On the Grid : The Village

"Situated along the axis of Glenwood and Flat Shoals, East Atlanta Village provides convenient creature comforts for its immediate neighbors and draws in crowds from across metro Atlanta on nights and weekends. Anchored by institutions like the EARL (East Atlanta Restaurant & Lounge), Mary’s (named the best gay bar in the country several years ago), and Joe’s (no Starbucks in this village), and featuring an eclectic array of independent shops, eateries, and services (you can get your eyebrows threaded, your feet massaged, and a custom t-shirt made all on the same block, then run across the street for a banh mi), EAV is perfect for an afternoon stroll or the place to make a whole night of it. Interesting artwork—the metallic dragon and a huge mural of a fox and crocodile doing battle being our favorites—adds character and embodies the creative spirit of the neighborhood." - Treebird Branding

These guys saved my cat’s life from succumbing to urinary blockage . He was fully blocked and they saved his life with the limited funds I had available. (So for anyone saying they only care about money that’s just not true, if it was they would have turned me away. But they didn’t) the very experienced doctor found a way 🙏 forever grateful to her and every single person here I interacted with. Without them I would be mourning right now. They were also highly responsive whenever I called for updates on my pet or help with his aftercare medication. Thank you guys again . 10 stars

Megan and Dr. Hand were SO helpful and kind and patient. I brought my 18 year old cat into the vet today and they immediately took care of her. They recommended a lot of good options and were very thorough with explaining what was going on with my cat.

On what would have been my German Shepherd's 2nd birthday, I am heartbroken to share the tragic story of how he died 2 weeks ago under the care of the Village Vet clinic. Our dog, Chess, was seen by Dr. Patterson, Dr. Will, and other staff members. We brought Chess in because he was throwing up and dehydrated. His health was improving; however, after a staff member took him to the back for vital signs, his health rapidly declined. We knew nothing of this decline until we were asked to pay more money. While he was in their care, we were repeatedly denied access to see him, despite our constant pleas. Communication from the clinic was scarce and felt intentionally misleading. During this time, we were subjected to constant and increasing requests for payment increases, which felt like a predatory tactic to exploit our emotions. In the end, we paid $1190 but never received a clear explanation for Chess's death. We have requested footage from the clinic to understand what happened during the time he was in their care, but they have refused to release it. A staff member named Tomeka even admitted to watching the video herself. We believe Chess died a slow, unnecessary death as a result of the clinic's negligence and focus on profit over patient care. If you are a pet owner considering this clinic, please be cautious. I urge you to save your pet and your money. If you have had a similar experience, please reach out to us. We will be sharing video footage of our experience soon.

I had the worst experience at this vet. First, I will say that the doctor was lovely and competent. However, the receptionist and vet tech were rude, unprofessional, and should never work in pet care. The receptionist who greeted me immediately told me (before I even told her what’s wrong with my dog) that “you’ve arrived during a shift change and you’ll have to wait AT LEAST an hour”, as if to encourage me to leave. She wouldn’t even look up from her computer to make eye contact. The vet tech then came out, said the same thing before asking any questions. It was as if they didn’t want to work and hoped everyone would just leave. The vet tech asked me one question, and that’s it - when I tried to give details she cut me off. We waited in the waiting room for an hour, my dog shaking and scared. When we go back to triage we wait another hour. The vet tech asks for my dog’s leash. I told her that he cannot walk. She yanks the leash on him and says “see? He can walk!” And haphazardly takes him with her. When she returns him she carried him like a rag doll and practically threw him at me. I later found out he has a neck injury. A person like this should never work with animals. I also heard her talking about me and being mean to my dog behind closed doors. She wasn’t even trying to not be heard. She was practically shouting. The doctor was helpful and professional. She seemed to be very knowledgeable, although I am worried now after reading these reviews. I told her about my experience and she made a face that told me “this happens all the time around here.” Again, none of this surprises me now after reading the reviews and the REPLIES from the vets and receptionist that work there. The receptionist (a different one) who checked me out was SO rude to the elderly man in front of me. The way she spoke to him was unacceptable. I will never ever go back here. Very few people in this building actually care about animals or their owners.

These folks are Lifesavers! The puppy we are taking care of walked into an anthill this morning and was ferociously attacked. She immediately started swelling up, turning red, and developing lumps all over her body. Since it's Sunday we couldn't take her to the nearest vet. I googled Village Vets. When we called we explained what happened. We were told to give her Benadryl. After we were able to get a dose in her she started to feel somewhat better and the swelling started going down. I was glad they were able to help us!

