I had a very nice early dinner here one evening, and the food was great. Both the flavor and the prices were wonderful. I had the chicken fried steak, and that came with two sides (I chose broccoli cheese soup and mashed potatoes). It was all very flavorful, and the soup really stood out to me as one of the best versions of that flavor I’ve ever had. I also got apricot pie for dessert. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the whole place felt nice and homey. It may be a bit old fashioned, but that really works here. Sometimes nothing needs to change. I’d definitely recommend Village Inn for a nice casual meal.

This is one of the greatest little restaurants you'll ever find! If you want good food and an affordable price this is the place to stop in. The chicken is better than any chicken out of Frankenmuth Michigan, he pie as the wife said was "to die for" and their soups are amazing. If you're passing through this is the place to eat !The staff is awesome, kind and friendly a throwback to the old days when people were nice. Don't miss your opportunity to try an American classic, will definitely return time and time again. God bless your little restaurant.

Village Inn has the appearance of a small town diner. It is worthwhile to look at their daily special board to see what pies are available that day. Memorable meals include ham loaf with mashed potatoes and various pies. Some of their workers are Amish. I have ordered whole pies for holidays from them in the past, as well, and they were fine.

Google
Found this cute little diner while looking for a restaurant. We walked in near closing time on October 24, 2024. The wait staff was very kind. They provided exceptional service, and told us to take our time eating. The food was delicious!! No complaints only complements. We are from Michigan. Visiting the area to attend a concert in Shipshewana.

Nice friendly hometown restaurant. American homecooked meals. Clean, good seating, and variety menu. Fresh baked pies!

Google
Very welcoming. My waitress was great and even left a joke on my bill. I had the beef Manhattan and chocolate and peanut butter pie. I was worried the pie would be overwhelming but it was perfect!

Google
There were 7 tables in the place when we walked in. Took waitress who was busy eating 5min to come take our order. After 25 min we asked where our food was And she told us there were a few tickets in front of ours. 😳What?? We ordered Biscuits and gravy?! Unacceptable. She used the 'two groups' that were eating as an excuse... there were 4 people in said 'groups'. Someone needs a lesson on how to run a restaurant

Yelp
Man if I lived in Middlebury I would eat here every day if I could! Visiting family in the area they said the food in this Amish restaurant was good and they weren't lying. Step in and it's almost a step back in time. Small town diner vibe with sweet Amish waitresses who are happy to take your order. We all went ahead and ordered their chicken salad on pretzel buns with various sides. I had their potato salad as a side and couldn't get over how delicious it was. The chicken salad was just as delicious and the pretzel bun was soft and flavorful. You just don't get food like this in big cities! Although we came here for lunch, looking at the dinner options makes me want to one day come back to this place!

Yelp
WE LOVED THIS PLACE. Hands down, my new favorite bacon. First time ever having it deep fried and I see life in a new way. :) It does not make it heavier in fat at all... it actually balances out the fat and cooks it consistently for the perfect light crisp the whole way through. Highly recommend trying it! Also, if you want to surround yourself with sweet people, go here for the staff. Miriam was our waitress twice and we absolutely adored her. Food was great every time... you'll never go wrong with authentic Amish cooking and the prices were more than reasonable, too. The interior is what you would expect for a quaint, small town diner - a little dated and cozy. We will come back here, probably multiple times, every time we visit Middlebury. Thank you!

Yelp
Worst Manhattan I have ever had in my 55 years soooo disappointed!!!! This is roast beef???? I looks like meatloaf not sure what it tasted like and the gravy was burnt tasting I threw it away after 3 bites

Yelp
We eat here every time we come to Coachmen for van service. We love the food & the service is always great! They open early which is good for us & the place is pretty well full most of the time. Today we shared the large scramble with eggs, cheese, hash browns & sausage gravy. Delicious!

Dylan D.

Yelp
Great service and good prices. The food is pretty good for your standard breakfast and or lunch restaurant.

Marieann B.

Yelp
This was our go to place for breakfast when stopping for service at Entegra Coach. Delicious food, hot and fast. No longer the case, stopped yesterday and waited awhile to even get a menu. Then the waitress waited on the person behind us that had gotten there after us. When our order came, it was cooked wrong, cold and was just not good. The toast and pancake were dry and hard. Too bad for the Amish that work there.

