The Victoria Hotel

We love our annual stay at the Victoria Hotel. We love the central location which is close to shops and public transport. We love the pool and gym area. We love that the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. Rooms are always clean and well equipped. We love the restaurant downstairs too which is very convenient.

The hotel is excellent. The room was comfortable, with cozy beds and a convenient workspace for using a computer. The staff were friendly, the front desk is open 24/7, and they welcomed us after our late-night flight and checked us in right away. The room was clean and had good soundproofing - we never heard any neighbors or noise from the hallway. The only downside was the view of the courtyard from the room, but it wasn’t a big issue.

To the woman that was working at reception at 6pm on friday yesterday, you don't know the hero you are. I came up to the reception impatient, went to the baggage room, and completely broke down. I had just been told I had cancer and was utterly overwhelmed. Your kindness changed the course of my afternoon. You went above and beyond in every way, but what stood out most was your genuine care and dedication to service. I had just bought a baggage scale because, in my panic about the diagnosis, I redirected all that fear into worrying about missing my flight and my bags being overweight. I assumed the scale came with batteries and couldn’t understand why it wasn’t working. Without judgment or frustration, you unscrewed it, realized there were no batteries, and put in your own. You didn’t call me out or make me feel foolish, you simply helped me with compassion and grace. That kindness meant more than you could know, and it deserves to be recognized. This was my first solo trip, and receiving that diagnosis on top of it made an already difficult situation feel overwhelming. I cannot understate how grateful I am.

Absolutely spectacular, the rooms were clean, very nice tv, the beds were made well and super comfy. The facilities were good and simple with a clean toilet, nice shower and good sink with space. Good desktop area and a good size fridge with a safe and a good wardrobe. Absolutely loved staying here, we got the twin share. Definitely recommend for good price and excellent quality.

Dont let the website photos fool you - gross, cheap and dated in extreme need of updating and renovating or at the very least proper wall to floor deep cleaning. For godsake get rid of those dank feature pillows on the bed which I felt like I needed gloves on to remove! Reception staff (blonde male) can only be described as sullen and less than welcoming, bad first impression!!! Try smiling for a start! Got to room and it was gross - scuff marks all over all walls, old stained toilet seat, mouldy shower, musty/mouldy smelling carpet as was 3rd floor foyer leading to room and in room. The bedside tables and furniture are extremely dated and scuffed, ready for rubbish tip. Photos look lovely but don't be deceived- the rooms rate right up there with a cheap Motel! Initially asked for a late check out but the rude receptionist said not available! Thank God I didn't get one after seeing the room! Asked for room change and got a double room on 1st floor and only difference was the size, slightly cleaner shower suite and newer toilet seat. On one bed wall you could see dry dripmarks like sparkling wine had sprayed on wall and dripped down. They use the same product for both body wash and hair shampoo and the 5 usb port don't work. Cheap and nasty all the way, couldn't wait to leave!

Great location. But accessibility kinda non existent. Accessible room that we had was in just off a stairwell that had children running up and down it too the early hour of the morning. Staff did cry little to combat this or compensate for the night of zero sleep. Wheelchair bound partner could not access the buffet breakfast themselves as was down a small flight of stairs, and were treated like an inconvenience when we had to sit in the Cafe to have breakfast. Would only stay again if we had zero other choice

Wonderful hotel with exceptional service. Every staff member was kind, polite, and helpful. My room was clean, stylish, and had a very comfortable bed. The food at the restaurant was delicious and beautifully served. I enjoyed the pool area and the calm atmosphere. Everything was organized and well maintained. The location was also great — close to shops and public transport. I will definitely return for my next trip!

My husband and myself were here on our honeymoon. The staff here, customer service, warm, kind, compassionate, empathetic, friendly, understanding, and welcoming. The staff, crew, hotel deserves all the love, praise, and promotion!! Thank You Everyone!!! Highly recommend being here. We will definitely come back over and over and over. Christina and Philip

This is the place our family like to stay at when visiting Melbourne It's very central

Older historic hotel, refurbished and loved staying here as a kid from the bush. Tonight was an exhilarating presentation by Dr Tim McIntosh, about Generative AI and creating a safer digital world as part of these trainings by the Australian Information Security Association. Dr. Tim gave some fantastic insights into Generative AI and how it is shaping thought processes, and how it could conceivably brainwash society and also over peoples views, swinging to the left and swinging into the right, and how we are influenced by Gen AI and artificial intelligence. When really we should not. This venue is under utilised and is perfect for presentations in the heart of Melbourne.

