A Warm, Welcoming Island Stay – Highly Recommend! Our family of four (two adults and two teenagers) had a wonderful one-night stay at Vieques Guesthouse in Esperanza. From start to finish, the hospitality and environment were absolutely perfect. Amanda was incredibly communicative in the days leading up to our arrival—checking in on our arrival time in case we needed after-hours check-in, and providing super helpful emails and texts with everything from directions and taxi recommendations to tour suggestions and beach tips. It was clear right away that we were in great hands. When we arrived, Amanda greeted us warmly, walked us through a local map and the whole island, sharing detailed food, beach, and snorkel recommendations. She made sure we had everything we needed for a great stay, including beach towels and rental gear. She even told us about a hidden gem—an amazing beach swing at Coconut Beach, just a short walk from the guesthouse across the street. That little detail made our evening! Our room (two queens) was clean, comfortable, and perfect for our family. But what truly stood out was the way Amanda and her team made us feel—welcomed, cared for, and like part of the family. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend Vieques Guesthouse to anyone visiting the island. Thank you for such a memorable and easy stay!

Great location to restaurants, kayaking pick up locations, and the most beautiful beach. Amanda was incredibly helpful and accommodating. Her hospitality was truly appreciated. They give you beach towels to use which is very thoughtful. Coffee is available in the morning. The room was decent. There were wild horses roaming everywhere!

We really enjoyed staying here! It was clean and had everything we needed for a reasonable price. The owner was very welcoming and helpful with suggestions about which beaches to go to. And she sent a lot of helpful information beforehand. We had to check in late at night, and the process was very easy. We were able to borrow beach towels for free, which was great. It was a little farther from the main strip than some other hotels, so we typically drove to restaurants. But Vieques Guesthouse had plenty of parking. Great place to stay!

We stayed for about a week and I would never stay anywhere else. This place is built on Customer Service and if you are a person who values good recommendations, look no further. The owner, Amanda and her husband Todd are fabulous. We have two kids and stayed for about a week in the apartment on the second floor. It was lovely and had everything we needed and more. Amanda set us up with toys for the beach, an ice pack for our cooler, free fresh beach towels, every day, and gave us the best recommendations. When I wasn’t sure which tours to book she offered her objective advice and we had the most fantastic experiences. I’m so glad I asked her and took her recommendations on everything. We had a wonderful time driving around the island and enjoying the beach. Her hospitality is on another level and it’s no wonder this place has a high score. I should also mention that the cleanliness was fantastic. I usually am never satisfied in places that we stay in, but Amanda‘s apartment was above and beyond clean. I don’t think there was a speck of sand when we entered. Rooms were lovely and AC was comfortable. I worked a few nights as well and the Internet was great. Never had any issues with power or anything. Kitchen had all the amenities of home. I truly loved it.

Ladies trip! Myself and three girlfriends stayed here for three nights in May 2025. We had a great time! The town was a block or so away (which means it was quieter at this Guesthouse than others, but a super easy walk) and there is a beach just across the road (and down a short trail). The staff were great. They had towels and chairs to rent, which was easy. And the rooftop was great for a nightcap.

What a gem, my favorite beachside hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Highly recommend the room with the hammock, such a nice view. The room has everything you need and the A/C is ice cold which is amazing after being in the hot sun all day. Breakfast was delicious and having coffee on the balcony was honestly an experience I’ll remember for a long time. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. I was looking at a lot of options in Esperanza and I’m so happy we chose this one. We really just couldn’t have asked for a better time. I hope to return in the future and stay longer!!

We stayed here for 1 night in Vieques as we went for the bio bay tour. Amanda was SO WELCOMING. Upon arrival, she went over everything about the hotel, offered us free beach towels, and gave us a map of the whole island, she made amazing recommendations which was so HELPFUL as we were only on the island for 24 hours, that map was great! Thank you. The hotel is as described, it’s simple, but clean with a rooftoop to relax. The view of the mountains was also nice. We didn’t have any hand soap and Amanda quickly brought us some! The air conditioner worked great, we had a microwave and fridge in the room. The size of the room was great and space for 2 large suitcases. We had everything we needed. The bed was a bit too soft for our liking and the shower water wasn’t hot but we didn’t care too much since we were there for 1 night. Amanda also recommended a local trail along coconut beach that led to a swing on a coconut tree and it was great view and photo spot. She also recommended the local beaches, restaurants and the ceiba tree which was great to see. They offered to hold our bags after check out as well. The hotel also offers a great breakfast for 12 bucks! Everything was perfect. Because of Amanda, our short stay in vieques was efficient, stress free and fun! Thank you so much!

