I bought an ecru color. It is so light and it looks washed out and almost light green. But I'll make due. And I originally bought queen, which was beyond large for the bed. Called to exchange for a full size...which is still too big. Don't know who does their measuring. But customer service was very obliging and did not charge to send it back and gave the credit very quickly. Obviously, main concern is pricing.

Yelp
[1168] 12/2020 We were visiting Vermont so we had to check out the Vermont country Store. What a super cool place. There was plenty of parking and they did a great job with Covid protocols. The staff was friendly. The store had so much to choose from. Kitchen items, clothes, books, toiletries, syrup, cheese and the list goes on. We picked up so many tasty and cool items. Next time I'm in the area I would definitely visit again
google avatar

Leah S.

Yelp
Physical store in Weston, VT. Kermit took a trip to the Vermont Country Store. There was plenty of parking. He bought a penny candy for his sweet tooth, some tongs from the kitchen supply area, and a women's shirt from the clothing area. Lots of different things inside the store to look at.

Rebecca T.

Yelp
It was fun but there needs to be More Food places to eat the restaurant that's there is Very Overpriced

Yelp
Maybe this review will grab the Vermont Country Store's attention! I ordered and received a nightgown as a gift for my elderly mother in December. It was the wrong size. I sent the return with the UPS label provided by VCS on January 11, requesting an exchange. Since then, not one word from VCS. I emailed and the response was that they'd probably get to that soon. What does that mean?! I called and was told this is their busy return season. I don't care - by the time my mom gets the replacement flannel nightgown, it will be summer. The customer service was not able to help any further. Said she was transferring me to a supervisor. You guessed correctly; I was cut off. This must be the most disorganized, understaffed shipping department in the United States.

Michael H.

Yelp
I purchased a bed spread for $150 from Vermont Country Store. Very low quality and not worth anywhere near what they charged me for it. My advice is to skip them and keep looking.
google avatar

Jodi C.

Yelp
What a great store! I spent way too much money!! They have so many wonderful things here. There are sections it the store - pets (where I spent most of my money), clothing for men, clothing for women, chocolate, toys, home goods, cheese, beer ... And - maple syrup all over the place. I bought some maple syrup in a mason Jar with a cool lid for pouring from a mason Jar. I also bought a light up dog leash and a reflecting dog bandanna. I bought some maple popcorn intended as a gift, but then i broke into it and ate 1/2 of ice. The staff here was really nice. I like them. And the store was beautifully organized and tended to. So much attention to detail. And - they were so busy! I could bring my dogs. My dogs enjoyed sniffing everything. That was cool! I am glad I found this store to go to. We (my dogs and I) enjoyed our visit to this shop.

Yelp
I have repeatedly asked to have my name removed from the mailing list of this catalog company. ONCE I ordered some lotion for my aunt. I went to the on-line store and made my purchase - not from an unnecessary catalog. Does this company understand that this is 2024 and people have the internet to shop. Since that time I get a catalog almost every month. I can't understand how these companies are allowed to send junk through the mail every day. Did you know * 5.6 million tons of catalogs and other direct mail advertisements end up in U.S. landfills annually. * 44 percent of junk mail is thrown away unopened, but only half that much junk mail is recycled. * The average American household receives 848 pieces of junk mail, which equals 1.5 trees every year and more than 100 million trees for all U.S. households combined. That's the equivalent of deforesting all of Rocky Mountain National Park every four months. * Largely due to deforestation, junk mail manufacturing creates as much greenhouse gas emissions annually as 3.7 million cars.

K S.

Yelp
I ordered a blanket, it wasn't a blanket!! It was a double flannel sheet. Vermont County Store will NOT pay for return shipping because they state that it still is as warm as a blanket. They miss advertised and customer service will not make this right. Please do not order from this company. I've never received this horrible, disrespectful treatment by any company before. The BBB will be contacted. Absolutely DISGUSTED with this company. As you can see by the photo, this is a sheet!