I had a good visit despite the circumstances. I was reffered here from another vet clinic as I needed emergency treatment for my dog. The staff as a whole was quite nice. My dog received a gun shot wound from a ... startled neighbor.. however, my dog was taken straight away on arrival. He didn't need surgery, thankfully, and the payment options were very flexible. The turn around was within 3 hours. Everyone there was truly nice and I'd come back again.

I do not recommend this vet at all. I rushed my dog there last night after speaking with them on the phone. It must’ve been a different person because after waiting at the desk for several minutes, someone came in and said they had numerous urgent cases and that it would be HOURS before we could be seen, which is the exact opposite of what I was told on the phone. There were 3 cars in the parking lot and one was mine and not a person in sight. My dog was vomiting, his bowel movements were all blood and he was lethargic. I carried him out and drove to another vet who got him right in. He was admitted for overnight care. The staff at Village Vet were content to just let my dog possibly die than to do their actual job.

I cannot express more appreciation and love for Dr. Calcutt. Very suddenly, we had to make the tough decision to put down our 11 year old cat and Dr. Calcutt was so extremely compassionate, understanding, patient, and informative. We are devastated to lose our baby but beyond relieved that her last hours were in the mercy and care of Dr. Calcutt. Everyone at The Village Vets was kind and patient with me and my grieving family while we discussed what was best for our cat and how to move forward. If (God forbid) either of my other two cats need emergency treatment, The Village Vets will be, without a doubt, the place I take them first. Thank you so much for everything you did for us! We are so grateful for your staff and the work you do!

Yelp
TLDR: I'm so grateful for Dr. Hines and staff!! I would definitely recommend taking your pet here when you're in a pinch. I brought my cat in around 8:45 pm because she ate a long strip of packaging-- I called and they advised to bring her in immediately. I only waited about 10 minutes before they were able to take her back. At first I was a bit unnerved because the front desk staff, although helpful, didn't seem overly concerned and when someone came back to grab my cat, they didn't ask her name or details of what happened. They took her to the back and asked me to wait, then when they came to escort me to the back room, I thought my cat would be in the room, but she wasn't. They sat me in the tiny individual waiting room and said the doctor would be in soon. I still wasn't sure where they took my cat. I wasn't very impressed with this piece (and no one directed me back to the lobby once done, and I got lost in the process), but the care itself was fantastic. With that being said, Dr. Hines was super great and explained the options to me-- long story short, they were able to induce vomiting quite quickly so we didn't have to do surgery. One of the staff did let me know prior that vomiting isn't usually successful, so I wasn't hopeful. But I was in and out within an hour and my cat was in good spirits once home. Plus the bill wasn't too expensive, which was a plus! Super grateful how quickly and efficiently they were able to take care of my cat.

Yelp
Went there to have my dog treated for cough and gave meds and she got better. Cost was fine.

Yelp
Dr. Morgan's staff saved our night. Brought my dog here due to nonstop Whimpering. At first it seemed like they didn't care much, but they're just a very calm team. That helped me not freak out as well. After they brought her to the back, she came back all brand new. Urinalysis was done in a timely manner, and payment was reasonable. Would I recommend? Yes Would I come back? In an emergency, I wouldn't mind making them the first choice.

Yelp
If I could give half a star, I would. I took my teacup Yorkie to this clinic in the middle of the night because he was dying of hypoglycemia. They put him on fluids and administered medicine to raise his blood sugar. To even begin treatment, we had to pay a $770 deposit. After a wait, a vet finally came in and listed a long list of tests and treatments they claimed he needed to find out what might be wrong with him--even though the vet had already agreed with my suspicion of hypoglycemia. When I asked for a cost estimate, she left to get a total. A different person returned and told us the cost would be between $3,200 and $5,200, depending on how much we could afford, for a 24-hour stay. They anticipated he would need to stay multiple days. Since this had happened when he was a puppy, and he had only needed fluids and dextrose to stabilize, I told them I couldn't afford this amount. The staff member went back to speak with the vet, and they managed to lower the cost to $2,300. I explained that if I had the money, I would pay anything to save my dog. Her reply was, "Yeah, everyone would." I then asked if the $770 I had already paid would cover the initial medication I knew he needed and explained this was already a financial stretch. She left to calculate what had already been done for him, though I doubted much had been administered since my dog had experienced the same issue before and only needed basic fluids and medication. When we confirmed that we couldn't pay more than the $770 we'd already paid, she left, disconnected him from the fluids we had paid for, and brought him back to us, saying, "Good luck." Upon checkout, we were told aftercare instructions would be emailed to us, but we never received anything. If they had actually provided the necessary fluids and blood sugar medication--which I believe $770 should have covered--my dog might not have died 20 minutes after leaving. They offered no payment plan or care credit. All this to say: if you can find care anywhere else, I'd recommend doing so. This clinic clearly cares more about money than the animals they treat.