If you've ever stayed at an Ibis Hotel in any other city before, the Victoria Hotel is nothing like those. I'm not even sure if they actually have any relation, besides the name. Here's what you need to know: 1. For one thing, The bathrooms at the Victoria Hotel have been renovated, so they're pretty spacey and new (unlike the Ibis Hotel ones, which could possibly double as Hannibal Lecter's lair). On the other hand, the room itself is a little outdated, but they're clean. 2. There's a fitness center, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, and a small pool (all indoors). And when I say small pool, I mean that it was probably only slightly bigger than 2x the size of a Jacuzzi. Even so, it's still nice to have the option for a quick swim (or should I say dip, since there really isn't that much room to swim?) 3. There's also a bar in the lobby, but I didn't get the chance to check it out - they seem to close pretty early. 4. They don't have free WiFi in the lobby or the rooms. But if you ask them for the WiFi, they'll give you one slip per day per room that allows you 30 minutes of free WiFi. They're pretty lenient about it so if you have more than one person staying in the room, they'll probably give you an extra slip. 5. There's a free shuttle bus that picks you up right in front of the hotel. It takes you to Southern Cross railway station, where you can buy a bus ticket to the Melbourne Airport. So if you're flying between cities, it's pretty convenient. We didn't know about it before hand because when we previously emailed the hotel, they gave us different information. Long story short, when we arrived in Melbourne, we ended up walking from Southern Cross to the hotel, and it's a FAR walk when you're lugging a 50-pound suitcase. 6. The hotel is right by Chinatown, and about a 5-10 minute walk to where all the shopping is at. It's close enough to the city centre to just stroll over, but far enough from all the noise. If I ever go back to Melbourne, I would definitely stay here again. I don't think you'll be able to find a better priced hotel for its location.

I want to commend the front desk staff for helping me out a couple of nights ago. My phone died and I was having a horrible night trying to find my way back to my hotel (a different hotel, not the Victoria). I have never been to downtown Melbourne and I was having a serious anxiety attack. The girls at the front desk were soooo nice and they offered to charge my phone for me. They also pointed out the water vending machine to me as I was absolutely parched. Thank goodness. The lobby is really very attractive and cozy. I waited on a comfortable couch in the lobby. They charged my phone enough for a little juice to make a call, and I called my husband and found my way back. I don't think I properly thanked the girls who helped me so THANK YOU! I really appreciated your kindness.

Majestic, historic hotels offering that traditional kind of grandeur of a bygone era, at an affordable price are impossible to find in Melbourne because they don't exist anymore...right? WRONG! The Victoria Hotel has been a part of the Melbourne story for over 100 years, and it's one hotel that has preserved its sense of history and sense of splendour, which you get the feeling of the moment you enter the grand foyer. Rather than the stuffy reception areas of even modern, upmarket hotels these days, the foyer of the Vic still manages to take my breath away. Architecturally and decoratively this hotel dates back to the Victorian era, complete with Chandeliers and I always get a sense of what this impressive old building must have been like in the earlier part of the 20th century. The professional, friendly and always courteous staff at the Vic proudly represent the history of the hotel in their red uniforms, complete with porters desk, and of course porters to assist guests with luggage. Whilst a lot of work has gone into upgrading rooms and amenities and in maintenance of the hotel, the façade of the building, and the integrity of keeping the interior relevant to the Victorian period has been preserved. Rooms contain all the mod cons you'd expect; most I've stayed in are bigger and nicer in décor and furnishings than more expensive hotels. Flat screen LCD TV's are becoming the norm and sadly their beds always seem to be more comfortable than my own. Leading up a marvellous staircase from the foyer you'll find Vic's Bar, a relaxed, quiet atmosphere enjoyed by patrons of all ages and also frequented by locals. Alice's Thai Restaurant, accessible via a side door on the Ground level offers hotel patrons the BEST buffet breakfast anywhere in the city at a discounted price. Alice's is also open for lunch and dinner making the hotel even more convenient. Tie all of this in with undercover valet parking (on availability, check at time of booking), and you'll never want to leave the haven you've found smack bang in the middle of the city! And without a doubt the good old fashioned service I've received each and every time I've stayed is reason enough to make the beautiful and historic Victoria Hotel your hotel of choice, just as I have done. Try to book as early as you can, as the Vic is often used and booked out for major events, particularly around the Comedy Festival when the hotel is an event host.

For $179 we got a room with a single and double room. Plenty of space, nice bathroom plus the basics. Grabbed a drink at the bar, fair prices. Great location close to Bourke St and Chinatown. Utilised their shuttle linked to the Skybus which made getting around much easier.

Wow. Talk about travelling back in time. Pretty sure that this is the place I stayed the very first time I came down to Melbourne. It was a confusing rabbit warren, all tiny rooms and labyrinthine corridors. It was the kind of place you'd hear characterised as a flophouse in a 1940s Raymond Chandler novel. But it was fine for all that. It was cheap, it was clean, and as quiet as you'd expect for being in the middle of the city.

