Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward Packs a Cultural and Culinary Punch

"Lakeysha Hallmon founded the The Village at PCM to showcase the city's Black entrepreneurs. The chic space brings together 25 local, Black-owned brands under one roof. The products rotate to give more brands a chance to sell their wares, but you’ll always find home decor, lifestyle goods, and apparel."

Stepping into The Village Retail at Ponce City Market felt like entering a vibrant, curated space full of energy and heart. I visited with my husband, and from the moment we walked in, the team made us feel so welcome. They were not only helpful and attentive but genuinely interested in getting to know us. We shared the story of how we met and our journey together, and they lit up. It felt like catching up with old friends rather than shopping with strangers. The variety of vendors was incredible. From beautifully crafted candles and skincare to stylish clothing and accessories, every corner was filled with thoughtfully curated finds. I ended up purchasing the cutest jumpsuit (shown in the photos), versatile enough to wear to work and effortlessly chic for brunch with friends. It instantly became a favorite in my wardrobe. Another reason I’ll be returning often is that they receive new inventory every week. Whether you're looking for a unique gift or just browsing for yourself, there’s always something fresh and exciting to discover. The Village Retail is more than a shopping destination. It’s a celebration of community, creativity, and authentic connection.

The Village Retail is a vibrant marketplace showcasing goods from around 25 local Black entrepreneurs. Founded by Atlantan Dr. Lakeysha Hallmon, the creator of The Village Market, it’s a beautifully curated shopping experience that features an array of quality and one-of-a-kind products from local, Black-owned brands. The space itself is inviting and well-organized, making it easy to explore and discover new favorites. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, ready to share the stories behind the brands and products. It’s more than just a store; it’s a community hub that celebrates and uplifts local Black entrepreneurs. Whether you’re looking for a unique gift or something special for yourself, The Village Retail offers a shopping experience that’s both meaningful and enjoyable. It’s a must-visit spot in PCM that adds depth and diversity to the market’s offerings.

I love everything about supporting black businesses in any way I can. This store strives to give smaller black owned businesses a platform to sell their products. Every product is high quality and is definitely worth the money. The workers are so sweet and gave me a great shopping experience! I will definitely be back.

Village Retail is truly a gem! From the moment I walked in, I was blown away by the intentionality and beauty of the space. It’s so refreshing to see a store completely dedicated to uplifting and showcasing small Black-owned businesses. Every corner felt like it had purpose, and you could tell that each brand was chosen with care. One of my favorite parts was being able to interact with the products—so many samples were open and available for us to smell, touch, and test, which made the experience feel immersive and personal. I loved being able to feel the textures and enjoy the fragrances before making a purchase. It showed a level of trust and hospitality that you don’t always find in retail spaces. The setup was gorgeous, the vibe was welcoming, and the customer service was just as amazing. I left feeling inspired and proud to support such a thoughtful marketplace. If you’re ever in the area, Village Retail is a must-visit. I’ll definitely be back!

I had an amazing experience at this black-owned shop! From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a warm, friendly atmosphere that perfectly reflected the spirit of the brand. The store is beautifully curated, with a great selection of items that highlight not only quality but also a vibrant story of cultural heritage and community pride. I decided to purchase a t-shirt, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The design is unique, the fabric is soft and well-made, and it quickly became one of my favorite wardrobe pieces. The staff took the time to explain the inspiration behind the design and shared some fascinating insights into the brand’s mission and vision. What truly stood out was the level of customer service. The team was knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about what they do, making my shopping experience truly personalized and enjoyable. They created an inviting space where every customer feels valued and celebrated. Overall, this shop is not just a place to buy trendy, high-quality apparel—it’s a hub of creativity and culture. I highly recommend stopping by and supporting this inspiring business, especially if you’re looking to invest in something that represents much more than just a stylish outfit.

Google
What a wonderful shop, beautifully curated with all kinds of artists and creators and little QR codes where you can learn about everybody. Love this place and got the book as well from Dr Lakeysha Hallmon about its origins, cannot wait to read it

Yelp
Cool shop in Ponce City Market, a wide selection of black-owned items like clothing (men/women), accessories, jewelry, games and items for kids. Tons of cool items for friends, family, or that special person. Please support your local black-owned vendors. This is going to be on my list of must-stop places when its time for me to pick up gifts.

Yelp
I enjoyed visiting The Village Retail and shopping the wide selection of Black Owned Vendors. They literally had everything to offer from books, to jewelry, clothing, accessories, games, educational material for children, hair care products, skincare products, home goods and decor, nicknacks and more. I highly recommend if you're looking to support or keep black dollars circulating to stop here first. You'd be surprise what you can find for yourself or even someone else. I also love that they offer a Sunday Market which allows for vendors who may or may not be in the store to pop up on Sundays to sell their goods/services. There is a link on their website to apply to be a vendor but I came on both Mother's Day and Juneteenth weekend to shop the vendor selection and I was pretty impressed by the amount of sellers to support!