Yelp
So, we visited both Vermont Country stores on our recent trip through Vermont. This is the original and slightly larger one, yet it's only about a half hour drive to the other one near Rockingham. It would seem one might cannabalize the other, but people seem to enjoy whichever one they're visiting. The general rule here and for its nearby cousin is that there are lots of fun and interesting items, everything from housewares to foods to clothing, many of them hard-to-find in other shops. And many of those items seem to us (and apparently others) on the pricey side. That being the case, there are lots of sales here and there, so keep your eyes open. There's also a Mildred's grill here selling the same delicious sandwiches and ice cream you'll find at the other store. We think it's a enjoyable time to drop by whenever we're around here, and from our visits we've never had a bad service experience. Sorry for those Yelpers who have encountered difficulties.

Jane C.

Yelp
I buy flannel nightgowns from this place. I moved and needed new sheet so I bought 6 sets of the white percale sheets . The top one are fine. But the fitted bottom sheets are terrible. Baffling to put on the mattress an and the come off easily. Just rotten things. DO NOT BUY THE SHEETS.

Bob W.

Yelp
When I bought my electric blanket I did a lot of research and selected Vermont Country Store because they were very clear that everything they sell me had a lifetime warranty even on just normal wear and tear. Now several years later I try to return the blanket and they say they have never had that policy and do NOT cover normal wear and tear. BE CAREFUL ABOUT THE PROMISES THIS COMPANY MAKES ABOUT HOW THEY WARRANTY THEIR PRODUCTS. SOME OF THEM SAY THEIR POLICY HAS CHANGED AND OTHERS SAY THEY'VE NEVER HAD THAT POLICY.

Yelp
Great, well-stocked store full of the kinds of things I'm trying to get rid of. They have a trailer restroom by the parking lot and a proper restroom inside.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
The VCS was a disappointment. It was a much smaller facility than we imagined and had a limited selection of items. What merchandise that was available was okay, there just wasn't much of it. Employees were friendly and helpful. One visit was enough.
google avatar

Bette B.

Yelp
Cute little shop. Bought some maple walnut fudge, maple cookies and some maple syrup. I went for the nostalgia of an old Vermont store experience. Several souvenir gift choices. Very pleasant store clerk. Prices were reasonable.
google avatar

John K.

Yelp
Nice store. Lots of different and unique things from clothes to housewares to food and candy! We bought a few items we didn't need and could have easily kept going. Worth the visit.

Yelp
What a fun store. They've got all sorts of stuff in here. Vermont clothing, a bakery, chocolates, syrups, sausages, baking supplies, kitchen supplies, toys, candies, soaps, cheese, pancake mixes, etc. You get the idea. The other awesome thing is that this place is like a time machine. It has products like toys & candy that you saw in the 70s & 80s, so it's also a very nostalgic store. Prices are a bit high, but hey, what do you expect? I recommend this place highly.

Doug R.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the "Aw Shucks" country drawl. This is a business that likes to be nice while offering defective merchandise (poor quality assurance processes) and not very good customer service. Case in point - I ordered a vest. It arrived with a defective zipper. I returned it. More than two weeks later, I'd neither seen a credit nor an acknowledgment. I called after being dumped three times by their Live Chat. In total I spoke to FIVE people, all asking for information that was on the screen in front of them. Finally I'm told it usually takes seven days to address a "box" of credits, but because it's nice Vermont, she'll take care of it now. Only thing, she processed the merchandise and had to be reminded about the shipping. So difficult to work with

Robert M.

Yelp
So far item ordered on March 5th, now the 15th. Was told it was in stock. followed up with them on the 10th, said it was in stock and would receive email about delivery. Still haven't received email, sent them an email asking if it was shipped yet, still haven't heard. Worst experience I have ever had with an online order. Will never order from them again, be careful when using them direct. Might have done better doing it thru Amazon.

Annabella G.

Yelp
Liked this store a lot, it seems they have poor online reviews for people who ordered direct from them so maybe just avoid that and shop in person if you are ever in Vermont.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Adams brand Clove and Blackjack chewing gum? Fels Natptha? Pine tar soap? Jewelweed soap? Lye soap? Rock candy? Granny-style flannel nighties? Horehound drops? You'll find all your old fashioned favorites in the mail order catalog AND the physical stores themselves. Tourist traps? Yeah, maybe. Sure. (One other Yelper described VCS as "Cracker Barrel on Steroids." (Me? I jokingly call it 'cause "Old Pale People Need Candy, Too, B*tch.") So? Especially good stuff if you crave notalgia with your diabetes.

