The 6 Best Hotels in Melbourne

"Housed in a building established in 1880, this historic three-star hotel has a traditional, grand feel with Art Deco décor in the lobby and restaurant; the restaurant offers a breakfast buffet as well as lunch and dinner. The property provides useful amenities like a fitness center, a heated plunge pool, and a sauna, and the rooms are simple, comfortable, and minimalist to maximize space. I appreciate that there are single rooms for budget-conscious solo travelers; rooms include a flatscreen TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, a mini-fridge, and a small workspace, and bathrooms are clean with either a walk-in shower or a shower/tub combination. I think it’s the best option for travelers looking for a comfortable, budget-friendly stay in the city center." - Matthew Kepnes

Recently had my third stay at this hotel and I was not disappointed. Super comfy beds, nice shower pressure and lovely staff. The location of this place is so handy; just a short walk to Bourke Street, Flinders Street & Fed Square and my personal favorite Brunetti less than 200m away. 24/7 reception is great for making a solo female traveller feel a bit safer and having the Mister Munro restaurant next door is great. Yes, the building is old but I feel like they’ve done well to maintain it & keep things modern. I’ll definitely be back.

The last time I stayed here it was fabulous. I had a really gorgeous room, heritage style. This time was the polar opposite. Given a scummy room way out the back where I didn’t even know they had rooms. The room and bathroom smelt like sewerage. Not sure if it was from the drains or the skip bins in the alley below. Couldn’t get any warm Or hot air out of the a/c. It just blew cool air no matter the setting. Staff were pretty friendly and knowledgeable. But they prefer you to check in and check out on your phone and not through them. The bed was warm And comfy. Room was quiet . Got a pretty good sleep. Shower was nice and hot with good pressure. I was crushed that their restaurant Mr Munro was not open on Sunday. I was really looking forward to dining there. There was a bar menu with bar food. Enough to stave off hunger but nothing like ant Munro. I did not have breakfast but the buffet looked good. They also have made to order. Location is excellent. But overall disappointed this trip. I expected something flash, like my previous stay. Probably wouldn’t book here again or recommend it.

My teenage daughter and I stayed 4 nights in a twin room while in town for a concert. Hotel staff were all super helpful, rooms are simple but clean and tidy. Fresh towels, bins emptied and beds made (around our chaos from shopping and snacking haha) was appreciated. On site restaurant for buffet breakfast was excellent. Location is so handy for trams and late night snack runs. Overall it was great value for money, will absolutely stay again.

Amazing hotel considering the price.. Staff extremely friendly and our time spent at Mister Munro for our breakfasts and main meals was sensational. Our steak was cooked to perfection service showed the staff want to be here, not just have too. The Barister Deanna, made the best coffee we have had in Melbourne. They only let down was we were here 5 nights and they never vacuumed the floor once, and it was very dirty by the end of us travelling all around Melbourne each day.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights in June 2025 in a room on the third floor. The room was clean and spacious with great amenities (the usual toiletries, desk, iron + ironing board, hairdryer, bar fridge, kettle etc). The bed was comfortable and we slept really well. The location was amazing, close to lots of cafes, restaurants, shopping, theatres, public transport etc. There is a little bit of extra noise around Fridays/Saturdays but to be expected given it’s located in the heart of the city and it didn’t disrupt our sleep. The reception staff were friendly and operate 24/7 - there is also self-service check-in/check-out options. Room service provided everyday, unless you opt out of it.

Tried to charge me nearly 250 more than the confirmed booking I had. Check in/out Staff rude and short. $50 a day for parking which would be great if you kept the spot you paid for. If you leave to explore they sell your spot for $50 and keep your parking fee already paid. Beds were comfy as but could see where they just cleaned around things. Very convenient location spot but would not book again.

Price is quite affordable for the location in cbd, probably among the cheapest out there for 3-star hotels. It is situated on a small back street, so we gotta enjoy quiet night and easy access to railway. Rooms are a bit small, but clean and well-equipped. Helpful staff. Definitely recommended and would come back if I come to Mel again.

Almost charged twice for my room and twice for breakfast. I paid $45 for a bottle of sparkling and on checkout charged again. Rooms old the place is amaze couldn’t find my room. The lady on the front desk was lovely but the other staff useless. Thank you to the lady who checked me in you were the only good thing about this place. And can you kindly refund me the bottle of wine I was charged twice for.