Yelp
While on our way for a day of shopping in Shipshewana we stopped to grab breakfast at the Village Inn. First thought how can you go wrong with breakfast in the biggest Amish District in Indiana? Well we found out yes you can go wrong. The eggs were cooked perfect, the hash browns are flavorless, the butter on the toast was unrecognizable and it was not butter, the sausage in the gravy tasted like old boar, and the bacon was deep fried in the fryer and had to come from a 30 year old boar. It was just nasty. Do better Village Inn do better.

Yelp
Such a great place to eat! The coffee was plentiful and smooth, the omelettes were delicious, and our server, Miriam, was delightful. Yum! We will be back for the pies!

Lisa L.

Yelp
Several establishments were recommended when we arrived in Indiana and this was one. Seriously I could have gone without but I'm willing to try when recommended. The restaurant needs some serious modifications to the decor. With that being said, the food is as lackluster and extremely salty in my and the spouse's opinion. I choose the Manhattan which I had at another establishment that was fantastic. This one, not so. The mashed potatoes were bland but real tasting but the gravy tasted as though it was canned and loaded with salt; then there's the meat, not tender at all; pulled stringy and dry. It was a disappointment compared to my first sandwich. Service was good.

Yelp
Diner style restaurant breakfast or lunches. Typical diner food and atmosphere in here
google avatar

Yelp
When you think small-town American restaurant, the image that pops up in your head in probably something like the Village Inn Restaurant. It's small, simple and there's plenty of locals. The omelettes are nothing special but they get the job done. They also have pie, but I didn't get any as none of the flavors for that day piqued my interest.
google avatar

Yelp
I ate here several weeks ago. I would avoid this place. Their food was extremely terrible. Gravy from a can. They have terrible service and the coffee tasted a day old. This restaurant has got a lot of hype for being good and it was recommended to me but to be honest go to Hilltop Resturaunt or to Essenhause. If you are from out of town pass this place up as a stop. The people in charge didn't even ask how everything was all they were interested in was collecting peoples money. Spend your money elsewhere.

Yelp
Good little restaurant! Food is great, friendly hometown folks. Worth the stop and very affordable if you're taking your kids. Fun to walk the shops next door too.

Yelp
If you are used to the Village Inn chain of restaurants, know that this is not like those. This is a small diner with a limited menu. We are here for breakfast. I ordered a Western Omelet and my wife ordered something called Sunrise. The omelet is $7 and only comes with toast. I added hashbrowns for another $3. The eggs are fresh but the rest of the ingredients in the omelet are not. The ham looked and tasted like sliced up lunchmeat and the mushrooms came from a can. Do not recommend the omelet. The Sunrise was bacon, eggs, and pancakes. The bacon was very good, pancakes are average and the eggs are fresh. Hard to mess this up. For the mixed review, some good and some not good but in the end, not worth the price. I'll give two stars and we won't be back.

Yelp
Went for breakfast had the hash browns, eggs and sausage everything was great sausage tasted fresh. Ours server was witty and fast. Its a little place but was comfortable.
google avatar

Brian V.

Yelp
Great Food, even better price and nice people. Our food was fantastic, the pancake was HUGE! A tad dense but still good. The sausage patties are delicious and also very large. The place was packed (covid conscience?? NOPE!!!!-- packed at every table) This is that small town cafe that Norman Rockwell would paint, charm spewing from every corner of this old school spot. The bathrooms are up a flight of stairs, so keep that in mind if you have problems climbing stairs). I will definitely return, they know how a simple breakfast should be done, and they mastered it.

Yelp
Will be heading to Middlebury again soon This is a must stop food destination. Pizza is an 11 out of 10!

Yelp
Food was really good. Service was mostly attentive. I had to get up once to get someone's attention, but that's ok. I had the cowboy burger, which was flavorful and juicy, with a very nice bun. I paired it with their clam chowder which was savory and really hit the spot. For dessert I tried their chocolate chip mint pie, which was different but really good. Overall if you wanted a place that had a similar Amish feel to Essenhaus but wanted something smaller and more mom n pop, this place is it!
google avatar

Yelp
A fascinating small town diner/restaurant, especially considering the connection to the local Mennonite citizens. Waitresses wear traditional dresses and cloth head-cap. And, oh my, THE PIE!!! They had 10 choices for our late lunch today including a unique "Bob and Andy" which is a custard variation. Three meals daily; breakfast served all day. My soup was so thick that a spoon could stand up straight in it
google avatar

Yelp
The best country fried steak I've ever eaten, wonderful locals to chat with and amazing service !!!
google avatar

Jo K.