The two owners are from the US mainland and speak fluent English. They are also extremely organized and prepared. The day we arrived, there was a full island power outage but the Vieques Guesthouse has solar and generator and so we were able to sleep in AC and charge our devices. The front desk rents beach chairs and loan beach towels. They provided excellent communication prior to visit.

Yelp
Had a great stay here! Conveniently located just a 5 min walk from the main strip in Esperanza and about 10 min walk from the biobay tours and rental kiosks. The rooms were clean and comfy, if sparse, but had access to a gorgeous balcony which was a huge bonus. The water went out on the island (through no fault of the guesthouse, of course) and they stayed up late to provide guests with bottled water. The host/manager was so incredibly kind and helpful, providing recommendations, storing baggage while we went out and explored, and allowing us to use the restrooms and outdoor showers after our final beach day! I highly recommend staying here for a low-key, budget-friendly accommodation on Vieques.

Yelp
We chose to stay at the guesthouse in the pretty town of Esperanza and it did not disappoint. Amanda and Todd and their staff were the kindest! They have water available for you upon checking in, and if you communicate with them prior, you may be able to drop your bags off as you explore the island before check in. It's minutes from multiple beaches including the Esperanza beach of the malecón (main strip of the town). They will give you a map of places to check out for the different beaches and make sure you are comfortable on vacation! Beach equipment available to rent! Try to book a room on the third floor for pretty views of the bays and an easy walk up to the rooftop where you'll find chairs with a beautiful day and night view. Just seconds from the restaurants on the strip, a few markets, and the meeting points for biobay!

Yelp
This was a nice clean motel in Esperanza in walking distance (about 15 minutes) of the meeting spot for most of the bioluminescent tours (the streets are kind of dark though, be forewarned). It was inexpensive and quaint. The owner was friendly. They have a procedure for self check in if you come after hours. The owner was responsive by texts and phone. Her instructions were detailed and clear. In the morning you can get a complimentary pastry and hot tea or coffee. If you want a more substantive meal, you'll need to pay for it. One of the other people on the tour expressed disappointment because her expectation of a 5 star hotel was based on the hotels on the mainland or on San Juan (Hilton, Wyndham, etc). This is not that. I'm not knocking the area, but it's important to remember that Vieques isn't the mainland US. Vieques isn't San Juan. So the expectations have to be different. This is a very rustic, rural area. By the instructions they laid out (don't wash sand down the drains) and the room's features (interior clothesline) it's clear the setup is geared mainly for adventure travelers. This isn't a resort. So if you adjust your mindset accordingly, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Bright blue house isn't hard to find at all. Checked in 15 minutes early without a problem. Stayed in Room #11 on the 3rd floor. It was a hike up the stairs, but the view was amazing! Doors had a key pad so no keys to lose. There was rooftop access with a binocular mounted. Went up there for sunset and found 2 beach chairs to sit in. The neighbors patio was around the same height so I had an audience. Recommended raised planter beds to provide some privacy without blocking the views. Stairs at night were a little sketchy since some of the lights weren't on. They have beach equipment to checkout and continental breakfast included. Access to Coconut beach was awesome. Owners are really nice and recommended places to see and eat. Wish we stayed longer. Would stay here again

Yelp
This is an adorable and well-kept place. Fair price and great location for food and drinks in town. Great location for bioluminescent bay tour. Very safe and walkable. Beautiful balcony The owners are mostly very friendly and helpful, but don't speak Spanish and don't seem very integrated into the Boricua community. Also, I want to recommend that they put some kind of grip tape on the stairs--they got a little scary when I carried luggage down in the rain.

Yelp
I cannot say enough good about the Vieques Guest House. From the moment we checked in, we felt welcomed like family. The hotel is bright, clean, and fun! It is in an amazing location for walking to beaches, fun restaurants, and the local bioluminescent bay tour. The breakfast cafe was delicious. The staff was friendly and fun. The wild horses visited the hotel and gave us great entertainment. The cherry on the top was the above and beyond assistance we got when we got across the ferry only to realize we left our rental car keys at the hotel. Todd and Amanda jumped through hoops to help us get the keys as quickly as possible so we could continue our vacation on the main island. I could not recommend this small business enough!

Yelp
Stay here if you are coming to Vieques, you will thank yourself later! Amanda and Natalie were amazing, rooms were clean, perfect location in Esperanza, adorable lobby/cafe downstairs; I could go on and on about this place. We will definitely stay here again if/when we return to Vieques!