Yelp
The vets I've actually seen here are great, but the entire experience is terrible. I waited over three hours to see a vet on Saturday, and finally just opted to leave and go to Blue Pearl, which has more than one vet working on weekends. Before I opted to go, I asked how much longer the wait might be; I was told it was due to a shift change (...for three hours?) and that "the vet has arrived now" (was the vet not there before?). While all this was happening, someone else emerged from one of the exam rooms because she was worried she'd been forgotten, as she'd been back there for 2.5 hours and at the office itself for over five. The front desk staff was impersonal and dismissive, which is rough when you're already worrying over a sick dog. The waiting room itself is uncomfortable to wait in for thirty minutes, nevermind many hours. If I ever had a pet in a true life-or-death emergency situation, I would go straight to Blue Pearl and skip this place entirely. It's farther away and costlier, but they actually have people working there.

Yelp
0 stars. Had a very traumatic experience with my dog for the first time. He was bit by a dog at a park. My vet was closed but referred me to this place as I'm very familiar with the area and live in Decatur. The lady that answered the phone on Sunday, Feb 2nd at 3:45pm was beyond rude. She even hung up on me after I let her know she was being rude. I do not recommend this place. The staff is clearly unprofessional and couldn't care less about this line of work.

Yelp
Brought my dog in for chocolate ingestion at the recommendation of our normal vet. Of course it was super dark chocolate so I was in a pretty good panic. Front desk staff was super nice and understanding of my tears. Told me I would wait 5 min, it was about that when I was brought to an exam room. A Vet tech saw me almost immediately to explain the process- they'd induce vomiting then go from there. Took her back, and then about 15 min later brought her back and I got to see the vomit (definitely chocolate). They were so nice and informative. Then told me they'd call poison control for a recommendation on the amount of chocolate and treatment, and after they get that info the doc would see us. Then came a long wait because Poison Control had them on hold. The doctor came in every 30 min to update us and never made us feel neglected. They let our pup hang as well, and let my husband in when he arrived to the room. When they finally got an answer they came in right away with treatment options, which included an outpatient option. Felt like they gave us all the info and the price isn't too bad for the immediacy and good service. Recommend this place for emergency needs.

Yelp
Twice now over a couple of years we've been flippantly turned away with a very sick animal. I completely understand being understaffed, but let's at least try empathy. Not "Maybe try the other clinic x miles away"

Yelp
My daughter took her dog in for an emergency visit due to a gnarly cough he suddenly developed. She called the front desk, as instructed, when she arrived, and she was told the symptoms suggested kennel cough, so she was required to stay in the car. She asked the woman on the phone how this would all work, and the woman was rude, impatient, and without a shred of compassion. She actually hung up on my daughter! When she was finally called into a room, she waited AN HOUR AND A HALF without even seeing a doctor. She was scared, concerned, and not at all confident in the care she anticipated receiving, but that care never came and she finally just took her dog and left! And Ms Compassionate at the front desk simply said "okay". No apology, no letting her know they were there if he got worse...just "whatever." My daughter kept her dog comfy and followed basic at home treatments, and she made an appointment online to take him in first thing the next morning to her vet. The staff had said they were "very busy" but she never saw another patient. And, even if they were, they could have afforded her the common courtesy of checking in on her and her dog to let her know they CARED, made sure he was comfortable and not suffering, and would be with her as soon as possible. The treatment she received--or lack thereof--was nothing short of dismissive and disgusting. If you ever require compassionate emergency treatment of your furry family member, find another emergency vet...ANY other!

Yelp
My dog started having seizures late at night. This was the only place I could go. They charged me almost $2000 and told me that would include a 24 hour visit. I received a call about 12 to 14 saying my dog was ready to go. Once there And they brought him into the room. He had had another seizure. Instead of keeping him for the remaining time, they told me it would be an additional thousand dollars for them to keep him after had already paid the previous amount. They returned my dog to me a condition that was worse than when I left him this was yesterday . He died today. I wouldn't recommend your pet depending on. They are only about money. Rip mamba

Yelp
Took our dog here due to a bad insect bite and allergic reaction. Sat here for four hours with no update. NOT A SINGLE ONE. When my husband asked the woman at the front to help us get an update on our dog's health and wellness after four hours, she didn't answer the question and told him there were lots of pets and that they'd "get to him when they did." Obviously an unacceptable answer. Most times this place is ok. This time - a garbage experience. Don't come here for emergencies on the weekend.

lindsey m.