Yelp
2nd time here in a week, and we love it here. Great food and atmosphere. Real eggs are used, the bacon is delicious and cooked to perfection, and the pancakes are perfect. We'd come here for breakfast every day if we could.

Rob M.

Yelp
Can beat Village Inn if you want a traditional homemade breakfast in an old fashioned environment where you might not even know the person sitting across the table in the seat yourself, first come first serve style.
google avatar

Linda J.

Yelp
Good food; good service, good prices. Pretty limited menu. Food much better than Essenhaus at a fraction of price!.

Coleman M.

Yelp
Hate to give Village Inn anything but a 5 star so this is tough lol. They got my order slightly wrong but food was still great and atmosphere was perfect.
google avatar

Randy J.

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic hometown Amish cafe style restaurant, this qualifies. With certain menu items you can't often find in other restaurants; fried mush with tomato gravy or head cheese to name a couple. However there is the traditional choices for breakfast and lunch with plenty to choose from. The service is good and the staff is friendly.

Yelp
Typical small town restaurant with really friendly staff. Neat and clean. Fantastic home cooking with a lot of Amish influence. A favorite stop whenever I have the time. GREAT PIES!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a great example of the hometown, family owned restaurants in the Midwest. Lots of homemade items, and the pies are to die for. I took a young visitor & he loved their pizza so much we went back twice in one week. Fresh made soups daily. If you see the white chicken chili, get it. Delicious! If you see the pie you want, order it first. They may run out by dessert. Enjoy!

Yelp
Very good comfort food. Attentive waiting staff. Home made desserts. Low prices, on street parking in a small town.

Susan M.

Yelp
This is a little local diner - not a big tourist place - so it's not the equivalent of an Essenhaus. But for what it is, it's very good - I give it 5 stars. New owners last year (two Amish sisters) and they really brightened up the place. Good service, good prices, good food, down-home local atmosphere.

Karen J.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and good service. The prices just can't be beat! Waitress forgot to bring cream for our coffee but the coffee was so good we didn't miss it. Very fast service as well. Worth a return visit!

Karen W.

Yelp
Great breakfast and very reasonable. Good variety. Under new owners I think - definitely worth coming in. They were crowded but service was still great and food came in a reasonable amount of time. Great little place for some home cooking style food!
google avatar

Debbie B.

Yelp
I was there two years ago, with the prior owners. Everything we ate was the best!! The Western omelettes are awesome, and the biscuits and gravy were the best! I am going back in two days, and will give the new owner one try. So scared, that I will be disappointed. I sure hope not!!

Cathy K.

Yelp
I stopped in the village inn restaurant and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and the bean with bacon soup. I was so surprised that neither were over salted especially the soup and they used real mayonnaise and not miracle whip!!!! I come to Middlebury about every three months to visit family and have eaten at almost all of the restaurants in Middlebury but the food I got at the village inn was by far the best - primarily because the food was not too salty and they don't put sugar in things that shouldn't be sweet. I will be back in a few months and will try more from the village inn. Great service too :)

Yelp
This is somewhere between a 1 and a 2 star review, but I'll err on the side of rounding down. My party rolled in around 11:15 wanting breakfast to help us through a rough morning. Unfortunately, the Village Inn stops serving breakfast at 11. We could order simple eggs and potatoes if we wanted, though, which is what I did. We were disappointed that we couldn't get omelettes so close to the arbitrary breakfast end time. Biscuits and gravy happened to be on special all day, so 2 of my party members opted for that. I was pretty happy with my eggs and hash browns. The biscuits and gravy, though, were just not good. I assumed the gravy would be sausage gravy, but it didn't really taste like any sausage gravy I've ever had. My best guess as to its taste is that it was made with beef drippings rather than breakfast sausage. I found it pretty gross. The service wasn't great, the coffee wasn't strong, and the food wasn't tasty. The Village Inn was cheap, but I would not recommend coming here for a lazy breakfast.

Brodie D.