We stayed for a week and we would stay again. Our room faced out into a courtyard of other rooms, but the warm glow the afternoon sun left as it reflected softly off the opposing walls bathed our room with such a pleasant ambience, it was so relaxing. The prices were very reasonable and our room was spacious (we stayed in a heritage room on the 4th floor) The location was quite literally in the center of the city, a 5 minute stroll from federation square. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Melbourne with the purpose of seeing Melbourne, those who don't plan on spending all day Indoors. Whilst it certainly is comfortable enough to, it's not a room-with-city-views kind of place. A hotel with heritage tucked in Little Collins Street, well worth your visit.

It was my first time in Melbourne, It was the middle of winter and I was frozen. I never experienced true coldness before visiting Melbourne during winter, it was madness. Fortunately we had a room booked in The Victoria Hotel, it was so cozy and awesome. We visited the Thai restaurant attatched to the hotel atleast three times during our stay as they knew how to warm us up. Great, cheap hotel tucked away on Little Collins Street, it can be a little tricky to find but it's worth the search!

Good price for the location! We are a backpacking couple so it was great for us! The decor and rooms looks pretty tired and dingy but it did have aircon and an ensuite. No wifi in the rooms without paying, only free downstairs for 30 mins and it was very slow! It does have breakfast but was quite costly, your better off heading into town as it's so close!

This is THE worst hotel experience I have ever had. The staff are rude and extremely unhelpful (especially the reception staff). If there was such thing as a zero star rating that would have been my choice. The hotel itself was okay, and by that I mean very disappointing but, blood wasn't dripping from the walls like we were in the shining, but it wasn't good. The hotel had three very prominent smells; paint, old people's home and PIGEON poo. However, I must give props to whoever they hired to take photos of the hotel for their website. They made the place look so glamorous as opposed to the shithole that it actually is. Again my main issues with this hotel was the rudeness of the staff. Truly a disappointing stay and lets down the beautiful history of the hotel. Kind regards.

Currently undergoing renovations. Comfy rooms, access to a restaurant which does a good breakfast buffet. Handy to taxis trams and free visitors bus and tram. Sadly second trip here 6 months later had us endure a night with broke AC with management not moving us at 2am when we reported fault but offering to move us as we checked out 2 dAys early. Stayed at Holiday Inn for remainder of stay where staff could not be helpful enough.

The circuitous and outdated hallways were a little un-nerving but my room was a pleasant surprise. Modern, clean and quiet, I thought it was a bargain for central Melbourne at $99 including breakfast. Step outside and you're just metres away from great shopping, eating and nightlife. If you can live without showy reception areas and are after value for money, this is a great place to stay in Melbourne.

This hotel boasts "newly renovated spacious rooms" which is a lie. Don't fall for it. I booked this hotel as I've never had issues with the brand before. However, after this nightmare of an experience, I won't be staying here again. I got a room with a view of a brick wall through a window smaller than my suitcase. I looked past that and told my self, "I'm here for 48 hours, I can make the best of it and go out exploring the city between the little work I had." However, after a 16 hour flight I wanted to take a nap, so I got to my jail cell of a room and threw back the covers like I always to at any hotel. This lets me check for cleanliness. And am I glad I did. There were chunks of brown stuff all over the top and bottom sheet. I picked up the phone to call the office only to find out it doesn't work. So I make my way down to the office and show them picture and explain my findings, and the best they can offer is, "well, we can have house keeping change the sheets now if you'd like." ... I mean really?!? Horrible experience. Just horrible. Central location but everything else is in the sh*ts (for lack of a better term). Don't do it. Spend a bit more and stay elsewhere.

Currently staying at the Ibis Victoria Hotel in Melbourne. The rate is phenomenal for a hotel in the CBD of Melbourne, however the main reason I chose this hotel was the advertised reduction of the room rate and the pool featured in the advertising (this was on a third party merchant website). The room is very small but clean and I would argue that it is indeed on par with the rate I actually paid. But this is no bargain! The advertised reduction was from $262.00AU to $84.00AU. Sounds too good to be true right...well it is!! The room I received is also in the East Wing of the hotel, quite a hike from reception, so if you are special needs I would certainly pre-book with a request to be close to the reception. On top of that the pool is tiny...really tiny. The photo does not do justice to the actual size (see my photo attached). There is a heat wave on in Melbourne at the moment and we thought it would be nice to have a hotel with a pool (it is a pool...but you might have to queue for a dip). Lastly I enquired as to whether there are any upgrades upon arrival (something I always do and you should try it as it can pay off)...the answer was no. I also asked for a quiet room however there is a delicious hum coming from the aircon vent even when the aircon is off. Considering that I just cannot believe the room would normally be $262.00AU and the pool is literally a mirage, I doubt "no upgrade" was actually the case. As a person who works in the legal industry I would almost go as far to say that the advertising is misleading and deceptive conduct. Don't believe the hype.