Yelp
Avoid this place. My husband was told to wait 45 minutes for the doctor to arrive, so he could be first in line. When the doctor arrived an hour and a half later, they treated a bunch of other people first. After several hours and several hundred dollars, they "fitted" my dog with a cone that was much too large and she ate holes in her leg the following day. And they have been contacting me to pay the bill he already paid. Get it together!!

Yelp
My wife and I have been to village vets before and received good service. Twice actually once in the middle of the night during Covid and another on a Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately Thursday morning around 1 am changed that. My dog was having trouble breathing and I called to see how long the wait would be. The young lady said "I have to refer you." "To St. Francis, the address is 625 Dekalb Industrial Way." She hung up My dog died. That's the experience. That's the review.

Yelp
We brought our 6 yr old Boxer in for emergency treatment for wounds to his ears post a fight with his 3 yr old brother. Greeted by pleasant receptionists. Paid upfront $150.00 examination fee and rest would be charged post agreement on treatment plan before leaving. Dr. Franco was the treating Veterinarian who discussed procedure for examination and cost of treatment. Was able to have options for treatment plan to lower cost. Veterinary Tech Nicole was very professional and pleasant who handled Brando. Treatment plan executed and meds given to continue care at home. To date, Brando is healing and we are satisfied with the plan of treatment and care. I was impressed by the allowed input I was able to have in managing Brando's treatment plan. This is a practice that should continue Dr. Franco Thank you! The Oliver's and Brando

Yelp
The first time I used Village Vets was several years ago because I had an emergency on Thanksgiving night. It was a good experience and they kept me on their mailing list so I found myself calling them yesterday when my dog experienced extreme back spasms. Over the course of the night, I dialed them 3 times and each time spoke with a different person who was very courteous, patient and informative. One person in particular talked me through what I needed to do so I ultimately didn't even have to come in at all. I was able to stop the spasms and get my dog to his primary vet today. Some of the things the reps talked with me about: - reiterated the wait time that I would be faced with due to both dog and cat traumas that came in ahead of my call. Wait would be like 3 hours. - asked what kind of medication my dog was on which ultimately led to us finding a solution to get through the night - cost for the visit, which was actually very reasonable. - explained the difference between their locations ( I didn't realize this only handled emergencies) - gave me the number for poison control as at first I suspected my dog had ingested something. My dog is 17 so this isn't my first rodeo with vet emergencies and I believe Village Vets handled mine well.

Yelp
Please please read reviews for this place everywhere! Warning! Warning! Read Google reviews as well. This place doesn't care about animals, they only care about money. I wouldn't be surprised if they skin your puppies to make a fur coat.

Yelp
My scheduled my appointment for September 4th at 3:00 p.m. I showed up 10 minutes earlier and by 3:40 the only service I had received was three paws poorly snipped they left me in room another 15 minutes and did not give shots or give diagnosis on injured Paw only show concern after I had loaded dog into car and was leaving parking lot I did have good experiences here but at this point in time if this is how the business is ran I would not recommend

Yelp
Brought in a choking puppy. They decided it was low risk and have now left us waiting in an exam room for four hours. No updates or explanations. Never again. I understand triage for more serious cases, and it was (of course) a weekend. But radio silence for four hours? Insulting and scary business model.

Gina E.

Yelp
After a three hours wait and $700, they told me that the puppy I had with me needed a different specialist.