Yelp
Made the drive over to shop and support. The Village Retail sells products from minority owned businesses. It's a one stop shop to pick up items from your favorite company and provides the opportunity to discover new products. After seeing several "Support Is A Verb" pictures on Instagram and reading about the mission & purpose of their shop, it was a no brainer to go support. They also have teas from my favorite tea company "Just Add Honey" for sale. The retail space is welcoming and the staff is friendly. Great customer service (I asked a million questions, lol). There is a small area where you can try on clothing if needed. I purchased a candle by Sophie Rose Candle Co. which the pineapple & sage candle smells amazing. I also purchased a couple of other items. If you're in the area, stop by. It's an amazing space. And take a pic! Did I mention everything is minority owned

Yelp
I had the most amazing experience at this store. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable and they are currently featuring 40 black owned businesses under one roof! It was so fun checking out the different types of products and having a chance to support small businesses! I wish we had one in Los Angeles too !

Yelp
OMG ... this is an awesome, awesome find! Black owned business located on the second floor in Ponce City Market (across from Bar Vegan). I wasn't certain what to expect, but everything from the layout, products, and vibe were on point. I went in solely to purchase a sleep aid and walked out with shopping bags filled with clothing that spoke for me, a beautiful puzzle, vitamins ... all by black owned manufacturers. Items are upscale and a bit on the pricier side, but by far worth it. The Village Retail is my new favorite store in Atlanta and I will definitely return.

Yelp
A friend and I went to PCM just to get out of the house and walk around. We walked the beltline first then came to the Village Market because I've never been. I was overwhelmed with how many different products were here to choose from, but also excited. I was already planning my shopping spree for the upcoming week in my head. I love how there are so many different companies represented. The space looks amazing too. I love the setup. The vibe in this space is amazing. The support is a verb wall is my favorite spot. My friend found a jacket from the company Weathered not Worn and tried it on. It fit her perfectly and looked amazing on her and it was the last one in her size. We get to the register ready to make this purchase and the associate says he can't sell it to her because it wasn't supposed to be on the sales floor. Say what now? He said something about certain sizes had to be pulled and that the barcode he scanned didn't register anything so he couldn't sell it. This experience will not keep me from supporting black businesses. It was definitely frustrating and a bit unacceptable. I may not understand though. Outside of the experience of finding something and not being able to buy it, I enjoyed my visit to the Village Market's PCM location. I can't wait to come back to do some shopping for myself.

Yelp
I traveled ATL from Phoenix, AZ, and decided to visit the Village Market PCM location during a recent trip and was truly impressed and inspired by this location. The moment you step into the space you can feel that this place is different. I am a strong supporter of black-owned businesses and there are so many businesses within this location. I had to take a few photos and share them with my ATL/PHX peeps because this place is extremely unique, if you are looking for candles, clothing, health products, skin treatment, accessories, travel bags... this store has it all, and these products are being sold by black-owned companies. One of my favorite items purchased was this beard oil from Koils by Nature. Fellas, listen to me, I have used a variety of beard oil, and they all leave your beard oily, too shiny, and hands greasy. This beard oil smells amazingly fresh, gives my beard a natural glow, and moisturizes my skin under the beard, oh and did I mention that it's black-owned! I can't wait to return to ATL to visit the store again, but the cool thing is you can also shop online for their products. If you are in ATL please check them out you will not be disappointed. I am crossing my fingers that the Village Market Retail comes to the West Coast specifically Phoenix LOL!

Yelp
The store is a whole vibe, the welcoming and appearance and great merchandise. I was impressed with the friendly, courteous staff. There was a large selection of items to choose from. If in Atlanta area, you have to stop in and treat yourself to something nice.

Yelp
The store is beautifully curated with a variety of black brands to shop in all categories. The associates and store manager are friendly and attentive. Its definitely a place to shop and feel proud to support black businesses. On the weekends they even have in-store pop-ups and activations too, its a whole vibe!

Yelp
Walked in while visiting ATL. Immediately was drawn into just the energy and the vibe of the store. Met the manager there and even though I only planned on spending maybe 40$ to support our people I spent 400$ and plan on buying more online. Great products, great merchandise, and games. Will definitely visit again. Love it

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere that I loved! I did not want to leave. I enjoyed snapping a pic with my goodies in front of the greenery wall! Support is a verb!!! Let's get goin!

Yelp
My first time going to The Village Retail I was impressed by the aesthetics of the store. I had previously heard of them through The Village Marketplace and knew that they catered to small black-owned businesses. It was nice to see our own businesses in a dedicated retail space in a place such as Ponce City Market and the quality of products to match. Great staff and customer service experience which made my visit 5 stars. I will definitely be visiting the store again soon.

Yelp
The store is a very pleasant environment. Immediately upon entering, I felt liked I was "home". There's a great selection of items for personal use or to gift.

Yelp
I had family in town and I took them to Ponce City Market so they can explore a good variety of what Atlanta has to offer. We stumbled upon The Village Retail and it was everything Atlanta had to offer in one store. We had such a great time! I highly recommend to visit if you are local or visiting from out of town.