Yelp
A true nightmare ordering from this company, nothing but lies, hang ups and more lies. Ordered two Christmas Wreaths about two weeks a go, nothing yet but excuses from telephone reps, one even hung up on me for asking two many questions. The Wreaths are made in Maine and they don't have any idea when they will ship, but they were shipped December 2, 2019 and have been sitting at FedEx in Texas. More excuses from Vermont Country Store. I could have bought the wreaths locally and had them hung on the house weeks a go. Wreaths arrived today, they are awesome, but have been sitting in Texas at the FedEx hub, they were getting dry,

Yelp
After waiting a month for my white cotton pants to be delivered I called the company for a refund. They offered to send another pair but the pants were for summer and the summer was over. I simply wanted a refund. They told me I should call my post office and try to track down the order. I said that was not my job and I didn't want the pants, I wanted a refund. They finally agreed to a refund BUT I had paid $80 and they only refunded $60. I called again and was told they would investigate and someone would get back to me within 24 hours. A lie. After 2 days no one had got back to me. I called again and was told the money was held back because they charged for returns. I asked how I could return something I had never received. A second person explained that the money was held back because they didn't refund shipping. I said that the item had not been shipped to ME. They finally agreed to a full refund when I told them my credit card company said that if the refund hadn't been made by a certain date they would initiate a dispute. I will never buy from this idiotic company again. And it makes me wonder what the average IQ is in Vermont.
google avatar

Firat O.

Yelp
Terrible customer service. They keep telling me they are transferring me to the right person, and after waiting for 7 minutes, it gets cut off. This happened five times. They sent me an email with a phone number to contact them, and when I dialed it, they kept avoiding me, transferring me around, and then hanging up the phone again.

Riley B.

Yelp
We were all very excited to go to the store after being fans of the catalog for years! With out-of-town visitors, we drove over from NY excited and thrilled to be heading to the store. First parking. Although there were parking attendants standing there, I'm not sure what they were doing, as there were cars parked so poorly that they took up multiple spaces, and the lot was full, so you ended up going in circles. Why didn't they say that the lot was full? Oh well, no biggie, right? We lucked out and nabbed a spot on our 3rd go around that a lady in her huge SUV vacated that was big enough for us and another visitor to park in. Once inside the store we browsed about and found that there was only a handful of actual items in the store that were in the catalog much to our disappointment. Most were the kitschy stuff you'd expect. But don't expect to save on shipping by buying the things you see in the catalog as most of the expensive items (sheets, clothes, foods, etc.) are not sold in the store. Went down to the cheese section, but there was a horrible odor in the area. We think it was coming from a heater unit that must have been recently turned on. It was hard to focus on cheese with the smell. Our out-of-town guests found a few small things to buy and we ended up waiting in a line of about 20 groups before we made it to the register. Lucky for us because the line was actually longer when we left! Overall, it was a disappointment. We'll stick to the overpriced catalog. (Hint: for fudge go across the street! It was delicious and also a great selection of t-shirts and other fun Vermont themed items. Next to that was a fun Christmas store to shop in.) On the plus side the drive was absolutely beautiful!!
google avatar

Alan H.

Yelp
Great selection, but everything is overpriced. there really isn't anything here that you can't get anywhere else for a lot less. Do yourself a favor and skip it.

Louise R.

Yelp
They send an inferior wrong product and charge you $11 for shipping it to you, NO REFUND. I ordered what I thought was 400 thread queen sheets.ibsyead the mailed two small 200 thread pillowcases. The photos and description online were false. I can't get the full refund for the overpriced item from the phobey " country store" and the shipping costs are deducted.

Donna A.

Yelp
They have the worst customer service. They say 100% satisfaction guaranteed but it's not true. They don't care if the customer is satisfied at all. Their products are overpriced, and poor quality and their shipping fees are too high.
