The Next Must-Visit Wine Country

"Vintage House Hotel is a Relais & Châteaux property in the Douro Valley, which, after some bleak years, has improved its services. It is part of the growing trend of high-end accommodations in the Douro region, which is embracing wine tourism." - Ray Isle

Loved this gorgeous hotel. The views, the grounds, the river! Wish we could have stayed longer and will hope to go back one day. All rooms have windows facing the river. The rooms are large and have everything you need including robes and slippers. Loved the library bar.

Without doubt, if you are planning to visit Pinhao and the river, staying here is a must! We loved this hotel, from the very warm welcome, to the amazingly large room with a balcony overlooking the river, the beautiful colourfully tiled bathroom, the first class but expensive restaurant and the breakfast service, our experience was first class.||The whole place has a relaxing vibe about it with lovely grounds and swimming pool, and terraces to enjoy the weather if it's good.||This hotel was our favourite of the whole trip - and forget about hiring a car if you are travelling from Porto like we did, just catch the characterful old train - the station has private access to the hotel.||If I have to find one fault, is is the same issue we have with many hotels - the evening lighting isn't characterful enough. Bright overhead lights; candles would help.||If we return to this part of Portugal again, we would stay here without a doubt.

5 star location on the Douro river. The hotel is stylish with all amenities. My room was well appointed and quiet. My bathroom had lovely blue and white tiles. There was a kettle with limited tea options and no milk and a coffeemaker. There were ample PowerPoints and a reasonable shower. Dinner at the bar had a good range of cocktails and simple meals. Breakfast was good but the staff need to up their game

Great hotel, perfect location. The views from the rooms are outstanding. But be advised, if you come in the fall/winter months that they switch their system from A/C to heat and you cannot use the A/C. They did give us a fan, and we were able to leave the balcony door open at night to help mitigate this but it did get rather warm in the rooms in late October.

The views are what makes this hotel 5-star for sure. We had a typical room with a beautiful river view and a US king sized bed. The hotel is definitely a bit older and the room is showing its age - there are small chips across the wood and the pillows and chairs are a bit worn, but the rainshower is a wonderful feature and the bathroom is a nice big size. ||We heard the breakfast was not good so we didn't want to pay the absurd amount of 23 euro per person per day and instead got pasteries at a local coffee shop for under 5 euro. I wish the pool was of swimming temperature because it was beautiful, but I'm sure it's lovely in the summer. ||We thought the staff was OK - no major complaints but we didn't interact with them often. I do really recommend staying in the Douro for a few nights as opposed to taking a day trip from Porto - we really enjoyed the slower pace and relaxing feel of the small town of Pinhao. ||Also, free parking is a WIN!

Clearly not 5 star|Let's start with check in ... no bell staff , fine, We can carry our luggage |But the room while nice size is rather shabbily appointed, the love seat and chair are faded, worn and stained. The bathroom has no amenities, 1 bar of soap and no towel racks; so when you use 1 there is no place to put it but on the shower door or floor.|There is no mirror in the bathroom so no place to do makeup etc.|Our room wasn't cleared until after 1:30 pm|And then no new clean dry towels were left. I had to call the front desk and request towels. |Breakfast was inedible with runny eggs, undercooked bacon and fruit that looked like it's seen better days, granted we went at 9:45 and they quit serving at 10:30 so maybe it's better earlier.|For the most part the staff had a very who cares attitude |The view is terrific, but the hotel had a long way to go to be 5 stars!

I had my wedding here. The service was impeccable. They tended to all of our needs, including a guest that had severe food allergies. The food was amazing. The views are amazing. I loved my room as well as the room of my guests. I highly recommend this hotel for stay, weddings and food. I LOVE it. I can't wait to go back.

Great location. Had dinner in the restaurant. We were brought menus. Had to ask for wine list! In the Duruo valley-really??? Charged $20.00 for bread for 4. Ridiculous tradition for Portugal. We paid $1.00 euro per person in Lisbon. Not $20.00. Had to clean the magnifier mirror in bathroom on my own. The positives, we loved the view of our room!!
