I walked in on a stroll along Valencia - in from Houston for my mother’s funeral . Raised between Houston and San Francisco for my entire 26 year life span.
I know many of the store owners in mission as my family has worked in higher management for the city of San Francisco for over 30 years and maintain many of the permits needed to operate said store owners establishments.
I walked into a swanky looking store to them playing Nina Simone with inclusive imagery hanging up expecting this place to be a safe space for a young professional minority like myself, I greeted Bo? In spite of her blatantly ignoring me upon entrance, I skimmed around and asked for a business card. She stated they didn’t have one and she’s sorry as if she assumed I wouldn’t continue shopping outside of them not having a business card.
It was passive racism put off as aloofness. I see what the reviewer below is saying by rude storekeeper. I called to try and make a complaint; but she answered disregarding my grievance to being as surface as being upset because she didn’t have a business card. All while using culturally appropriated products, imagery, and music. She didn’t know who I was which is fine, respect me as a human being supporting your business , period.
Black Millennials, young progressional black girls, that have money to spend - spend it elsewhere. You are not respected or appreciated here. I’ll post this to #blacktwitter to spread the word, it’s repulsive.
