The Vine, Funchal, Madeira - Explore & Book

"The Vine is divine. Not only that, its cutting-edge chic is putting Madeira on the map for hip city breaks and luxury living. There may not be a vineyard in sight, but it’s all about the wine here, from the first floor restaurant Terra, groovily themed to feel as though you’re dining amid roots and beneath vines, to the vinous photographs above the beds and the lush palettes of purple, green, pink and brown. The Vine is a design hotel par excellence: the underground spa is darkly seductive; the rooftop swimming pool, sundeck and levada-inspired Jacuzzi could be from a Vogue photo shoot. Lights come on and curtains glide at the merest touch, bathrooms have waterfall-effect showers, modish baths stand at the foot of the bed. Madeiran-Portuguese designer Nini Andrade Silva has won countless awards for her interiors; at last she's brought her talents home. Forget the old holiday cliches of golf and G&T: look for the high life and find it here. Highs Lush sea views from the sundeck at the top, plus hidden jacuzzi, poolside bar with creative cocktails and infinity poolThe decor oozes glamour, luxury and style - it's won many design awardsThe Spa has some unique treatments (red wine massages and milk baths)Staff are warm and friendly, professional yet unobtrusiveAn excellent super-central location Lows Too cool for school? The lighting devices take some getting used to and the rooms may be a bit style-over-substanceYou enter via the La Vie shopping centreMany bedrooms are overlooked by neighbouring buildings and there's a certain amount of city-centre noiseNo garden - but the fabulous sundeck more than compensatesWhile the rooms can be good-value, extras such as food and treatments may not merit their price tag" - Laura Dixon

We stayed at the Vine Hotel for our honeymoon and for new years. The hotel is lovely and staff friendly, with cleaners asking each day if we would like our room cleaned which was lovely. They also left us prosecco and chocolates with a nice note to celebrate our honeymoon and we had a gorgeous couples massage by Katerina & Emma in the spa. On the first day at breakfast they also noted that I was vegan and gave me tofu & seitan which I greatly appreciated. One negative however, was that hotel residents who chose not to pay for the very pricey new years eve gala dinner were subjugated to their bedrooms and had no access to the bar. If I had known this is how we would be treated I would have booked somewhere to go for the evening outside of the hotel. The rooftop new years celebrations were the main reason I booked this hotel but to be told we couldn't access the bar on new years eve in the hotel we were staying at was very disappointing. The receptionist also treated us very poorly by being quite blunt. They backtracked and said we could have a drink at 10:30pm but this was pretty poor treatment in my view. We still had a lovely stay overall but just a shame about the lack of planning for residents on new years eve.

Top notch hotel in a great central location for all the sights in Funchal. Room was a good size with enough plug sockets (!) and decent lighting - even if that was a bit of a challenge to work out at first. Staff were superb; friendly, helpful and good humoured in the terrible weather we had (storm Emelia). Good gym facility and excellent spa with jacuzzi and relaxation area that were very welcome - unfortunately the very nice looking roof terrace was off limits due to the weather. Superb breakfast selection and cocktails too. My only small gripe is very unsupportive pillows but a very minor issue overall in a really great hotel.

A team tried hard to be creative with the hotel design, but it feels like design was prioritized over functionality. Design Suite Review: Overall a spacious room with a walk-in closet, nice bathtub, and roomy shower. Faults: Lights in the walk-in closet didn't work and turned off after 15 seconds. Room lights were glitchy and needed to be reset on the master panel. Motion sensors would automatically turn on a light that was too bright if you got up from bed at night - disrupting anyone else sleeping in the room. There was no room to plug in our travel adapters on the desk, with no other place to plug them in. There was no Juliet-style balcony as listed in the room description, just windows facing the interior buildings/courtyard. Air conditioning did not work properly as it never felt cooler than 21C despite having it set at 16C. The rooftop pool is a nice place to chill with decent food offerings. The term "jacuzzi" is used to describe the small pool on the rooftop and spa, but it is simply a normal pool - not heated nor with jets. Free parking is a plus. Location is central and located in a mall entrance. Overall, we were disappointed in the hotel due to the misleading amenities and poor design functionality for the price. We would choose to stay elsewhere next time.