Yelp
I took my two Saint Bernards to Village Vets in Decatur for the past 10 years, since they were 8 weeks old. It has gone down hill so bad the past 3-4 years it should not be licensed! My 10 year old Saint Bernard went in on thanksgiving with a questionable blocked bowels l and he was limping on his front leg . We were in the exam room for over 6 hours before being seen in the ER. My dog had been put on an antinflammatory by VIllage Vets a few months before for his limping and leg pain. He had also lost 15 lbs that they did not seem concerned about. After finally being seen in the ER he ended up staying two nights as they tried to figure out his bowel blockage. Surgery was a possibly, but they were able to get his bowels moving without surgery. When we picked him up he was brought to the lobby limping and covered in feces head to toe. My daughter picked him up and she did not want to leave with him covered in feces and matted tail. They vet tech became defensive and angry when she asked to speak to the vet about the condition of our St. Bernard. She was told he could stay another night and they would clean him up. Our bill at that point was already 2500 dollars. The vet she spoke to actually agreed that he should have been cleaned up before being discharged but he could not do anything about it. I asked my daughter what they said about his limping and leg pain and she was told we needed to make another appt or bring him back in to the ER for another visit. Needless to say after all that I was not taking him back to Village Vet. The next day I took him to a new vet in East Atlanta and they diagnosed him with bone cancer (osteo sarcoma) in his front leg within 30 minutes of seeing him. He lived another 3 weeks. Yelp
Took my dog here because she was having involuntary jerks on her legs and come to find out it was from drinking toilet bowl cleaner. Came here at 930pm.. had to prepay for the visit. And was told to wait in the car. Wasn't seen until almost midnight. When I showed videos to the tech and the vet they were both very dismissive because her legs weren't having jerks at that time. They told me that she is fine now and that if I have further concerns I can call poison control. What was the point of going to the vet if they were going to tell me to call poison control? . I wanted to be like well before y'all made me prepay $100+ for the vet why the fuck didn't anyone tell me to call poison control first? I told 2 different people why we were there to be be evaluated by a vet. She even said poison control could tell you if she needs to come back for treatment or if she needs to be hospitalized Didn't even draw labs. Just shaved her paw and felt it. HORRIBLE vet experience that I hope nobody else has to experience

Yelp
ER care was easy and low stress given the circumstances. Last night, my small dog ingested a bunch of unsweetened chocolate while my back was turned. We took her to the ER. The petite young lady at the desk with reddish hair was very helpful and efficient. We were in and out in less than 2 hours. Thank you so much Village Vets! This ER care and the VV in Lilburn/Stone Mountain are tops!

Yelp
Not happy with the service I've received here at all. Inconsistent and unprofessional. I wanted to bring my new kitten here after my friend referred me. I called and scheduled the appointment, and they asked about the referral. After that I got no follow up emails or calls from them. Turns out they had put my cats information under my friends account and not mine, so she was getting all of the notifications and not me. The appointment I made was for my cat to get her rabies shot. I told them how old she was and what her birthday is. When I got there, they informed me that she was too young for a rabies shot so I would have to come back in a few weeks -- why wouldn't they tell me that over the phone before I drove there? When I did bring her back I also wanted her nails cut. They said that she was too agitated and that she scratched one of the technicians so they decided not to do it. I'm shocked that a vet would be turned off by a scratch from a kitten... I brought her back a few weeks later and they said the same thing, and that I should try sedating her before the appointment. SHOCKED that three licensed and trained vets would need a 5 lb kitten to be sedated in order to cut her nails. Moral of the story is ive driven there three times for no reason and no results. Would never recommend

Yelp
Be careful. Our family had a small Xolo (hairless dog), and we took her to the Village Vets for all of her appointments. Even though our dog had no hair, she was prescribed Simparica Trio (heartworm, flea, and tick medicine). After about 9 months on the medication, she started having seizures. The vet immediately took her off of it. Then she was prescribed Keppra for the seizures. At the Village Vets office in Avondale, she threw up after being given vaccines at her last appointment in June. The medication that she had to take 3x daily, Keppra, is hard on the kidneys, and she just passed away from renal failure TODAY. Our family of 5 is heartbroken. Our dog was only 3 years old. The lack of critical thinking involved is infuriating. Our small hairless dog did not need such intense chemicals. I have filed a complaint with the FDA over Simparica Trio. I'm an artist and a teacher. I like to only put uplifting things in the world. My only hope for this post is for people to think about the side effects of these chemicals. Our dog would still be a part of our family if we never subjected her to the chemicals that she was prescribed from Village Vets.

Yelp
Took my cat in the middle of the night for a foreign object in his stomach. We were treated with skill and compassion by Kato and Dr. Morgan. Surgery was successful and follow up was thorough. Communication was excellent. Kato went over all the treatment options and cost estimates with much patience and attention to detail. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommended.

Yelp
The late night crew did an outstanding job. I would not have my best friend without their expertise and professionalism. Other 24 HR clinics in my local area (Columbus) recommended that I just observe my dog who ate some plastic that he wasn't suppose to and tried to charge me for their Advice. Village Pets immediately examined my buddy and took into action. I will absolutely drive the two hours again in case of any extreme medical emergency. To the Staff and Doctors thank you so much! Continue the great work.