Yelp
Sharp stay in Esperanza! It was clean and comfortable. Steve & Niki were friendly and did a great job making us feel welcome despite the ongoing pandemic. We appreciated the beach towels, snorkel gear, and a kettle of coffee for the beach.

Yelp
Detoured to Vieques during our trip to San Juan for the bio bay tours. The guesthouse was a safe and walkable distance to Fun Brother's who we booked the tour with (and rented a golf cart from). Amanda and Natalie at the guest house were excellent from the second we booked until after we checked out. Amanda knows every good spot in Esperanza and was super helpful making recommendations and strategizing the best time and order to do things with the short time that we had. The room we had was a tad small but very clean with a new tv, fridge, and microwave. Doors are keypad locked so no need to keep track of a key. Very welcoming landings with chairs, tables, and views on our floor, and some seating on the rooftop with a view. There's also parking across the street for a rental car or rental golf cart which was a huge plus. 1 minute walk to coconut beach where you'll find nice sand, swings, wild horses, but not much swimming due to the stone shoreline. Sun bay beach is a 10 minute walk to the other end of the strip and Playa Negra is a short golf cart ride in the other direction. Amanda recommended Caracas beach to us on our second day, which is a 20 minute ride away by golf cart, and by far the nicest beach I've ever seen. Definitely recommend, will stay there again, and wish I stayed longer.

Yelp
Vieques Guesthouse was amazing! The owners are welcoming, very helpful and amazing people. Room was clean and at a good price. If you stay there you have access to borrow snorkels, beach balls, coolers, frisbee, towels and etc.. they also recommended to us a beach called Black Sand beach and Coconut Beach which was a minute walk from the hotel and IT IS BEAUTIFUL!!! Not many people know of it so you will probably be the only ones there. Wild horses hang out there so you know it's a good place. They were very nice to give us some Aloe Vera to place on our sun burned skin and that shows how they go above and beyond. Could improve on the breakfast but they would probably have to charge more on the rooms to do that. Overall a great experience and I would definitely be back!

Yelp
Fantastic accommodations. The owners are wonderful. They have all the necessities you need for a fun vacation. They have also been around long enough to recommend places to eat and excursions. The Guesthouse is constantly being upgraded and improved. If you're vacationing on Vieques, by all means stay here.

Yelp
Just spent a wonderful week at The Vieques Guesthouse in Esperanza. The owners, Steve and Niki, could not be more hospitable! They help you experience Vieques like a local and offer great recommendations. Their place is great and they're constantly making improvements on it. Best part - they have all the necessities (boogie boards, kayaks, towels, snorkel equipment, bugspray & more) for a great experience for rent there so you can just pack the basics and be set. The place is very walkable to great restaurants, bars, beaches and more. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This guest house is a great base from which to explore the island and is walking distance from the main tourist drag in Esperanza. It has scenic views from most of the rooms, which are modest but very clean and comfortable. The hosts are very friendly, with a wealth of local knowledge on where the best restaurants, snorkel spots, etc are and will rent out all kinds of beach equipment. Only downsides were spotty wifi signal and lack of sound proofing of the rooms especially since we got to overhear a drunken argument. Otherwise highly recommended.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough! My only complaint- that we didn't get to stay long enough! The owners are so friendly and accommodating. We showed up way earlier than check-in time and it was no problem at all to leave our stuff with them while we explored town. Steve and Niki took a lot of time to lay out the island for us, offer up tips for places to explore, and more. We pretty much went everywhere that they recommended and loved everything! In addition, if you are need of beach supplies, an electric bike, snorkeling gear, cold water- just about anything- they have it available to rent for reasonable prices. Our room was so clean, came with refillable shampoo/conditioner/soap which I loved (no tiny squirt bottles that run our), had AC and a fan, and near the beautiful roof deck, perfect for a sunset view! It's also a short walk (2 blocks?) outside of town, so it's away from all the hubbub of the downtown scene. Can't wait to come back!!

Yelp
Without a doubt, the best place to stay on the Island. Everyone asked where we were staying and all the locals had great things to say about Steve and Niki. They were very helpful in getting us settled in with things to do around the island and adventures to experience. The guesthouse itself is nice because its well maintained and there are areas to sit and hang out throughout the property and on the rooftop. There are items to rent such as electric bikes and beach gear if you need it. Across the street, there is a pathway to walk to the beach which is relatively secluded from the main beach in Esperanza. The walk to the main strip in Esperanza, the Malecon, is just 3 minutes and there are great places to eat, drink and chill on the beach. Honestly, we will return to the guesthouse on our next trip to Vieques because of the hospitality. Hands down a great place to stay.