Excellent Hotel. Very friendly staff. Very easy access to downtown. Took us 10 minutes to walk to downtown cable car site. If you need any supermarket items, the mall is right downstairs and there is a nice supermarket there also. There is filtered water on every floor in a machine. The breakfast is also excellent. Great coffee machine, selection of fruits and cheeses and breads, as well as numerous hot entrées. Attached is the welcome letter to with their services. Also, very big plus was we rented a car in the free parking in the downstairs garage was very convenient. You need to go to the private parking lot, which is next to the mall pkg lot entrance.

Staff very welcoming and helpful. Location extremely convenient within the top floor of a popular shopping mall in the city of Funchal. Rooms comfortable, breakfast with ample choice. Great views from rooftop pool. Will return.

Excellent location in downtown Funchal. The roof top pool is terrific, with a bar that serves nice drinks and snacks. The breakfast is very good also. I found the rooms to lack drawer space for unpacking but we managed.

This was our first time to Madeira and Funchal is such a wonderful place!!||The Vine Hotel … What a great place! … I have to say when we arrived and got dropped off at a shopping centre … my heart sank! But after exiting the lift, seeing the modern reception and the warm welcome we immediately felt like we hade made a great choice!||The pool area views are nothing short of stunning!!! The infinity pool, bar and Sun lounge area are well kept and were generally quite throughout our stay||All the team were really friendly and attentive.||The breakfast was buffet style with lots of choices of cooked and continental daily and everyday was lovely!||We chose to dine out each night as the hotel is so well located with lots and lots of choices and everywhere we ate the food was excellent and everyone we met was very friendly||The room was AMAZING with a small balcony, bath and shower and the biggest bed we have ever had||We did the CR7 museum, monte palace tropical gardens tour, cable car, toboggan ride (very fun) and a 4x4 tour with wine tour and everyday had a walk around the harbour and Funchal - very beautiful ||This is such a beautiful place and we will be back ||Great Hotel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I booked this hotel for Dec 2-6 even though I was arriving on the 3rd because I knew my early arrival wouldn’t necessarily guarantee me entry into the hotel. I arrived at 930AM and checked into the facility. There was some confusion at the front desk initially because I had booked for the day before, but after that was cleared up, we went into our rooms to take a quick power nap since we had been up since 3:30AM to catch our flight. After we took a quick power nap, we were unpacking in our rooms when suddenly someone working at the hotel came bursting into our room. She seemed confused that the room was occupied and asked us if we were leaving and checking out. I told her we had only just checked in and she immediately left. We found this strange since we had just checked in, but more so that she didn’t knock. Fifteen minutes later, a cleaning lady came bursting into our room, and when I told her to not enter since this room is occupied, she yelped and ran away. After these two incidents, I immediately went to the front desk and spoke to the receptionist to ensure that it’s marked in their systems that we have checked in and we are now occupying the room because we just had two different people come into our rooms WITHOUT knocking. She said they usually knock. No apologies or no acknowledgment at the severity of the issue. This is a huge violation of privacy. My partner and I could’ve been undressing, in the shower, etc. I find the service of the hotel very lacking. They advertise themselves as five star, but they’re not. I recommend that people find a different facility in the area. In addition to the above issue, the self parking, while nice to have, is a mess. You have to buzz in and out each time you want to leave the facilities and sometimes you’re left waiting because people are not able to acknowledge you in a timely manner. The rooms are also very dark, even when you attempt to try to turn on every single light that’s available.

Yelp
Restaurant: Great view, great service, very nice food but comes with a price. We spent around 160 in total (2p). Can recommend to ask for wine recommendations to go with your food, they are excellent. We enjoyed the chicken wing salade with ansjovis, carpaccio, the ravioli, the cannelloni and finished off with the chocolate charlotte. Finally, they also provided one of the best available kids chairs to make it easy to make the diner worthwhile with a 1 year old.

Yelp
Disgraceful. I've never been treated in such an unethical fashion at any other hotel in my life. Save yourself bad treatment, horrible spa services, and game of thrones diplomacy. Stay anywhere else.