Yelp
Absolutely Amazing!! My Dog ran through the woods and came back with a long scare and bleeding. I was so upset and didn't know what to do! I called his vet but they didn't do emergency services. So I found The Village Vets online and took the trek from Conyers to have him seen! The service was superb!!! They first calmed me by assuring me he wasn't attacked by any other animal, but had scrapped against a pointy, sharp tree branch. That was a relief. They cleaned him up and put staples in to keep the wound closed. They gave 2 prescriptions and we were on our way. I think he felt as relieved as I did!! I would definitely recommend them for any of your needs, especially emergencies. The location in Decatur is 24 hours and dependable!

Natasha S.

Yelp
How does an emergency vet practice have only one doctor on duty on the weekend? Insanely poor planning and scheduling. I've been a client of this practice since 2003 and I'm so frustrated and disappointed. They only have one emergency hospital and it should be adequately staffed. Update: After paying $105 and waiting over two hours I was told it would be another 3-4 hours before my pet, who is actively bleeding, can be seen by a vet. Update 2: just spent 11 minutes on the phone, after being called at 9:30 PM, having a vet from the practice argue with me about my experiences in their office and tell me that their other vets are pregnant and that that should change my opinion on how they're doing things and how short staffed they are. His attitude did not help, and in fact solidified my decision to take my animals elsewhere. I answered the phone because I thought they were calling about my animal, but no, they were calling me about this review and never asked how he was doing. DO NOT EVER BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE. THEY HAVE LOST ME AS A CUSTOMER AFTER 2 DECADES.

Laura A.

Yelp
This is the worst vet I have ever been to. The front desk staff were super unsympathetic and incredibly ignorant about animals. My dog was panting and shaking from pain and they made us sit for hours because of a "shift change" thinking that was normal. Then they told us he likely was simply nervous and said we could go home with nothing done. We went to a real emergency vet and he had a perforation that was bringing air into his colon and was in such extreme pain he needed an IV. He passed away. Village Vet is useless and even I could see my little guy needed help when they didn't care. Do NOT waste your time with these people.

Yelp
I've come here twice and both times we waited for hours without being seen. I'm sure they provide great care, but it seems like they only have one vet working at a time so actually getting care for your pet is unlikely. I would never recommend this place because of their insane wait times and short staffing issues that don't seem to get resolved. They constantly turn people away and send to other emergency clinics, so save yourself the trip and go somewhere else to begin with.

Yelp
I cannot express my gratitude enough for this place. My best friend Astro stopped eating regularly and was experiencing appetite loss which really had my nervous. I was advised to take him to an emergency vet! The Village Vets were a bit of a drive (24 min) but my local vets weren't rated highly on google or Yelp. Now to the experience! It was sensational! Without boring you, they worked with me in regards to my cats anxiety with staying in a car, they spent many moments on the phone calmly explaining the situation and explaining in detail all possibilities and if they couldn't answer my question, they got a technician on the line. The doctor called me during the exam and was fantastic. Highly, highly recommend to all. As someone who's had a HORRIBLE experience at another prominent vet(check my reviews), I can't say how much I love this experience! PS: Astro came home after two hours and is now eating to his heart is content!

Yelp
Ive been sitting here in the the room that I was told to come in since 4:25 . It is now 7:08 and my dog has an EMERGENCY and hasnt been seen yet ! I keep asking for a vet and they keep telling me something about a shift change. If that was the case they couldve just told me come back at a later time before they took me money. Very unprofessional. They will have you waiting just dont come here.

Yelp
My dog ate poison and I called The Village vets nearby to let them know I was coming. We waited 10 minutes to check in then 1 hour for a tech to say they immediately induce vomiting. It had been 5 hours since she ate it I asked if it wa an emergency why did we wait an hour with an empty waiting room. They made up a story. I am done with this place

Yelp
If you can go to another vet, please do. You will wait extremely long waits. This may be understandable if it is an emergency, but not a follow up appointment. Actually they don't make appointments at all, but a promise that your follow up visit won't be long. I'm reality, you will wait at least 2 hours for a follow vaccination. When the tech comes out, he tells you to walk over to him and turn your dog around so he can grab him. There was no hello, validated my name or my dogs name and no personal touch. The most unprofessional and displeasing part about this experience, is the front desk staff. Extremely rude, asks the same questions 3 times because she did not like your answer and hangs up on you. I will never come back to such an unprofessional place where there is no compassion for your pet, your time or your experience.