Yelp
This is right downtown with lots of seating. Opens early for breakfast with lunch specials daily. We love their pizza. If you like a supreme get their super deluxe you will never be disappointed on the toppings but you better hold the bottom of the heavy box when carrying it out! My opinion best pies around. My favorite is blueberry sour cream! Only downfall is Saturday's they close super early(1:00 or 2:00) so this is not an option for Saturday evening pizza

Caid L.

Yelp
Very bad with new owners. You can tell they started to buy cheaper and lower quality food. "Village Inn Scrambler" was very bland and the cheap cheese slices weren't even melted. The cinnamon roll was like one you bake in oven too long. Waitresses didn't seem to care about the customers.
google avatar

Alexis M.

Yelp
I love the village inn! I always used to come here with friends for breakfast and today I had the chance to go back. I always get their baked oatmeal which is delicious. They are always changing which type of fruit goes into it, so you will have to ask what the flavor is before you get it! I have never disliked any of the flavors, but peach was definitely my favorite. I also like their French toast when I am not in the mood for oatmeal. My boyfriend loves their biscuits and gravy. Such a great little family owned restaurant. I can't wait to visit again.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Best breakfast in town. Order the biscuits and gravy. Lunch and dinner are mediocre at best.

Teresa H.

Yelp
Had hot vegetable beef soup absolutely yummy! Just like grandma makes. Waited on quickly/polite staff/ hot coffee. Husband had tasty chili served hot and peanut butter chocolate pie #outstanding crust! Off day for the cherry pie/ gluey sent back they took off bill. Parked right out front. Reduced winter hours be aware if you go. Handicap ramp bathrooms are upstairs
google avatar

Thomas C.

Yelp
Best sausage and gravy ever, great corned beef hash, super hot chocolate and the best pies ever
google avatar

Julie T.

Yelp
I had eaten here a few years ago on our way out west and remembered it to stop with my mom on the way to Chicago. So glad we did. We shared a fried chicken dinner for lunch that was amazing. Real mashed potatoes with fantastic gravy. The nicest touch was the fresh thick sliced wheat bread that came with our meal. Alas, we were too full for dessert, but the pies looked yummy!
google avatar

Yelp
Great family spot. Pork chops and wings were great and service was super friendly. This was a great choice after driving for ~8 hours instead of fast food.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
Simply one of my favorite places for Chicken and Dressing and Rhubarb Custard Pie!

Steve W.

Yelp
Would not recommend this place to anyone. We were with four family members and the food was brought out separately, like 5-10 min apart. We ordered a pizza. Ours was to come out last but we never got it. They said there was a mix up. The family was completely done eating and our pizza still was not done. There were 4 tables of people who arrived after us and ordered after us. They received their food which was pizza also. No apology whatsoever from anyone working there. Horrible customer service!! No wonder the place is for sale!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
This is your typical greasy spoon. We come here for breakfast a lot - and occasionally for lunch. My stepson is a pancake expert and he likes them here. That's a plus. My stepdaughter is a baked oatmeal or biscuits and gravy girl (usually). She always cleans her plate. My husband eats eggs or omelettes, sometimes with corned beef hash (911 burned, just the way he orders it). And, I'm a fan of the blt with a side salad. It's nothing special to most oeople, but when we find a restaurant that everyone can agree on, it's worthy of a fourth star. It's also close to home, which is a bonus.
google avatar

Derrick P.

Yelp
Another ok place to go if your in a pinch. Price is ok, food is ok, service is so so. The pie they do have is the best in town, but will not improve my rating.
google avatar

Tim V.

Yelp
The Meal I ordered was the two piece chicken, the chicken was the smallest pieces of chicken I have ever seen a restaurant serve. Chicken was bone dry, I talk to my waitress and said this chicken need to be replaced, The owner came over and started harass me because I did not like the chicken, I told him the price I was paying for this meal, the pieces chicken were way too small and they would bone dry. He continued to be rude, and was upset with me because I did not like the food. He said if I don't like his wife's cooking I shouldn't come there. This is the first time I've been here very long time, I Used to come to the village inn m many times in the past and since this new owner is taking over I have never been treated more rudely the service was terrible the food was not worth the money. I would never go to this place again and will recommend that no one order the two piece chicken or even have service done at this place. They was the rudest customer service I have ever been to.

Jamey L.

Yelp
I love the village inn. It's a very simple place. Very homey and cozy. It's nice to get coffee with a friend here.

Chris L.

Yelp
Great breakfast food and pies! Only downside is there not open Saturday nights or Sunday's.