Yelp
I had a good experience with the vet herself, she gets 5 stars, but the rest of the experience was a 1 star affair, bringing it to an average of 3 stars. We have two dogs, no real health problems. Moved to Atlanta, got them established with a vet for their regular check ups and vaccinations. At first I thought this whole sitting in the parking lot waiting for (not being hyperbolic here) over an hour with the engine running and the dogs panting was an outlier, but it is absolutely the standard here. I came to pick one up after a dental cleaning, had a call saying she was ready, waited over an hour. I tried to bring them in for a tech visit (you can't make appointments for these) for a weigh-in and nail trim, sat in the parking lot waiting for someone to answer the phone to even come out to get the dogs for over half an hour, and when there was still no answer, the dogs and I decided we don't like waiting in the hot car on hold, so we're going to try the vet services somewhere else.

Yelp
Ive been to village vets twice now for minor emergencies and have not been seen once by a vet. The first time we were told there would be a two hour wait, five hours later we left without hearing one word from staff. The second time we were told there would be an hour and a half wait, three hours later we left without hearing one word from staff. The abject lack of communication is honestly pretty hurtful. I understand that trauma cases get first priority, but communicating adjusted wait times to those already waiting goes along way, especially when you feel like your pets life is at stake. Eventually we found an emergency vet that a) made us feel like they actually care about our dog; b) didn't have outrageous wait times; and c) communicated expectations to us clearly and consistently. It really was a night and day experience. Will not be coming back to Village Vets.

Yelp
I have been going to them for 5 years. To get a regular monthly prescription they changed their policy. You NOW have to get it from a 3rd party (they dont have it.) AND they will not approve it over phone OR electronically. You have to get a physical copy of a prescription. You then have to snail mail that copy to 3rd party (Petmedsrx etc.) to get the meds. COMPLETELY ridiculous. What in the world are we back in 1980? They also still make you wait in your car for appts. (But walk right in the pick up your written prescription- that makes TONS of sense!) And if it is an emergency they will not see you for hours. They make you WAIT. Very very impersonal. I am sad avout this type of customer service. The actual doctors are nice although they don't seem to know or care very much about your pet. Very sterile feeling. I would bot recommend this vet.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible service. I paid 153$ then waited 1.5 hours for "emergency" service. There was one dog ahead of us -- not in distress. My dog was never seen by a vet. Incredibly unprofessional and unethical behavior. Sadly I expected more from people who are meant to care for animals. Very disappointed and frustrated.

Yelp
All I can say is Dr. Neil saved ,my dog ,Havoc's life. Havoc was brought in for being lethargic and not eating. He was vomiting and dehydrated . The staff took Havoc back right away and everything was explained which made it easy to make a sound decision . Havoc needed surgery for swallowing a sock. Dr. Neil did an excellent job and havoc healed quickly with no problems. They love what they do there! The surgery was reasonable priced . I love this place Jaylyn and Veronica Williams

Yelp
Some of the staff has major attitude I don't believe my dog got the best of care. I guess when they felt that I wasn't going to pay any more money which was not the case I would have paid whatever it took to save my animal they told me to come and get him and sent the bed tape out with my dog and he was half dead he died 6 hours later at home. The veterinarian needs to come out with his patient to give back to the animal's parents not the vet tech.

Yelp
This place is horrendous. my dog was hit by a car so I brought him to Village vets. They said they had scheduled him emergency surgery. When I showed up for surgery the following morning, they had no idea who me or my dog was an he died After me running around town, trying to find somewhere to save his life. Blue pearl said, for a fact they would have been able to save my dog if I brought him there. they told me it was not a life-threatening issues. It was that almost 60 hours has gone by since the accident and he was too Swoll if he would've went into emergency surgery, he would've lived. Sevroth. 05/11 2020.

Yelp
The customer service here is horrible! After being on hold for 30 minutes my call was merged with another client that had been holding to speak with someone about a refund, how crazy is that?!?! I called backa and explained what I needed and was told that I could come and be worked in, that there were 11 pets ahead of me. When I get here I am instructed complete the new patient forms and then they would check me in. At that point I am advised that I have a 5-6 hour wait time and that I have to remain in the parking lot that entire time. Village Vets you have to better than that, to tell someone that they have wait in your parking lot for 5-6 hours and that if they leave (to get food for heaven sake) they would have to get back in line. You just lost my business!!!

Yelp
Severely overpriced and no effort to explain what's going on with your pet ! paid over 500 for my poor baby to sadly pass away

Yelp
I'm sitting in the parking lot of VVs right now wrapping up a visit for my sick pup on Sunday July 4. There are so many cars and so many animals that get sick even (esp?) on weekends and holidays. VV saw me quickly considering the holiday, the amount of pets who need care, and considering my issue wasn't a HUGE emergency (it just couldn't wait til Tuesday). The doc we saw was a good communicator, hugely helpful and knowledgeable. And the cost was about half of what I was expecting (I've been to other ER vets with much higher exam fees). I highly recommend this group if you need emergent care for your pet. Cassie

Yelp
honestly love the doctors an veterinarian assistant/Technician but the front desk staff could use a little more hospitality training. very dry an act as if they are annoyed or bothered by the presence of the customer. in an environment like this I'd like to be greeted by a positive attitude/ energy instead it's continuously giving stale bread.......please fix it.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place since it's just down the street from me, but their employee's conduct was unconscionable. This past Monday, September 23rd, we brought in our sick cat after work. The man at the desk said they just started an emergency surgery, so the wait would be about 2 1/2 hours. He offered to let us wait there or head back home and intermittently call in to check on the wait time. Okay, I understand that, fine. We head home and called St. Frances, whose wait was also 2+ hours, so we basically watched the clock. About an hour later, we called Village Vets again to check the wait. They didn't answer and our cat started vomiting blood. We rushed back and the lady at the desk said verbatim: "Since you left, we scheduled 3 other animals, so we're basically closed for the night." I'm really not kidding; she actually said that. She had been RIGHT THERE when we spoke to the first employee, she recognized us, and she had the audacity to essentially say "Since you did the thing we advised you to do, your cat will not be helped." Absolutely cruel. We went to St. Francis where we had to wait for several hours and it turned out to be kidney failure, which is one of those "time is of the essence" situations. Village Vets of Decatur, you are horrible. Unbelievably indifferent to the value of life and I will never understand why you wasted precious hours of our cat's time. In case you're wondering (which, by the conduct of your employee, you probably aren't at all), our cat is still at St. Frances and we've already poured several thousand dollars into trying to save her life and we still don't know if she'll survive. She means that much to us and your employee made me sick when she showed how much our cat meant nothing to her.

Yelp
Called the Village Vets Emergency clinic in Decatur on Friday to ask about bringing in my cat who had got bitten in a fight. They said about 3 to 4 hour wait but I put cat in carrier & drove from Tucker with howling tabby. Got there & they inform me that they are not taking any more patients that day. They advertise "High Quality Care open 24/7/365." Think not.

Yelp
I have a special needs epileptic dog. I adopted him in March not knowing he was epileptic. Obviously this has been terrifying for us. His first few episodes, we took him to Blue Pearl emergency vets, but they recommended we find a regular vet to take him to. I tried this vet because I'd heard good things a few years ago. The vet recommended I euthanize him because I couldn't afford the ridiculously expensive care she recommended. She told me he'd never get better and this was going to keep happening. She talked over me and my partner. I'm so broken hearted about this experience. We were just about to euthanize him per the vet's recommendations when he finally stopped seizing. They wouldn't let us leave the clinic until we signed a promissory note to pay the $360 we owed for two rounds of anesthetic (which we told her wouldn't work) and an exam and a bunch of other things we didn't agree to. I didn't get approved for care credit. We had no options. It was 4am. So now I have to pay $360 to a clinic who told me to put down my dog because I was too poor to take care of him. Needless to say we take him to Bluepearl every time now which is cheaper, friendlier, and more efficient. We will never be back there. I'm still having SEVERE guilt and anxiety over almost killing my dog (who recovered and is FINE now!) because they said I was too poor to own a special needs dog. Obviously if I'd known he'd have epilepsy, I wouldn't have adopted him. But the options are giving him back (which would guarantee he'd be euthanized) or surrendering him to a (full, in need) special needs rescue. I love this dog. I got another job (I'm at four jobs now total) to pay for his care. I will work as hard as I have to to make sure he's cared for. Obviously, im totally supportive of other people who regime special needs dogs out of necessity. I'd never shame that, this is a really scary thing to deal with. However, I'm ashamed that I was made to feel irresponsible and dirty for being low income by a vet who was supposed to help. Never ever take an emergency need here and don't go here if you're at all low income.

Yelp
These folks are amazing! Overnight care actually cost less than when I've had to have the same day time treatment done at EAAC. Very attentive, called with regular updates. Highly recommend! Their highlands location is also wonderful!
